The Dallas Mavericks should blow it up and trade Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis. Mavs fans can finally start to heal from the Luca trade now that the architect behind it, Nico Harrison, is gone. But whoever takes over has an opportunity to completely reset and start rebuilding around Cooper Flag. While both Davis and Irving are in their 30s, they can still help you compile assets. Davis especially can probably get you a couple picks and maybe even a prospect. If I’m the Detroit Pistons or the Chicago Bulls, I’m calling the Mavs right now. And while Irving is out recovering from knee surgery, he is expected to return at some point this season. The Rockets, for example, would make a lot of sense as a Kyrie destination. If the Mavs are smart, they can accumulate picks to take on contracts, including moving off of Klay Thompson, who’s been struggling to start the year. And the Mavs are 3 and8 to start this season. They can now freely tank ahead of an absolutely stacked 2026 draft class. If Dallas wants to build a team around Cooper Flag’s image, they have the perfect chance to kickstart a worthwhile rebuild now and make sure not to hire anyone with ideas of trading Cooper Flag.

Dallas doesn't control their picks from 2027-2030. You can let Kai rest and rehab this year and tank and rebuild for next year centered around Coop and Kai, but you have to be competitive next year and not hand a lottery pick to Charlotte.
