J.J. Spaun spent the first part of Father’s Day doing the most dad thing ever, making a trip to CVS for his daughter, who was up all night with a stomach ache.

A few hours later, the 34-year-old recorded bogies on five of the first six holes on the final day of the U.S. Open.

But this proud girl dad was not ready to call it quits.

Spaun took advantage of a 90-minute weather delay, changed his clothes and reset, coming back from four strokes down.

He needed to par 18 to win, but sunk a 65-foot putt for birdie to win his first major.

Spaun hails from Southern California and learned the game playing public par three courses, while also getting rather good at skateboarding.

After walking on at San Diego State, he worked his way up through the minors before earning his PGA tour card in 2016.

J.J. had one other win, in 2022, before the U.S. Open, but finished second to Rory McElroy at the Players Championship.

Spaun, who still practices on public courses to stay grounded, edged out Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre, who was attempting to become the first left-handed golfer to win the U.S. Open.
