“Purebred Farm” is the name of the new 14-hole golf course set to be built on the Kohler properties, located about 55 miles north of Milwaukee in Kohler, Wisconsin. Plans call for King-Collins and Trev Dormer to break ground in the fall of 2025, with an anticipated opening in the fall of 2027. The design team of Tad King, Rob Collins, and Trev Dormer (who joined the firm in 2024), have earned a reputation for bold, creative architecture that artfully blends playability with visual flair.
Their portfolio includes the acclaimed Sweetens Cove in Tennessee and Landmand in Nebraska. These two courses have earned national recognition in addition to being ranked among the best public-access layouts in their respective states. Beyond these highly touted projects, the team’s influence continues to expand internationally with a master plan at Royal Dornoch in Scotland, one of the world’s most revered golf clubs. The plan features the creation of a new 18-hole course as well as a renovation of the Struie Course. And the firm’s global reach doesn’t stop there. King-Collins-Dormer is also behind a highly anticipated new course at 7 Mile Beach in Tasmania, further solidifying their reputation as one of golf’s most innovative design teams.
Kohler currently boasts two championship golf destinations, Whistling Straits and Blackwolf Run — offering a total of four 18-hole courses. The property includes two layouts at Whistling Straits and two at Blackwolf Run, along with the 10-hole par-3 course, The Baths of Blackwolf Run, and a 10-hole putting course. All were designed by legendary architect Pete Dye, whose distinct styles range from rugged, links-inspired seaside golf to dramatic prairie and ravine landscapes, giving Kohler one of the most diverse and acclaimed golf offerings in the world.
“Kohler is committed to growing the game of golf and expanding access to players of all skill levels,” said Dirk Willis, vice president of golf, landscape, and retail for Kohler Hospitality, in a media release announcing the plans. “Each of the last five years has been record-setting in terms of rounds played at our Kohler, Wisconsin resort, and we expect this strong growth to continue. This additional golf course will provide another level of enjoyment for guests and further cement our position as a leading global golf destination.”
Purebred Farm will be roughly 4,900 yards from the tips and walking only. The routing will weave through prairie, farmland, and river valleys, carefully avoiding existing wetlands to preserve the site’s natural character. Golfers can expect a design that celebrates ground-game creativity, with fast, firm turf inviting imaginative play and rewarding thoughtful decisions, a hallmark of King-Collins-Dormer’s design philosophy.
Golf isn’t the only thing expanding at Kohler as it will be debuting The Serve, which broke ground earlier this month. The impressive facility will feature six indoor pickleball courts, two heated outdoor platform tennis courts, and an elevated social lounge. The new venue will host tournaments, lessons, and recreational play for guests of all ages and skill levels. Once open, The Serve will create a vibrant, year-round hub where the community and visitors can gather, compete, and enjoy racquet sports.
The game of golf continues to grow worldwide, and many premier destinations are following suit by expanding within their own properties. As the sport’s popularity surges, expect more top-tier resorts with available land to seize the opportunity, adding new courses and experiences to meet the ever-rising demand from golfers eager to explore fresh designs.
