Luke Donald Post-Event Interview | 2025 Ryder Cup
Well, Luke, many congratulations. Them celebrations yesterday will go down in history. How do you feel this morning? I actually feel surprisingly okay. I I really haven’t drunk much the last two months, just getting prep prepped and ready for this. So, um yeah. Um had had a few glasses last night, so actually feel decent considering. When you look back at yesterday and how close it actually got, what’s your initial thoughts on that? I mean, just the most stressful day of of my life on a golf course. It was going so well early on and then uh just flipped and um you know, all credit to the US for for staying strong and fighting to the end and um yeah, I mean it was just great to get over the line obviously, but uh it was a a nerve-wracking day for me to to say the least. How difficult was it to get the team’s mindset right going into those matches because you had a big lead and you know they could have been forgiven to think their point might might not mean anything at the end of the day. Yeah, there’s certainly never any complacency. We we talk about that but uh our goal was to try and win the session and to create more history. We’d obviously won the first four sessions that never I don’t think ever been done in in a way RDER Cup. So um you know that’s that was kind of what was inspiring to us to take care of our own game and take care of our our business. But, you know, it uh obviously looked like it was going to happen at one point and then uh you know, again, the US played so well, especially those last few holes. Your team had to put up with a lot over the last three days. How proud are you of their resilience and the perseverance that they showed? Yeah, really proud. Um yeah, we we understood it was going to be a tough tough hostile environment and um we talked about that a lot. I I talked about it and all the messaging I gave to the players over the last 16 months. I constantly tried to hammer it home about how we can be ready for that um and how to rise above it and you know I think for for the most part the guys were uh unreal in in uh how they handled that situations. Part of your messaging was all about legacy as well. The people that came before the team, you’re now part of that legacy too. How proud are you of your own achievements? Yeah, of course. Um, you know, some people thought I was crazy doing it a second time, especially in New York away. You know, why why ruin that legacy of uh, you know, the the great win we had in Rome, but, you know, I think that’s always um, always motivated me, you know, to put yourself in in difficult situations and see how you can do and how you can handle them. And, uh, you know, I was just proud of myself for the preparation and giving giving these guys the best opportunity for success. When you look at the last three years, you took the captaincy on in pretty turbulent circumstances for for Ryder Cup Europe. To come out of that with two wins, one of them away from home, it’s what dreams are made of. Yeah, I think the Rder Cup is great in that that it unifies uh everyone. you know, it’s we we talk about it a lot and uh it’s so important for the game and and what it represents and it’s certainly you know, we talk about that in our team as well that the history that it has and um you know that it’s very inspiring for for future generations as well. And I think the guys don’t take that uh uh lightly at all. They they understand the magnitude of it. And there’s a team obviously behind you, plenty of unsung heroes. How proud are you of of what they’ve achieved alongside you and the support they’ve given you over this journey? we are always as stronger as a collective and um we couldn’t do it without all those guys and and people that really help that dedicate themselves over a two-year period each and every RDER Cup. So um incredible team with a lot of passion um for what this uh journey is like and uh it’s it’s a pleasure for me to to join them in that journey. And just finally, obviously got to enjoy this moment, but the question of a dare manner will pop up at some point. When you sort of reflect over what you’ve done, is it out of the question to potentially go for for three in a row? Yeah, it’s something I haven’t thought about. Um, and I want to enjoy this one obviously first, but um, yeah, I mean, very humbled to be asked to do it twice. I think it maybe gave us a little bit of an advantage, but you know, sometimes it’s good to pass on the reigns to someone else as well. And um, again, I’ll have to I have to think about that, but not not right now. To watch another RDER Cup video, click here and subscribe here.

Legend. TWO MORE YEARS!!!
Finish at the top LD … you've earned your stripes 👍👍👍
I wish he was ours…
Yeah home and away is enough don't ruin it.
Go wildcats!
All his words are so elegantly replied
Pure Class
Hopefully LD stays on for 2027 – he’s the perfect fit as a captain. Having said that, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he called it a day – he’s got nothing else to prove in Ryder Cup terms – he’s completed it.
He has been the perfect captain and surrounded himself with fantastic vice captains and like of Paul Mcginley as advisor. I think Mollinari was massive with tactics stats etc along with LD think he will be next captain. If Rose isn’t playing in Ireland I think he would be excellent choice as well.
2 more years?? Need 6. Absolute legend status.
You have nothing else to prove Luke, time to pass on the captain's mantle and enjoy the rest of your life, all the very best and thank you 👏👏👍👍
jimenez should be the captain next.
I hope that Luke gives some one else a chance to be Captain, it does not always need to be about breaking records
Please keep in mind if you take it on what Justin Thomas said” No player was physically injured and no player was threatened with violence” so in 2027 we can give the SEPTICS all sorts of shit about their weight, wives appearance ,children are a free go and anything else we can come up with to throw them off their game .😂😂😂😂😂😎😎😎😎😎😎👍👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎👍👍😂😂
