Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This YouTube channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!

I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.

I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!

On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.

All right, guys. Welcome back to the hit channel. And this is my first ever hit of the brand new Shrixen ZXiU utility iron. Oh, that felt really good. Now, Shrixen are known for making great feeling irons, and they make great irons. I’ve reviewed some recently, and they’re so good. They also apparently make fantastic utility irons. In fact, when Scottish Sheffler does put a utility iron in the bag, it is the Z U85. So, even he raves about it. This is effectively the newer version. What I like about the utility iron, again, going back to this Shrixen idea, they’ve made everything about the feel. Obviously, performance is really key, but they want like their irons, they want it to feel fantastic. So, what they’ve done with the utility iron as well. This is the three iron in 20° of loft. And I’ve got to say, I mean, it looks sleek. It’s very shiny. Very, very shiny. Certainly this back edge here, it’s like a mirror. I mean, I can literally see myself in the back of the golf club that I’ve got a little bit of concerns with. We’re in a studio here with a bit of lighting. But playing that in sunny conditions, you’re either going to blind yourself or you’re going to blind your playing partners because that honestly that is so so shiny and clear. Behind the golf balls are quite a chunky top line, but it’s that shiny reflective bit that’s really poking out the back. Don’t know if I love that look. It looks a bit chunky and clunky, I would say. Let’s hit another shot, though, cuz that first one felt really good. I mean, that flight is really nice. Little draw down the left side of the fairway. Now, I know I love utility irons. I love long irons. I feel they have so much variety. You can hit them high, low, hit them off the tea, hit them into into long par fives. The one criticism certainly when they get more hollowheaded though, they often lose that feel like they’re not as soft. This doesn’t feel like that. This feels like an extension of a beautifully forged cavity back iron set. They’ve just made it a bit chunkier cuz that feels so so good. I mean, it is forged. It’s eye forged, but it feels fantastic. I I also I really like the face on the Shrix and Irons. I like how they’re almost a little bit more They’ve got the grooves, but they’ve almost got like this ribbing effect across the face as well, which is to increase spin, move moisture out the way, and even increase the spin. And on the bottom side of the golf club, again, something they’ve inspired from their already very successful irions, they have this very kind of tapered to VT sole, which is better for turf interaction. And again, you want that little bit of turf interaction with a long iron. I just don’t know if I love the look of this version. It’s a bit shiny. And like I say, behind the golf ball, I could imagine it being quite off-putting. However, those three T- shots I’ve just hit there are absolutely money. Carrying around 220 yards, really nice flight penetrating. That one carried 217 for 232 total distance, 3,400 spin, which is really solid for a three iron. Ball speed of 138 mph. Club head speed 95 mph. like that. Those numbers are fant for me. Numbers and feel are superb. Just don’t know if the look might let it down for me personally. Okay, that’s three shots. Let me just hit a bunch more and then we can actually look at some data just off a normal shot hit with this Shrixen iron. Oh, little pulley one. We don’t want to miss the fairway off a tea with an iron. Okay, there’s a couple of things here. I would consider myself a pretty good long iron player. And I’ve used utility irons for a long time. For me personally, this feels as good as any utility iron I’ve ever used. I mean, the feeling is near perfection. The good shots are near perfection. There’s two things I’m seeing with this club. Again, as I mentioned, I don’t love the looks. It’s too shiny. The back end sticks out too much. Now, if that sacrifice on looks gave me something elsewhere, I could maybe look past it. The bit that I want it to give me kind of um to increase is the is the forgiveness level of it. I don’t think it’s that forgiving. I’m hitting some bad shots here. Some rights, some lefts. And on low strikes, I’m losing a lot of distance. So, that extra extension there in the back isn’t exactly giving me like loads more forgiveness. In fact, I think it’s quite a hard club to hit this. So, feels good. Doesn’t look great. Good shots are fantastic. Bad shots are really bad. So, let’s do a test. I’m going to hit four shots into this green. Four different shot shapes. Fade, draw, high, low. Let’s see how many I can hit onto this very, very challenging green on the simulator. I’ve got to hit high fade first. [Music] Go on, fade for me. It’s trying its best. Jump. Oh, it’s managed to keep its feet dry just and it’s a a dead straight left shot. Didn’t quite fade for me. Let’s go draw. I mean, this is my bread and butter. I should be able to do this one with my eyes shut. Get up. Get up. Get up. Oh, I might have just left myself a little bit too much to do at 230 yards as a pin. H. Next one. Let’s go super super high. Pinned it a little bit. It’s going to be wet. A no. Oh no. Lost the ball. Okay. And I’m going to try and hit a stinger. Let’s go super low. [Music] You come here for honest, independent, trustworthy advice. I hope that’s why you come here. This club, in my opinion, is the best feeling utility iron ever, but that’s the only thing it’s got going for it. I don’t love the looks and I’m not blown away by the performance. I feel like there’s two there’s it feels odd off the like it feels when you hit the toe feels great, but it like the miss is massive. When you hit off the bottom feels good, but the the it goes nowhere. Like I feel like the sweet spot is tiny. That’s where you get the best performance from. Everywhere else feels good, but you don’t get the performance. Again, you’re not offsetting looks for for better golf shots. It’s a miss for me. It’s a miss. Guys, thanks for watching. Stay tuned. Lots more to come. Trixion have done a lot of good things. This just isn’t quite it. We’ll see you next time.

  1. Can you run another giveaway, please? I'm sure you're running out of space, and you can't use them all! 😁😁

  2. Rick i get 100% what you are saying, i feel exactly the same about the 3iron(20’). I just cant seem to hit it well consistently. HOWEVER the 2iron(18’) is a game changer. It is 1000% better than the 3iron

  3. The shiny back of the club, when you have it on the ground, is almost invisible because of how much it is reflecting the grass, like at 1:35 in the video for example. Maybe that was the intention with making it so shiny? But yeah, if the sun is in the wrong angle, the reflection can get pretty bad.

  4. Long irons are so obsolete. I guess 99% of all golfers will on average hit better shots and score lower replacing this 20° 3i with a 21° 7w. The 7w is just superior. Period.

  5. You have just rediscovered the reasons for bulge and roll on the hybrids and woods. With these long distance shots better forgiveness makes a big difference.

    Great review.

  6. I use a Titleist u500 3-iron from 2019 I think. When I center it…amazing distance & feel. Love it!
When I fail to have that downward strike and thin it…I can hear it more than feel it…and distance falls off to like 200-ish yards.

  7. Meanwhile I have mirror finish Mizuno Pro irons that I buff to an EVEN MORE shiny finish…..and even in crazy Australian sun, its honestly not a problem. Im not standing behind the ball, Im HITTING IT. The face isnt an issue either unless you're light sensitive or something honestly.

  8. Nonsense review about the looks. It's a stunning looking club. And as a utility iron, it needs to be slightly chunky otherwise its not a utility iron that has power. I have the 2 – iron version, and it's as forgiving as a club i have ever played.

  9. I like it when you hit into a fairway or a green in these reviews. Makes it a lot better imo, loving the content 💪

  10. I Play a 2024 P-DHY 18 degree. I cannot hit a hybrid so the DHY is much more appealing to me, as a high handicap player.

  11. Im curious what you think about the macgregor macspd ir9n set ive been eyeing them over the takomos because of the name and the shorter wait time for the order

  12. I have this club and when played out on the course the shiny back reflects the grass and almost disappears, like an optical illusion. Is an amazing club but difficult to hit if you’re not on your game.

  13. I believe the zx4/zxi4 offer just as much forgiveness and does not look as much off putting and feels better

  14. Hey one thing you might try with that club which works out for my 2 iron, give the Kyle Berkshire swing a go. I find that when I get a little steep with it and really push back with my lead leg that thing hits like a nuclear bomb! That said, my longest shot on camera with the ZU85 is 363 yards and that was quite a smooth full swing, so there's that, lol.

  15. The shinier the better for me,I just feel irons/clubs etc that are shiny look more premium, yeah performance is the major factor though,I just think a driving iron ain't a easy option anyway unless you get loads of great practice to manipulate one 😊😀
