The G440 LST is geared towards faster swingers who want to keep their spin down to maximize distance off the tee. A hotter face, lighter configuration, and longer 46-in shaft helps foster more club head speed than the previous generation while preserving forgiveness. In this video, we’ll conduct a comprehensive and concise review of the G440 LST driver. We’ll explore how it performs in key performance categories, how it compares to other driver models, which type of golfer it’s best suited for, and if it’s actually worth putting in the bag. Full disclosure, unless otherwise indicated, stock shafts and stock grips are used when we evaluate clubs. In most cases, the golf clubs reviewed by Golfstead are acquired temporarily for testing purposes and are not purchased. The review that follows is based on the personal experience and research of the author. Because everyone’s swinging and body are different, results with a particular club may differ from person to person. For a more detailed review of this club, we recommend checking out our blog post linked in the description. First up is the Consensus. The G440 LST driver won a gold medal on the Golf Digest 2025 hot list. It enjoys a five out of five customer rating on the Ping website and has been rated highly by critics. In terms of positives, people note its exceptional forgiveness for a low spin driver, how easy it is to swing, the wonderful feel, and the impressive forgiveness low on the face. On the other hand, when it comes to negatives, the performance gains over the G430 LST are very small. Now, let’s summarize some of the key features of the G440 LST driver. One, free hosel. Weight is removed from a section of the hosel and reallocated to lower the center of gravity to record levels. The result is more distance and forgiveness. Two, carbonfly wrap crown. This saves discretionary weight which is reallocated to lower the center of gravity leading to forgiveness and a more muted pleasant impact sound. Three, low face. The height of the G440 LST’s face is lower than previous models which enables it to be thinner and hotter for higher ball speeds across the face. Four, tungsten back weight. A 29 g back weight can be moved into neutral, draw, or fade positions for ball flight adjustability. Five, trajectory tuning 2.0 hosel. This lightweight, aerodynamic, adjustable hosel offers eight loft and lie combinations to fine-tune your trajectory. Compared to the G440 Max, the G440 LST has a more compact, traditional head shape at 450cc, as well as internal weighting that promotes lower spin with a more penetrating trajectory. The G440 LST driver is available in 9° and 10.5° standard lofts. There are many stock shaft options offered at no upcharge, including the Pingour 2.0, No. Chrome 65, Mitsubishi Tensai 1K, Black 65, and Project X Denali Red. The stock grips are the Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 and Tour Velvet Cord, both of which are compatible with Arco sensors. The specs of the driver are shown in the image on your screen and can alternatively be viewed in the written review linked in the description. Next, let’s look at the actual performance of the G440 LST driver. During our test, we didn’t see a significant increase in ball speeds compared to the G430 LST. At best, the gains were about 1 mph, but at high swing speeds, this seemingly very small advantage can translate into a decent distance gain of maybe 5 to 10 yards. In addition, the longer 46-in shaft will help some players squeeze out more club head speed. The overall forgiveness picture is very much similar to the G430 LST with one exception, low on the face. During our field test, we found low face impacts to perform better overall with around 25% better ball speed retention and 20% tighter dispersions. This will make a big difference for many tour players. The launch profile is again similar to the G430 LST, but we did experience a higher spin of around 200 RPMs on average during our test. Given that the G series LST drivers already tend to lean towards the forgiving side of low spin, we would have preferred to see less spin. Next up are the looks. The G440 LST driver looks nearly identical to the G440 Max in terms of design and aesthetic. In fact, if it weren’t for the LST label and the fact that the LST is a bit more compact and pear-shaped at 450cc as opposed to 460 C, you’d have a very hard time telling the two models apart. We would have liked to see more visual differentiation with the G440 LST, but it’s not that surprising given that the internal tech is the same. What about sound and feel? The impact sound, which doesn’t change that much across the face, is lower toned and muted with some sharpness and liveless. Feel is stable, powerful, and responsive. The feel experience when you make center contact at high speeds is phenomenal. While there’s enough feedback in the strike to discern where you make contact on the face, it’s not substantially better in this regard compared to the Max model. To sum up this review, the Ping G440 LST is an excellent driver, but as a low spin driver, it’s not our favorite as we find the spin to be a little too high. Of course, low handicappers, scratch golfers, and pros will tend to gravitate towards the G440 LST due to the reduced spin, but its added forgiveness can make it viable for some higher handicappers as well. Evaluating the G440 LST based on distance, forgiveness, playability, looks, sound, and feel, we give it a score of 8.9 out of 10. Check out the blog post linked in the description for more details.
