This is the brand new LA Golf Driver in collaboration with one of the longest, straightest hitters of the golf ball known to man, Bryce Nishambo. And today I’m going to review it. [Music] We’ll have a bit of that now. LA Golf really known originally by making quality shafts. Then they started to kind of dive into other areas. They actually made a golf ball that I was incredibly impressed with. They made putters more recently which again look incredible. And now they brought out a driver. They go full hog. Looking forward to seeing the LA Golf Iron. In fact, that’s what Bryson’s using at the moment. Under the LA Golf head cover, there is this what looks to the naked eye like quite a simple design driver. Quite simplistic. The only thing you see across the bottom is I wouldn’t like to guess but maybe 50 LA Golf logos on the bottom. Completely Matt Crown LA Golf on top. It’s all about the face. This driver is all about the face. So, before I come on to the spiel, because there’s a lot to cover with this driver, a lot of detail, as you’d imagine. Bryce Nishambo’s been um collaborating with LA Golf on this driver. I got fitted when I was over in Miami a few months ago and also spoke to Bryson himself about this driver. I want to share that knowledge with you today. Right, without further ado, let’s give one a hit. Let’s see how it flies. We’ll have a bit of that. It’s not the longest I’ve ever hit, but it’s unbelievably straight. Right. So, this driver is all about the face. Because what Bryson and LA Golf have been working on with this driver is to increase the bulge and roll of this driver, all depending on your swing speed. So there’s five different faces, five different bulging rolls. Going down as little as below 90 miles per hour, there’s a different bulge and roll all the way up to club head speeds of 135 mph plus, which is rare. Not many people are getting to that, but that has a different configuration of bulge and roll. Most drivers have this kind of bulging and rolling of the club face. It’s to help off-centered hits. So if you hit the toe, the ball is going to curve left. So they almost lean it out more to the right. So the ball starts right and then curves back towards target. If you remember a few years ago twist face when Tailor Made brought out twist face, it was all about that. They were looking at having that toe even more open and flared. So if you do catch the area, it starts even more right, but still curves back to the middle. But the problem with that, and this is where Bryson’s kind of come into this, is different swing speeds, that bulge and roll reacts differently every single time. So, on the back of this driver head, there’s still loft. This is 9.5° of loft on this head, but there’s another two numbers here. Mine says 10-10, and that is in line with my swing speed of about 110 mph. And actually, when I was hitting this, I was swinging about 113 mph. So, the numbers refer to the radius of the circle in inches. I feel like I need a prop to explain this. One second. One second. So, let me explain this with this cable tie. Slower swing speeds need a flatter curvature. Faster swing speeds want more of a curved face. So, let’s say this zip tie is at its maximum radius. So, from the center to the edges, that’s its maximum radius it can go. This curvature can only be a certain amount of curvature. Like, can’t it can’t be any more curved. The faster you swing the golf club, the smaller the radius of that circle. Hence, the more curvature on the actual face, which fast swing speeds need more of. Hopefully that makes sense. So hopefully that kind of makes sense. So faster swing speeds like Bryson wants a number that’s smaller, a radius that’s smaller. Hence then the curvature of that face is more extreme. a slower swing speed wants a bigger radius from that circle, hence a bigger number because they want a flatter face. Makes sense. It really does. And it’s again not only for bulge but roll. And the idea is again, as I mentioned, you hit the toe, it starts right, curves back center, but also lower strikes. Lower strikes often spin more. So you want to launch it lower before it starts to spin. That helps. Higher strikes typically spin less. So if you if you lean that face back a little bit more, it launches higher, spins less, goes further. It does. It totally makes sense. Whether it works, that’s a different point. I mean, that first shot was really good. Let’s hit some more. I, by the way, I love the look of the driver. I absolutely love it. I love that matte crown. Just LA Golf on top. Interestingly, at the moment, as we film this video in the middle of June, Bryson’s still not actually using this driver. I’ve seen him test it. I’ve seen him on the right driving range testing this driver. He’s still not put it in play, which is interesting. Very interesting. Also, price-wise, it it all depends on what shaft and what makeup you get, but starting price around about £522. So, fairly pricey. Can go up to can go up to much more expensive as well if you get some fancy shafts. Right, it’s enough talking, Rick. Let’s get hitting some more shots. [Music] It’s pretty solid. Little bit of a draw into the left side. Much better on numbers. Really nice hit. [Music] That’s solid. That is solid. [Music] That was an interesting one. That was very much in the heel. That didn’t feel nice off the face at all. And actually did manage to kind of find fairway. Wasn’t ridiculously long though. Only 263 carry. Oh, that’s an interesting one. That felt very, very high toe. And it’s done, if honest, what I’m expecting a high toe to do. It’s like low spin. I mean 2,200 is not super low, but kind of like really it if that I mean that’s a great example. If that shot started further right and it kind of hangs onto the left side of the fairway, you can get away with that. That still started fairly straight and then went left. That seems quite similar to a normal miss from that toe strike. [Music] Oh, that’s the best one I’ve hit. That is the best one I’ve hit. Get up there, ball. I mean, it’s not quite Bryson numbers, but that felt really, really good. 270 carry um or 272 carry, 292 total distance, decent club head speed, decent ball speed. Like I say, when I first first first got I was hitting this driver, I was swinging about 113 mph. It’s a little bit lower that 108 at the moment. See if we can just crank up a few more. Try and get a little bit more speed. Oh, low scrappy one, but it’s dead straight. It’s dead straight. Wow. For a miss strike, it’s done pretty good. I’m just trying to kind of pick up that speed a little bit. I think I can swing it faster than this at the moment. All right, going to go three more. See if we can just up that club head speed a little bit. I also did take this driver out on the golf course as well and test it up against my tailor made. We’ll have a look at that in a minute. In fact, let’s just see if we can pick up a little bit of speed. Oh, see that’s the one we don’t want to see. That is a big snapper. Low spin just completely dropping out the sky. It’s pretty solid. It’s a pretty good hit. Yeah, they’re nice numbers. Really nice. Okay, let’s have a look at the drivers when I took them out on the golf course. Okay, so I took the LA golf driver out on the golf course a couple of weeks ago. My main objective was to find the fairway. I was kind of hitting little draws and actually found like the ball flight was pretty solid. Kind of launched a little bit low, but then actually peak height was pretty solid. And time and time again, I found myself hitting fairway. Unlike the studio shots, I didn’t hit many left. If anything, I leaped a couple right, but very just kind of right rough. Hardly any danger at all. I actually found like on the golf course the ball flight was really solid. I wasn’t looking at any numbers, just literally trying to hit fairway after fairway after fairway. [Music] So that’s more like it. That was a proper strike. Okay, so that’s really interesting. Like I feel like I’ve got to be swinging this at a minimum 110 mph like to really get optimum performance. That was such a great shot. 283 yards carry, 303 total, really good spin numbers, great ball flight. Like that’s what I’ve seen out on the golf course. I feel like some early shots when I’m not swinging maybe as fast that worries me a little bit. Let’s say if I start around and I’m not swinging it at optimum speed, let’s say it’s a little bit colder, I’m wearing more layers, I’m not going to be able to swing it at my optimum speed. I feel like where my where my club head speed is around that 110 marker, it’s right on the cut line between going from one radius to another radius in the face. Like if I swung it like let’s say 117 miles per hour, I’m actually smack bang in the middle for this driver. So almost if I even if I dropped three or four miles per hour, it wouldn’t make a difference. And if I was swinging it a little bit faster, it wouldn’t make a difference. Just one observation. I don’t feel like for me it performs quite as well if I swing it any slower than kind of my average swing speed. That was nice. Go on. Get up there. Yeah, pretty solid. Pretty solid. Okay, so got mixed opinions about this driver. First off, I do like the simplicity of the look. Certainly looking down at the driver. I love that matte crown. It’s a nice head shape. Um, again, even though there’s lots of LA golf imprinted on the bottom, there’s not lots going on. There’s just one simple weight slightly in the heel. I kind of understand this radius, this kind of bulge and roll theory. I get it. And certainly someone like a Bryson who’s really extreme with his club head speed, I get it. And I also could imagine this being really good for someone who’s super extreme the other way, like a a really slow swing speed. As I’ve experienced today, I feel like unless I’m swinging it in that range where this number, this 1010 perfectly suits, which is what I should be doing all the time. Granted, I do have a few question marks around it. Doesn’t seem to kind of perform as well as I’d like it to do. Feel like it’s very much depend on my swing speed being consistent, really good all the time, which is tough. If we look at some numbers, carry distance 275. Okay, that’s pretty good. 296 total distance, 2,400 spin, and on average today, I was swinging this 109.2 miles per hour. Now, in theory, that should drop me up a radius. So, in theory, I should be using the 1211 radius on on the club here. Like that’s they should be the numbers I should be using. But saying that, if again I test it next week and I’m swinging 111 miles per hour, which I can do, I’m back on this head. So, I don’t know. I feel like I’d always be changing my opinion of it. I feel like and you can’t change that. You can’t tweak it. You can’t adjust it like you can loft. I think in principle it’s a really really good idea. I just don’t know if they’ve nailed the execution yet. And I think the proof’s in the pudding. Even Bryson’s not using it yet. I think once he does and they’ve properly cracked the formula, I think LA Golf could be really on to something. Guys, thanks for watching. Stay tuned. Lots more to come. And that was my review of the brand new LA Golf Driver.

Hasn't Foresight released statements that their devices sometimes misread shots and show a sharp duck hook and low low spin numbers? GolfBusters sussed it out and mentioned it at length in their launch monitor head to head videos

Its all about the face ‘bout da face ‘bout da face no hosel
Anyone know the name of the song that starts at 5:55?
Its hard for me to believe LA golf figured something out that hasn’t been figured out by Ping, Taylor Made or Titleist
Presuming it sounds terrible based on the sound editing
let’s be extremely clear bryson did not make this he only tested it and gave feedback he had nothing to do with the actual performance
What’s your Taylormade driver head n shaft make up?
Man I wish I could hit it like that. I use a ping G430 max and sometimes my slice goes away but mostly I don't even like hitting my driver I find I score better if I just tee off with a long iron the driver just gets me into trouble.
I bought this when it was first released as I like to tinker. I’ve found it is definitely straighter although not as long on mishits so less forgiving from a distance perspective. Against the GT2, I found it was consistently at least 10% straighter I.e. if I hit 10 balls, I consistently had one more in the fairway with the LA golf, but the shortest of the 10 ball’s hit with each driver was constantly the LA golf
Isn't that a song?
Oh, wait, that's all about the base
