Do High Launch irons really launch the ball any higher than traditional irons? I try a set of Wilson Dynapwr Max irons on the golf course to see how they perform. I’m looking for height and playability but also testing them against what i look for in a more traditional players club. This Wilson Dynapower iron review using shot tracer will show how the ball launches and how the ball reacts on mishit golf shots….. we all do that right?

question for you high launch irons do they actually work look inside this box in here so Wilson have sent me the new Dino Power Max at the thickness of that sole wow what a lovely finish I love how the shield no longer says WS so clean regular Flex probably not for me high launch shaft KBS Max lamin crossline 360 standard grips right-handed the question is will they work will they actually do what they’re supposed to do have Wilson built a golf club that flies higher than what I’m used to seeing let’s go to the course and test these out [Music] so this is my first shot of the day 144 yards using a Wilson Staff Model golf ball 9 iron down behind the ball it’s obviously a larger footprint than what I’m used to but you’d expect that from a high launch iron you need something that’s going to give you a bit of confidence Top Line quite thick it’s nice though the graphite inser in the back looks so cool as I mentioned before that Shield’s amazing look at that that’s a proper iron that’s really really cool quite a thick sole there but we need that for the high launch and forgiveness middle of the green would be good and I’m expecting a higher launch than I normally get for my current irons yeah shoved a bit to the right but it’s certainly went High wow I’ve never hit a high launch iron before I’ve never ever played High launch irons A friend of mine has the Callaway AI smoke High launch irons and they’re very good um these ones look a little bit more cumbersome so slightly larger profile in the head than the Callaway feel good though that was that’s pretty good so I mred the green Quite Comfort with the first one first shot of the day that was man not machine dirty lie here thicker Soul this is going to be interesting second ball is pretty close little eight iron make sure I get ball first okay it felt all right these These are the sort of Lies I I grade a club by if you like so I mean if it’s far too cumbersome I’m going to bounce a lot but I was able to to get the back of the club onto the ball it’s good so it says here I’m on golf. co.uk and it says here that the Dino Power Max Irons allow for massive material to be placed throughout the head giving players enhanced stability plus improved sound and feel on every shot the sound and feel felt amazing and sounded brilliant absolutely the center of gravity is placed lower in the sole providing a higher Moi for increased launch angle for maximum stopping power on those approach shots that last shot 9 stopped quite quick I’ll continue as we go so the center of gravity is placed lower in the sole probably further back wider sole more weight on the bottom help that ball launch and that last t- shop felt great I’m going to hit irons everywhere today this is a par four that just goes on forever so i’ got five iron here it looks very very cumbersome behind the the the ball I can see quite a bit of Club head behind the top Edge [Applause] there it’s just so easy to hit though see for me this is completely different the high launch thing is completely different but the game improvement head that’s not something I’ve used before but it’s definitely not something I would rule out I mean the game’s hard enough as it is this is going to make life easier why not I mentioned earlier that a friend of mine is high launch ion his hand caps five can you see on the longer eyeon there how that little bit of Club head sticks out the back see that little bit there and you see that a dress I’m not a fan of that but there’s a simple reason I’m not a fan of that it’s purely because I’m not used to seeing that I mean the the the makeup of Club I normally use does not show that so 170 left seven iron squatter it right it’s high though that that was a dreadful strike and I think that’s hit the green strike there was terrible but that was all me let’s get a better one here let’s think about I I feel as though I’m slightly I don’t know I’m not I don’t feel as I’m going to get that ball Turf you can clearly see the design for the person that it’s going to release it a little bit earlier doesn’t quite get the compression and very game improvement very easy to hit that that is on the green it’s on the right hand side of the green that last one long way from the flag shafts are too St soft for me too I can feel all that so nip that one off again a poor strike again that’s me again middle of the GRE first ball here a long way from the hole second ball you can see there that was two very poor strikes if I’d struck two strikes like that with my current irons I’m in that bunker 100% there’s no way with a strike like that would have got over the bunker with that trajectory game improvement clubs like that they help today is a world class leather glove day from Loft and Li look at that Stitch look at that Stitch full leather absolutely zero synthetic material this is old school five star reviews and people say it’s better than the titless players glove I’ll take that so I’m a huge fan of the pitching wedge using a pitching wedge around the green um it’s very underestimated the most lofted wedge I carry is a 54 so I use 54 and pitching wedge a lot let’s see how we got on here so this this is fo proof with that big sole in the bottom there it’s hard to dig in strike becomes very very easy wow that’s interesting that is very interesting I feel you know when you hit a Hybrid or a fairywood and you’ve got that big fat so that you can really strike the ground without taking a divot I feel that’s the case with this wedge which is great for these sorts of shots not good for Bunker but I’m not sure they do a sand wedge in that set I wouldn’t have that sort of soulle in the bunker but I can feel there that’s just going to pop up every shot that’s that’s awesome that that’s really wow so think about that the Forgiveness game improvement Golf Club the Forgiveness that you’re getting there is not just for full shots to the green and contact and launch I see the benefit I completely see the benefit around the green I appreciate this is a high launch iron but if I were to play that low wedge that just lands here and runs on will that work with the center of gravity being so far back so much weight in the soul and everything’s designed to get the ball in the air as soon as possible can I play my little full roll Club face getting the ball to come out low and run all the way with such a heavy soul in the center of gravity where it is yes I can yes I absolutely can so the the work the workability with a this is this has changed my world and yes there’s other manufacturers that do the same thing and I do like a little bit of Wilson action we all know that get a set of high launch irons just try them out it’s worth it 155 8 8 iron 9 iron 8 iron is normally 160 I’m taking consideration these go higher and the shaft is [Applause] softer let’s see what we can do banana going to try and draw this I’m going to see if I can work it so get a little higher of draw so start at the middle pin front left start it at the [Applause] middle it’s lovely so it’s drawing not as much as I wanted it to draw it’s just middle of the green was good though straight was good I’m a little bit toy today I think so Li angle obviously standard L angle and regular shaft regular length I am normally 1° upright and half an inch longer than standard um so not ideal for me not tragic though oh got more look how high that is good strikes though they do go high they go very high um I I tried to I tried to play a sort of high draw there certainly a draw I never tried to play Mega high but it was certainly was up drawing back towards Target strike felt good strike felt easy I didn’t feel as gain I didn’t feel as purely middled it I’m a little bit toy today I think that’s Li angle um they need to be a little bit more upright for me so I’m virgin on that side but really good I would suggest you know if you’re getting a a set of Gaming improvement irons or a set of cavity irons that are there to assist the player so something that’s a little bit more cumbersome than certainly what I’m used to using why not go for the high launch option just take all the help you can 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 155 165 so that’s not a short eight iron and it’s hit this up soap to slow down it’s landed right there so we’ve gone too far I’ve got a wedge now I’m going to try and carry my wedge over the apron of the green here now again my 54 my Wilson Staff 54 wedge with a nice tight um Leading Edge unlimited bounce is going to help me get there but let’s see what I can do with this so I’ve got a wedge I’m going to open the face a little bit these clubs are not designed for this sort of like the draw it didn’t draw as much because the club’s not designed for workability and again I’m doing something else here it’s not really designed for it’s designed for your your entry level golfer really but you know what that doesn’t mean it has to be limited just to that person or that level of player so open the face a little bit with a big fat soul confidence a little bit low here try and carry it to my spot did all right that was good need to move a little bit further my landing area but I could work that I’m not sure off a tight off a tight L this is not not going to work but then it’s going to be harder off a tight lie with any iron so that’s good as well that’s actually checking up slightly they’re all right they are very good I wonder if we’ do a putter as well oh let’s go don’t run on the greens I know 5 Hour more information ultra light design material and heel to fine tune center of gravity we talked about stock shaft KBS Max High launch grip lamin 360 Black crossline um I can’t argue any of that everything that claims to do it’s doing so far workability shot shape that’s not something that’s really mentioned they don’t advertise that because the level of play it’s not for as we discussed in the last hole I’d love to be able to shape it a little bit more let’s set five iron off the deck that hurt five it looks big that that bit behind the ball this bit of there hold on ADD dress I can see this piece that piece of material there that that sticks out and it’s not something I like to see but again again as previously mentioned it’s just something I’m not used to when I got my lab putter first it’s massive head on that lab Potter looked horrendously ugly and thought I’d made a huge mistake now I love it even though I missed those two pots on the last fire iron look at that it’s absolutely tremendous this exactly where I wanted to go down the right side that’s long that is long it just held the line of the trees a little draw coming back in there that was good I actually that was a proper golf shot hit a golf shot there so that’s the first one app ped right out the middle um clearly saw the benefit of it but the ones before that never cut in the middle saw benefit of that as well so the five IRS down there top of the ridge amazing I’ve got a 7on here I’ve just dropped a ball I’m going to try and shape this right to left I’m going to try and play a raking hook around this corner the green is left of the trees there um so it’s not 90° but it’s not far off it let’s try and really get this working around that Cor with a club that’s not designed to walk around the corner okay ah see so got it turning over but had to work so hard really thinned it as well it’s trying so hard to turn I mean it is turning don’t get me wrong but that swing it’s Miss green to the right that swing there with my irons with the workability that is way around the cornero so you can move them but the level of golfer that’s buying this club is not able to not not able to but not necessarily taking that shot on maybe it doesn’t even know how to play that shot who knows 143 wedge wedge tight lie downhill down Breeze keep it simple play about 135 135 yeah less even God I think it’s big down yeah it’s past the hole it’s pretty good to it’s it’s all right okay so we wedged in there 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 33 ft the ball stopped within 1T so when they’re hit correctly they do spin as well which is very comforting I could actually play them no bother I could play them it’s just getting over the looks of them in the first place that shot there tight lie I was looking at thinking this looks quite a big head for this lie wasn’t a problem let’s try and finished with a high launch birday High launch birday I’ve moved the camera up here to give you a better view it’s pry straight [Music] actually it was always a fight wasn’t it so good High launch par wow so there the are Wilson Dino Power Max I’ve not used the sixer and still in the wrapper I would game them I could game them um not quite as pleasing on the eye as what I’m used to but I can completely get it why my friend who plays off five has high launch irons the forgiveness is unbelievable which you’re going to get from AA Max iron but the high launch element is really it’s very comforting to see that ball fly that five iron on that last te was a high tiny little draw and that one absolutely ped that and before when I played our 10th hole there was the second hole in here I hit seven iron to the green hit them both pretty terrible to be honest with you both pin high and hit the green both pin high and hit the green on poor shots guys
