Boost Your Game: Garmin R10 & Awesome Golf for Championship Prep
i am super excited about my first tournament coming up in July it’s my amateur championship it plays at three different golf courses and today I’m going to use my Garmin R10 and Awesome Golf to train for that i’m going to show you exactly how I’m using it exactly what I’m doing to get ready for this tournament so let’s get to it before we start practicing though please consider subscribing don’t miss this journey um I’m hoping to score super low the lowest I’ve ever scored in this tournament comment down below what you think I need to practice or if you see a thing in my swing that I need to fix please let me know because I’m trying to score the lowest I can at this tournament again like and subscribe and let’s get on to the practice okay so the first thing I’m going to do is I’m going to use my um my orange whip knockup this is the Skills Gold Flex Tempo Trainer i really like this if you want to purchase one of these go ahead and there’s one linked in the description below i use this a lot for warming up on the course but I’m just going to use this and I’m just going to kind of stretch all right now that we’re done stretching what I like to do is kind of just get my body warmed up i’m hitting a golf ball finding contact and the best way to do that for me right now especially since I need to practice this shot anyway is to do a 25 yard shot so I’m going to pick my favorite club to do that which is my 56 and we’re going to just hit 25 yard shots we’re going to hit about 20 of them and we’re going to see how many out of 20 I get between uh 22 yards actually let’s go 23 yards and 28 yards so there’s about a five yard differential there i think if I can get it in there I’m shooting for about 50% in there i’m not a scratch golfer so if I can get above 50% I’ll be super excited and to do that we’re going to be using the range so I’m going to click the range on Awesome Golf and then I’m going to go into coaching and the reason I like coaching better than uh the other ranges is because you can put in clubs and put a name in for them and so later when you’re looking at the data you can actually see if you’re doing better or not based on that and you can do it with individual clubs and so when you first get started here um you’re going to be able to uh I’m going to do my sand wedge enter description i’m going to put 25 yard shot out of Man I am not able to type today of 20 that way I can go back to this and know exactly what I was doing so I’m going to grab my sandwich and I’m going to just take a couple shots this is really cool the software is super cool let’s get into it i am still focusing on some things uh with chipping because like I said this 25 yard shot is kind of my nemesis and so what I’m going to be focusing on is coming more upright with my club and then keeping that lag as much as possible or that angle with my wrist as long as possible without getting handsy with it to uh do that contact and so let’s see and then just rotating rotating is a big thing so first shot let’s see how close I can get to 25 yards that was not a great hit wow hit it really hard uh so one out of 20 the nice thing about it too if you look at the bottom lefthand corner it’ll say how many shots you have so you don’t even have to really keep track again I’m trying to do about 20 shots let’s not take it up as hard and let’s get on my front foot a little bit that might be a little bit better oh still too hard right on that center line though i’m pretty happy with that a little bit softer here that was really low that was really good 20 still a little short that was going to be short oh no nice that one felt really good yep 6 25 on the mark so I didn’t get quite 50% but uh I got nine out of 20 shots which is awesome let’s move on to the next thing that I’m working on all right so now that I’m warmed up I’m ready to move on to my next thing if you haven’t seen the first video of this series I went through my gapping or my club distances my from my lob wedge to my sixiron and I found two clubs that need a little bit of work those were my 8 iron and my sixiron i’m going to focus on my 8 iron today and I’m going to explain to you exactly what I am going to do to figure that out so the first thing I’m going to do is I’m going to go to my awesome golf uh software and I’m going to add my 8 iron as a club and so if you look here I’m going to say add club i’m going to go eight iron and what I’m going to fix is hip depth and then arm throw and I’ll explain to you exactly what that means again I’m putting those descriptions in so I can uh later look back and see what I was trying to fix and if I start hitting them really good today then I am going to be able to look at the numbers and go “Hey I really really hit them good today what did I do to fix it?” And this helps me do that again I have this simulator set up but you could bring this to uh range and do the exact same thing you could hook up this to the phone again got my eight iron and so what I’m going to be focusing on uh are two things one I’m going to always think about tempo that’s like something that is always in my mind so I don’t really call that a swing thought but I’m really going to exaggerate the pause right here i am also going to um what I’m really going to focus on is when I get up to the top I’m going to push this hip back before I start rotating and then I’m also going to bring my arm to parallel and I’m going to throw it through because you want to be intentional with your practice and to be intentional with your practice you have to actually practice and not just hit balls one after another i am probably going to hit I’m at 20 balls right now i’m probably going to hit 30 balls um and I’m going to say probably 20 of those balls are going to be with this practice I’m about to show you and then the last 10 is just me going through my routine and trying to ingrain that swing thought into just a normal shot without having to do the the practices between i’m going to do this in stages the first stage is I’m going to have two paused practices one smooth practice and then I’m going to hit the ball so it’s going to kind of look like this okay so the first two practices are going to look like this i’m going to bring it up to the top i’m going to feel this hip depth squat where I’m squatting into my hip and I’m kind of rotating my into my hip right here and then I’m going to feel like this and I’m just going to brush the ground so it’s going to feel a little pause like this so I’m going to go up feel that hip depth come down brush i’m going to do it one more time up feel that hip depth rush and then I’m going to do one smooth one without the pauses perfect and then I’m going to start off with maybe an 80 75% swing 80% swing i might not hit these good but I’m just focusing on the movements so here we go that was a little thin maybe a little bit too hard too it’s really hard to not fit yeah the club speed was 80 maybe not too f hard looking at some numbers here again I am focusing on a just a quality of strike so smash and then I’m going to look at probably my vertical launch which I want to be at about 19 to 20 with my eight iron for these speeds realistically closer to 18 probably i’m going to do my routines first there we go that was a great strike 126 smash at 75 club is right where I want to be right now very slow i probably swing my eight iron around 85 to 88 on a normal swing so that’s a nice controlled swing smash could be up i think I I don’t know if that was healy i don’t know it was very towy actually very towy i’m going to come here i’m going to rotate and throw oh that was really good oh that was so good guys that one was good that one right there I focused on tempo a little bit more and I got up to here and that swing speed is way too fast still it’s one 87 uh I felt up here that I paused but it’s like really hard not to go faster with that rotation i’m going to try to get this at at the very most 80 miles an hour again very towy still okay I got to stop swinging so hard it’s hard not to you guys it’s hard not to i get it i’m going to feel like I’m swinging this half speed i got really feel like I’m pausing up at the top there we go that’s That’s That has to be slow 77 perfect one two three smash still it was a little bit behind the ball 130 though that’s exactly where I wanted it that’s a great 131 smash 120 173 vertical launch those are those are perfect right now once I swing a little bit harder that vertical launch will go up 70 mph swing at 120 and that was a center strike that was a center strike you guys 137 smash there it was 71 see that’s that’s that’s the benefit of the having a good strike you guys 71.1 mph club with a 137 smash gave me a 97 mph ball speed and carried 140 i bet you a lot of you out there would love a 140 8 iron like and you don’t have to swing hard that’s That’s 15 m an hour slower than my normal swing and it went only 10 yards shorter than my average when I did my my club distances [Music] oh wow wow i did not stay down that was a more of a rock and roll swing rotate get rotation i have not fixed my eight iron yet i am frustrated i’m going to move on to the next thing i’m not even going to hit my sixiron what I’m going to do is I’m going to go into a little bit more game play i’m going to show you what that looks like right now so recently I saw an awesome golf that you could actually do some approach shots and have a little bit of a gameplay with it i’m going to show you what that looks right now so I’m going to go into um the range and then I’m going to go into approach shots and you don’t have to pick a club or anything you just have to pick a place and the really cool thing about this is if you go up to the upper leftand corner you see this little flag right here it says off at the moment i’m going to turn it on i’m going to go shots per pin one and I’m going to practice my 100redyard shots up to my 180 yard shots and what it’s going to do is it’s just going to randomly put me into places um so I have to pick a shot that I want to do and I have to execute it um if you look up at the top there’s number of shots hit and greens hit right now I have taken what 51 shots so far i’m gonna do about 20 of these right here and then I’m probably just gonna putt for the rest of the day honestly I’m just not hitting it well today and sometimes you just don’t hit it well but let’s see greens hit is a percentage um I’m going to aim for about 60% of the greens hit um this is going to be a 9 iron a nice flighted 9 iron i’m going to hit this kind of low and let’s start off with 100% green and Rick it’s good shot it’s gonna be short because I batted it come on stay on the green though on the green all I’m looking for is green and red that’s all I’m looking for if I can two putt things I’ll be extremely happy 165 this should be my eight iron and I know I haven’t hit it really well but I’m going to focus yep here my eight iron focus on hitting this as good as possible maybe a nice flighted that’s to the pin so there’s some room in the front so even if I don’t hit this well I think it’ll be fine best hit eight iron I’ve had all day guess not but it’s there perfect this next one is 120 let’s do a flighted gap it’s a nice easy focus on contact gap wedge oh my gosh that’s so bad is it gonna get on the green i shouldn’t oh my gosh I lucked out there you guys i shouldn’t have even No that was bad that was just straight up bad straight up bad 125 full gap that was so high like the highest gap wedge I’ve hit in a while it’s on the green though 100% after three like I said I’m going to do like 20 shots here 20 shots goal is 60% that was so good that might be too hard that was pulled first green mist you guys that was the first green mist that was out of nine so oh my gosh oh I freaking I don’t know what I did there that was a shank i’ve been toeballing it all day and I shake it not good you guys not good not a good practice session today like and they can’t all be great right they can’t all be great 120 i’m just happy I’m in my simulator i’m going to do like a soft pitching wedge in my simulator not on the golf course getting all mad at myself nice little 100 yard yeah see that was compressed as crap that was so compressed so I got 75% on that game i enjoy those games a lot um and so this is how I’m practicing in my simulator i do have to go to the range and the course every once in a while um uh one of the things that I’m going to do is go and play the three courses that we’re playing uh this weekend I’m going to play the first course that I’m playing the next week I’m going to play the second one which I’ve never played before in my life and the third one I’m going to end on the last course that we’re are playing in the tournament uh I’m going to judge how I do those things and then we’re going to move on and just practice practice practice the things that I need to to get the lowest score possible so if you enjoyed this video please like and subscribe share it with all your friends hopefully you guys will enjoy this journey to the championship that I’m going on um and until next time make your golf your project

Thanks for watching!
From "Mr Can't Break 90" — on these 20-25 yard shots, use a mid-iron to land the ball just onto the green and let it roll to the hole.
I wouldn't comment on how to "fix your swing" as you're clearly working on a few things and there's no point in undermining / drawing attention away from that – overall it's a neat swing, and bad shots are expected when practising and making adjustments. Instead my advice would be:
1. Build a wedge matrix if you haven't already. Instead of trying to feel out that 25 yard chip and hitting it 40 (we've all been there); a matrix will allow you to make a more calculated guess at what sort of swing you need with that club, and your other wedges, for a variety of distances.
2. Work on course management, especially if you're playing somewhere in a tournament. Hire a local caddy for a practise round and ask them their advice – hit a couple of shots where there's debate (e.g. your shot option and caddie's option), providing you've time, to really understand the course. Take some practise putts on each green (uphill, downhill and breaking) so you become more familiar with them – then take all of this and apply it to your pre-tournament practise.
3. Hold realistic expectations and try to hold a more positive mindset. In the final practise in this video you hit 75% of greens as a 12hcp. Assume your tee shots find the fairway and convert this to Greens In Regulation; ShotScope metrics say that a 5hcp will average 41% GIR and a 15hcp will average 21% GIR. 75% is great! Instead of a critical thought (e.g. "that shot's a bit thin") go with something more positive; "I hit the green" or "that was on line".
Thanks for the videos, and best of luck in the tourney! Cheers
