The Time Tiger Woods DESTROYED Pebble Beach
this is 24year-old Tiger Woods teeing off on the 18th on Sunday of the 2000 US Open at Pebble Beach And it was one of if not the best performance ever in a US Open However it feels like people online are forgetting all of that with all this talk about Scotty and incorrect slander about the weaknesses of the field at the time So today not only am I going to tell you about the incredible story of that week but I’m also going to queue all into some fascinating decisions that help Tiger win that will definitely help your game and also show you that though this week is remembered as perfection at Pebble it wasn’t exactly perfect golf by any means It could be a week that he just says “See you guys.” Oh he’s got the line He’s got the speed And yet another burn Nobody in their individual sport is anywhere close to where Tiger is at the top of this game Pebble Beach that’s where this was hosted and rightly so For the 100th US Open you’d expect an iconic venue and Pebble Beach offers everything that you’d expect from one as it is an iconic coastline course constantly pedled by brutally breezy bands of winds All right I’ll calm down with the aliteration I’m not Mance But the point is beautiful of course perfect spot to host a legendary US Open like the 100 Not only was this littleknown guy named Tiger Woods going out there in 2000 after winning 12 of his last 23 consecutive tournaments one of them actually being at Pebble for the AT&T ProAm where he came back from seven down in his last seven holes to win But with so many large accounts online talking about how much better the field is nowadays there’s been a bit of a haze thrown over Tigers events and and and accomplishments But you absolutely cannot say that about this US Open They had Ernie Ells who had already finished second to Tiger twice that year David Duval VJ Singh Phil Mickelson Olazabal Faldo and many more out there to compete and and honestly possibly beat the best player in the world at that point Tiger Woods All of which should have created a very difficult environment for a US Open to go on and it did for everyone else but Tiger Today it’s the first round of the 100th US Open Thursday was going to be special for Tiger For one he had an early tea time which meant getting out in front of the wild wind and getting a number in that could be as good as possible He played very strategically but also took advantage of his much longer distance and kept it in the fairway while he was at it which is very important at the US Open You’ll find especially throughout this video But that distance let him hit a lot more wedges and shorter irons And his ball striking was ridiculous for the most part that day putting him very close a lot giving him some great putts at birdie All which helped him head to the back nine at two under A very reasonable score but it would get a lot better from there However Tigers great play that did continue for the rest of that day wasn’t the only story for that week We have arrived at our national championship with an absent champion That of course because Payne Stewart’s life was taken last October along with five others in a tragic plane crash Pay Stewart’s story is an absolute whirlwind of of great wins and absolute tragedy and deserves a story in and of itself So actually subscribe for that one cuz I definitely think I’m going to be putting that out at some point But it created this vibe around the US Open at Pebble Beach where something special was going to happen It’s actually it was a beautiful memorial and I think they did great things But it was also Jack Nicholas’s final US Open ever or they were expecting it to be and so there was a bit of ceremony around that as well But with all of this going on Tiger would do all of them justice by putting on an absolute clinic on the back Again with the tamer weather conditions Tiger was able to step on it a lot more And he played a bit more aggressive today Not too aggressive but just aggressive enough which meant probably targeting pings pretty close which is actually not something most tour players do which is you know something that I’ve learned more and more as golf goes on Don’t aim at the pin Aim at the middle of the green and putt from there Figure it out But Tiger that day was pinpoint accurate grabbing another two birds in his next four And then when you thought he lost it all by taking a DOD on the par five 14th he uh just figured it out Hit one of the most insane shots that week of a nice little chip to 4 feet Unbelievable Obviously made the putt for birdie and did tiger things for the rest of the day to end the day at six under Only one ahead but it would only get better from there Round two fight after having a bogey free round on Thursday I think everyone expected him to go out and have a perfect day on Friday You heard it in the announcers voices And when you look at the number that he put up for that round it it does look perfect but when you look deeper and you watch every shot like I did it wasn’t perfect at all He was playing pretty well by all means but he was missing some fairways and a lot of green And literally he was putting maybe better than I have ever seen it It was honestly an absolute stripe show and showed me that his game at this time was better than anyone I’ve ever seen by far I’ve watched a lot of golf in the past couple years These Tiger Woods shots are ridiculous and I didn’t think his short game was this good He was putting incredibly and he was saving his butt every single time he missed the green with his wedges and his irons And he was doing that plenty Now he would finally make a bogey after 22 holes without one very similar to my game I’ll be honest But then he would go on and pull off one of the most iconic shots in golf history I would argue the one one of the most viral moments easily on on some of these Instagram reels go crazy with this edit Slamming a drive but into the rough where he would have to go around the tree or over the tree from the deep rough to make it on into Didn’t really need to go aggressive This was probably the most aggressive play he did that week and he executed it perfect landing it on the green and two putting from there for bird And that shot more so than anything else really showed me that that speed that he had is a lot more than than just driving the ball really far because it let him hit that ball out of the rough easily or easier than anyone else that week And and the announcers were saying that he is the best at or he was at the time the best at that shot ever because he swung faster maybe more confidently and had more control of his ball than anyone ever And he was actually playing with this ball right here This is the Nike Tour Accuracy TWW which is kind of like a precursor to the Prov1 It helps him get a little bit more control with his you know irons especially in his wedges But after that gorgeous shot on six it would basically just be another walk in the park no matter where he ended up because he was so good And that’s pretty much exactly what happened for the rest of the day And then on 12 which was going to be his final hole for the day he sunk a 30ft putt for birdie But because of the sun going down it would be delayed for Saturday I know I have a long way to go 36 holes on on the US Open Golf Course is a long way to go I need to keep focus You’re up 200 What’s the story Are you not happy or you’re only half happy or still to be happy about You’re up too old Job’s not finished To start off the day Tiger had to get out there super early to finish up his second round And it was clear in the dark morning dew at Pebble that Tiger didn’t have his best game in these decent conditions at the time which for now would be important because it would get a lot worse throughout the day and they would be a big factor in round three Going into his second round on Saturday and third round overall Tiger was six shots ahead and cruising pretty confidently after turning in two very good but very different rounds And I know Tiger’s third round definitely wasn’t whatever this perfect golf was because he would finally be bested in round three When Woods finally did step out onto his tea time at around 400 p.m on Saturday the wild winds of the west coast of California woke up as well The earlier tea times that day had a much easier go at it especially Ernie Ell who got off a little bit earlier and would end up having the best round of the day at 68 He had already come second to Tiger in two events that year would go on to finish second to Tiger in this event and a few more I think later that year but not on uh Saturday because Tiger did not have the game to beat Ernie with those conditions he was in Tiger even though it wasn’t his best round still handled it like ba basically as perfectly as you could have Not only was he still putting incredibly well including a nice birdie putt on too but he was hitting incredibly intelligent shots Not pins seeking today like you saw a little bit on Thursday and not taking driver a ton which is again something you saw throughout a lot of the tournament but he was playing safe playing smart and the score showed it He hit plenty of beautiful stingers with his low irons off the tea a couple times to set him in perfect positions on a lot of the reasonable or shorter par4s Tiger that day just just basically hit it exactly where he needed to He took his medicine when he needed to and recovered even when it looked really bad like it did on the third hole where he was set up perfectly to make a nice approach shot to the green when he hit was short and right whether it’s was thin or the wind really hit when he when he took his shot where it took him actually two swings to get out and then he would end up making triple bogey However I saw something there that I hadn’t seen all week which is he played really quickly Even the announcer noted it at the time that he just kind of got up there and tried to hit it out throughout this this entire round especially on the green And not just this round the whole tournament Tiger Woods took forever to take a shot It didn’t really matter at the time cuz everyone was there to see Tiger But in the era of Twitter this just would not go over well But it didn’t matter for Tiger because by the time he turned the corner headed on to the back nomie was already even par again It it was just out of sight out of mind Clicked immediately and was back to playing that safe smart healthy golf getting in good positions to make par and birdie And he did it every time pretty much Meanwhile the rest of the field was absolutely struggling Not only was the scoring average for that week for that day about a stroke and a half or something higher than all of the other days while the whole US Open was much harder than US Open’s past it didn’t matter for Tyer He just kind of handled it He did his thing Now he still played very solidly for the rest of the day but he missed greens He missed some fairways and wasn’t perfect They call this the perfection at Pebble but it was not perfect But maybe that is what’s perfect Maybe maybe there is no perfect golf You’re not going to hit the fairway and the green every single time because not even the best golfer of all time in his prime on his best round ever or his best tournament ever He didn’t even do it So maybe we’re too critical on ourselves and we got to get better around the green Stop blading it from the rough just off the green Stop doing that I’m I’m looking at you Steve Come on And he ended up walking into the clubhouse at even par for the day A very very calm and composed and professional round Today it’s the final round of the 100 US Open Tiger Woods went into the fourth round with a 10stroke lead over Ernie L’s And so there was basically nothing Tiger had to worry about even though his golf hadn’t exactly been perfect meaning not exactly every shot was where he definitely would have wanted it but he followed everything up by somehow saving that hole saving par for the most part and moving forward in an incredibly professional way that why not expect like he could do the exact same thing on Sunday And though I’ve said a lot about how this tournament wasn’t perfect the whole time his final round probably was the most I guess perfect as any of these had been On the front he only missed one fairway and one green on his way to an even run through the first nine before stepping on it much more on the back and literally as he hammered his driver past Ernie a few times who was third in driving distance that week which is wild to think because Tiger was so much further ahead of him on some of these holds It’s it’s just a stark difference between what Tiger and everyone else could do with his speed It didn’t matter where he was on the course He was just able to control his ball so incredibly well With all that speed Tiger Woods was firing shooting four under on the back to finish at 12 under for the tournament and complete one of the greatest victories of all time winning by 15 strokes the highest margin of victory victory still to this day and a lowest score in a US Open by three strokes ever in the history of the tournament I think to say Tiger dominated is an understatement but he did not play perfect golf or at least what I believed was perfect golf And and the way people describe it it was messy It was scrambly It it was beautifully not perfect It was exciting It showed that he was great at literally everything and that this Tiger Woods idea that we have today and that we hear talked about by announcers is just a little piece of what he can actually do or what he actually did at the time And it’s beautiful that the USGAA does such a great job making these videos available to everyone Again I’ll have them linked down below But if you enjoyed this video and you want to see more from me I made another story about the history of the Prov1 that you can watch here talks a little bit about that tiger tigers ball and or or this one about the tiger slam which this US Open win was just one little piece of Thank you for watching and I’ll see you in the next one Peace everybody

"Job's not finished" RIP Mamba
This tournament is still one of my favorite go-to Tiger moments. That wide spread over the field against that level of competition will never be seen again.
I was 2 years old when this happened and have no memory of it as it happened obviously, but from the amount of times I’ve rewatched it I feel like I lived it😭 Rory’s scoring record at Carnoustie was very good, but this was other worldy in terms of brilliance and reslience. Bad shots countered with shots that had literally never been seen before.
Rolu is a tiger baby, product of the 90s…
His putting in general was bloody ridiculous in 2000. I don't think the ball change could have contributed much to that.
Play some golf young man.
Real golf fans know the truth. Could have went to -18 under. Didn’t need to push it due to the beating the field took.
No such thing exists as in perfection but this was as close to it as anything in the history of sports. It’s not ONE game of one play, it’s a systematic display of skill, talent, and mental fortitude over four days, 72 holes, and 272 shots.
Tiger’s 2000 Pebble Beach win: pure golf mastery.
