The word rotation is so misused and I know you have a good drill here but as human beings we inevitably don’t think in 3d we think linearly and most people are going to think of ap force when you’re saying rotational when in all reality like one of your last videos you mean move laterally and vertically which in the mean time will make you rotate enough to achieve that… 99% of amateurs should never think about rotating/ opening up on the down swing it’s why nobody ever gets any better

  3. I get so much out of your videos Eric, thank you! If you get a chance, I'd be very interested in your seasoned opinion on what I believe was a mental break through for me involving rotation. It is turning out to be the last missing piece and now my golf swing is finally consistent and feeling more like a balanced "dance move". The thought may seem "hyper literal", but it may help other hyper literal tendency thinkers like me.

    It's that the wrist joint is physically incapable of rotation. Without getting into technical terms, we know the wrists can "fish tail" and "hammer" but they cannot rotate (zero, nada, no rotation possible whatsoever). The rotation of the clubface beyond the natural arc of the rotating spine comes from the forearm (elbow) and shoulder joints. Once I really thought about that I focused on having the wrists "cooperate" with a well-timed, balanced, natural rotation of the arms (via the elbow joint and ball and socket shoulder joint). I stopped trying to control the rotation with my wrists and instead made sure my wrists were neither inhibiting / blocking the rotation nor causing / initiating or controlling it. I stopped having the tall wag the dog. With the wrists specifically I'm now only working on well-timed, balanced, cooperating with the rest of the swing, "fish tailing" and "hammering".

    To some this might seem like ridiculous over-thinking, but for those whose brain is wired like mine I think it might help. None of this is to minimize the importance of proper rotation, but only to mentally have the dog wag the tail and not the other way around. Before this change in thought, my hands and wrists seemed in a fog not knowing quite what to do and my clubface position at impact was very inconsistent. Now the clubface position consistency has increased dramatically.

  4. I don't understand that first test. I can reach the forearm, not the club. My right arm would have to about 6 inches longer than the left. No rotation required.

  5. This move completely changed my game. I went from a 20 handicap to an 8 handicap darn near overnight. I went from 210yrds off the tee to 270yrds off the tee. Went from 155yrd 7i to 175yrd 7i with easy. This absolutely works!!

  6. Nice drill. It would be nice to try it with one of your students and see how good they hit the ball.
