Majors are unpredictable and to no one’s surprise, Aaron Hills put up quite the test on day one here at the US Women’s Open. Let’s run back what happened in Wisconsin. I’m Hope Arnett and you’re watching LPGA Now. Let’s get into it. The leaderboard is crowded as ever with five tied at four under. When asked what it takes to do well out here, I think Angel Yin, one of the leaders, said it best. My ball striking. I mean, if you play a USJ event, they’re just asking for a good ball striking and uh I hope I do that for the rest of the week. As many have said, it’s about who can minimize mistakes the most, especially on setups like this. And these are the ones that did it today. We have Julia Lopez, Ramirez, Angel, a former US Women’s Open champ, Alim Kim, Jinhi M, Yimi No, and Rio Teada at the top. Not only were they eliminating mistakes, but Yulimi was out there chipping in for Eagle. Stop. Oh, what a shot that is. Yeah, I hit it really well today. Again, hitting a lot of fairways, a lot of greens. Um, even though the fairways are really big out here, you still have to place yourself in the right spot. So, I think it’s really important. And putting was good, really solid. And that chip in on 14 was is nice. Yeah. Can you talk me through that, actually, because we got to see it thankfully um on TV. So, talk me through that. Yeah, it was it was funny like I I said earlier um I had the same exact chip um during one of my practice rounds. Um same pin, same place and it went in. My caddy and I were joking like oh I used it up but it was nice to see that go in. I couldn’t see it from where I was but um I’m hoping to see a play playback of it and see how it went in cuz I heard it like stopped in front of the hole. But it was nice. Her last hole of the day. Oh, what a great approach into this closing hole. Paige will have that for birdie. And making birdies look simple. Oh, she opens with 68 at the US Women’s Open. What a good opening campaign. Am carded six birdies and two bogeies. And like Elimini, she’s already won once this year. And I’m sure she was thanking her lucky stars for the pin on this putt. Somebody told me alien what do you want to win again? So I said US Open. Yeah because there is long history and then once year uh very very hard course setting and then US Open winner like great shot great putter great management everything’s everything is very important. So I said I think US often is number one in the tournament. Jinhi M who has been so close so many times to winning had a flawless day. And you know who we should never count out? Japan’s Rio Teada. She’s already won twice on tour and never backs down from a big moment. This shot from Gabby Lopez was one of my favorites from the day. Sure. just how much wa the players are dealing with with the slope that I think actually a fortunate kick off the flag stick. Oh, come on. Way to start the day for Gabby Lopez. With another day of golf in store here at the US Women’s Open, be sure to tune in to watch the second round and come back here to watch my daily recap show.
