Joel Dahmen is back in the Dominican Republic and better than ever! The 2021 Corales Puntacana Champion made a powerful statement in Round 1 of the 2025 Corales Puntacana Championship, firing a bogey-free 10-under 62 to take the solo lead.
His round included 10 birdies, setting a new tournament record and matching the season-best birdie total, placing him in elite company on the PGA Tour in 2025.
Dahmen, now eyeing his second PGA Tour win, looks right at home on a course he knows well—Corales Golf Club. His clean scorecard puts him two shots clear of Keith Mitchell, Matt Wallace, and Garrick Higgo heading into Round 2.
➕ “The Masters motivated me to get back on the golf course,” Dahmen said.

Joel Domen made a statement in the opening round of the Corales Pontakana Championship, torching the course with a bogey-free 10 under 62. The impressive effort not only gave him the solo lead, but also set a new tournament record for birdies in a single round. Domin, the 2021 champion, is looking to become the first two-time winner of the event while also chasing his second career PGA Tour victory. The 62 was powered by 10 birdies, matching Keith Mitchell’s total for the day. Though Domen’s clean card gives him a two-shot edge over Mitchell, Matt Wallace, and Garrick Higgo heading into the second round. Back on a course that clearly fits his eye, Domin was riding the good vibes of past success in the Dominican Republic. The 36year-old, making his 221st career tour start, leaned into the comfort and familiarity of Corales Golf Club. I get good feelings when I come back to this place. Do said good vibes. While Domin was off last week during the Masters, he kept a close eye on the action at Augusta National. That he says helped reset his mindset after a missed cut at the Valero Texas Open. The Masters motivated me to get back on the golf course. Domin said, “I had a sour taste leaving San Antonio. I needed the week off. needed to get my mind right for this stretch of four weeks in a row. So far so good. His round puts him among elite company this season. He and Mitchell are just the fifth and sixth players to make 10 birdies in a round this year with only Justin Thomas doing better, carding 11 in the first round at the RBC Heritage. Domin’s strong start signals he’s ready to make a serious push, not only for the title in Puntaana, but also to reassert himself on tour. With solid form, confidence, and a course he clearly enjoys, the doors open for something special this week in the Dominican sunshine.
