In my case it is hip problem. What can we do if that stops side bend?
Amazing video—best on YouTube! Love this Shift and Lift technique
Love your golf swing! The way you explain the lateral movement and lead shoulder lift is so clear
My God! This is pure gold. 11 minutes of great drills and awesomeness. The knees win the race to the ball.
Best instruction on YouTube by far! Shift and Lift has transformed my approach to the game
What an unbelievable video! So good! The Shift and Lift method makes so much sense now 😮
I’ve had online lessons from Craig and he’s so much better than anyone I’ve ever seen
Fantastic golf instruction! Keep up the great work, Craig
Great Video!
Great video. Keep up the great work, Craig
Craig, your lessons are always clear and effective. Appreciate all the effort you put into these videos
Your teaching methods are top-notch. Thanks for sharing your knowledge
Great video Craig 👍and great to see min woo have the break thru win 🏆🏌🏻🏌🏻⛳️
Mac O'grady would approve.
Tired of my struggles and I’m tired of watching YouTube after YouTube. I can never ever get into that position. I can’t even fake it going slow motion. No matter what I try or what I do I am flipped, scooped and completely destroyed at impact position.
I can hold anything else in my hand and get into that position, no problem. But the second you put golf club in my hand, it’s 100% going to be scooped at impact.
Pretty simple…. Left shoulder at the ball, Right shoulder at the target. How hard can it be. 🙂
Thanks for the continued and helpful content! 🏌️
I started thinking about that last year and after going to the driving range this year and trying to stay low I noticed my ball compression and aim was waaaaay better

Thanks. It is a great video to make sure I do the right rotation. 2 more days to go driving range to practice with those drills. Thanks again.
Great drills and info. Not sure if it's a trick of the camera angle, but at the top of his backswing on the DTL, Hogan's shoulders look flatter than the other players. Compared to Trevino, his chest seems far less open. With me, flat shoulders on my backswing always lead to inconsistency, but I'm not a world-class athlete who's hit 100 times more balls than me. Questions are, would anyone "teach" that shoulder angle in the backswing? If it's optimal for his swing, are there adjustments he makes to reach perfect position at impact? When I get too flat on my driver swing, my adjustment is to carry extra balls to replace the ones in the water.
I’ve improved the swing of friends I play with simply by statically posing them in the PRO impact position BUT with only their lead hand on the club and them tell them to put their trail hand on the grip. That the point in their golfing experience they realize what SIDE BEND does and why it is critical for hitting powerful straight shot and finishing in balance.
Most recreational golfers, especially seniors don’t side bend because its rarely mentioned in golf instruction or is conflated and confused with TILT.
The way I distinguish TILT vs SIDE BEND whether or not spine is straight and pelvis and shoulders stay parallel / / With side bending the lumbar (lower) spine bends ) ( which causes the shoulders to rise and fall INDEPENDENTLY from the tilting and/or rotation of the hips. SIDE BENDING isn’t even a accurate description of the actual movement and cause and effect because the spine rotates and twists as it ) ( bends sideways 🥨
The most useful aspect of Side Bend in a golf swing is that it can be CONSCIOUSLY and INDEPENDENTLY executed at any point in the swing arc to reverse the direction of the club head and SPEED UP THE HANDS relative to how fast hip and shoulder rotation is moving the.
At address with club hanging down in front behind the ball a slight bit of side bending )( and nothing else will overcome the INERTIA of the club head mass and create a smoother more rhythmic take away feel.
At the point in the extension the momentum is pulling club shaft and arm ram rod straight <—-=== 🤷🏼♂️ just a bit of ( forwards side-bend will alter the FORCE VECTOR whipping the club up effortlessly ^ because of the way that long high MOI lever MULTIPLIES that small ( movement.
At the top of the backswing or at any point in between a bit if ) trail side bend will ‘put the brakes’ on and make it easier to reverse direct without contracting the arm muscles is a pulling down action which will lock up the wrist and inhibit free release and acceleration of the clubhead around the hands.
The physics required to keep bend in the shaft — storing kinetic energy — is to keep hands pulling against the every decreasing inertia of the club head mass INERTIA ————> Hands >>>> The easiest way to do that? Progressively increase side bending as the club drops down, really cranking it up as hands pass between waist and back foot KEEPING BACK FOOT GROUNDED..
It is the combined actions of side bending and keeping the back foot grounded that allows the club momentum acting on club head mass to pull the trail arm straight and left of center =) around the feet through impact keeping hands the same radius =) ) away from body and ball as they were set up at address IF POSED IN THE STATIC PRO IMPACT POSITION AS PART OF THE SET UP RITUAL
The problem with 99.9999% of recreational golfers is not CONSCIOUSLY knowing where body hands and club need to be at that key way point and the other two critical ones: takeaway and finish extensions Teach a golfer those three waypoints — which take about 30 min — and you will greatly improve their swing but you’d need to charge 💵 $1,000 for that lesson to make a living teaching golf that way which is why most PGA professionals don’t start the noobs what way 😂
Hi Craig, great video as always. Would a better understanding of how to set up help? I was thinking lots of us amateur players probably tend to have a flat shoulder line throughout the backswing, thus stopping us from having that desired impact position?

And they put a flag in the hole. Just to give you hope!! I believe the overwhelming majority of amateur golfers are physically incapable of the athleticism required to rotate their hips properly. I know I'm not. But. Keep banging away. 🙂 (Hope this video helps that .01%)
This move has really helped with my iron striking, but I can't seem to mimic it with the driver. In fact, it makes it much worse
how do you stop from hitting it fat, if you are staying down, effectively staying lower?
FANTASTIC…video, I wish I had watched your video 10 years ago. Thank you so much.
That trail foot movement is sooooo important!! Very few people / coaches discuss this. Without it your game is pretty much dead. At least for males. Women players can get away with a slightly different movement as they're generally significantly more flexible than males. My coach picked up on this movement, or lack of it in my case. We routinely return to this when old bad habits return. As soon as you aren't moving like this it signifies the right hip/knee coming forward and bingo, no more room for club to come into impact correctly (from inside path). I would temper with a caveat that there would be quite a few players that struggle with this ankle mobility and on a larger scale, with the positions of the Pros. However it is possible to improve mobility with some proper training.
Great video. Really solid tips. I've actually started pre banking my trail foot to get that feel vs the standing up during the downswing. It helps me feel a good turn as well preventing any swaying. Well done video and I love all the swing references.
Mhhh for me the biggest mistake in downswing, turning the hip !! to early pull is coming
This is one of the best golf instruction videos I have ever watched in 30 years, out of hundreds.
The simple reason 99% of amateurs fail to get into that position consistently, Is because they lack the fundamental talent to repeat their good swing.
properly the best drill out there, well done!!
