A man has been accused of causing damage to US President Donald Trump’s golf course in Turnberry earlier this month.

On 8 March, a green at the course was dug up, another had the words “Gaza is not for sale” scrawled on it, and one of the buildings at the Ayrshire resort was defaced with red paint.

A 33-year-old man has now been charged in connection with
the damage after being apprehended on 12 March. He is due to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court on Monday.

In a post on
Truth Social, Trump wrote: “I was just informed by Prime Minister Starmer of the United Kingdom that they caught the terrorists who attacked the beautiful Turnberry, in Scotland. They did serious damage and will hopefully be treated harshly. The three people who did this are in prison. You cannot let things like this attack happen, and I greatly appreciate the work of Prime Minister Starmer and UK law enforcement.”

The charge comes a day after two people, a 75-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman, were detained on suspicion of vandalism.

They have now been released, and police said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
