TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – One of the top golfers in the world has committed $1 million to the Crimson Standard that will be directed to Crimson Reserve, the home of the Crimson Tide’s men’s and women’s golf teams.
Justin Thomas, a two-time major champion who was a student-athlete at Alabama from 2011-2013, recently committed the $1 million to the program according to Alabama Athletics.
The Louisville, Kentucky native, who had had a stellar career in just two seasons in Tuscaloosa before turning pro, helped Alabama Athletics design Crimson Reserve over the last few years before it officially opened in fall 2024.
Thomas says he loves Alabama and that it was a dream to help build Crimson Reserve and to still be part of the program.
“It’s hard to put into words the love and feelings I have for The University of Alabama. I was so lucky to be able to spend two incredible years playing under Coach Seawell. He and his wife, Stephanie, were, and still are, like family to me. This dream of making the Crimson Reserve couldn’t be done without Coach Seawell and Coach Potter and what they’ve done with the programs. I’m honored to have a very small part in it.”
Crimson Reserve officially opened Sept. 6, 2024 and is just less than one mile from the UA campus. The facility includes all new state-of-the-art technology and a 7,200 yard 9-hole course that can be played as an 18-hole course in different variations.

“Alabama Athletics is incredibly grateful to Justin for his commitment and support of the Crimson Reserve and our golf programs,” said Alabama Director of Athletics Greg Byrne. “We are proud to have one of our finest student-athletes give back to his sport, both financially and with his input on designing our world-class facility.”
Throughout his career, Thomas has been a very outspoken fan of all Crimson Tide sports, and UA men’s golf coach Jay Seawell says his impact is always felt in Tuscaloosa.
“I am so proud of Justin and thankful for what he’s meant to our program and The University of Alabama. He is a big part of the legacy of Alabama golf. It means so much that he would be willing to give back to the golf programs. His impact while at the Capstone and his success on the PGA Tour continues to inspire our current players and his gift will impact young men and women who choose Alabama golf for years to come. This gift reflects the kindness and character of Justin and his family and their commitment to the future success of Alabama golf. We could not be more grateful for his generosity and love of The University of Alabama.”
Alabama women’s golf coach Mic Potter says he is grateful for Thomas’ investment into the Crimson Tide golf programs.
“Alabama women’s golf is extremely grateful for Justin’s commitment to not only the Crimson Reserve, but also his investment in our student-athletes. Justin Thomas’ impact on Alabama Golf goes beyond the course, and we are thankful that he is giving back to the sport that he excelled in during his time at Alabama and currently in the PGA.”
Thomas will tee off his 11th full season on the PGA TOUR in 2026.
