Terrific addition to the Fried Egg portfolio. Wish it wasn’t so hard reasoning with golfers that strategic course = more interesting golf and better golfers
Agreed with the first comment. Fantastic. Consider, at some point, doing a golf course architecture 101 discussion, where you explain things like what a Redan green is or a Mackenzie, and just some of the strategic considerations architects consider and how they are practically laid out.
Skillful interview. Your ability to give Geoff space, listening and not talking over his answers is something missing in alot of the other TFE content.
Perfect content for the golf lover.
Great interview and nice to hear what a golf nerd GO is! I watched him win the German Amateur Championships in 1996 on my home course! I bet he cannot remember that win!
Geoff’s thinking about architecture is as good as you could want from a pro. He connects the lessons he learned growing up playing some of the best courses with the role of the course as the ultimate instructor. If he delivers to his clients courses that ask the questions and explore the gray areas of golf the way Melbourne and Vic do for their members, he is going to create some great courses. Can’t wait to see what Geoff Oglivy does as an architect.
Geoff needs to update his info. Sandy is now $70 on the weekend. Not cheap anymore! The modern young kid is not getting around there every day of the week unless they have deep pockets.
