Pine needles should be #1
Pinehurst 8 should be #2
Pinehurst #2 is not that hard and is way over priced, just historical

Pine Needles and Mid Pines are both as nice and more enjoyable to play than #2.

Pinehurst #2 is extremely difficult and not enjoyable. It would not even be in my top 8. Did not enjoy Tobacco Road. Blind shots and ugly dirt ravines. Tricked up golf.
Bayonet at Puppy Creek in Raeford is a top 10. Also has the best practice range. Of all the Pinehurst Resort courses #4 is my favorite with #8 second. Pine Needles is on my list as I go to Pinehurst 4 times a year. I have daughter there.
Played most of these but I'm partial to playing The Legacy when we're down in this area.
Pinhurst #2 was more enjoyable with rough. They honestly need to bring back some irrigation heads. I wouldn't mind the sand outside so rough not directly off the fairway.
