If we learn to start correct from the top we will make everything a lot easier. More speed and control from one simple move that only about 10% of all golfers are doing.
Online lesson are now a possibility on Skillest: https://skillest.com/app/profile/marcus-edblad
Let me help you get an effortless golfswing with speed and accuracy. I call it the circle of speed. A good release will help you to a better impact and longer drives and irons without slice and hook. How to swing a golf club need to be adjusted to your skill level and experience.
Long and straight is the goal for everyone but it takes time. Try to focus on one thing not everything when you practise. Impact, face control and swingpath will always be the most important part to drill. We focus too much on rotation but no good golf shot will be executed just by rotating.
I’m naturally right handed but all my tips works for both left handed and right handed golfers playing either way.
We also need to understand that many myths in golf are misleading. Everything that you find on the internet isn’t true. Ben Hogan, Sam Snead are two of the legends that are often misunderstood. To understand golf we need to take it step by step and learn every part of the swing before we move on to the next. It’s like a big jigsaw puzzle that we all can figure out.
Some pro’s that hit draw: Rory McIroy, Xander Schauffele, Patrick Reed, Sepp Straka and many, many more.
We shall not keep our head still, only start with the hips, look only at the ball or keep the left or right arm straight. Understand what do do with the club and let your body find the best way possible.
If you use callaway, ping, titleist or taylor made clubs doesn’t matter you can learn to hit good golf shots. Your loft or your shaft on the club will not change but you can always get better.
Find what inspires you. Golf basics are the same for everyone. The pga tour, longdrivers or other good golfers can all help you find better golf shots. Watch what they do instead of listed to what they say. Listen mostly to your body and figure out what you need to do to produce the same results as the pros on TV. Be careful when you watch a golf swing in slow motion. The result isn’t always what the golfer is trying to do. Feel and real are seldom the same.
Mike Malaska, Mike Austin, Mike Dunaway, Pete Cowen and Steve Pratt are some of my favorite golf instructors online. Find the tips that make your golf better. Decide what you want to hit. I teach a draw but many like a fade and nobody likes a hook or slice.
Your hips or your lag is not the key to golf. Your hands will decide the shot and you can do like Tiger Woods and trust your hands. Teach your hands to hit different shots. Hit big hooks and slices to understand what happens. Only straight is not gonna teach you anything.
Bryson Dechambeu and Kyle Birkshire can inspire you to hit it longer. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson can give you inspiration and motivation to test new things and new golf shots. Linn Grant, Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg can show you the future of golf.
The Masters, Players Championship, The Players, The Open and US Open can make you love golf even more. See the best in the world solve all the problems we all need to master any golf course. Golf is a craft and you need fantasy, feel and skills to master it.
Questions my videos will answer:

I've also been away, great to see you back hopefully you're cancer free. I also just battled Thyroid cancer. As someone who plays left-handed these videos are gold. May 2025 be your best year ever.
Great video. …one of your best. Glad you did a video on this….a great video for the New Year! I've been working on this for several months…. it takes alot of discipline…it's so easy to use the rotation of the body/ shoulder first and not the arms first. The arms moving don't feel like a strong enough move…but you need to trust it and just do it… the results are AMAZING when you do it. I plan on taking your online golf lesson soon…. just need to get a few good videos of my swing first. Happy New Year to you!
Hey Marcus. All of a sudden I'm seeing a lot of videos about pulling vs throwing. Seems alot like what you've been saying for a long time now. Check it out
Thank you Marcus for showing both right and left. I am a right handed golfer and your tips have helped me tremendously. Thank you so much. Happy new year. Let’s have a good one. Keep the lessons coming thank you again, sir.
this advice is so great I played for the first time in months today and all I got from my playing buddies was "you have been playing without our knowledge " I haven't been but I do practice using Marcus YouTube tips 🙂
Marcus, you are the most consistent and on message teacher around. Thank you!
Thanks!
Appreciate your videos and teaching style. I Get more pop and acceleration using the trail arm and the pushing motion. Understand your weight tends to be on the back foot as pointed out by Chad. Some of us do better as front posters of our weight for stability. Do you have adjustments or advice in using your swing principles for those of us that feel better front loaded or weight loaded? Thanks and Happy and Healthy New Year
This a great video. One of the best I have seen in golf instruction.
FOR ALL YOU RIGHT HANDERS …. you can get the free "mirror" video extension for YT videos from google. you simple upload it and it will show on the YT screen with yellow arrows… click the arrowS and it will show all Marcus swings as right handed. It's great and it's free.
I understand the shoulder and arm move . Is this the initial down swing move ? Hogan talked about hips and legs first , Corey Pavin initiated the down swing with left shoulder going towards the target . Are you describing this movement after an initial move and turn to the target ?
Hope I have not misunderstood . Valuable insights as ever !
Absolutely, Marcus. And just as I said before your sternum has gone back 6-8 inches (which is a lot) at the top of the backswing. Trail shoulder is higher and the trail hip is also higher than the lead one at the top. Then you drop the hip and the shoulder VERY quickly in the early downswing so that the trail hip and knee are coming in from behind the lead ones (fron the rear of your body). By the time your hands are around hip high, the knees and hips are level and parallel to the target line but the shoulder line is still ( I'm guessing ) close to 45 degrees closed with a big wrist angle still available to unload. So tons of stored power in the shoulders and trail arm and club combo. Then you drive all of that trail side power out towards the ball and around towards the target.
With the driver in particular you drive out, under and upwards with the trail shoulder and arm, so basically perfect angles for high, low spin, draws. With irons the motion is similar except that the trail shoulder drives much more level in the late downswing and through the hit. I think as you are saying that the quick lowering of the trail shoulder and hip in the early downswing is very central to the effectiveness of your motion and I also think that as you do that some of the weight (or pressure) has to move back down onto the trail leg before the trail leg moves very far out toward the ball and before a lot of the weight has gone to the lead side. All of this together is creating motion of "the circle" as it is setting you up to really deliver the trail arm. And it really is a circle, not just with the trail arm, since the trail side has gone up and back and then down and out towards the ball and round towards the target. Happy New Year to All. Cheers.
Hey, Marcus a good one again, Happy New year
Exact what i needed at the moment. I try to loose the fear of hit down on the side. Till now it works on al my shots except the driver. Living in the Algarve now i can try it on course every day from now on. Lets go. Thanks for the wonderful lessons
Making the low point of my Driver swing 3 feet behind the ball as you encourage has improved my game so much I no longer watch any one else on YouTube.
Best wishes for 2025.
If you're a right-handed golfer your right arm goes across your chest or down it is short but your lead arm left arm is the long part of the swing
Happy New Year!
This is the most IMPORTANT move in golf. Watch this time and time again everyone. Once you have mastered this move your game will improve. I am 68yrs old and learnt this move by independent study. I hit the ball further and straighter with a natural draw. Marcus. Well done! Great explanation.
I enjoyed the lecture. I think the reason why it is difficult to downswing with your method is because we do not know how to coordinate the use of the lower body and the movement of the arms. Please also give a lecture on the use of the lower body paired with the movement of the arms. I watched your video and tried to follow it, but I did not get as fast as I thought. I hope you will be happy in 2025 and make many good videos like you do now.
Happy New Year Marcus glad to see you back, I was missing those daily tips from December lol
I think it was Ernest Jones who said a good golf instructor needs to explain things in many ways because everybody understands things differently. I have struggled with the circle of speed, but this new video makes perfect sense! I get it now, and I feel great!
Thanks Marcus, i need to focus more on that, still working on fully de-programming myself from the rotating too much, consciously. Though still, nothing i have tried previously, works as well as your main teachings Marcus. I still think Moe Norman was pushing with his trail arm, he even mentions in a video, that his swing is like a hockey swing. peace love light
Great stuff!
Hi, Marcus, thank you for your content. I am adopting your circle of speed method. One thing I'd like to know is whether the angle of outward swinging decreases as the iron's loft increases (or shots become shorter), and how much in to out you swing on pitching, chipping and even putting… Thank you.
I keep trying to swing down but I turn first. Any Iideas or drills to start with arms first
Bravo Big Swede … you lifted many a vail over eyes and minds with the explanation on what parts of the body makes the down move in The Marcus Swing
At one time there was a folded up piece of paper that you could get at most gas stations in the days gone by called a road map and it was to help travelers get to there points of destinations
You can tell a traveler to turn left or right or go straight to get to where they want to go and sometimes depending on the driver … he or she had a 50/50 chance getting there but…
You put that road map in there hands showing highways and roads and streets and names to them… then the %’s got much higher that they would complete there trip
You proved here that the down swing isn’t the chest making it happen and why but it’s the shoulder and arms and if I may …somewhat the back muscle … something you might find in a road map called streets and roads
You sharing your knowledge is admirable and the words you use will make the learning process more meaningful but the lack of words can delay the process … today the process was ignited like the fire works bring in the new year
The more you explain about what body parts are used in your explanations … more the % rates for use travelers to get to our destination go up
Just like looking at that road map
Now… if I can only fold it back up 😉
Bravo 👍⛳️👍
A good tip I picked up along the same lines is to imagine a paint brush attached to your club-head, and at the top of the backswing paint a stripe down the wall until your hands reach your right pocket before you fire your hips to rotate into impact! Cheers
Tried this today and it worked great. Better path and almost 30 yards longer drives. It took a while to feel the difference but than it was amazing. 👏
Happy New year
I have seen a video featuring David Duval who said he feels much the same trail arm action as you teach in this video.
Great to see you back!
I figured that out in the last few months as the season. To get my first move down instead of rotating my shoulder just as you have said.
Glad to hear you're cancer free! My wife underwent 7 weeks of chemo & radiation for throat cancer recently, and her prognosis is good as well.
So, this is what is commonly referred to as "shallowing"?
Marcus!
Happy new year my friend. Another great video, and thanks for your support Marcus.
On holiday, and playing golf pretty well.
More skillest when I get back home. 👍 A couple of issues with release on course. 🥴
Jacko
Great video Marcus. I’m 80 and have played the game for 70 years; this move is something I figured out long ago but to this day have trouble doing on a consistent basis. There is an instinct at the top of the backswing to go at it with the dominant trail shoulder, and for some (like me) it’s an extremely difficult instinct to overcome. As you teach here, the key is to leave the trail shoulder in place as you start the downswing with your arms. Easier said than done, but you do a great job here of showing us the right way to do it. 👍
I’m in giving up the game desperation. I’m over the top and have spent thousands on lessons. I’m 54 not that flexible. I’ve tried all these drills and gimmicks and when I address the ball it’s immediately back STEEP. HELP
Marcus, hello! Using some of your advice today, I was able to increase my distance and repeatability without experiencing the hip soreness that comes with the "normal" swing that almost everyone teaches. I appreciate you sharing these insightful teachings.
I think it is a combination of arms , body , and shoulders
Have to keep it athletic.
Hi Marcus – I'm working on using gravity to drop the club and then hit and rotate but my brain struggles to make this connection in what is a new approach to the swing. As the weather is poor here in Scotland I swing without a golf ball so I don't see what the real result is. It is tough going.
