Today Ian is in the bay to test out three different clubs, a Callaway Apex UT Driving Iron, Titleist TSR2 Hybrid and Titleist GT2 Fairway Wood all set at 18 Degrees to see the differences in ball flight and performance at the same loft.

  1. gt3 5w with ventus black tr, is a revelation… no left bias in it at all, at a1, cheers guys, another banger

  2. Been trying to figure out this part of my bag for a few years now, super frustrating. however I think having some combo of hybrid/Fw that are interchangeable depending on wind/course conditions is pretty key. Flighting down a 7 wood on a really windy day is really a big ask for me personally vs hitting a lower flighted shot with hybrid. I'm still wrestling with the idea of moving to a 4 wood instead of a 3 wood, and haven't been able to commit fully to using a 7 wood even though its probably better for me. Just don't have the confidence in it the way I do a hybrid…golf am i rite? lol

  3. I never understood how people hit these the same distance… my 19° 3i goes 245, 23° 5hy goes 235, and my 21° 5 wood goes 255 lol. So to see someone hitting these always threw me for a loop

  4. As a mid-handicap I can't reliably hit the 4i in my bag unless it's on a tee. Why would I even consider a 2i? I do have an 18* hybrid and a 18* 5 wood. To induce a lower flight path I just move the ball back at address a couple of inches. For higher trajectory I put the teed up ball closer to my lead foot and do admit that the 5W does fly higher than the hybrid.

  5. I’m the same as Ian with hybrid working indoors and struggling or not liking it on the course. I ended up added a 9 wood and it’s my favourite club in the bag

  6. Problem with about 90% of golfers is that they don’t have the speed for a 2 iron to be efficient. 5 wood might also be very similar to the 3 wood and often times like with Mikey is that the 3 wood is often kept in the bag during a round of golf. Hybrid has probably more versatility and is what I ended up picking for myself (17 & 21 degrees).

  7. Currently gaming the TSR2 hybrid turned down to 17*. It’s an absolute weapon off the tee and so easy to hit off the fairway. It kicked my Mavrik 16.5* 4w out of the bag recently that had been a mainstay for three years prior.

  8. This is what ive been trying to figure out myself. The hybrid and 5w was too spinny and going nowhere (might also have been the shaft on them. I believe they r high launch shafts even though its a stiff shaft). 2i just isnt the easiest to hit especially off the ground. Also the 2i maybe its too light? As it has a graphite shaft vs steel shaft for the rest of my iron set. I def think i need my first fitting session soon. My numbers r very similar to his. Need to figure out my 230-250 yard club.

  9. For me , its 5wood no doubt about it . I love my 5 wood in all situations even out of par 5 fairway bunkers…i struggle to decide on 4iron or 4hybrid but lean towards 4hybrid accept when i gotta punch out under trees, then i want my 4iron cus i can fade it draw it slice it or hook it and keep it knee high amd run it out

  10. This part of the bag is super tough. I’ve settled on 13 clubs with a super hot low spin Srixon 5 wood and cobra king tec 4 hybrid. Both are easily a club longer than they should be but retain ease of launch and stick on greens. I’m convinced the 5 wood I have is really a 4 wood that just had 5 wood painted on it.

I’m trying a driving iron as the 14th club but second my swing is a tiny bit off I’m dead in the water.

I do have a 7 wood and 3 wood too but when any one of those are in there’s too much overlap.

Either going to go for some kind of cheat stick to help my short game (what I SHOULD do) or be one of those guys who gets suckered into the mini driver hype (what I should not do 😂)

  11. Great video guys 👍 I've shortened my G430 hybrid exactly for the reasons you mentioned, I really like it but have a consistent right miss (a small block) with it – that I don't have with other clubs. I'm wondering if it's because the G430 is quite flat (the TSR2 is more upright). There's no option on the adapter to make it more upright, can a hybrid be bent?

  12. This test sums up why I’m really going to miss you two. It does (in a small way) validate my set up after 3 wood. 19 degree 7 wood @ 5 wood length into 19 degree 3 hybrid into 21 degree 3 iron. Wind conditions shot shape and lie dictate which club I take. It’s rarely the right one.

  13. Another quality video, thanks guys for the insight as always.

Unrelated but there's been something I've wondered for a while now – if a golfer tends to get along with a shaft that has, say, a stiffer mid and tip section but they're only in an R flex due to swing speed, could they reasonably see equally good results with a shaft that has a softer profile in the mid and tip but is an S (or perhaps even X) flex? I guess what I'm curious about is whether the effects of profile and flex could be mutually replicable if you went extreme enough in either variable. Thought this might make for a cool test.

  14. What would a graphite shaft on the 2i affect in this comparison? Speed from additional length and less weight?

  15. I have a 18 hybrid and 18 UW. The UW is perfect between a hybrid and a wood. For anyone who struggles with 3,5 wood I would highly recommend you try a UW

  16. Wouldn't the AoA change dramatically if you change your ball position at setup more so than the length of the shaft?
