  1. Garmin is nailling it. Is an apple like business model that just gets you at some point. Ive been using garmin approach watches for the last 7 seven years, Ive tried to use apple watch ultra and Tag Heurer but somehow I always come back to Garmin, its just better in every single feature. I also got the Garmin R10 and I just love it. So, when you are into the garmin ecosystem, paying a $100 USD suscription that you’re gonna use in all your devices is nothing.

  2. The things I like:
    1. The built in computer
    2. The large display
    3. The cheap subscription
    4. No weird balls

But the price is a bit much.

  3. To me, get rid of that hunking built in monitor and make it the size of a buschnell or gc 3 and make an iPad mount in place of their monitor or you can put an iPad on a tripod at eye level. Keep the UI the same but in iPad app format and processsing still on the r50. Then you can keep the price down to $3,500

  4. Like a lot of LMs it will be better after one maybe two software updates after initial product launch.

The R50 is definitely the LM which spent rather too much time at the "all you can eat" buffet!

    Things I love:

    – no subscription fees for the basic club and ball data
    – options for temperature and humidity, I love the idea of finding out what a cold day does to my carry distances.
    – no need for a PC unless you want to play GSPro or E6 Apex or similar. HTH2 is still a bit cartoonish but very playable.
    – Garmin subscription is very reasonably priced
    – Software is very customisable
    – speed of response

    Things I think need improved

    – ideally I would like to see a 4K version. 1080p is good but it could be better.
    – does not provide descent angle data
    – not convinced that the club data is as accurate as it should be – but that is very common issue for new LM
    – HTH2 should include course total yardages with each course description
    – price

None of the negatives are major other than the price. This is a great device, there could be some interesting integration with other Garmin devices such as their GPS watches, rangefinders etc

  5. I’m really confused all monitors have a subscription which is more than this? You keep saying hefty like it costs more than GC3, MLM2PRO, etc. 9:53 some other monitors don’t work at all without a subscription. You don’t need to pay the subscription if all you want is all the ball and club data.

  6. 11:29 dude GSPRO and others are their own companies. Idk what you’re expecting that Garmin would get you an eternal license for awesome golf, gspro, and E6.

You’re talking like a lot of this stuff isn’t the same as every other monitor on the market.

  7. I really like watching these reviews to follow the technology. I can't afford it, but still like to know what is going on out there.😊

  8. Nothing is different with GSPRO. It only runs on higher level PC period doesn't matter which LM. Another downer the hdmi resolution is the same as the screen 800 x 1280 pixels not very good.

  9. This will be a good buy – assuming it's accurate – in a year or so for $3-3.5k. Not being able to run GsPro out of the box is very disappointing.

  10. If you’re in the position in life where you can afford a $5000 launch monitor, you are most likely not worried about a $10 a month subscription. God do I wish I can get one of these for Chase and myself for when it gets to 100° plus Fahrenheit with 95% humidity. Here in Thailand.

  11. Here is the thing about Home Tee Hero – it is the same app that one could use with the R10, and people complained that the graphics were too much like a cartoon. So is the graphics on that app better, or is it just because on a larger screen it looks more acceptable?

For those of us on the R10, the subscription price isn't that big a deal. And since it is monthly, you can turn it on for the months that you are playing indoors and then turn it off again when the weather gets nice again.

  12. there's no issue.. most golfers who are already using GS Pro already have a pc or if they are running awesome golf.. they will already have an iPad.
