Why I golf.

    My grandfather Robert Aloysius Stanford, WWI vet and scratch golfer. I was just a kid when he died, and my first set included his 1930’s Tom Dodson pear woods. After not golfing for 30 years I’ve picked it up again (with slightly newer clubs.) I’m not religious, or even spiritual, but I’d like to think he’d approve of me now at least trying to be a scratch golfer like he was.

    EDIT: This may well be Brown Deer public course in Milwaukee.

    I can tell he’s a scratch golfer just by this pose. Eyes fixed on the ball, hips turned, knee bent, shoulders pointed just past the ball, club shaft over his right bicep.
