IndyStar insiders Joel A. Erickson and Nate Atkins take a deep dive into the brilliance of the Detroit Lions, an offense that appears to be a bad matchup for the Indianapolis defense and how Anthony Richardson might be able to take advantage.
As a lions fan I feel very confident… I do worry about AR potentially going off for a huge game, but even if that happens, how is the Colts run defense? Honest question 🙋♂️
Life long Lions fan!! 3 of those games starters didn't play in the fourth quarter Dallas, Tennessee, and Jacksonville. Imagine what the numbers would be if they played those quarters… Grit City-One Pride
Detroit's offense is elite everywhere. Their oline gets a ton of credit and it should but there's been games like vs Minnesota when Goff was pressured on half his drop backs yet still tore their D up.
Hey Nate…….miss you in Detroit. Really enjoyed your content.
Detroit is just a juggernaut right now. Everything is humming…….offense, defense, special teams. I think AR will need a Herculean effort to stay in this game.
Dude on the left seems a little too comfortable. Lol. It's super fun talking to someone who isn't coming off as engaged.
With that said, Lions fans here. I think the Colts will be a tough matchup for the Lions. The Lions should win, but they are dealing with a ton of injuries like you said. Anzalone (captain and green dot linebacker), Hutchinson (obviously was heading for DPOY), Barnes, and more. Nonetheless, this is the NFL. Gotta be ready to go. Lions tend to struggle with mobile QBs, so we'll see. I say Lions 34 – Colts 24 if they play like they have been shown to be able to play.
The difference in Detroit isn't the flash, it's the toughness. They beat teams up. They're very physical. That o -line is the engine that makes this team run.
Joel I was right there with you on the Goff/Stafford trade. Brad Holmes was with the Rams when they drafted Goff and saw him develop there. Folks forgot they went to a Super Bowl when GURLEY was healthy. So Holmes built a running game around him keeping Ragnow & Decker, bringing in Sewell, Montgomery, Gibbs and the best blocking WR corp in the league. It’s the same model. Dan Campbell brought in Aaron Glenn as DC and a Saints prime based defense built around the secondary. Together it has become the juggernaut we see today. This is how you beat the two deep shell with offense and the short passing game on D.
Dude on the left spent more time petting his dog, picking his nose, and playing on his phone. Do your job, man. I'm sure there are more interesting people that would kill to be covering the NFL.
***Good job, Nate. Very informed, easy to listen to.
It is very hard to run on the lions. Although with anzalone out, you might have to try it. The way to beat them is to protect your quarterback. The secondary can cover and lock down for a long time. You’ll be surprised. But there have been moment of generating no pressure at all since hutch left. The secondary has still been holding. Your receivers just gotta fight to get open and hope that Richardson can extend plays and find them. 10-20 yard chunk plays. Hate to say it but if you don’t do that it will be a blowout. Unless Goff has one of his funky games. Usually 3-4 of those a year.
It is odd listening to people out of market talking about superstars. Lions defense has maintained the standard without Hutchinson. I guess that is life in the media. Time is short to relay a lot of information, and the Lions are a challenge because they don't look like other teams.
Detroit has never been about stars in any sport. That's why Jared Goff is a hero in Michigan. He's not famous, he's not considered a hero, or flashy. He just wins. Throw for 4 TDs or no TDs. Winning is all that matters.
Should be a good game. I really hope the Lions put up a 40 burger, and that the offense has more TDs than incompletions.

Nate is such a loser and speaking about the lions defense completely in a different reality

The guy on the left could not be more disinterested

Detroit defense is excellent down the middle.

Lions defense is top 5 in ppg allowed and leads the league in opponent qbr rating allowed.
Carlton Davis has been lights out this year. Shutting wr1’s down 1 on 1.

Hey guys, those defensive backs already love to hit hard, don't leave Richardson out to be targeted! QB run plays behind a lineman off tackle?
Away game doesn't matter, Lions fans travel and they roll deep. Don't be surprised when its louder in Lucas Oil when the Colts have the ball.

38 – 10 mark my words I’m about to make a grand on it
Weird podcast. Never seen anybody rock their computer chair and look around the room while talking to someone especially on video. 🤣🤡
Even when Goff has a career worst day, they still win. That’s not a game plan.
Excellent show. Small point on Goff: He was the number 1 pick in the 2016 draft, Brad Holmes choice. Thanks for insights!
