In episode IX of our Bandon Dunes series, we play Trails in a freak lightning storm at Bandon. My caddie assured me they don’t have lightning at Bandon… until they do. A very rare storm surrounds us while playing, leading to more excitement than just the golf.
Bandon Trails is the only course not on the ocean. Hidden in the forest of coastal Oregon with tall trees, elevation, and gorgeous views. Many people tell me its their favorite track at Bandon.
Between spectacular views, great holes, and perfect conditions… this round was hard to beat.
I’m playing well and have a chance to set a course record for me on this round.

Although #11 is a beauty of a hole, it almost appears to belong to a different type of golf resort. Also, with the amount of bailout available to the left off the tee, the risk/reward quality is a bit diminished. Perhaps the best looking of some great holes at Trails. Good hole, great course.
“But you gotta do what’s safe”…after playing 4 straight holes with visible lightning around them 😅😅😅
