Robert MacIntyre: Scottish Open is PGA Tour event I wanted to win | Golf Central | Golf Channel

closing 67 for your second PGA Tour victory in a little over a month now you have not been shy talking about what it would mean to win this National Championship what are your emotions right now it’s unbelievable I don’t know what whether to cry or laugh to be honest with you I’m just trying to enjoy it I mean I’m here in the national anthem going off in the background right now and it’s this is the one I wanted this is the one I got and it’s just we’re going to celebrate we thought we celebrated hard in Canada me my dad and Shannon but but I think tonight it’s going to be going to be wild now I want to go back to the 16th hole can you talk us through the drop and then how you played the hole the rest of the way yeah obviously look every time I seemed to miss a fairway I felt like I was getting bad breaks I was in I was in the thickest of stuff um I looked at it went oh well this is just a hack out and I took two steps back or well a step back to take a practice swing and I’ve got metal studs on the front three only three metal studs on my foot and I just heard clunk clunk when I kind of shimmy and I couldn’t believe it I was like because the grass was over the top of it until my toe went in on top wasn’t until I noticed the sprinkling and sure enough when I I got over the ball the spr I was on my heel was on it but they’re soft spikes so I wasn’t feeling it um Mark came over and it was it was just it was just a gift to me it was something that it was meant to happen last year it got it got taken from me and this year I got I got a gift and I’m just I can’t believe it happened fast forward to 18 you’ve dreamed about making that putt on the 72nd Hall a lot of times what was it like in reality you know I was my hands were really calm I knew I knew the job I had in hand um downhill double breaker had double Breakers all day so I just had to trust myself and trust my feet and in my eyes once I got down behind it and I just kept saying to myself this is what you dreamed of was a kid this is the one you wanted and just do it and I mean it was just I thought it was short but it wasn’t you mentioned the celebration after the Canadian open Victory it was a bit legendary from what I’ve heard what is this one going to be like this is going to be a control I think this one’s going to be this one’s going to be really special I couldn’t again I said it this is one golf tournament I wanted in my in my golf career and I’m 27 I thought I after the Boogie and 10 I thought well we’re going to have to keep chasing this one and I’ll keep coming back to this and chasing for another one but I got it it is a short list of players who have won the Scottish open while being from Scotland col Montgomery 1999 and Robert McIntyre in 2024 and Jim Gallagher you could see the emotion you could hear it in Robert McIntyre’s voice this is something he had been very open about this was the one that he wanted more than anything else and what a performance to get it h it sure was and you remember through the 10th hole he’s threw or four back doesn’t look like he has a chance he wasn’t on my dance car by any means by the way he was playing he only hit 50% of his Fairways but you know I thought when his dad was on the bag at the Canadian open and he won there that was special and you mentioned and he said this is the one he wanted the most and he finished second last year went on to win in wam did the same thing back in 1990 it just doesn’t happen very often at this event when you come in there and you finish second and come back to win the next year but it’s such an impressive finish and just the way he he handled himself he was he’s kind of stayed in the moment he mentioned there I don’t get many bad or don’t me to get very many good breaks I get a lot of bad breaks today but the biggest break he got was on the par five we’ll take a look at this this is where he’s taking the practice swing right here and look how thick this is this shot’s just going to be one where he’s just going to going to have to go out but here he’s walking and he feels it he mentioned he has the metal spikes he felt felt the sprinkler head talking with the official there I fa the sprinkler head I did not know it was there you don’t see sprinkler heads in Scotland in the rough very often in this case it was he didn’t do anything wrong he didn’t know it was there he gets the free drop now look at this lie compared to the chip out Li he was going to have he’s got this lie here where he’s got a seven iron this from 247 yards it’s a little bit of a jumper he’s just trying to get it up there as close as he can to the green he cannot see it totally blind he’s going to know by this reaction right here how good a shot this was and it’s so so impressive I know he mentioned I don’t get I didn’t get that many good breaks if that’s not the break he’s had in his career that’s the biggest one he has but when you think of a young man here now you’ve got this putt he’s dreamed about making a putt like this to win the Scottish open and he does it and he said he thought he left it a little bit short but that ball is right in the middle of the hole everybody’s excited look at that young man they are so fired up for this guy to get this win at home and there’s nothing better uh and he’s winning his National open now I’ve won close to home and it’s very special to do that to win your National open uh something that only two guys from Scotland has ever done it’s it’s such a special moment second win and he mentioned I learned a lot at Myrtle Beach when I didn’t get it done and they talk about the celebration well the celebration after the Ridder cup is pretty big and special this one might get a little out of hand you’re right

That drop was interesting. A sprinkler head in the rough? Might be a first.
