Hi All, this week I am going from one end of the spectrum to the other and trying out Cobra One Length Irons a week after trying the Taylormade P7MB irons in my last video. I love the theory behind these clubs but can they help a mid handicap golfer shoot better scores. thanks 🙂

so welcome to the video and today we’re trying out the Cobra on length iions made famous by Bryson Des Shambo I secretly really want these to work they look amazing I’ve got to be honest I’ve got the 2020 versions and the hype is kind of died down now so actually you can pick up a bargain with these if you’re interested in this sort of club and straight away on the first hole with our second we get a chance to test out a little 40 yard pitch shot with this extremely long pitching wedge and to be honest this shot felt really nice I made good contact bounced just down to the front of the green and set me up for a nice birdly opportunity I teamed up this evening with another solo golfer so thanks to Rebecca she was a star to play with and put up with me fiddling around with the [Music] camera I’m going to try and stay true to the philosophy of one length irons which means no gripping down the club however much I want to and always playing the ball at the middle of my stance if I’m honest these were an impulse purchase about a year ago I took them out once and I got to say I really struggled to even get the ball off the ground I’m not sure why but I’m hoping uh my ball striking has come on since then and today is going to be different it’s worth saying that I would normally play this shot with a lot more Loft um but today I’m just eager to try and test out the one length clubs at every opportunity so I’m going to see if I can nudge it on with a pitch and wedge and as every great mid handicap golfer does we give back our biry straight away at the next hole with a bogey okay it’s time to be honest at this stage in the round the old ghosts of the one link were already starting to come out and I don’t even know if I’m going to be a to explain to you exactly what it is they just feel really strange for me to hit and I just really struggle to make good contact it’s like everything comes out slightly thin off the face but that said I’m managing to get round so far and the dispersion is not too bad and the distances are kind of where I’d expect them to be so normally I’d be licking my lips now with my little four hybrid on a short path five I’d be expecting to have my putter in my hand for the next shot but with my confidence in the one lengths starting to waver already this one just comes out very kind of pulley a little bit thin but you know it gives me a simple pitch shot into the green just teing it up these pitch shots however are a totally different story I’m actually really enjoying having this longer pitching wedge just to Pop the ball up in the air and let it run down to the green these CS are so in my last video I was trying out the tailor made p7 MB blades and I think these are such a contrast it’s almost like I’m hyper sensitive to the fact that they don’t feel that soft off the face and I’m not enjoying hitting the long irons with a full swing at the moment the t- shot felt like a terrible strike and I was kind of trying to save the swing ended up pulling it left and it didn’t really get up in the air either I was then having a nice discussion with my playing partner about how when you’re a high handicapper it’s critical to avoid hazards like putting it in the trees I then proceeded to thin one straight into the trees right of the green and this is a good lesson for mid- handicap golfers never give advice so another good test for the pitching wedge I’ve got to keep it sort of under a few trees go around the right hand side of another uh in a little bit of a scrubby lie and to be honest again it performed well made nice contact and nearly got it pinned High just on the edge of the green a bit of sloppy putting and we’ve dropped a shot so we now move to one over I can definitely notice now as I’m starting to struggle to really find a good strike with these irons that my Tempo is starting to go and I feel like I’m trying to hit the ball a bit too hard uh to try and make up for the fact that I’m not getting clean strikes on the flip side I’m more confident than ever with this pitch and wedge and I’m about 90 yards out here ium on a sort of three4 Swing good contact and set myself up for a good look at birdie no be a birdie go I think this shot epitomizes is what I’m talking about this comes off really thin in the face I try and exit left really hard to almost save the shot and the pool just never gets up in the air I’m certainly no expert on clubs and Club fitting but the heads of these clubs aren’t that different from the ones I play which is the Cobra Forge Tech X and my suspicion is that it’s the shafts in these clubs that I’m struggling with and if I got for these I’d be interested to know whether I could play about with the shafts and the flexes and see if I could find something that actually worked for me with this set I would say that I’m also a pretty good ball Striker for a mid- handicap golfer and I kind of pride myself on that I’ve always bought the clubs that I just want off the rack cuz I know my specs and I can usually always hit most clubs but these ones I just couldn’t figure them out out and as I recognized the fact in the last hole that I was slashing at it a bit this time I tried to go nice and easy on this swing and unfortunately the ball just fell out the air and it was a almost a half a club short of the green oh well played thank you and so far in my round the best performing clubs doing all the damage is my trusty 3-wood my sandwich and my putter which are not the clubs I’m reviewing and that probably tells the story right there and as I make probably what is the only good strike of the day with this for iron let’s just summarize I was so desperate for these clubs to work I like the quirky aspect of everything being one length I like Bryson to Shambo and I normally like things that are a bit different and I like experimenting with equipment but the thing that I thought I’d find the hardest pitching and chipping with a really long wedge I actually really enjoyed and found that quite easy and the thing that I thought was going to be great about these having a really easy long iron to control with a shter shaft I was actually struggling just to make good contact and get the ball in the air I enjoyed the round and I hit fairly good score but that was probably because of the flat stick and you know what sometimes it just always comes down to that thanks for watching see you in the next video [Music]

  1. Had same issue, bought 4i-7i couple years ago and I play off 13HC and use Mizuno MP-15 irons for last 8 years and one size I could not get off the deck, felt too heavy on impact, never a cotton wool feeling of puring them. novelty idea and curiosity to try them but wasted money in honesty IMO – ok off tee box but different story hitting off the deck strangely

  2. Great video, started playing last june yet to get my handicap as only joined my local club end of summer (usually shoot 90-95 so would say high handicap) i brought a brand new set of LTDx one lengths about a month back for £300 with graphite shafts Bargain! Deffo been a game improvement for me. In terms of struggling more with the "long" irons id say what definitely helped with one lengths is ball position and playing them in a similar way to what i would a standard 7 iron as thats what the shafts are set to on them…was hard to tell on ball position with some of the camera angles but fantastic content keep it up 👍

  3. Spot on analysis, I have a set of 2022 OL. I absolutely love the longer 8-PW. They allow for a very smooth and controlled swing. On the other hand, the shorter 5 & 6, are extremely hard to make consistent contact. As a result most of those shots go low and/or left. Gapping gets tight towards the top of the bag too I'm working it out, and they are getting better. Very odd that the theory and premise around OL irons were that the long irons would be easier to hit and short irons would have less control, yet I have found the complete opposite to be true. For the time being I have a Variable Length 4i on the bag and have been contemplating going variable length 5 & 6 to mesh up with my OL 7-PW.

  4. I had a similar problem when I played my first round with one length, I realized I was about a half ball too far forward in my stance. Once I made the adjustment I have been striping the irons,

  5. Great video, I have just started uploading to my channel after years of watching from the shadows😂 keep up the great content 🍻

  6. One length irons (low lofted especially) play much more upright than standard irons. This will explain the irons going left a bit. You will also swing the 4i harder than the PW because your brain wants the ball to go 4i distance which usually makes the ball go further left.

The benefit of OL is hitting the center of the club face more often which should lead to fewer mishits and improved consistency. Takes a while to get used to playing everything the same. Keep at it for a couple more weeks and don’t switch between your standard length clubs and OL. See if that helps.

  7. As a high handicapper i used these for a few months as i thought they would be good for me but it wasn't the case. I found that the longer irons like the 5 iron i was losing distance and when it came to the wedges, it was hard to keep the shots short and just kept over hitting them. So they didn't work out for me unfortunately. – Gavin

  8. i have a 2022 set *9 handicap and they felt a bit odd at first 4i-6i (rest felt totally fine, i even bought the 56 & 60). Your brain will fight you once you get above a 7 iron (you look like you are standing much too far from the ball like you'd be doing it with an actual 4 iron) and also trying to hit it harder etc.. i feel you, i had a few really rough sessions with them but i did get used to them. I still go back to my standard length here & there (Mizuno JPX tour/forged split set 919). But i dropped a bomb on the fitted set of one-lengths so giving them their chance!

  9. I switched regular clubs for the One length F9 in 2019 and I can say this was the best investment that I have made in golf clubs. My confidence went up 100%. Went from a 20 to a 14 handicap and has been as low as 11.6. Just got the dark speed one lenght sand wedge because the shaft on my F9 was cracked. Love it. It does go a little further but the same nice high shot from 110yds and in. I am getting a new shaft on my F9 as it is now my sw wedge around the green. I hope they are working out for you as well as they are working for me.

  10. I wouldn’t mind a set like this with a quarter inch variation starting with a normal 7 iron length.
