this is by far the most simple putting strategy the pros are using and we are not and I’ll be honest I think it’s one of the major reasons why we three put far too often okay take this for an example right here we hit an iron into a par three like the 11th here at mom Hall we hit it to a good distance well let’s say outside of 40 ft and then we just have the urge and this is what I mean outside of 40 ft this roughly around here and I think it’s safe to say we get in this scenario and we go right I am going to hold this I’m going to go for it and we blast it so far past it leads to three put after three put after three put and I’ll be honest with you that mentality of trying to hold every single put is where we’re going wrong and that’s leading to three putting and leading to your scores going one way up up up so what we really need to think about here with our putting and it’s really basic it’s really simple it has an immediate effect and we start to lower your scores now I’m not saying for one minute we don’t want to hold any of those puts but it’s the strategy around us putting if they go every time absolutely happy days 30 33 36 39 let’s start with around 40 ft or actually to be specific here anytime you have a put outside of that 30t range never try and hold it this is Zone number one of three I want and I need that mentality to be we’re thinking about a bin lid so let’s say a 3T Circle all the way around the hole that’s the only thing you’re bothered about and I’m not even really going to town on the read I’m getting a general idea of is it uphill is it downhill is it left to right or in this case is it a little bit right to left all I’m looking to do is get it inside that bin lid I make several practice strokes just looking at the hole and I’m just St here thinking okay is that enough is it need to be a little more right is it downhill is it uphill is it left to right is it right to left I stand over the pot I’m just trying to get it inside that three foot bin lid to take that pressure off so I can just walk up here take the flag out make that TWP move on to the next hole and not waste shot after shot after shot so Zone one please please make a note of this I use this in Playing Lessons all the time and it might seem defensive but I promise you it’s actually going to lower your scores because you’re not frittering shots away time after time so anything outside 30 ft think of the 3ft bin lid that’s your only goal let’s now work in that zone and I’ll be honest I I call this the danger zone 7 and 1/2 ft to 30 ft okay so we’re working a little bit closer now so let’s just work in that general rule of thumb roughly around I reckon around here and a good reason why I call this a danger zone really think of the US Open this week we’re seeing the creme de La Creme players whole puts all the time from here but we’re only seeing the top percentage of the top percentage so of course they are going to hold those puts but in reality anything from sort of 7 and 1/2 ft to 30 ft a t put isn’t the end of the world it’s really not and we get a little bit over aggressive sometimes now I want to say something here a top putting coach told me and actually to be precise his name was Steven Sweeney Lowry’s putting coach to be precise says a put that is red too high will only miss by 50% of the distance its overall read whereas a put that is missed really low will miss three times lower than its red by now let me give you an example so what I’m saying here at Zone number two 7 and 1/2 to 30 ft we have to get a little bit more in tune with the read we were generally looking at it Zone number one zone number two we’re being like right okay we’re really starting to tune our way in okay let me give you an example of this he says a 30ft put that is over Red by 2 foot so what over rad means is missing on the high side will only miss by one foot high however an under red put by 2T will likely miss 6 foot low of the hole so I see this all the time when I’m coaching my students so many of us under read puts let me hit two puts here watch how far low this one misses okay look at that go keep going on the low side now I’ve hi this at the same Pace but I miss it on the high side look how much closer this actually ends up high side is always slowing it’s always working towards the hole whereas the low side is always taking the slope and we’ll always end up further away so in that zone two I want you to be really bothered about the pace and the line and always bear that in mind think about always almost like I’m not saying over borrow puts but certainly in zone two let’s think about always trying to miss on the high side and I guarantee you’ll keep it stress free and you’ll keep your scores lowering can you see that right can you see the fact that if you miss it low you’re more likely to miss it two times further away and how that leads to three puts and then how that leads to your scores going one way not down but up going in the wrong direction okay this is Zone number three and this is 7 and 1/2 ft and in so on the side of the screen here you’ve got the three zones the first one 30 ft and out the second Zone 7 and 1/2 ft to 30 ft and then inside 7 and 1/2 ft this is where we need to get better this is where we can’t be affording to miss too many of them be more bothered about these less bothered about the rest and the way to hold more of these in my humble opinion is not to stand here and try and RAM it straight in Get It smash against the back of the hole yes you might feel a little more assertive you might see some of the pros hold it that way but the reality is the harder you hit the putt the less likely it is to go in and the smaller your actual window opportunity to hold it whereas if we have that simple mentality of just trying to get the ball to drop in it can drop in from every single edge it can drop in on the left side just the front edge the right side whereas if we’re sort of blasting it it’s got to sort of go right in the middle whereas dead weight will always drop and find the middle of the cup thank you for watching today’s video here on Alex Elite golf this is your home of fre simple golf tips promise you this is the hidden strategy that’s going to lower your scores please tell me you’re going to use it

Thank you for that, it makes sense, and I'll be putting that into practice next game I play.
Thanks Alex, I will try that strategy.
Nicklaus used the philosophy that from 7.5 ft & in, … die it at the hole.
It’s asinine to think someone can put into a 3 foot circle and make a 3 footer and is over a 10 handicap. You should have made a video on how to make a three footer and practice a 3 foot put on the putting green instead of warming up with 10 footers. Saying your logic doesn’t make it easier. Let’s say more stupid things, “100% of puts that don’t get to the hole don’t go in!
3 foot circle has become popular. Jimmy Tropicana calls it the jacuzzi. Geezer Tony, the kiddie pool. All good mental images. And yes, I probably watch too many YouTube golf videos.
Please, make a video about chunking. I don't know why I keep chunking it. My weight is on my left side. I'm trying to hit it front of the ball, I'm not swaying. I don't know what is happening. I need help !!!! I really need better clubs. I have a TopFlite box set. Where I can't even hit the driver. But I have a 7 year old with cancer and I myself is on Dialysis. So with all the medical bills I can't afford any decent clubs !!!
No offense with the video bc I love these educational vids but if you are hitting the greens landing them 40ft from the greens you need to work on your approach game first
This is a great help Alex. Thank you once again.
Another good video. I tend to get nervous on putts I think I should make and either leave it way short or zooming it past the hole. One of the reasons why I'm such a high handicapper. But I know in time I will become more consistent which will lower my scores. Being somewhat new to golfing, there is so much information out there. I like the way you breakdown the skills. Keep the videos coming, thank you.
good stuff. I'm going to keep the missing high being more forgiving than missing low in mind. my local seasonal golf course had gotten their most problematic fairway dry enough to mow, today.
Really important question….Where's that hoodie from😂
Great video about high and low side can't wait to try it.👍🏾
Miss on high side but remember if you miss too high on a steeper sloped green it’s a slippery putt downhill😢
Alex once again great yet simple mind-set which is working very well since Columbus discovered America !!! 😂😂😂
You are getting better and better everytime.
Keep going buddy.
🤲🤲🤲🤲🤲🤲
You make the best explained golf videos on YouTube 👍👍👍👍👍⛳️ They have helped me surprisingly fast ! Thanks a lot 🙏😀👍👋⛳️🏌️
Any long putt I always use the “dustbin lid method” so I will only leave a short putt for my second . I was taught this when I first started playing and it has stuck with me ever since. Also when I get a shorter say 4/6 feet I always aim to finish 2/3 inches past the hole. A putt left short will never go in! It is so infuriating when I see players dribble the ball to the hole and it comes up a couple of inches short. Also as you say a putt on the high side has a chance of falling in but not one on the low side.
Great advice! I love the music at the end…a bit funny but uplifting!
My dad taught me this back in the 1970s when I was first learning to play… but he said, "picture a manhole cover." Same concept.
Absolute BS Alex
Your intention is to always get the ball in the hole in the fewest amount of shots possible
I don't get this thinking of not trying to sink putts
If you are twenty feet away I get the odds are not in your favour but if you are thinking positive and trying to sink it I guarantee your odds will increase more than the guy who is trying to hold on for a two putt and is putting in defensive mode
100% of putts that don't get to the hole will never go in
Not sure I agree, if you start to widen your target mentally, then that margin of error increases as well. Concentrate on a much smaller target and your misses should still end up within 3ft.
I’ll consider myself lucky, I was taught early to go for a 3-4 foot circle and always miss high side.
High side is 🥇
The high low was the most interesting putting tip which have ever heard. Great demo.
Theories are sound, but on fast greens, a lot of times I'd rather have 6 feet uphill left than 2 feet down. I can't remember the last time I played on greens as slow as in this video.
Bob Rotella would disagree about not trying to hole every putt. The most important factor is pace for long putts. The line is secondary to pace, BUT, missing on the high side is way better
I’ve seen this putting tip about missing on the high side being less penal than missing on the low side a while back. Definitely works. Try it on a sloping practice green and you see it right away. My missed putts from distance are at least more makeable. Now I just need a good tip for sinking three or four footers for birdie. Ugh!
Basically you’re talking only to golfers who believe they have to “hit it harder” in order to feel like they’ve given it a chance of going in.
If you marry line with speed roughly and try to hole it with good holing speed (one foot past hole), you’re going to end up within a bin lid anyway.
Sure you may leave some putts short when trying to hit it one foot past but that’s going to happen.
This isn’t new. This has been standard putting advice for decades that a large number of us use routinely.
