this could be the wildest putter that I have ever tried and I’ve tried some wild Putters on this show including the one that’s in my bag right now the lab df3 but this could be even crazier this is the spoiler it was designed by a father and son Duo who set out to make you guessed it a better Putter and their concept was to take a different club alog together in the bag one that most people wouldn’t necessarily think to putt with but the father started putting with a wedge and he liked the rooll that the Leading Edge of a wedge was putting on his putts a lot of times you use a Putter and it kind of skids off the club this one is meant to give you nice Top Spin and prevent that from happening giving you trer putts and hopefully helping you hold more putts so here is a good look at this thing down at a dress now at a dress it doesn’t really look so wild to my eyes at least I think I could get used to that look classic kind of Mallet shape you’ve got this cut out here and you’ve got a nice very thick dark red alignment line but of course it’s when you get into the profile here that things look a lot different as you can see they’ve got a bent neck on this shaft that’s going to promote a little bit of a forward press which I assume is going to be good you’ve got a very thin face I need to measure this but I would say it’s something in the vicinity of about 8 mm all right so you’re going to have to be a lot more mindful with your putting for sure if you look it down at the bottom of this thing most Putters are going to be flat this is not flat at all it is very much a curved heel to this club now getting a little closer up here you’ll see this is actually multimaterial construction they’ve got what’s an aluminum insert here that’s screwed in and that’s all about shifting Mass more towards the perimeter to keep putts online more often that’s the theory at least that’s the theory we’ve always got to put it to the test so I’ve got to admit this is actually the fourth time I’ve taken the spoiler putter out on course the first few times I had mix results and I found that a lot of times I was popping the ball up at impact and that’s not what you want to do the whole goal of this putter is to put a nice Top Spin and over spin on that ball and get a true roll and I wasn’t getting that well I decided to start moving the ball placement normally I play the ball a little forward of Center but I moved it all the way up to just off my left heel and all of a sudden I started to see a little better roll and I confirm this by sending in a video to the guys at spoiler they allow anyone who buys their Putters to do that not just me cuz I’m a crater but anyone who buys a spoiler putter they’ll diagnose your stroke and tell you how to improve it and how to best use it with their product and they said the same thing I needed to move that ball up in my stance once I started doing that boy the results were considerably different I started making a lot more putts and I could see right off the club face I was getting much much better roll than with a traditional putter so I’m out here again to put it to the test we’re going to see how this spoiler performs let’s get to work all right I’m out here on course we’re going to do some medium putts we’re going to do some longer putts and then we’re going to do those shorter knee knockers that you’ve got to make to win let’s start with medium putts first I’m going to pick a putt that’s about 12 13 ft away the reason I like these putts here are because they’re the putts that when you make them you feel really good but you don’t always expect to make them even the PGA Tour guys their percentage from this is about 45% something like that let’s see how we do this should be moving a little right to left again I’m going to move this ball up in my stance so I can promote that upward stroke on the ball and let’s see if we get a nice pure roll I sure did that was good for Speed now I just didn’t expect that putt to break that way I thought it was going to go right to left the way I see it left to right the way you see it and it actually went the other way all right looked a lot better though that in terms of a stroke and I had the right speed there which was nice we going to make that one oh I left it just a little bit short that one did kind of bounce off the club face so again I got to be really mindful about making sure that I’m hitting it further up in my stance than I normally would attempt three here did we make one oh that burned the edge I’m looking back to see if there’s anyone behind me and since we got a little extra time let’s try that one more time definitely getting a better roll off the front of my left foot here that’s going to be different for everybody I hit that a little too hard but that is going to be different for everybody ball placement with this putter is going to depend on how steep you come in your angle of attack with the putter a tricky little putt I got to say burn that edge again well we haven’t made one yet and I would really like to do that see if the six times a charm oh I’ll tell you what I am seeing those the speed is a lot better the roll is a lot better and uh I’ve got little tap-ins here for what we can assume would be par all right let’s try a little longer putt now now this putt definitely is breaking right to left or left to right as you see it my right to left but we got to get the speed right that’s so important to two putt on these long putts it’s more speed than anything boy it’s on a pretty good line and that was decent speed I will say it did kind of Bounce just a tad so again you got to get the contact right with this putter that’s up in my stance a little bit more and yeah I hit that much much better we’ll see if we can make that two putut here in a second that is my best effort there all right we got to see if we can make these now two of them I’d say were really good efforts I’ve got one over here that’s going to be a little bit more difficult might even be off camera yeah it was off camera so there’s where it finished I’m resetting the camera here we’ll start with the hard one again shift it up in my stance yes and I kind of hit that towards the toe and I got to say yeah it didn’t lose any any speed that’s what they claim this putter will do it did just that there’s two and there’s three a little better result there I would say let’s move on to the short putts and for this I’ve actually got some people coming behind me so we are going to switch venues to a different hole that’s the beauty of YouTube sometimes people ask me is it am I the only person on this course no I’m absolutely not the only person on this course I’m often running between holes which is why you sometimes catch me on a breath and uh yeah that’s what we’re going to do right now all right short putts this is what pays the bills and when I’m practicing I like to use this method that I know Phil Mickelson uses and some other pro golfers he may not have invented it but he definitely en uses it basically I like to place balls in a semicircular pattern around the cup to give myself different lines different brakes all that good stuff it’s a really great drill highly recommend because these putts are just so important see if we can do it move that bulp in my stance yeah I like that it came off the club face with some good speed often times I can get a little tentative especially when I’m nervous on putts and that’s when I’m pushing them and pulling them or not even getting into the hole sometimes on these short putts that’s awful really hard to do that with this cuz it really pops off the club face that forward roll definitely is working yeah I’m feeling pretty confident with this distance that one I missed the equator of the ball it’s so important to hit the equator and it did kind of Just Bounce Just a Touch so again I’m going to make sure I’m up in my stance a bit that’s better all right one more here to go six for six yeah so good news there we make all those short putts that’s great and I start to really build some confidence with this thing in terms of those long putts again we two puted everything so that’s good news as well now I didn’t make anything on those mediumsized putts I would have expected with six cracks to make one but you know sometimes you just have a bad putting day too and sometimes you’re at the mercy of these greens which have been punched probably ooh maybe two or three weeks ago so they’re not rolling 100% pure either but I will say on the medium putts I seem to struggle a little bit more with my speed and distance overall I’d say good results again though my fourth time out with this putter now I will say that’s not the only time it took me a little getting used to a putter in fact the putter I’m gaming right now the lab putter the first time I tried a lab it was the MZ and I did not like it I thought it was very gimmicky but I gave it a second shot with the df3 and that one really clicked with me I subsequently tried the Mez again and that one also clicked so sometimes you don’t get something right off the rip and I guess sometimes it takes four times to get it right but I think we did finally get it right here to give this putter a fair test and that’s all I’m trying to do on this channel so final thoughts here on the spoiler putter let’s start with what I like about this Putter and first off I like that they took a chance here with something different all too often golf manufacturers play it safe and it’s cool very cool to see something truly unique come out on the market secondly I think this putter absolutely Mak makes you a more mindful putter you’ve got to concentrate and you’ve got to really think through the stroke at least I’ve had to do that more than I’ve had to do with any other putter that I’ve ever tested it’s not something you can just pick up off the shelf too many people at least I mean maybe there’s some people out there that can do it but I don’t think very many people could just pick it up off the shelf put it into their bag and start rolling putts you’ve got to really spend some time with this thing like I did and make sure that you get the stroke correct and thirdly of course once you get that stroke correct I do think it puts an incredible forward spin onto the ball that’s going to help you hit trer putts more often if you can get the speed right and the alignment right then you can start holding more putts when you get them online correctly in the beginning now getting into some of the drawbacks or the cons of this putter I’d say to some people’s eyes this is going to be just a step too far in terms of weirdness but I think a lot of people can get over the looks like I did in fact looking down at a dress this putter it doesn’t look that bizarre to me so I can get past that point but the point I think that sticks a little bit harder for me is that I actually had to change my putting style for this Putter and I think if you’re not willing to do that if you’re not willing to take the step and maybe even become a better putter but if you’re not really willing to put in the working want something is going to work off the rack maybe this isn’t the putter for you tell me what you think I’d be really interested what do you think of this lead Edge design should they start rolling out more models more variations of this do you think we’ll see it out of the big manufacturers as well what do you think of the price point I’d love to know all that down below in the comments make sure that you’re subscribed you’ve got notifications turned on and I’ll catch you back here next time on another edition of let’s play through

Interesting but seems a little gimmicky
See Teardrop "roll-face" putters. Been around at least 40 years.
Easier and cheaper just to putt with the sand wedge (not kidding), and you can still keep the regular putter in the bag
How is this any different from round face putters of the past? Tear drop roll face came out like 30 years ago?
It reminds me of the original putter my uncle produced in his mildly successful company, Pauli Putters. The original was like a thin horizontal bar with a circular disk on each end. It was like 4 wheel drive for putts in how the ball rolled and tracked. It also was great out of the grass just off the green in that there was less frontal resistance.
Do you lIke the look of it? Is the position comfortable? Is lining up natural? Once you make everything repeatable, and it works for you. Go for it. No matter if it's a Scotty or a piece of pipe welded to a rod
I see this putter brand is making its youtube rounds.
Thanks Gabe, great stuff, the weight loss is so evident, good job brother 👍👍👍😁😁
Looks like a take on the old tear drop putter…of course more up to date…
Brother can you get your hands on a set of the Kirkland irons for me!? lol I have the driver, wedges and putter but I can't find the irons anywhere without paying twice of MSRP on Ebay or something. I'll pay you for it!!!
Its weird reaching the age where you start seeing old things become new again.
Used to be a company in the 90s called Teardrop that made a roll-face putter. Fred Couples had a signature model. It was a nice putter. I really liked it. If I could find a decent one, I would probably buy it today.
I've also seen bargain bin putters that are just straight round tubes on the end of the shaft. This is nothing new. If it's weird, there's a good chance someone thought of it in the 70s or 80s.
Not gonna fix any normal putting issues. Still gotta hit the right line the right speed, and appears to be a little less forgiving than a lot of conventional putters if you make a bad stroke.
Green looks like they were punched. The ball will not roll smooth. The ball will bounce around.
I wonder how this putter does a few yards/feet off the green. My wife ALWAYs pull out her putter off the green. Which I commend her for but sometimes the ball hops on her. I wonder if this give her better consistency. I tend to have a love hate relationship with my putter. They tend to hate me when I am trying to save a par or bogey. lol. Great content!!
I actually have putted with my wedges and did real good with them. No joke! Ervin C.
Looking great Gabe! Let me know if you want to try out the Maltby TE+ Blacks. I’d be happy to send them over to you to continue your exploration of that great brand!
Back in the 80's there was a putter called the Acu-Roll. It had a rounded face so the contact point was just slightly above the equator to avoid hopping putts. These gimmicks have been around for years…….either you can roll the rock or you can't.
Is this USGA or R&A conforming? I can't find anything saying yes or no on this. I'd be afraid to use this in a competition if it isn't. For casual golf this isn't a big deal of course but most people don't want to change putters from one game to another. It is odd but no weirder than some of the other 'game improvement' stuff on the market. I'm sure there was some scoffing when the first Anser came on the market.
As for weird putters, I have one that I had made a few years ago. It is non conforming so I only use it for scrambles or games where the goal is to be as goofy as possible. I'd post a pic of it but this isn't facebook.
There was a “roll face” putter out about 30-35 years ago. I tried it out in a golf store. Meh. 🫤 What’s old is new again
Another thought I had on putters is………ALIGNMENT. Way more important than hopping and skipping. I see so many people buy putters that are popular but maybe not so much suited to their eye. Not sure why but Scotty Cameron Newports have never suited my eye. I have a helluva time starting a putt on the right line with them. Now, I know it's not the putter but there are others that are just automatic for me and in between the ears is a big part of the battle. Heck, if I never had a putt outside of ten feet I probably would use a plain old Bullseye putter. Dead on line every time but the distance control is terrible for me.
Doesn’t help that the greens were aerated recently.
Does anyone remember the ‘Teardrop’ putter from the 90’s? This is really not a new concept …🤔
Great Review– thanks for your effort. Current putter is Ping Anser-2, 2021
The teardrop putter returns.
This putter is super cool! I love seeing people actually try and do something different. Whether it succeeds or not is a different matter, but I love the innovation. I've been super tempted to get this putter.
I always seems to putt better with my sand wedge, maybe I should give it a try.
