If you’re a senior golfer who wants more distance and a more effortless golf swing — without being told to swing like a PGA Tour player — this lesson was made specifically for you.
Most golf swing tips for seniors ask you to do things your body simply can’t do anymore. Maybe your flexibility isn’t what it was. Maybe you’ve got a bad back, a dodgy shoulder, or just the general wear and tear that comes with years of loving this game. Whatever it is, you deserve a golf swing that works with your body — not against it. A pain free golf swing that feels effortless, generates real speed and still lets you enjoy every round.
In this senior golf lesson I’ll show you the helicopter drill — the same drill I gave my student George this week, who came to me wanting to hit driver longer. What I showed him instead surprised him completely. Within one session he had a golf swing that felt more natural, more rhythmical and more powerful than anything he’d felt in years. The same drill works right through the bag — from chipping all the way to your driver.

Danny this is a little late I anticipate a DM video first thing on Saturday morning man I was sad initially. Then all the grand and great grandkids came over for brekkie and to top it off your video popped.
I will definitely try this drill.
I will practice the helicopter motion. It is a great feel. Thanks Danny.
Thank you Danny. I’m going to try this. I just finally broke 100
I will try this. Thanks Danny!
Maybe off subject but I stopped feeling like my shoulders turned and thought about my belly button had the end of the grip pointing at the little lint filled hole. Obviously my shoulders ended up making a great turn. Voila my swing thought of the day.
Don’t see George video link
Hi Danny, this video in tandem with your feet together drill video would put emphasis on preventing the lead shoulder to lunge forward but rather up, to catapult the club. A great balance drill, thank you!
Besides watching your videos to try to better my swing, one key I’ve learned is to use the information to make on course corrections. Knowing why I hit a poor shot (or why I hit a good shot) helps my game. As a senior high handicapper, your videos are fantastic since they are straightforward.
Love the video Danny. Also, love your suggestion of starting with a short iron. There’s absolutely no point in starting this swing sequence with your driver. Baby steps first!
Enjoyed your video Danny – You make it look so easy
When im trying for more ,when things are going straight-ish with good contact, i try to think of it as “snapping the whip” through contact… in my mind its the same as you saying the “helicopter “ feeling , only with more oomph😬.
Hi Danny I'm a senior golfer, I was playing ok until recently. Now I've got a bad dose of the shanks. Could you please do a video on how to cure them
GREAT DANNY, very usefull, from URUGUAY im 81 , 40 in this job jjjj, ciao
I needed this video 😂. Thanks
Dear Danny, this is really illuminating on the swing mechanic. Very brilliant lesson, love it. Many thanks.
I am not a long hitter and can't figure out why – my 13 years old can hit longer than I do… 🤫
Thanks Danny, will practice and shared with my Mrs who is recoving from operation and cannot wait to get back to golf.
This will help me get through to my lead foot and perhaps cure my chicken wing.
One of your better lessons! Through and up, throwing your arms through! Thanks
My wife is a beginner golfer, and like most beginners, she tries to help the ball UP 🏌🏻♀️
resulting in tops, chunks, hitting the ground first … all those newbies swing faults.
I don’t think this (swinging up) will work for her. I know it’s a sequencing/timing thing. But …
Does this suggestion need to be modified for a beginner,
… to encourage a DOWNWARD strike into the ball?
Also, she tends to drop her chin to her chest at setup (down), making it difficult to turn her shoulders (as in the helicopter drill). Again, a beginner move. I remind her to left her head up a bit so she has room to swing.
Good news is she has a good natural shoulder turn 👍🏻 but some wrist restriction causing a lack of hinging (a more straight arm swing).
How about a primer for a beginner? 🤔
I still often hit the ground before the ball even when I do this. I never seem to ground the ball in the correct place
Complicated doesn' t mean reliable! Sorry Danny! Not this time😢
Thanks again Danny for sharing your wisdom with another great video! Greatly appreciated! 🙏
Video starts off with a driver in hand but is 99% wedges. I wish you would've spent some time using this swing with the driver to prove the concept works. I always feel frustrated after a lesson where tell the instructor, "I want to hit my driver straighter" but the instructor says "lets use irons instead" and I never touch driver after paying hundreds. Start me off on the iron/wedge, and then let me see how it translates into the driver. If this was the lesson I paid for, I would not return to this instructor even though the fundamental teaching is correct because it's not what I wanted. I want a driver swing off the tee that works for an older guy with some limited mobility impairments to not have the flexibility of Tommy Fleetwood, but not enough to be playing from a wheelchair either.
This helicopter motion naturally takes care of your leg action, which is nice. Also, not a bad putting motion. ❤
Danny: Once again, you really hit a ‘home run’ with your TIPS. This helicopter analysis really simplifies the golf swing and makes it easily transferable to my game. I’ve tried your suggestions and immediately eliminated some other swing flaws without even thinking about them. Now, I only hope this 76 year old body can shoot a 76 and not my normal 86. 😊 Much appreciated, Don
Thanks!
Danny… change sleep mode to a longer time frame on trackman.
I tried to work this drill but still topping the ball, what could that mean?
I wish I could find a golf coach like this man where I am. I am 54 and fit…BUT….I was born with a massive AVM in my right leg/thigh/foot, I have a knee replacement in that leg and less than normal range of motion in both the knee and ankle of that right leg as a right hand golfer. I have taken lessons from 3 different people and not one of them was able to teach anything different than the "usual". Not many golf coaches can think outside the box and find ways around limitations.
Serious question – how does coaching with you work virtually?
Do people feel like they're hitting a front hand shot or a backhand shot in tennis, when applied to their golf swing?
Thanks Danny ! I' like to watch the lessons you mentioned at the end but the links did not appear on your screen. Thanks.
Funnily Danny just watched your old video with Pete cowen and the irons…been out tonight and boom..taking a decent divot..I’m 60 in August and I think I can still bomb a drive off 8 hcap dead but starting to feel stiff if I’m honest 😳😳😳will watch this cheers buddy
Great drill and explanation of why it works. Thanks Danny, you are a terrific instructor and teacher !
Why don’t you top it when you come thru and your left shoulder goes up 👍dave
My god– head facing downward is key for me– Thank you so much Mr. Maude!!
Another great vid. This us so true Danny, when warming up for my weekend round I never swing using the driver but always a wedge as it instils a smooth tempo and hopefully that feeling transfers to the rest of your bag.
Not long back from the range watching this over and over, it works when done correctly! Thanks Danny
