hey one of the most common things I hear from golfers coming new to me they had other teachers that couldn’t even get them to do this and you might really struggle with this too and that is how to get more rotation into your golf swing it it’s more than just intention as it turns out otherwise you would have fixed it by now so there must be some little key piece of the puzzle that must you must be missing and why you’re not automatically rotating enough to get all those great benefits that come with it right after this I’m going to show you that key piece of the puzzle that you’re missing why you keep trying to rotate trying to rotate and you’re just not getting there you’re going to fix that I promise right after this stay tuned hey this is Steve with hit it longer. I’m on a journey to hit the ball longer and straighter from T to Green than ever before if you are I hope you give a like And subscribe all right so we’re going to use a stick in a chair to illustrate the move that you are missing that is preventing you from getting all the rotation that you’re after in your golf swing why is your stall keep turning no matter how much you’re trying to turn it never seems to turn you’re hitting it you’re blocking it you’re chunking it hitting it thin all these you know no compression no forward lean all the these things that come with not rotating probably familiar with a lot of them I want to show you and don’t panic I’m going to show you this same motion from the down the line angle in a second we’re going to repeat this I’m using the chair for my rump and I’m going to use the stick as a rotation indicator so let’s say right here I’m at 0° of net positive rotation this is essentially a drad and so a lot of you look at yourself on video and you look like you’re just right back at a dress again in terms of rotation so I’m going to make the average pivot here that I see people making who have no rotation and that is a shift of the weight to a right center field vector or out to right field just like this now this is going to be much more revealing from down the line but you’ve got to see from this angle that this move Nets me about 1 hour of rotation so I’ve gone from about 12:00 from my perspective to 11:00 you can see it’s about 30° of rotation but when you can move and this it becomes a ground up ankle knee hip chest response that you’re missing you’re just missing this motion Watch What Happens now and I’m not going to try to rotate any further than I did just whatever comes naturally here I am going to as I make a little lateral slide move down this chair I’m going to lift the chair here about an inch off the ground and I’m going to draw my left knee into extension like this now Watch What Happens here again this is about the same effort to rotate as I was doing on the first one but all of a sudden now I’m 2 hours I’m at 10:00 now I’ve rotated an extra 30° here without even having the intent to rotate it’s just kind of baked into the cake because of what I did by getting my left hip to clear properly and pull that thigh out of the way as well that really allows that the hips and the chest to turn around the corner double of what I showed you in the first example so that’s 30 extra degrees it’s gonna be a hell of a lot more Club head speed better low Point location better lag better forward lean better smash Factor better distance so many good things are going to come when you learn how to rotate more all right now let’s look at that same two motions from down the line be able to see a little bit better what I’m doing with the hips the pelvis the knee knees the ankles it’s kind of a combination movement here now see here’s my just my normal good posture 30° you’re trying to come back into the ball here’s my 0 degree net rotation I’m at it so I’m coming back and I’d be coming right back to zero again here but we know that we need to be well past the0 degree Mark we can’t return to a dress position at impact with our rotation that’s just simply not enough to get a good hit so here comes the first example I showed you I’m going to take my weight and I’m simply going to shift it on a vector into right field right of second base and that would look something like this there’s my 1 hour of rotation about 30° to 11:00 but now look at the position I’m in this is probably what you look like too all of a sudden I’ve gotten very tall I’ve lost my 30° I’m closer to 10 if I’m lucky now so I’ve got this big gap now that I’ve moved away from the chair and what some people will call Early extension that’s referring to the hip joint going into extension losing all its flexion now this is also really closing me off preventing me from rotating freely What would happen and this is why you cannot rotate no matter how hard you try if I try to rotate from this position I’m going to fall over my balance is this point it’s too precarious and there’s no rotation actually built into the motion you’re not going to force it around and try to you’re Lo you’re missing 30° obviously but you’re not going to find it just by trying to force it around so much easier If instead you employ this hip knee action instead I’m going to slide down the wall yes lift the chair off the ground and straighten my left knee and look how much further I’m rotating around the corner quite comfortable here and now boy I can really throw that club around on its proper plane as well instead of you can see what would happen here the shaft is going to get very tall it impact it’s going to be stuck you’re going to have to learn how to hit inside out a lot and flip the toe over a lot of army golf being played this way as well as no lowo control so super key movement here this is the missing piece why you’re unable to rotate you will start rotating instantly 30 more degrees or double when you start making this move look at this my back is almost to you I look like Travino tons of rotation David Duval I’m able to get double the rotation without even trying and that’s really going to allow for me to get all kinds of great benefits more rotation is maybe the number one weakness of most golfers out there whose handicaps stall so learning how to do this motion is going to have massive benefit to you down the road so I highly encourage you practice lifting the chair straightening this knee stepping into the outside of the heel and that move is going to make you a much better golfer and once you demonstrate it for yourself with a stick like that and practice pit shots first doing this short just like that practice some swings you’ll see how much more rotation you’re getting and how that’s going to allow you to get on plane get the low point in front add Club head speed everything will come when you can Master this key little move it’s not nearly as complicated as you might have thought it’s not such a mystery anymore hopefully try my stick and chair exercise and see if you
