wearing a lot of black shirts and you just assume that he’s got about 50 CL now then got so you just going to cover up for somebody yeah yeah yeah I’m assuming hate on him he got like three black shirts and he keep them in rotation well actually it don’t matter the Richer the Richer I get the broker I dress because it don’t matter that don’t make sense exactly it’s not true either yes it is it ain’t true have I changed no you ain’t changed you ain’t wear backwards though I love it you ain’t wear backwards remember when Floyd told Dana White Dana White me and you have money we don’t have to wear suits they don’t you don’t remember that I was in the leadup to the Mayweather MC SP suits the the website is is is it’ll be up tomorrow hopefully I thought somebody supposed to get fired fire somebody your word I stepped on it I stepped on it I stepped on it I couldn’t I couldn’t hey stepped on it but I couldn’t been doing business for a while running a company once you fire one person it’s easier it get easy oh yeah you guys got for you as a boss yeah yeah you just got to get through the first person got to get through the first one and don’t let him start crying your little little heart break you you ain’t never seen nobody cry you broke you no no no no I mean uh teared up ain’t my problem bro you got to do your do your job go do your job God to do your job let’s get to some boxing real quick uh we we we had a couple things going on this weekend uh I know we got uh we got a great guest for you guys I told you last week we’re GNA start rolling in some of these Olympians you already know I’m a big advocate for the Olympic team the the Olympic um um uh the Olympic uh committee want to say um the Olympic level the fighters that come from the Olympic level I’ve been saying for forever they they usually make the uh the best um uh boxers in the in the Pro ranks um and uh it’s not too often that you don’t see that uh more often you see Olympians move on and become the best uh boxers in the world as as Pros so U I’m excited about who we got we got um marel McCain she’s a Olympian uh qualified from Cleveland Ohio uh that makes e if I’m not mistaken that makes seven quads straight with an Olympian from Cleveland representing the Olympic team so um I think that’s seven straight yeah I could be wrong six or seven straight she’s kind of like one of the Heart and souls of the team too right like when we went out to Colorado I think that was a year ago everyone l two years years that was a minute ago it may have been two years but they remember everyone one after the other told us how she was the funniest person on the team and so yeah be awesome um so we gonna keep rolling them out but for this week we got Mel McCain coming in then right after that we’ll have uh Mark Nelson I told you guys I felt like he did a terrific job um refereeing uh Tyson Fury and Alexander usk I called him on the phone we had a conversation and I said how you doing and he said I just got back to town and I just got back off of Cloud n so it really struck me I you you never know how important these fights are to the referees and the officials but this one was really important to to Mark hopefully he’ll he’ll be able to uh articulate exactly why but I found that kind of intriguing to know that he that he was like you know that excited about being a part of a fight of that magnitude of course but you know um seems like there’s something else about it that made it really special so hopefully he he’s got something for you know I was doing my uh research on Mark Nels you know how Floyd Mayweather basically his ref is Kenny B yes this guy got two guys that’s he refs for and they use him all time I’m wait till he comes home I’m like this is why why did you ref 10 of their fights yeah each yeah it’s how many what did keny B do Floyd like last 30 I feel like he didn’t know the majority of the latter half of his career the money it was either him or Tony Weeks it was always it Tony week yeah Tony Weeks was in the ring here and there too but you know better than than we I mean I’d have to like you know I just recall like in the Money Mayweather era it was primarily Kenny Bay hey hey are they are they tricked us in a in frog I don’t want to get that wrong what’s his brother name okay are they tricked us and was kit sometimes brother yeah yeah I know he’s got it look just the damn light yeah yeah it’s crazy super identical as a young reporter having to to kiss up I’d always be like you’re you’re the handsome twin then now can I get the interview yeah each of one just you kiss up to everybody early in the game it’s just what you hey you got to do what you got to do to get to the top baby Johnson T he called me handsome he called me handsome oh the kid an interview so that’s how that goes what they do look alike they look just the damn like they’re twins but some twins look even more twiny than other twins yeah yeah they be Twi and Twi yeah 202 listen we we’ve been floating around here for minute just waiting on McCain to get on she’ll get on all right here she is um let’s welcome to the porterway podcast uh first timer right here first time won’t be the last for sure welcome to the porterway podcast uh 2024 Olympian from Cleveland Ohio morel McCain come on mo hi hi thanks for having me guys how you doing I’m good how are you I’m good you uh you qualified at the first Olympic qualif which was the pan americ games right correct and and what did you win the games or did you just qualify um I played second okay did you have you fought the woman before that you that you lost to to for the for the championship no okay first time seeing her yeah okay kind of took you by surprise in a little bit huh um not really I was kind of like fighting through injuries during that whole like ordeal so we you know how us athletes are like we just got done we we coming to the podcast with excuses huh oh no definitely not no I told L I said make sure Morel is is really ready to let us know exactly who she is and what she’s done so tell tell the the the the the podcast where you been and what you’ve been doing I I I know you’ve been on the scene for a minute but but tell everybody you know what you’ve done as a as a now Olympian but as as an amateur boxer um as an amateur boxer I started like um actually in 2013 I didn’t do my first Nationals until 2019 with USA boxing and that was my first one um that was the East the Eastern qualifiers Western qualifiers and um yeah I ended up winning and ended up um being invited to camp for the first first time which took me by surprise um but I was fortunate enough to I didn’t make the team the first time but I was a part of the travel team which allowed me to get some International experience so um I was able to compete in uh my first International Tournament in um Sophia Bulgaria and I ended up placing third and that just motivated me even more um after that I did more Nationals four time Golden Gloves National Champion um get to it come on get to it Mo what you doing I did a little bit I did a little bit okay yeah what else what else what else um we did a European tour last year um I placed first in one of those and then I came in second the other one questionable but whatever nevertheless um and then we get to the P Pan-American games uh I ended up placing top two um securing my ticket for Paris and listen I don’t like being number two so okay we going for gold in in in the Olympics okay uh so who’s responsible for putting these gloves on this woman who who who who started you who who did you beat up in school when they said you need to go to the gym cause that’s I feel like every box will start like that no no I didn’t start like that that’s the crazy part um my niece she was actually uh boxing before me she was she really didn’t want to like fight like she’s such a girly girl and I’m like little rough around the edges but um she was like I wanna I don’t want to go to practice but I was just like I’m gonna go to practice with you and she didn’t come back to practice but I stayed at practice okay I just I kind of fell into it by accident and it started off as a workout and then my coach kind of tricked me into like competing and like n we just gonna go over there and Spar you know how we practice and whole time this is the whole like fight show and I’m just like wait why do I gotta weigh in if we practicing I never I’ve never like seen like boxing up close like that so when I saw it I was like wow this is crazy they got little kids doing this and so many like when I first started so many people like yeah I started when I was eight I was like oh my God I’m 18 am I late go ahead uh Morel you know I remember back when me and Shawn went down to Colorado to talk with you and the whole team really they everyone just kept mentioning your name as like their favorite person on the team as the funniest person on theam team and why do you think like how much do you think that adds to the team morale why do you think they’re so fond of you and how do you well and talk about like that jua position of your craft is whipping people’s ass but your got you got such a you know nice personality outside the ring I don’t know why they say that I don’t be want to be bother honey okay but but no um I just feel like you know we away from our homes we away from our family so you kind of create a family Dynamic within the team and it’s just like yeah y’all get on my nerves but I love y’all and I want y’all to win and I just me like I grew up in I have I’m number seven out of eight so I’ve dealt with so many different personalities like Jesus Christ so many different personalities and I don’t I don’t a lot of people AR W used to that so it’s like especially like when you coming from your environment and you coming from like just what you know like I just try to be that person and be like uhuh girl welcome because that’s how I want people to do me Mo did you you you haven’t won the World Championships no we went in 20 you know um USA boxing was going through a lot of like political stuff so we wasn’t able to like compete in too many worlds yeah I got you I got you um but what is it about your style I know we got a a highlight that will show as well but what is it about your style that that that makes you so successful when you fight against these other International Fighters um me I like to like just make adjustments as I go um I like to think fast in there like I’m aggressive I can I can do some boxing I like to have fun in there and I think that’s what like throws them off a lot because they like is she serious I’m like I’m super serious but you do a lot of like toning and things like that too don’t you you do yeah yeah you do a lot of little you know what we call being you get jazzy in there I try a little bit I be watching y’all you know I’ll be watching a little bit of the greates and picking and choosing and adding you know while you beating these girls what you be saying to them what you be saying what I be saying I be like what do I say I really don’t say too much I mean like before I get in there I just be like I hope they Grandma not watching because I hate to beat up somebody grandbaby a nothing wrong with that you know what that’s the problem with boxing man I never boxed before but y’all need to wear like a bracelet or something look like you see this woman out you think oh man you want to get crazy with her at a brunch she might sleep your whole clan of friends like that’s illegal he said we need to wear something to let everybody to let people know like stay away from me no I listen do you if and when people find out that you’re a boxer they just be like yeah they got so many stories they want to see they want to see some moves I was Golden Gloves in 1978 I’m like oh God thank you let see your jab that was the worst listen Mo um you uh when we came out there and we spoke to you move your mic pack you’re getting a bunch of feedback again s do somebody your mic Pack’s messing up it’s messing up again y better right now yeah it’s better for the time being all right I’ll leave it where it is uh uh when we came out there and spoke to you you you also talked about turning professional I I usually I don’t like talking about this because I want y’all to completely be focused on that gold medal and that Olympic experience however you really spelled out exactly what your plan is upon turn and pro so I really want want to kind of expose that as well what is the the mo idea of being a professional fighter uh probably when you turn more than likely right after the Olympic games um the idea is to of course get those big fight but more so like just bring my own flavor to it and just not like be put in a box as far as just like onedimensional or you know I’m willing to fight any and everybody I don’t listen line them up and I’mma knock them down that’s just that on that but more so I want to be able to just map my career out in the the best way possible um and that’s just starting with just starting with creating my team from the beginning and making sure like the foundation is there so y’all listen I’m excited cuz I’m I’m you you done grew up a little bit cuz when we talked she said she said I want to make money I was like well what about it she said no I want to make money she said I know I’m gonna make a lot of money I mean that’s that’s what y’all in it for at the end of the day that’s what it’s about yeah for sure for sure like I want to make money and and good memories hey SE shaa made the Millions already she trying to get the mil yes yes you did yes you did you want me to tell her where you at get out my business okay Mo uh what weight what we qualify at what’ you say um 66 kg 146 pound this is America don’t you ever do that again I’m like what she talking about no that’s that’s exactly why I said both okay but that’s how they’re trained they’re like this Olympic team got something coming tell tell everybody about the Olympic team real quick what we we got back don’t we yes I’m so excited like oh my God like I I don’t really be that nervous for myself but when I see my teammates like I want them to win so bad move your head but nevertheless we got some like we got some some great some great athletes like it’s it’s amazing I’ve never seen like so many people like in such a a a high caliber like the the expectations oh my listen I don’t want to tell y’all too much cuz I want y’all to watch okay yeah yeah it’s we and we all going to be watching we all going to be trying to find where the boxing is going on at let me let me ask you about one of the guys on the men’s team I like and don’t get me wrong I like a lot of guys on the men’s team Jamar thally Josh Edwards uh I think Raheem Gonzalez is going to win a gold medal but I gotta be honest Mo probably my favorite Prospect and it’s it’s a stack team is Jamal Harvey you calling him a prospect already yeah you know most of them are going to turn and be a prospect in the pros but Jamal Harvey what could you tell me about my guy Jamal Harvey Mo I got high hopes for him in this Olympic Games for sure I got high hopes for him and you know he be giving me a little bit of work so I know I know I know he com in full force and I definitely know he’s gonna take the medal and that that energy around you and just having that winning energy around you is just inevitable for you not to be great so I just did she freeze we good yeah yeah um she’s Frozen we should just kick her off no we go yeah but no um Jamal Harvey to your part I think he won a gold medal at the panm this year did he win a gold at the panm yeah yeah a gold at the pan he didn’t win a gold at the a silver at the World Championships no he got gold at Worlds gold at Worlds I mean yeah so we got some heat coming Mo and appreciate you for joining the yeah no no go ahead hey Mo you just froze up next time do not go outside and do it on the line she laying down on the grass that’s that’s no said she lay down she got a picnic we got a picnic set up lay on the lawn oh you okay all right it’s all love it’s all love try to do my w it’s okay she’s going to make the adjustment on you next time hey I want no problems I want no problems listen Mo be blessed stay healthy and we’ll be tracking you guys along the way may even have all of you guys come back on right before the games or something like that but until we talk to you man thank you for joining the pway podcast and and good luck out there thank you for having me talk to USA Mo USA all for sure I appreciate y’all we got um right now that’s good energy right there we got six more Olympians that need to qualified they are in Thailand right now uh about to they’ll start fighting this coming week and they’ll be the rest of them will be qualifying for the Olympic games um Jamal tally uh uh uh Harvey Harvey excuse me Harvey for y’all Jump Ahead Jamar T she has a star personality that’s something you can do a lot with with that with that girl that girl is a star in the making yeah uh long as everything goes right speaking into existent future world champion I’ve been telling you guys about AB champions.com that that website okay that website is up and you you can go over there see the interview that we were talking about uh with Mo you can see that interview you see much more of the the personality and things of that nature that she’s got 100% a star she talked about some of those things so go over there and watch that over there at AB champions.com um next coming on now we got Mark Nelson uh let me wrap real quick on the Olympic team so we going to I’m going to try to bring somebody on each and every week leading up to the Olympic Games the games happen at the end of July and uh so we got a little road ahead of us I also want to bring on the uh head coach of the Olympic team most people don’t know we got a Irish man Bill Bill Walsh over here not the coach of football as as the as the head coach of the Olympic uh of the Olympic team excuse me and when we get there to him I can’t I can’t wait for him to express why the Olympians have been so successful why USA has been so so successful since he’s got over here to uh to help coach the Olympic t uh 2020 was that his first Olympic I can’t recall I think I think 16 might have been actually I think it might have been 16 I think 16 might have been his first but uh now we got a very yeah yeah you’re right y now we got a I’m excited about Mark uh referee Mark Nelson coming on to the porterway podcast as you saw he refered um Tyson Fury and Alexander usyk the other week and I thought he did a terrific job and uh he’s he’s also going to share some of his uh experiences with us as well so w welcome to the portway podcast referee uh Minnesota’s z uh referee Mark Nelson how you doing sir good Sean how are you guys thank you right how you doing Mark how you doing good where you at right now I can’t I can’t see anybody but I can see myself okay that’s just fine that’s the most important part hopefully it all works out uh where you at right now y that’s your home I’m assuming yeah my little I got a little boxing gym where I work out down here and uh kind of where I do my I got a picture framing Studio out of my house so that I do all my work right here I’m fully retired I just referee and I have I do picture framing so life is good beautiful listen how often are you working out not as much as I should i h hit the heavy bag when I when I have time but I we got you know uh knock off a combo real quick mark come on show us something no I’m taking Genie to uh uh the Michael Jackson show at the arfm in Minneapolis tonight so I don’t want to get all sweaty well the reason why I asked that question though and and we’ll get we’ll get this going but you know a lot of times you you you never really know what you’re getting from a referee or from a judge on fight night um and and I hate this to fast forward get right to it but um the fight with Tyson Fury Alexander usyk these men are you know they’re up there Alexander 64 63 64 and then we know Tyson fy’s right right around that 69ine area and you you know right about their belly buttons but it takes someone who’s who’s who’s well conditioned to be able to referee a fight like you did so um I’m just I’m I’m happy to hear that you as a referee in this this game that is so remarkable yet complex you have the ability to to do everything that you need to do to make sure that when you get called upon to referee a fight like that you’re ready to to be there all night with these guys as you were yeah exactly and I do the best I can to stay in shape you know I don’t want to you know you’re right it’s an important job refereeing professional boxing we got to stay on top of our game we got to be focused we got to be physically fit and ready to go and um I’ve had assignments in Europe where I I was assigned to a a 12 12 round World bantamweight title for the main event and when I got there they asked me to work a a 12 round European heavyweight Eliminator and that went 12 rounds so I did back-to-back fights that night 24 rounds and I felt great and and I was glad that I stayed in well well to shape so you never know what they’re going to throw at you yeah and and knowing that you’re from from uh Minneapolis Minnesota your dad so you grew up watching your dad box and then you also watched your dad referee as well he’s is he a Hall of Fame referee a Minnesota Hall of Fame referee he’s in the Minnesota Boxing Hall of Fame in fact I I had the H privilege to be um inducted um in about four four or five years ago but my my dad fought in the 50s um so I never saw him box I just grew up kind of carrying his bag when I was a little boy going to wa watch him referee the amateurs in fact dad fought in the National Golden Gloves 56 57 and 59 the night uh Ali or Cash’s Clay did it’s kind of neat he saved all in program so nice just being in a boxing family it was something I wanted to do and my dad never really pushed me into officiating it’s just something I I like watching what he was doing so I I started judging in 80 um I think 86 and then in ‘ 89 they needed help with the amateur program and I talked to my dad and he said if you want a referee and try it you know go ahead and then I it just went from there I was licensed in 90 uh 0 1992 is with a professional license in Minnesota and in 94 I had my first um ibf fight in Bari Italy and I’ve been loving it ever since and several times I would work the same shows with my dad like we’ve both been asside of the same fight in Germany and like World title fights where he was judging and I was refereeing so to have a mentor like that you know when you’re living with your dad and you’re both referees was a very beneficial uh exp learning experience it’s almost like you’re it’s it’s very room little room for error for you because of everything that you’ve done and as long as you’ve been doing it I mean you’ve really cultivated a lifestyle and a life of refereeing fights and you know being a part of boxing the way that you have yeah and I was I boxed I mean in the amateurs I had one amateur fight and I got beat you know I was only 16 but being around the sport um you know most my whole life and I have four other siblings and they they like boxing but they never got involved it but it was just something I wanted to do with my dad and to have a it was it’s a great relationship you know we’d go to conventions together and room together and go to the all the training seminars but you know my dad he didn’t have anyone to learn from like I did like I do I had him but he depended on the the seminars with Mills Lane and Richard steel and so did I and back when Davey Pearl was officiating in Vegas so he really um he he had to kind of do it the harder way to learn from uh other referees outside of State yeah what’s up ant this weekend we got UFC 302 yep we got makv versus porier oh man porier is a legend yes mcregor three times beat him twice uh khabib lost to him Anthony Pettis he’s a legend in the game but then his opponent yeah is 2024 he hasn’t lost since 2015 by knockout which uh some say he just got caught one loss in his in his career but to Po’s defense he is a knockout artist in some respects okay listen 300 was a bang 301’s a bang 302 is guaranteed to be a bang as always we teamed over with DraftKings and we got a this segment right here is sponsored by DraftKings and we got UFC number 302 man they’ve been around a while in the 300s Dustin porier uh versus Islam marev yes uh I’m excited for this one man yeah this is uh legend in the sport and I would say Islam up and coming Legend he getting to the point I mean 25 and one it’s hard for you not to call your Legend I’m hearing we got we got like what’s a like a former monster that’s still that’s still monster still right there and then we got and then we got a monster you know what I mean like I’m legitimately excited for this match up yeah Dustin you know Dustin fart all the greats man been up in there with khab been up in there with McGregor uh seen them all 3 and8 is his record so he’s been around a long time got Islam 25-1 he got clipped but just a knockout yeah uh that man’s on a roll right now Sean the knocked out uh victories after victories after victories and to put himself to be he’s one of the guys at uh at the sport he’s the world champion Dustin’s getting a shot at him you going to give uh you know you know you had a career a couple losses but no matter who you got in there with would gave everything you got it’s like yeah it’s like I I I I really want to I want to hear what these what these OD are like because for makev like I can I can relate to being the upand cominging monster and and and having to take on the the former monster who everybody thinks is still a monster I’m about to prove to you he ain’t that guy no more and then you know me I’m always about the underdog so I’m really if anything I really want to tough one for Dustin to be honest man to is is this the this the last leg for this is a tough fight but all it takes is one yeah one one one choke one punch listen and he right back in it we got Islan Mev trying to kick the doorian on Dustin porier and we also got DraftKings what we want you to do is download the DraftKings Sportsbook app and our promo code tpw P have fun watching 302 and remember the crown is yours and for our our us professional couch referees what what what explain us what happened in the Nath ran what what that moment what was that moment just explain what you seen cuz you’re the professional we’re the couch potato just it was just it was a great round of course for Youk but it was a a high you know boxing every fight can be a high stress environment it was a good competitive fight and uh up till the ninth round even in the ninth round uh Fury was he got hit a few times us missed a couple times I think he was uh overwhelmed so he was running bouncing the top ropes and then when the last punch um happened over in the corner um that’s when Fury slump down into the into the back of the mat and the basically when a if a Fighter’s knocked down um if anything other than the soles of the feet touch the ground or if they’re helpless on the ropes and what that kind of means is not bouncing off the top ropes because the ropes are there to keep everyone from falling out Fighters get H all hit all the time and they they get staggered and bounc off the ropes but it’s in two mainly two bottom ropes if you’re in distress and you hit those that’s when the referee’s discretion we can rule it a knockdown it’s not a standing a count we rule it a knockdown but when they get knocked down and they hit the floor that’s a mandatory a count so then they have to pick themselves up and and take the count yeah I noticed you you had mentioned that to me when we spoke I I didn’t see that fight I didn’t rewatch that part of the fight again but you said he actually did touch that bottom rope and that’s what made you step in to your discretion and say you know what that’s ruled and knock down let me let me bring and yeah I think his knee I think his knee hit but his back hit the padding and it was R to knockdown and it was expressly understood in the dressing room to both Fighters that um anyone tonight will be consider down if anything other than the soles of their feet touch the canvas from a legal Punch or if if you’re helpless on the ropes and they’re preventing you from falling from a legal punch that’s a down position do not hit your opponent when he’s down es especially if they get knocked down and they’re down on the canvas I explained to both of them do not hit them no matter what so you know that whole ninth round happened so fast I mean the momentum was gone it was a good fight up to you know it was a competitive fight and then when when I was moving in and and fury kind of slumped down and hit his back and he kind of went in that position I I almost felt that um us to kind of pull back a little because he he didn’t want to hit a guy in a down position either but nevertheless um I ruled it a knockdown that’s that’s what it was I started the mandatory a account and the timekeeper over there was they they um they announced a count on a microphone so they’re really loud and that kind of screws the referee up because they’re going one two and I’m like trying to count but that’s that’s how that that timekeeper what was handling that Mark I uh you know Mark I imagine you probably don’t visit social media too much but in all these big fights you know not just Fury usyk there’s always so much talk about are the judges are the referee are they favoring the aside Fighter the bigger economic draw the star however you want to put it and you know like Sean I thought you handled the the fury usyk for what it’s worth the knockdown perfectly cuz there was a lot of gray are until he finally did slump into that corner and then at that point it was you know clearly a knockdown but what could you say from you know your experiences to kind of just dispel that stuff for boxing fans that there’s this sentiment and thought that yeah the aside guy is going to get more breaks from the referee he’s gonna get more breaks from the judges and all of that I think sometimes it just looks that way but I’ve T I’ve told uh officials in seminars that have instructed and other people and I told both fighters in the dress room I don’t care who wins tonight I said I what I do care about is you I’m here for the welfare and the safety of you and your families that’s my role and you know I I’m refereeing for my career I don’t care who wins a fight I’m I’m hoping to do a job a good job and be successful where they they appreciate my work but you know it doesn’t matter what we make as a decision and officials half the people are going to be happy with us the people aren’t going to be happy with us now let’s say the fury usk fight let’s say Fury or um not names let say that a different fight same scenario the fighter is just losing every round and in the third round he’s taken I mean Sean damaging punishment like hard hard punches and he’s and they’re not winning like you know 30 seconds of any round and then every single round they’re just taking damaging punches and the rest kind of you know boy I hope wish he would go down or something and then he hits the camp the ropes like Fury did instantly that would be over but you know referee has to you know we train hard we want to do exactly what’s right we want the right fighter to win that’s the ultimate goal that the right fighter wins the match and you know things can happen just like that in a a world championship fight like that so you just got to be careful go by what your training is and you know it could be a developing referee that that if he work that fight he might have got scared or something and stopped it right away but I don’t know I don’t know I felt like that’s how I felt watching it and even my wife she said why did he step in and count shouldn’t he have waved it off I said listen if he had waved it off we still got a great fight happening right now we wouldn’t be watching this if he had waved it off I feel like a lot of referees in that same position would have just jumped in and waved off the fight you have to be able to think very fast understand considered this is a close fight understand and considered nobody’s really had the upper hand until this moment right here and the best thing I can do is let this play itself out and you found a moment right there that I think a lot of referees would not have found and ultimately I think fight fans the boxing World won that night including yourself mark because you know there’s a lot of gray area in this in this Sport and it’s because of the way the sport is built and even to the to the point of last week I explained listen this is what Mark Nelson did this is what the ruling is but most people that watch Boxing don’t know the rules they think that they know the rules until something happens that they’re not used to seeing and then they’re in the gray you know so I said you know what let me have Mark Nelson come on and of course congratulate him for doing such a terrific job on fight night but also allow him to explain the ruling in that in that situation because it was a unique fight that was was a unique circumstance and it took a unique individual like yourself to handle it oh it was it was definitely a privilege to get the phone call that I would be doing that and and um I’m still a little numb from the whole scenario I mean not scenario but the whole assignment and I was truly truly a privilege of of doing a world heavyweight especially a unification fight it’s I tell people it was the greatest night of my life it really was Mark is is it that you’re partly because you know just look at the memorabilia behind you you you grasp as well as anybody the significance of the fact that you ref the first and so far only Undisputed heavyweight championship fight in the four belt era right so you you are you’ve kind of cemented yourself in boxing history yeah and and I didn’t ask for it it just you know I I sat back and thought about it like on on the flight home and the only thing going through my mind was um all years of refereeing the amateur fights you know a couple thousand amateur fights I work I’m still Chief referee of our Upper Midwest Golden Glove you know last month they they needed some help I went and I refed um I ref 14 amateur fights down at the gym or uh one of the schools for USA boxing I enjoy it you know I don’t ask for anything I just like to be there and be part of the boxing if they need help I go help but uh flying home I was just thinking all the you know the hard work you do put in hard work try to learn try to train always try to do what’s right and um and then uh getting that assignment was just it was I was very proud of that Mark Mark’s living a dream man you you actually when you retire you actually doing what you want you’re getting paid to doing doing what you love he’s actually I never heard nobody say they enjoyed I’m I’m still on the high like he’s really going through something and that’s that’s what life is all about man really enjoying life right and it’s uh my iing another Genie she’s um she loves boxing so she was she was happy really happy for me too so she had her own little she had her sisters over here watching it my brother had my mom and dad at his house my other brother wanted to uh watch it and um so everyone was they were excited for me you know and but you know I treat every fight with the I treat every fight with the respect all the same you know because if if I go in to work a four round fight I’m going to treat that fight with the respect is a world championship fight now we’re a fourr round fighter we’re going to protect a fighter a little more because he’s some of these guys don’t even have health care you don’t want to be be careful but I don’t I think if you don’t treat every fight with the respect as every fight you’re you’re doing the sport of disservice so I I always try and respect the boxers no matter where they come from who they are respect people for their differences and just and just have fun with it and just be be good to people Tom Brady just said uh he just did one where he said he treated all the preseason games like it’s the Super Bowl so that by the time he arrives at the Super Bowl it’s just another game so that reminds me of Mark right now so I guess that’s just how the best at what they do how they process things yeah right yeah a friend of mine’s a retired um American League umpire and he he’s it was the same way you know he did he was behind the plate for like three World Series game game seven games and he said the same thing I started right down in the playgrounds uh Little League or t-ball that’s where I developed that’s where I started and then all that hard work that he had um he worked his way up the ladder and all sports officiate officiating is that way they start at the bottom and they they worked their they work their way out Mr Nelson before you leave I’m going to ask you you know protecting the fighters and you know you say you do your thing so uh April 20 22nd 2017 why you didn’t tell Shawn Porter and Andre Berto to watch their heads I don’t know why we say that cuz they gota they can’t watch their heads we have to watch their heads that that was uh that was another one of my memorable nights and what I had in there were two Billy Goats literally I I didn’t want to say that I just cuz you on Sean show doesn’t mean we can’t say I know I was going to say that and and I remember that night because they were both cut I sent Sean to one carner neutral carer to look at that that doctor I sent Andre to another newal corner and I when I got home and watched the fight the the announcer said Mark Mark Nelson or the doctors are making house calls oh man oh man you remember that night Sean yeah I remember okay but Sean it was you know yeah it’s always good to see you in your career I’ve always respected you so much thank you and I I keep my distance from Fighters and that you’re not fighting anymore so it’s a privilege to be here today and my brother Kurt he um two years ago he ran the 5K at the hall of fame and I think you guys finished right about at the same time so my brother Kurt was very proud to uh have met you and he’ll be at the hall of fame with me again this year as well he he was running a little bit faster than I expected well I don’t know he he’s ran about 14 or 15 marathons too so listen one more thing before you go um an interesting statistic that you said your brother called and told you about Fight Night with Alexander usyk and Tyson Fury I just wanted you to kind of uh Express that statistic because I feel like it’s really important for anybody else out here who may be watching this whether you’re a fan that watches boxing I know Aunt my co-host right here he pays more attention to the referees now than ever because he’s heard me watch fights and comment on referees and things of that nature so you know I know that there’s going to be people who are going to watch this and learn some things I really want them to learn this statistic right here you said your brother called you and told you uh something uh after the fight um I can’t remember I can’t remember about about phone was blowing up no no no about how many times you were you were in between these guys oh he he called and he and he said Mark you only broke them 12 times in the whole fight and he wrote it down it was like the first time was in the third round and another thing when I went into the dressing room to talk to these Fighters I I told Fury especially because he was so tall I said you realize they picked the shortest referee in the world just so you would look bigger and they they kind of had a chuckle but um what I asked him to do was when I say stop stop punching and separate yourself and I I admit it I said there’s probably no way in the world I’m going to be able to separate you guys if you won’t let go I can’t I won’t be able to do it get me through it when I say step back so every time I went in to physically separate them I said stop they moved apart my hand motion was there I was in position to enforce it and and and that’s what they did but like my brother Kurt said you you only broke them 12 times in the whole fight and he wrote down how many times in each round or each round I broke them so that was kind of neat fantastic fantastic we saw that many clinches in the first minute of a Tyson fight back in the day yeah guys so yeah yeah so anyway congratulations sir happy for the the the great fight that you were a part of and and the extra rounds that you gave us excellent thank you guys I appreciate you having me Mr nelsie you take care yeah all right enjoy your day day thank you thank you Mark okay bye bye that right there is one of my favorite referees has has always been for a long time um and I told him this so I’m not afraid to say it now but um I didn’t know the referee was going to be on Fight Night and when I saw Mark in the ring I I said they got a great I tweeted they got a great ref in the ring and I held back on what I really wanted to say was they got the shortest ref that they they got the they got a great ref but he’s short how tall is Mark Mark’s like my height so he’s short but um he he he handled it he did a great job and I hope you guys enjoyed that interview right there and um I know that again like he said 50 50% of them appreciate the other 50 don’t I know it’s about 50% of y’all out there that didn’t agree with him stepping in ruling that and knock down all those kinds of things so hopefully now you get an understanding that there’s a little bit more to the processes of refereeing a fight and what’s what’s legal what’s not legal and things of that nature and and that’s what I really want to do as the portway podcast educate everybody out there he even provided some language that I hadn’t officially heard in terms of if anything other than the bottom of the souls of your feet is second and third row as opposed to the top row and had a referee explain common sense but yeah exactly cuz I had referee explain it to me I’m like all right man you kind of reaching he said if any if if you think about it like this if the souls of your feet or like this what does that mean like was that before your fight no stop oh yeah like you’re in the back room like yeah I’m like I’m that right now no just just in passing talking to ref about Roy Jones and Prince Nasim fight because they did they all kinds of tap the heal the souls would be all over the place yeah so you know but yeah it’s been explaining to me multiple time so hopefully you guys got that and and and um you know I just want to do the best I can by you know really explaining sometimes what needs what I feel needs to be explained you know well Tim uh Tim Bradley’s telling me he’s like you need he’s like and I think a lot of the guys that do the media you do you need to come to these seminars that happen in California throughout the country every year every other year and um you know the reporters yeah he said you know basically everyone who really make Cuts their teeth in this sport this business should take the time to go to one of these seminars you you’ve been telling me that for years too so agree let’s move on real quick I want to recap uh Taylor and Taylor recap Taylor and catall I feel like it wasn’t a exact mimic of the first fight but it was a really close fight much closer than the first I didn’t think so you didn’t think it was close I didn’t think it was close I I had 84 I4 I had 84 but I still thought it was I see where you come from too I was like I was I agree with you I had it 93 93 yet well you off I would have been okay with this box I would have been I would have been I would I wouldn’t have been that mad I wouldn’t I’m just being honest it’s not like I’m like I like Josh Taylor there’s I said this yesterday too there’s only there’s been less than 10 men that have ever been Undisputed champion in the four Bel era so like massive respect to Josh Taylor M cuz as soon as things start to go sou with Fighters like we just not we but people Society they just dog pile and it’s like he’s already accomplished something great that you can never take from him so it’s not like I’m dog piling oh he Lo he only won one round he only won two or three rounds but like I was really scoring the fight um as I’m watching it and doing my little round by round and um three seven n and 10 were the four rounds I thought you could maybe score for Taylor but I thought even out of those four rounds that they were very competitive and could have went to Jack Catal agre and we can’t get caught up seven n nine and 10 and we can’t get caught up in comparison rounds just because catall in some of the rounds is clearly winning the round and then in other rounds that’s very competitive doesn’t mean Taylor’s actually win tning round very true true so I kind of thought it was that kind of fight yeah um I mean just the Josh’s he he he looked like a old 33 and it’s odd because it’s not like he he’s been in some tough fights baranek Regis pror Ramirez the two catall fights too but it’s not like he’s taken a whole lot of punishment thought the same thing he’s only had 21 professional fights but he feels like an old 33 and one thing that um you know has has been a bit of an issue for him is he’s all he’s a tall 140 but he’s never had a great jab yeah he’s a guy he’s a tough Scotsman he likes to get into M to close range and fight he wants to dog you out and put combinations together and in those combinations he could throw a nice straight left P but for the most part he’s not a rangy onew long range guy despite what his frame looks like yep yep yep and so catall always had this straight left hand that gave him problems but this time Catal mixed in more and in the second half of the fight when Taylor got where he wanted to get to real estate wise Catal gave as good as he got and still jabbed him all 12 rounds so yeah and it’s crazy cuz if you think you look back just a year ago Sean year ago to date he’s still what pound for pound wow but one fight one two losses now he’s a old 33 y old and not just I feel the same way I’m like what happened to the guy that we thought we was going to see going into the uh to fight yeah it’s like Tio took so much from him or was that just where he was going I I I I slightly disagree with with calling him a a old 33 okay cuz I’m watching the fight I don’t think he’s a old 33 his timing is a little off um but it ain’t crazy off it’s just a little off you know what I mean um and then heit it seemed like he’s like he’s a little gunshy31 his weight he can’t keep sucking down a 140 yeah that’s I truly do believe that if he goes up to 147 and there’s a a nourished 147 pound fighter he’s got the height for it we can see that he’s got strength for the weight class I’m not saying he’s going to become a world champion at 147 but getting down to 140 [ __ ] just ain’t clicking the same and that weight things might just start clicking the way it’s supposed to at 147 so I I was analyzing that I’m like he’s not it’s not that fight that fight didn’t take it out of him I think I think Tim’s on it I think Tim is saying it right I think that he’s sucking it out of himself by going to that weight class is he a is he a tweener though kind of like I mean that’s clearly a tweener right where he’s too big for 140 but not but not I don’t know at 14 at 147 are those guys going to be too naturally strong for him and you know kind of like it’s an Antiquated notion in basketball but before there were these tweeners he’s he’s too he’s too tall to play small forward but he’s not big enough to play power forward and that right right yeah he’s a tweener and I think um the other thing that’s that doesn’t work to his favor the fact that he is tall and long but likes to get up on guys yeah there’s there’s no secret to to his Madness and you’ll get found out and you’ll get he’ll might might even get clipped at 147 cuz you know that that power chain from 135 140 there’s just this weird power change at 147 yeah he was really durable but last night he was there for the what the left hook it was like this overhand left I’m like my man yeah like that’s just I just see those were the things I’m talking about like you you see it but you’re not reacting your reaction time is off but you 21 fights it don’t something don’t make sense so what I look at is it’s got to be the weight if you ain’t been in a whole bunch of Wars too got the best of them but but ta beat him down Master Class yeah the fight reges that was back and forth they was going Toe to Toe but he didn’t it didn’t seem like he suffered damage in that fight you know so 21 fights not no true damage that we can see that I can see we can see what do you look at I personally just look at the weight get out of 140 and I I give gotta give credit to Jack catall too absolutely because absolutely Styles make fights and unlike reg’s PR Jose Ramirez baranek he wasn’t gonna stay there and and willingly exchange and do all he’s a counter puncher Southpaw gives half his body yeah you know those guys always looked really irritating to deal with but and yeah so he just he took ad he he his some of a lot of his strengths worked to Josh’s weaknesses and he’s not fighting Josh at his Peak anymore in both fights you know even though he was the Undisputed Champion coming into the first fight just clear to me that he isn’t operating on the same level he was during his run to become Undisputed at 140 you know and even with that felt like Josh might have been sleeping on him in the first fight y he was came ready to fight in the second one but you got a fighter that’s ready to really win this one because of the way the first one ended you know what I mean so it was a good fight though either one of these guys get a shot at a title I’m not crazy about catero either I know I know I know that’s I thought I mean what I think he could be awas fight he’s up there in the rankings I think top I think he’s up there he’s up no I think he’s up for Tio which to I mean too is just more of a athletic force of nature than Jack Catal and a much better puncher but you got another counter puncher in front exactly you got another color in front sandor Martin gave him tons of issues with that I’m thinking I’m thinking uh I guy Bill Haney gonna grab one of these guys for a comeback fight I think no I think um don’t they serious no I think like de right now and and I guess we’ll get to the B sample stuff later but Deon may be on his way to actually getting his o back right but he he and I think inevitably you got to do the rematch with Ryan you got to do the Miguel Cotto because I’m never go we never gonna forget to beaten yes I’m never gonna forget that beating even and and Cotto but when people’s because I know a lot of people jumped out and they’re like you know Devon needs to you know be like Miguel Cotto and get get it back in blood in the ring I agree but Cotto took four years before that rematch came again and in those four years stabilized himself regained his confidence regained his Mojo and sandor Martin and Jack catall are the perfect two opponents for Devon to do just that yeah because they’re going to test his skills at a high level yeah but Devin can take some punches to say okay I got hit and I’m okay I can still do this and it’s not against a dangerous puncher like Matias or Cruz or too or or Ryan right away in a rematch so I think those guys you still have to be on your and q’s cuz they got world class skills but they’re not hard-hitting punchers so you can test your chin back out get your legs back underneath you hey quick question what happened to that Miguel Cotto fight did he get an L or so no he he loost I mean it never never change nothing well he didn’t get caught margarito did until the Shane Mosley fight and so you can’t you can’t retroactively prove because you got caught in this fight that you did in that fight but Cotto famously sat down at the table with him and said why first time I’ve seen iPad right right I don’t know and then and yeah so so yeah um but you know Catal would is a tough style match up for Tio I think you got to favor Tio because he’s Tio yeah yeah but it but he’s struggled with this style yeah so yeah yeah and then to the beat sample since we there uh I really are you surprised I mean no you know yeah of of course that’s why I picked that fight so wrong still on that still on that so yeah I me worry is I’m kidding half way my biggest worry is I think I don’t know if that’s a bill and him feeli but if you rematch him and he’s clean and he still hit you with the hook yeah yeah also I worry you know sad I worried that I think I’ve talked to another reporter about this how much did that fight take out of uh Devon Haney that beating that beating goes nowhere that stays on your body yeah so is Devon Haney the same fighter yeah that that that what he went through he went through a beating yeah your body’s never same after that man yeah when you when you analyze like you know we talking about the punishment about um about uh Josh Taylor the the true punishment what what kind of punishment has he been in um and now the fight that comes to my mind maybe because of of of Mark Nelson but the fight that I had with uh with Andre Berto was one of the more physical fights that I’ve been in I was literally exhausted after that fight I I didn’t even want to be in the middle of the Ring get my hand raised this the first time you thought of retirement right first I’m literally on the ropes at the end of the I said I don’t know how many more times I want to do this it’s just how it goes you know what I mean so imagine even though there were a lot of those were headbutts and you know it just was a physical fight but it but it but it stuck with me as the fight was even ending and I knew I I stopped the kid I’m not in the stoppage I’m in how I feel I’m in do I want to do this again and feel this again can’t imagine you know even though it wasn’t a lot of clean shots it was just a couple of of those cleans left hooks that literally floored them was the true physical punishment but what about the mental punishment and the emotional punishment of of this happening a couple of times you know what I mean the crowd going crazy and seeing you on on your butt you like you said like the you can take away the the the the the the loss but we still got this footage it’s still on YouTube and it’s still on in and it’s still on twt it’s like it’s still here you know what I mean so and I think it’s still going to be some healing he need to go through and I think that’s why his dad’s really pushing for that reversal I heard they wanted to win no matter what that may help that kid’s mental a little bit at the at the same time he know it’s like man same time I feel if he fought his fight get off the front foot he beats Ryan yeah in that fight yeah I still feel like he could have win that won that fight a little different because what what Cotto went through that was actual physical damage but Cotto really wasn’t the same after that fight either no he wasn’t but he managed to regain himself and his bearings he took that Pacquiao fight too soon thereafter looked shaky in beating Josh clot then Pacquiao tore through him and it looked like okay this has gotten real off the rails for Cotto yeah then after Pacquiao he did what he needed to do after margarito rebuild himself Pacquiao doesn’t a favor takes a pound of flesh out of margarito yeah and and then once he beat margarito in that rematch yeah he per he was back basic pretty not like he he he probably lost something he never quite got back in that first terms of like speed like if you watch Cotto all the way up until the first margarito fight there’s just something different about his hand speed thereafter yeah that’s also I’m sorry to cut you out that’s also a deadly promotion for Haney rematching Garcia oh it’s going to be especially right away but it’s a deadly promotion for himan because you they talk so much before this fight and I’m gonna beat your ass and I’m gonna retire you and all this kind of stuff what they did say they was gonna kill him the Hanes but what do you say now you just fight justy Ryan got all Ryan got everything Ryan got a got a got a trump for every single Spade you got now yeah but he doesn’t but not where it’s going to matter black and white in all likelihood yeah yeah but do they but do they know how to pull out the black and white of this situation you know what I mean they do but okay well good to your point they do I mean cuz ultimately black and white is black and white that’s facts that’s that’s away from speculation and conversation but but again when you are that and that’s what promotions are we don’t get big promotions like we got in this one but promotions like this it becomes a debate back and forth can you debate the black and white clear enough and quick enough and and strong enough so that this with this this kid bringing bring that’s a whole lot to De it’ll be tough because because Ryan has tapped into something few fighters ever get to tap into and that’s true celebrity yeah and once you tap into celebrity you tap into a whole new group of people that will irrationally irr like they they they’ll believe anything you say they be you once you get into tap into true celebrity you have a little bit of false idol worship going for you and those people will it’s like the Beehive with beond or the swifties with Taylor Swift Ryan’s got the equivalent of that in some of his fan base those people are the loudest most irrational people ever so to your point the black and white won’t even matter to them you you may not win in the court of public opinion you may win with the New York State athletic commission and but you that’s convincing them that’s going to be hard to do cuz yeah and you you trying to see the rematch ASAP uh yeah if I’m uh I want to see an ASAP at the same time I feel like the same thing with the Miguel Cotto if uh Devon can go up in there and get the victory it pulls Devon back up all the doubt he had everything will be like I beat you I beat you fair and square you beat me because of the ster all that it’s now it’s like let’s go let’s continue on with our career uh I don’t understand I mean I could guess you don’t want to do business with the guy it’s like I don’t want I don’t even want to bother with you I’m done with you I his point is I don’t trust a fight with you would ever be on the up and up I think that’s his like the his main point why he wouldn’t do it again also the also thing I I told somebody if laneno had power he would have knocked him out he was hurt against lonar 140 might not be for you but you got Killers There’s real killers up there he’s got to make some technical adjustments for the left hand because whether it’s Orthodox guys like lares and Garcia they find him with the left H whether it’s southpaws like Jojo and LMA they find him with the left hand and so much was made from Floyd from from from Sean from everybody that knows their boxing former Champions about the position of the right hand and the tactics and all that so yeah to your point even if he gets the no contest or or even better for him if he gets a DQ win somehow he still got to shore up all the technical stuff if he’s going to you know Beat Ryan in a rematch and be the fighter he’s always believed he’s going to be you know tank Davis is Ryan Garcia on steroids that power that power I don’t know talking who that power power who wins the rematch ran Garcia Deon I’m not ready that’s tough why who wins the rematch how that’s can we see Devin back first after all that I can’t really say nothing Devon go box his ass don’t don’t try to dog him out box his ass he’s gonna box his ass and win the rematch how do y’all not know that I want I don’t want it cuz cuz I don’t want to look that salty to I want to get listen listen man listen I got to say is at this point as it pertains to Ryan Garcia and and I don’t divulge a lot of the things that ithon Joshua and rematch is that how it goes no uh uh e yeah that’s how he did he boxed him yeah he boxed him to a victory but I don’t want it to be like that though remember Anthony Joshua didn’t step he didn’t that’s how it’s going to be that’s how I that’s how it’s going be yeah also there’s a I mean I don’t believe I don’t think he got that kind of mentality though that’s what he does he’s a he is not a killer I don’t think Deon coming in there he’s a technician coming in there see that’s why you don’t get his ass knocked out again over here don’t listen to this dude a your daddy they don’t get you knocked out I don’t think man I think n Deon ain’t coming in there on some Anthony Joshua I don’t want to step in nothing I’m just gonna move around the ring for 12 rounds against uh uh Ru Andy Ruiz n he G so you g go you no no no no he going to box okay but if he but if he getting off he going to keep getting off he ain’t going to oh no this if what if he throws the left the left he going to be ready for it this time I thought he was ready for it this time n he gonna be ready for it this time I told you I told the story about my fight with with Kell Brook right well you just I like in comparison to this fight the little analogy you know just that timing with that fight I didn’t make any adjustments the whole fight in the rematch I I knew as soon as the fight was over all the adjustments should have made that when those situations happen I I’ve never been in that position so I don’t know if he if he was running a million miles an hour and not able to see these adjustments that he should have made but I’m sure he sees them now has seen them by now and he’ll make those adjustments I’m okay with a 120 boring Victory get out of there no I ain’t ready I don’t want you want that I don’t care this still you got to you got to entertain us listen we we we uh we doing shout out to DraftKings we doing a lot of stuff with the UFC now and guys rematch each other and when they rematch each other is these fights is real fights every single time not I want to be safe and I want to win okay Sean so you know you’re not a science none of us are but but so if it is officially the six nanograms which is 60 times above the allowable limit by New York commission and and barring um you know some conspir I don’t foresee this but barring some conspiracy by Ryan connecting Ki with Vada you know this that’s a good legal uh uh right there it’s a good legal play right there right but barring him on being able to prove something there if this is where we’re at okay he took six uh he had six nanograms of ostarine in the system and and blew the weight you know on purpose but more so the ostarine how much do you think that really affected his performance the fighter he was and the fight number one I think that it it it blew his chances of making weight the way I understand it this ostren and things of that nature they they they prevent you from being able to lose weight I don’t think he he intentionally tried not to make weight I think it wasn’t coming off and I think it ended up being what it was um I’ve also uh understand that this the way that this Chemical Works whatever it strengthens the tendons and I’ve kind of talked about this especially on ProBox the way he throws his hook he throws his hook with a lot of tendon not a lot of muscle not a lot of not a lot of shoulder a lot of whipping that whip that tendon pulls it back so I do think that it’s very possible I’m not a scientist I don’t know all this at all but I do feel like it makes sense for this hook we’ve seen him drop other guys before but once you get to this level it ain’t supposed to be that easy to his to his defense it ain’t supposed to be that easy to get hit with the hook anyway you know and he kept getting hit with it you know so it’s so much cuz we know it’s a special left hook right and special H but I want to know where where is it cuz we know it’s special ostarine no ostarine PD whatever we know special but um against tank it was a little bit of a depleted left hook from being low and weight against Devon it was a little bit of a blown up hook it came in three PBS over and so where so what so how how special is you know how special is the special it’s so much we got to deal with though that fight with tank Davis he was he was nervous yeah that throws off your [ __ ] just a little bit he was nervous he was a little shook up it’s a big moment that alone takes off Haney wasn’t nervous huh Haney wasn’t nervous in this one he was 100% nervous also you you always talk about how that left hand it goes from here yeah the blind spot yeah but but what we saw against tank was just a little bit different you know and it goes beyond the Styles making fights and things of that nature is just that hook wasn’t the same and then it never there he never even got going with with with with tank also you had the weight thing with tank and you got yeah you got the weight thing with tank yeah he I think he was eight pounds more this fight because seven 7.2 more pounds yeah yeah yeah I don’t know close and then you the day of you have to make weight you know I just mean this fight leaves us with so many questions now how much and that can only be answered in a rematch in a rematch right do we all agree he wins a rematch Deon Haney I want to pick Deon I I but but here’s I don’t want to just take everything away have an answer at all and you didn’t you said man I don’t know I’m worried about the hook though I’m worried about that hook can’t man I got to see Devon come back first and see what he looks like and see what Ryan looks like and you know you want an in between fight for both yeah yeah I think Deon needs one I don’t think you put him right back in there with a puncher right away let him gain his bearings you know maybe I would love I think I would love you know sandor Jack had all back to back and then 18 months from now then maybe a rematch of Ryan my dad always said this is why Fighters have managers Fighters think what a Fighter’s mind right and I’m over here thinking like yo go get that back you going to be good take some time eight months you’ll be ready all these other things but a manager would understand like I just need to see it and you need to see it yourself too you know so you’re right it’s it’s probably safe for Deon to take a to take at least Martin is the perfect comeback fight yeah his mandatory yeah s Martin is awkward one more one more thing I was going to let this go but I want to don’t Let It Go are you are you outraged Sean you know like how do you feel about what’s going the fact that you know Ryan is now officially tested positive not outrage right what you mad about though I’m not I’m not trying to make you outrage saying I expected it however I’m not saying I expected it however with everything that was done through the course of that fight I’m not surprised this was part of the course it was like I’m not surprised at this point at this point you can’t be surprised at anything that comes out or or or happens when when Ryan Garcia is involved that’s why left the door open a jar for the for some Vada conspiracy I don’t think it’s coming but a wild anything’s possible with he’s a wild card and that’s a that’s a that’s a fantastic legal play in my personal opinion probably one who pursue and I know we all don’t agree with steroids being taken but I don’t there’s one person that I I’m okay with taking steroids in their fight it’s Mike Tyson versus Dr Paul Tyson hey do your thing Tyson for the greater good I got for the greater good of humanity kind of oh I the shirt I got on for everything yeah I didn’t know this but there’s there’s uh PDS you could take that will increase your stamina oh yeah that that’s that’s allowed no that’s not allow no no no it’s not okay so I can take it right now like be out there I don’t work like that take something and then race again race Mal again I was going to let this go but I want to end on this real quick when Bob arum got in the ring and said what he said man after the the the fight the only reason why I’m not letting it go because I do like I respect that man Bob arum don’t know about his whole past don’t know about everything that he’s done or anything like that but couple of years ago I was traveling I I was out of the country I don’t remember where I was traveling I don’t remember it might have been S no it wasn’t Saudi I don’t remember where I was at but uh I got on the plane and I’m sitting down and then Bob gets on the plane and not only does he get on the plane he takes his small little suitcase and puts it up on the on on the thing I was like impressive I said you he’s still traveling and he’s still moving his own you know all that so my thing now is when he when when he’s involved give him the respect give him the space to do whatever it feels he feels he that’s why you see Eddie and and Jack just sitting back letting them go off and that’s what I saw I was like I can’t let this moment go like I gotta I got to express like it ain’t too many managers promoters that’s going to get in the ring and do something like this you’ll see a fighter and outrage here and there go off but it don’t that don’t even happen too often for them to stand back and let this man do what he did hey hey look at uh Eddie smile Ed was like Eddie was like come on wrap it up Bob come on wrap it up B but what how did you feel when you saw Bob get in the ring I felt like it was like Peak WWF era like 1999 Attitude Era he just grabbed the he went Vince McMahon on everybody I thought it was awesome I I don’t agree I don’t agree with him whatsoever but I thought it was awesome it’s B he just gets to pass once you get older just do your thing Grandma Grandpa all good like remember when Dave Chappelle was like he made Thriller yeah Thriller yeah he made Leonard hears Leonard Hearns right Fraser Fraser that’s a good one right there that’s a good one right there hey we going to get old one day we going be talking crazy they say I already talk crazy he going to loosen up he going to be the loen up he crazy not they going be trying to hold back they going to be trying to hold back off my off my like let me do it I’m on let let me do it I’m old let me do it I couldn’t wait to get here let me do it all our kids doing the podcast I got to go on there they been too nice man do we got a Wilder Jen pick or that too we ran out of cell that’s this weekend oh man I’m going out town this week D we got what did they call it the five on five yeah this is the five on damn I didn’t realize that was this week yeah the five on five okay put yeah speak on it real quick uh go ahead you go first on Jang and um and and um and and and Wilder well it’s a much better style matchup for wilder than Parker because Parker has those quick feet educated feet and Jang is more stationary at 41 years old but I think even though jien is 41 and Wilders I think is about to be 40 or is 40 but I favor Jiang be and it’s a running theme in our show this episode we keep talking about wear and tear the Josh Taylor Devon Haney Ryan Garcia I think I think Wilders passed it and you know I think he’s gotten too much [ __ ] for his lack of tech you know not having the technical expertise people want but at his best a couple years ago one of the best punchers of all time it’s like you know the um like I saw a lot of people scoffing at putting Fury or usyk as a all-time heavyweight and it just feels like cont and this isn’t a oh poor professional athletes thing but I feel like our standards are so much more negative now like Dan Marino today would be a choker but back then everyone knew he’s one of the baddest that ever did it sunny Lon right Sunny Lon was vaunted as one of the most feared heavyweights of the 20th century he only had four title fights and won two of them lost two of them um so I say all that to say like you know Wilder think of him as Ernie Shavers Ron Lyall one of these great punchers and he actually got his hands on a belt you know but there was only one belt when they were fighting so um but I Ernie’s not a a world champion huh no no he fought Ali fought Larry Holmes I believe too but didn’t didn’t win the title but still got respected in the 20th century as a alltime great puncher but I say all that I gotta favor Jen but Wilder’s got a guy who’s going to be a lot more in front of him than Parker was and Parker had to take many rounds before he even felt comfortable enough stepping in on Wilder so but I still got favor Jang man I think I think he’s just got more in the tank and in that fight okay okay I don’t know what’s going on there yeah in this fight yeah just this the uh stationary opponent is always Greatful Wilder yeah with Joe Joy somebody that’s move uh Tyson Fury that’s tough on wild it’s hard for him to find you catch your timing he’s not a natural boxer no Deontay Wilder he C he can’t catch a rhythm with if you throwing him off a porter would kill him all day Tyson Fury it just I feel like Jan Jane will be there to get hit eventually he’s going to get caught the last thing to go as the power yes and I think he catches him Clips him and get the Jared Anderson fight in August ooh I think Jen XI Jen wins this fight I think that uh Jen okay yeahi I think that uh just clearly the better boxer I think he understands the the the the the distance and range phenomenally um I I I hated to see him lose his last fight was a close fight really good fight uh and he ended up losing it um but he still got a lot left some good work done in that fight still got a lot left in the tank all the other on the other side of that you got a Wilder that you know you we can see and we we we I understand why the the hesitancy against um against um what’s that Parker I was like Parker I can understand because he was so mobile um but there was still moments where he could let it go and we saw him doing things like this we saw him doing things like this those are signs that of hesitancy those are signs of unsur you know I’m not sure of myself um I think we see that again on Fight Night yeah um and I think that uh man he’s G he’s got to do what he did against Luis Ortiz if you if you can’t do that against Luis Ortiz which is just simply at some point find it and throw it I think if he doesn’t do that against Jane I think that will solidify the fact that he can’t do that any anymore if he can’t do that anymore he can’t be a successful boxer in in in in this in this era of these guys right here so um I got I got Zan winning Jan I got Jane winning um uh how knockout decision I got Wilder with The Knockout I think it has to end in a knockout so I I’ll take J by stoage stoppage not knockout but stoppage while they ever been stopped against Fury but I think your he I think your pick is live because he is going to be in front of yeah I want him to hit him I I’m going to say this I want to see Deontay Wilder be his best self and to I love Malik I let I want Malle to take your style back a little bit and let Wilder be wilder I talked to Malik about when when uh he was out front the hotel in in Brooklyn and I I asked him it was like you it would almost looked like you’re throw you’re trying to teach him so many things yes that it’s he’s trying to learn and do too much at once and kind of getting away from just the basic jab and eventually find the rightand game that that he had you know so so we’ll see what happens um I got Jane by KN out there it is I said it see what happens I know you I know you all about your picks I hate picking and I don’t never make no predictions but I did it right there so You’ been on it that b should have a a easy time yeah we’ll recap the whole the whole fight night some great fights five on five it’s great great fight after fight but we’ll recap um next week uh but I want to do motivation before we get out of here um when I walked in uh you were saying saying something about having good people around you that that believe in you right yeah and just that the important part about having people around you that believe in you is and people that care about you is sometimes you’re not going to believe in yourself maybe some people people with extreme self-belief they they always believe in themselves but even them they had people who believed in them before they knew what they were and I think the most important part about having people that love you and support you is they believe in you when you don’t believe in you and that’s when you need them the most is those days where you feel like you’re not [ __ ] and they whether it’s your wife or a friend you could call and they just they remind you how much they believe in you and it helps you you know Rebel in you when you don’t have those days going yourself reel in you I just wanted to add something to that speak life in the people man if y’all know I talk to people you know I’m always biging up no matter what you doing I’m like man you the sick as one at the driveth through at McDonald’s man I’m all about speaking life into people man just build people up man no need to take us down we deal with enough keep people around you that believe in you that help you believe in yourself when you don’t and big people up man always extend a blessing to somebody else this is the port away stay blessed

  1. Ryan Cheated his ass off we don’t respect dirty fighters a steroid that helps lose weight while keeping muscle n stamina nah wishing for a 2 yr ban or worse

  2. Talking like ryan really like dat he never was like dat n the biggest fight of his life he do that BS disrespected boxing the fans n his opponent

  3. Awesome show as usual. Giving Olympians their due shine is big time. Same for referees. As someone whose brother is a professional boxing referee (Florida), it's dope to see someone care enough to give them their time. That's awesome fr. Much love!

  4. Buddy…. it was 6 nanograms LEFT! Do you not understand how DOPING works? He flushed his system and thats what was left bruh stop acting simple im sick of this. And i respect you Sean Zittel but cmon bruh.

  5. Getting sick of this so called "green print" especially when the real evil is not being addressed but lets keep ignoring the elephant in the room.
Some people are ignoring the elephant while others are looking on like stop acting like you don't see that elephant

  6. On behalf of Devin, I'm not going to help make Ryan another 20 or 30 million dollar payday. It's ridiculous to do business with him again because you're making him richer, win or lose.

  7. NYCC did not take their own sample…and relied on a 3rd party samples…Not in the rule book to use 3rd party labs…NYCC dropped the ball…and can't use 3rd party results…..PS very possible vada corruption still exist and contaminated A and B the same day….

  8. Didn’t have a problem with Ref Nelson callin it a knockdown, the prob i have is he was in Usyk way so much 😭 MOVE!!!! & Ryan is a cheater smhhh, seems like people hate Dev so they don’t care ..

  9. I truly do not believe Ryan Garcia should fight Devin since he is affiliated with the drug lord of enhances the biggest cheater Victor Conte. Ryan is a good boxer I had no idea he was an influencer so for the long hair guy talking trash about Ryan fans it’s so disrespectful. Now a defamation saying Ryn is takin pets it’s wrong as the amount was 0.00001 of a gram when he will need 30 grams daily for 6to10 weeks. Shame on you guys for trashing an athlete when NYCA has not specify anything yet.

  10. Devin Haney is a cheater. The weight bully got taught a lesson. Fighting at 135 when you walk along at 180 and rehydrate up to 175 on fight night with the help of IVs is cheating as well.

  11. Shawn Porter, would you rematch Bud after it came out that he had Ostarine in his system the night of the fight and you got beat up in the fashion that Devin did? Would Kenny Porter be pushing for a No contest if he knew you got cheated? You of all people being a boxer should know the seriousness of fighting a man that's juicing. U personally know guys who have died in the ring. Supplements are provided to Vada prior to training camp to avoid contamination; so the contamination excuse is a no go.

  12. Even so Garcia come in 3 pounds over. Who weighed more Fight night! Devin still out weighed Garcia! Garcia wins even without Steroids!

  13. @tpwp I love your socks 🧦🧦🧦🧦 game and shoes game Masters please show your SOCKS 🧦 AND SHOES off

  14. Usyk's ex trainer said that once the counting had finished Usyk should have been allowed to go back in and finish Fury but the ref didn't allow him to do that, which meant the ref had two choices, either call the fight off so Fury wouldn't get hurt more or knocked out or allow Usyk to finish the fight which meant Fury would suffer more of a beating and possibly get knocked out.
