speaking of a guy who has more money than he can ever spend Kirk Cousins with his $100 million fully guaranteed never mind the fact that we Ed the eighth overall pick on your replacement enjoy your money Harrison Phillips for the Vikings appearing on NFL Network talking about the departure of kurk cousins it’s going to be a huge loss cousins as a person as a leader as a teammate that’s a big void in your locker room one of the most humble guys I’ve ever been around servant leader just a great motivator he’s great to ask one person to fill that void is probably not probable so what we’re going to do is have a great leadership team which we’ve already seen look I don’t know that everyone in the Vikings Locker Room would agree with that assessment and I don’t know that current or former coaches in Minnesota would agree with that assessment I’ve heard some strong opinions about some you know folks who have worked with cousins in the past who question his overall leadership abilities so we we’ll see how the Vikings go moving forward and this is I think one of the reasons they were gravitating toward JJ McCarthy they they Envision in him someone who will come over and be that natural leader charismatic leader who takes the team places where it’s been trying to get back to for nearly 50 years yeah that’s I mean that’s one of the things that you know folks talked about him at Michigan as one of these great leaders one of these guys that everybody wants to follow I mean Jim Harbaugh hell he basically sang his Praises like that right so that’s something where if if you’re looking for a leadership void it’s tough for a rookie quarterback to come in and just be that guy automatically but I mean we saw it from CJ strad last year you know this guy gets on the practice field and he’s showing what he can do you know and he’s taking command of the Huddle then people are going to gravitate toward you people are going to understand oh okay this is our leader this is it this is our guy and I’m not saying that he’s got to come out and be as good as CJ strad immediately because that’s not really going to happen right by and large CJ strad is a complete outlier in that way but there is a way for a rookie quarterback to come in and show hey I’m the guy I’m going to be all right we may take a little bit of lumps but I will lead you to where we need to go and yeah that that’s GNA be JJ McCarthy’s job it’s not going to be easy but it’s something that because of the experience he has at a BigTime program and running a pro style offense it might be a bit of an easier transition for him than it might be for some other people yeah I think back to the Vikings quarterback position they haven’t had a franchise quarterback since Fran targeting and I don’t think they’ve had kind of a take charge badass since Warren Moon a guy who’s just going to come in and this is it I’m taking over this is my team I’m going to get this done and here we go I think of the past 30 years and there really isn’t a personality that stands out as somebody who really take the bull by the horns and do what needs to be done Brett Favre kind of call Pepper really wasn’t that no C pepper I still remember vividly C pepper being berated on the sidelines by Chris Carter and Randy Moss because you know throw me the ball no throw me the ball throw us both the ball at the same time Co pepper never developed into that guy because I think it was always the Randy Moss show so I’m talking about quarterback in charge take charge I’m the guy they haven’t had that in a long time and they need that in JJ McCarthy and they need a guy to come in with a different style than Kirk Cousins had hi it’s Mike Florio thanks for watching PFT on YouTube hit subscribe for the latest news and analysis from pro football talk
