Do Irons go further off the ground or the tee? #golf #distance #gapping

HAVE YOU DISTANCE GAPPED YOUR GOLF CLUBS OFF THE GROUND AND OFF THE TEE?…

I got asked the question, does the golf ball go further off the tee with irons?

This lead me to question my distance gapping?… There must be a difference in distance between hitting irons off the tee and off the ground!

Why have I never considered this with when distance gapping?

HOW MUCH DIFFERENCE in Distance is their between irons off the fairway and tee?

so last week I did a tea experiment with irons and discovered that my optimal tea height was one and A4 inch the results if I got the ti 2 high or low was incredible you’ve got to go and watch that video if you’ve not already watched it but I got asked a question and it blew my mind the question was Gaz how much difference does it make in distance and carry and dispersion when you hit the ball off the ground and when you hit the ball off the te and I was thinking well I’ve never even thought about that and I’m sure you guys haven’t we’ve all done distance gapping if you’re Keen you’ll distance Gap your irons and you’ll do it off the deck but we don’t do it off the te we have a distance chart and that distance charts just through the bag but we don’t make any calculations or adjustment for when it’s off the T well I mean I don’t anyway if you do get in the comments so we’re going to do a test today and find out with a 99 and a 79 how much difference it makes when you hit a ball off the ground and when you hit a ball off the te do we need to have a distance Gap chart for off the tea and for off the deck that’s what we’re going to find out today [Music] [Music] so if we start with Club data what’s quite surprising is that off the tea I’ve swung it about 2 mil hour quicker and that’s probably just because it’s off the tea I felt a little bit more freedom and you know a bit more confidence to to hit the ball which has increased the club speed but actual efficiency I’ve struck the ball better off the deck now if we look at ball data this really surprised I mean the ball speed didn’t surprise CU obviously we swung quicker off the te so the ball speed’s a little bit quicker but La changle is the same carry is the same and the tall distance only three yards difference which I think we’d all agree we wouldn’t really be able to notice and that’s only because the spin off the ground is a little bit lower and I can only assume that’s cuz we hit it lower out the face you know if we hit it a bit more High out the face we’re going to create a little bit more Back Spin I would assume so yeah that has really surprised me I don’t think we would notice you know three yards in difference and that’s why we probably don’t have to measure our distances you know off the te off the ground but I’m not going to conclude at that and I’m actually going to change the experiment instead of hting a seven ion I’m going to hit five ions because I think maybe the longer the iron the bigger in total distance that Gap could become because of the amount of Back Spin uh you know that we’re going to create between the ground and the tea so I’m going to check that in a bit longer iron and then that will leave the door open for us to make a little bit better conclusion [Music] what I’m going to be concerned to look at here or intrigued to look at is Club speed because i’ I’ve like miss it that one I miss it the second one and they’ve gone like nearly 200 yards that didn’t feel perfect I’m I swinging it faster because it’s off ground I feel like I can compress it more or just need one more off the face just feel as though they’re flying off the face ball speed will be a lot quicker I don’t have speed let’s have a look so firstly look at the club speed it’s not changed at all the reason why I were thinking I’m I swinging it faster is because the efficiency of stri or the the feeling of in it off the deck was just so much better better you know look at the difference in that number there efficiency and I’ve not even disabled anything yet you know so the couple of missets in there off the deck which we will disable in a minute but I just want to look at them numbers without disabling them first if we look at ball data so off the ground an increase in ball speed by 9 mph launcher stayed similar we’ve got more backs spin off the te again so we we are noticing the higher the ball the more Back Spin we creating in but look at the difference in carry and total distance so there’s definitely an argument that if you are going to be teeing it up with an iron on par free you need to test you know how far the ball’s flying off a te and how far it flies off the deck because with this Back Spin number being higher and you know obviously you might get a better strike than I do off the te could be the opposite for you guys but it’s not going to be the same I think that’s going to be the conclusion is that there is a difference in distance between between T and ground now I’m going to take them two missets out cuz I think that will actually widen their numbers a little bit more there were two mythics off the deck um it was the second one and the fourth one if we compare now that’s you know it’s made that number even wider apart so the efficiency’s gone up Club speed gone at 1 miles hour um but yeah total distance I mean that is 30 yard a carry difference off the deck so in conclusion I think it’s safe to say there is definitely a difference between itting the ball off the ground and T with an Aon and in terms of distance gapping it’s definitely a test that needs to be done off the tea and off off the ground and it might not be the case that you know obviously this experiment is consistent to what you do but I think if you do this experiment you might learn a little bit about your own game and whether you’re a better ball Striker off a tea or off a ground because before this test I would have guessed I ate the ball better off a tea but in fact from what I’ve seen today I’m a lot better off the ground I think they would have experiment actually playing myons off the ground when te off on par freeze guys I hope you’ve enjoyed that video I hope it’s got you thinking about your own game make sure the Subscribe button and we’ll see you in a couple of days time bye sh for

  1. Like I said Gary, no idea why people tee irons up so high 😀, it makes no sense for Iron delivery, the sweet spot for irons is only a couple of grooves up not at the top of the club like it is with a wood. An iron should only be tee'd up so it looks like a stunning lie on a perfect fairway in my opinion.

  2. I tee irons low in any event, just use the tee for consistent ball position. I tend to tee up immediately behind a previous divot, so teed down tight, this encourages me to squeeze the ball away, the only difference i find off the tee, is a slight left flight, which might give more distance. My teaching professional says my swing doesn’t differ, the club face data is the same, so we are confused as to why there is a very slight pull

  3. I have found the same perhaps thats why I use a green tee, maybe the small height difference off the tee keeps the gapping closer

  4. With that result it would be worth adding a green tee back in to compare also and doing the test on grass into a par 3 green?

  5. It's always good to know those differences. Par 3 that's between clubs, off a tee or off the deck can make a difference for sure.

  6. If you want to carry this further you should test how far you hit it off grass not a mat. I've found a noticeable difference in distance between the two without even considering tee use.

  7. Interesting, now go out to the course with James and test on the grass and check back spin on the green. There has to be a big difference in taking a divot after the ball vs hitting off a mat. 🤷‍♀️

  8. Tried this today myself when playing a couple off par3's, both shots off the higher tee came up short.
I've always played low tees, better compression I think.
