perfect we’d like to welcome Xander schafle into the Well Fargo Championship Media Center Xander you’ve had some great success here at qual Hollow uh last year with your runner-up finish as well as being a part of the Victorious 2022 Presidents Cup have you had a chance to play the course yet and can you give us just a few comments on it yeah it’s uh definitely the last time uh we were here as a team had some good vibes and you know talk talked about it a little bit today with Austin and and Pat so um definitely Good Vibes being on property play nin holes uh greens are they they’ve been resurfaced so they do have that firmness to them despite all the rain so just as a whole just a complet different course than when we played for the presents cup so definitely good memories to look back on but not going to be able to play off of any memory you’ve had seven uh top 10 finishes so far this season what’s been working so well for you um a little bit of everything I’d say I haven’t really been able to get everything together at once which is sort of the story for every tour pro so still working on that bit all right we’ll open it up for questions if you guys have any questions please raise your hand and I’ll get the microphone to you I can hear you uh Shane was in here earlier talking oh that’s really loud though uh Shane was in here earlier talking about how playing at the Zurich and kind of free him up a little bit you get into that team event it kind of frees you up for the rest of the year do you have that feeling at all especially when you’re playing with a guy like Patrick and you kind of have the back half of the Season still in front of you does it free you up at all does it kind of shake things up having that event right in the middle of the Season like that yeah I mean for for Shane it’s they won so um when you’re you know when you win it definitely you you have a sense of playing Freer you know I’ve been on both sides of it where I I won late in the year and I won early in the year and you definitely sort of cruise the tournaments with a different mindset for you know obvious reasons after you win early in the year so I’m sure Shane has that feeling right now um I haven’t won so you know I don’t really have that current feeling uh but uh yeah it’s fun to play in the middle of the year it’s fun to shake things up uh playing with Pat definitely you know I’m not scared to hit sort of a loose errand shot I know he’s going to chip it up there to a tap in so um there’s certain certain shots that you know with certain weird winds on property that you may you may attack a little bit differently versus if you’re just doing a normal stroke play tournament and know you said there’s nothing you can really pull from when you were here from the President’s Cup going into this week but like you said you have played well here in the past what is it about Quail Hollow that you kind of see the course well or is it something that fits your game or what is it what makes you feel so comfortable out here it’s uh you know a lot of the holes feel like execution um it’s a big it’s a big boy Golf Course Championship style uh I’ve played it sort of overseed and uh with Bermuda it plays very different both times um this week with the rain the feries seem to be a lot softer than they normally are usually your ball’s sort of bounding out of the Fairway into bunkers and into that Ry rough and you can kind of have to gauge it going into the greens when that are typically firm so uh I think it’s just a fun course to play and you have to execute uh shots kind of throughout the throughout the entirety of the [Music] tournament right up to Shawn Martin right up right up here have you gained speed this year the stats seem to suggest it and is that a byproduct of the Swing changes or anything else it’s I can’t really pin pin in on one thing you know I started working with a new trainer um he’s definitely helped me feel a lot stronger just my Baseline strength is probably better um and then working with Chris as well moving the club a little bit differently uh that that’s been very helpful so I think a combination of the two I don’t know how to weigh the situation between them what what’s more or less but um those two things have definitely helped me pick up some speed was it an intentional like I want to pick up speed this year it was yeah so it’s nice to to be able to accomplish that goal um did you just feel like you were falling behind guys or just that was important to competing or where did that come from uh if you just kind of look look up I mean Scotty is an outlier in in many ways currently um he’s actually dropped speed which is just mind-blowing I mean no one hit hits their irons or or gets up gets up and down around the greens better than him so his iron plays Elite so he can afford to sort of drop some distance off the te I mean I think he’s hitting more Fairways I haven’t really done too deep of a dive I just saw that his average ball speed was was down than you know I played with him a couple couple years ago and he was sending it past me so at that time I felt like I needed to to pick up some pace and now that he’s dropped back you know he’s just doing doing Scotty things so but in in general if you look at the sort of top 10 15 20 players in the world there’s sort of a threshold that you need to hit um if you’re not sort of a crazy Elite iron player or a crazy Scrambler things of that nature so I figured any Edge I can get on the field um if it’s you know flying the ball 15 yards further and and being able to take out a bunker on a hole that other guys can’t that’ll help me over the the span of a season and did you play the front or back today I played the front today so you haven’t seen the new te at 16 then Austin told me yeah Austin told me uh they put a te at 340 you know that’s I’m going to need a a gaale force win to cover that one right over here hey’s anderw Jason Brown Spectrum news1 here in Charlotte welcome back to the Queen City um I’m curious from a scheduling standpoint you have this signature event here next week is the PJ Championship up at Valla but of course not too far from here is Pinehurst in the US Open which is next month how do you manage that because I’m sure it’s tempting to want to go over there you prior to the start of this tournament and just at least take a look at it so how are you at least trying to manage that from a scheduling situation yeah I’m lucky I was uh Austin my caddy he he went uh he flew in from uh I was in Florida just practicing if I didn’t play New Orleans I was probably going to sneak over to Pinehurst um but just being on one week of rest uh I ended up not going over uh to pineh horse or or Valhalla actually so Austin went over to pineh herse checked it out he said it was very soft they you know just like here they got a ton of rain um so you know it’s just so hard to tell when you go early in advance tournaments uh how a course is going to play even if you take you know Augusta for example you know the one time I went on a scouting trip there it was 42 degrees in hailing and I still played 18 holes cuz it was a dream of mine so um I’ve never played it austa I mean this was this year was the hardest I’ve never any other day I’ve ever played it it was never hailing so it’s kind of hard to to to decide how to go about it yeah that makes sense and so so with that sort of little knowledge that your caddy has about Pinehurst I mean when do you start sort of forming a game plan or do you sort of feel like I’ll know more once I actually see it personally and start practicing yeah once I get on property he has some sort of idea um you know on how the course is is shaping and and things of that nature but honestly in in in big Wheats like that you either you know you hang your head on a statistician or or some stack ey that you can you can have um but uh you know pineur I I believe there’s no data on that on that property and um that’s sort of a week where you know I feel fortunate to have a cad as good as Austin because he’s going to have to go out there and you know walk 30 40,000 steps to sort of give me any advantage I can get any other questions oh yep right in the back to Bob Sandra are you are you aware of um the the cut streak you’ve got going right now and and if so have you given it much thought you’re trying to hit me with a commentator’s curse here or something no no well you can’t you you can’t miss it this week so I figure I can bring it up that’s right it’s okay it’s an okay time don’t bring it up any other week right right it’s fair it’s fair this week um I mean yes and no I you know it gets brought up I think Austin’s actually the one who brought it up to me a couple weeks ago maybe um but you know it it is what it is I think you know I don’t know who’s who else is playing a lot of events that you know and making the cut I think it’s a it’s definitely a testament to consistency uh all of us out here want to win tournaments and um I guess that’s a different question but uh yeah I’m kind of I mean I’m aware of it now that you mentioned it are does it give you any um I don’t know sense of perspective as to the fact you know what tiger did all those years ago making all those cuts you you’re I think you’re like 90 something behind them yeah yeah it would mean I have to play another like three and a half years to uh to to get close to his number yeah it’s ridiculous um that’s why uh he’s he’s you know that’s why he’s the goat that’s he he did stuff like that and he has records like that that’ll never be broken in in all seriousness though when you’re when you’re doing it like this um obviously it’s been a while is have there been any times where on a Friday where you just thought man it it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if I did miss a cut or do you fight through those thoughts to try to to try to keep going I uh yeah I I grind I uh I don’t think I’ve ever sat on a property and you know glass half full maybe after I missed a cut I was like you know probably good thing I missed it you know what I mean but when I’m in the hunt and trying to make a cut I mean it’s definitely one of the things that are exciting out here is a tour pro and gut wrenching no matter how highly ranked you are in the world or not um it’s pretty humbling and it’s it’s definitely it’s it’s fun and stressful to make these puts for you know down the stretch and hit good shots to to sort of make the cut thank you okay any other questions yeah one more Z when do you start thinking about the Olympics uh obviously with it coming up this summer has that thought started coming into your mind at all or what when does that kind of start planning out for you after major season is it I it’s got to be tough to walk out I mean yeah it’s hard you know you kind of have some plans in place it’s just the US team is I mean I’m sure there’s other teams but the US team just feels like it’s a really hard one to qualify for even though they’re taking four guys um imagine if they’re taking two like most most countries you know it’d be uh it’d be pretty brutal but yeah just trying to position myself um I haven’t really thought too far ahead you know I’ve sort of planned if if if I were to qualify of sort of staying overseas um either popping in or or hanging around uh versus coming back and going you know going doing that whole back and forth things so um other than that that’s sort of the extent of of my brain traveling that far all right thank you so much Xander and good luck this week thanks
