[Music] how’s it guys welcome to the P Valley Golf Club on the V estate we are back in the golfing Gods fitment facility today we’re going to take this Callaway AI smoke driver the latest and greatest driver of callaways and uh it’s got weights in the driver there’s a 14 G weight that comes at the back of the driver and there’s a 2 G weight in the front of the driver we’re going to do a test today with our test pilots and we’re going to see what differences we get if any with this weight configuration then we’re going to swap the weights around and then we’re going to take out the 14 G weights we’re going to put another two G weights in and we’re going to run it with two two G weights and we’re going to see if there’s a difference and what those differences are okay test pilot you’ve got the standard weight setting hit a couple of shots and we moving the 2 G weight to the back and we’re putting the 14 G weight in the front and now we’re going to take the 14 G weight out and we are going to put a 2 G weight in so we’re going to run this head now with two 2 G weights so what we actually doing is we’re dropping the swing weights by 12 G which is about six swing weights cuz 2 G in weight is about a swing weight and uh let’s see what uh what happens with the numbers okay so in summary here are the numbers have a look so let’s first look at Raw carry when the 14 G weights in the front and the 2 G weights at the back the test pilot was carrying the ball 241 M when we moved the 2 G weight to the back we swapped it and we put the 14 G in the front all of a sudden he carried it 4 M further what has happened in terms of CED speed has stayed the same spin is slightly different launch it’s come out a little bit lower but he’s actually hit it further so just by swapping the weights he’s carrying the ball further now when we removed the 14 G weights and we made the club lighter and we put a 2 G weight in its place he picked up another 4 M of raw carry look at the club head speed so the club head speed went up because the club’s lighter and his spin went down what happened to the launch he actually launched it slightly lower so now you can see that it’s quite critical to play with the weights in the driver heads some driver heads don’t have weights so you can’t play with them maybe look for a driver head that’s got weights that are interchangeable and go somewhere and get a fitting where they have different weights and play with those weights so it’s not just playing with a shaft combination and a head combination play with the weights to change the numbers to suit you do you want a higher launch do you want a lower launch do you want more spin do you want less spin do you want more CED speed do you want less CED speed but at the end of the day the difference from playing with the weights is8 M of raw carry and that is a lot with a [Music] driver

  1. I've self-diagnosed on drivers for 35 years. But I recently decided to get out of my TSR3 (and predecessors). I used to game them in order to lower spin, but now that low spin works against me. Because I didn't have a fitter in my new town, I decided to go to…wait for it…PXG!

I never would have pictured myself at PXG. And no, I didn't drink the Kool-Aid and fill up my bag with their stuff. I was there for the driver only. We quickly settled on the Black Ops (not the tour version), and it came down to weights and shaft. After adjusting the weights and picking the shaft and grip, I ordered it. The PXG has 3 weight ports, and you can purchase a weight kit to tinker further, which I will. In the meantime, I'm getting more spin on the driver, optimal for my swing speed (101-102) and a better launch angle. Is it the club? A little bit, since the club is designed to reduce backspin. (But not as dramatically as the TSR3.) But what changed is the weights—they're a better fit for me. I'll likely buy the weight kit so I can increase the swing weight and reduce the amount of "fix" being provided by the standard weights. But this was amazing.

Lesson: find a good fitter and get fit. Yes, I turned to PXG because I was new in town and didn't know a good fitter. But they're not the only answer. Find someone who can fit your clubs (all of them) to your game.
