I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my channel where you can learn how to play the best golf of your life. Whether you are an expert golfer looking for a quick swing tune-up or a beginner looking to play better. I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.

My mission as your swing coach is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.

My goal for you is to have the most fun of your life playing golf. You’ll be hitting farther, straighter, and playing better golf by watching these videos. What are you waiting for, let’s get started!

you know it takes 5 seconds for you to change your ball striking good impact we all see this every time it’s the hands leading the club head like this focusing on this simple position right here and the common thing in golf is we struggle with flipping this Flipper the dolphin the hands are doing this the arms are pulling apart it’s shattering your golf dreams but then when you really want to rip one and you force you’re trying to force those hands ahead you’re trying to force good impact you’re trying to force a ball div It Strike and it doesn’t seem to be working have you thought about the grip I can’t tell you how many times going back to simple things like the setup has resulted in fixing my golf swing Horrors and turning them into golf swing dreams I was in a situation where my ball striking was suffering I had a very strong grip at one time and my right hand was laying off the club and whenever I swung through impact just by the nature of this right hand you see that right hand look at that it’s it’s like it’s already telling me hey let’s flip at it so I would start like this and I would swing and I hit a high straight shot now that’s really crisp nothing wrong with having that grip there but this right hand right through impact I can feel this going on a scoop the only thing I should be scooping is ice cream not golf shots nothing was compressed and then I took a quick look a little Gander at my right right hand and I was like huh that is a flip let’s change that around instead let’s push those hands into more of a crisp impact position right there I’m going to preset impact and the way I did that it’s so simple 5 Seconds what is this 5 seconds maybe like 1.5 seconds hand on top right there so my my left hand stays the same but your right hand on top all of a sudden I’m feeling this it’s like that hammer into a nail sensation plowing through the ball versus swiping at it swiping that’s like a Tinder golf shot we don’t swipe right or swipe left oh that’s getting risky right there now we got this plowing through the ball and so I changed put my right hand on top same swing now just check out the ground here check out the ground I’m going to swing right through way more compressed that’s all I did I went from this to this you can see the result the reaction on my face and also the club face significantly better contact four grooves up and a lot of dirt that feels way better now I’m going to hit one with a little bit of a fuller swing just to show you again cuz this 5-second Miracle hand covering and I’m planting it on that thumb when I talk about planting I’m applying pressure down on that thumb my grip’s always like this your grip shouldn’t change your grip should not come undone during your swing I see this a ton in my lessons golfers are starting out like this with their hands it’s almost like the grips an afterthought but it’s your only connection to the club the grip should be a first thought not secondary because if you’re secure here then the rest of your swing is allowed to work much better what happens when you’re losing your grip oh I don’t know how how are you going to expect how yeah how do you expect to hit the ball well from here the only thing holding the club is the left hand my lead hand and then when I regrip well how am I going to regrip am I going to push am I going to pull am I just going to grunt ow my I felt that all the way up the shoulder whoa so having pressure on that hand will actually lead to less pressure throughout your entire body during the swing it’s going to feel more free flowing isn’t that ironic so we’re here we’re going to go again 5 Seconds 1.5 seconds I’m just going to put that hand on top and I’m going to swing wow that is a buttery biscuit that is a buttery biscuit biscuit I feel like I’m smiling at the camera like I’m at that kid at the dentist office who just got the lollipop after going into the dentist office and get his teeth clean I always love that they gave you a lollipop after getting your teeth clean incredibly sinful all right so let’s see if we can get some other cool extractions out of this little grip tip I know it’s so simple and what okay look at look at after impact just check this out so from this view what you’re going to see through impact is this wedge you keep that intact I’ve said it a million times on this channel you keep that intact you’re going to play Great Golf Johnny Miller Johnny Miller said it’s the magic move as much as we don’t like those gimmicky sounds but I’m going to put that hand on top again and just swing my shoulders oh that was torched it’s like a spring loaded spring-loaded Cannon Vault boom unreal unbelievable like that song it’s unbelievable so what are we going to do again we’re going to hit it again because that feels great hand on top covering covering [Music] I could do this all day long that hand on top what a difference in the feeling of the strike let’s do it again and if you’re working on this at home you’re going to feel like you’re going to feel like you’ve got a lot more of this right hand this Trail and over it’s going to be uncomfortable yeah it takes one and a half seconds it’s going to feel uncomfortable especially if you’re used to having the hand off the club so make sure that when you’re practicing on this don’t be afraid to rehearse it so I’ve got it in securely in my hands and I’m just going to turn my shoulders and I’m look I’m secure there I still feel that same pressure point when I bring it down check that out it’s it’s still it’s still the same now I swing through still the same and after it’s helping me get good impact let’s do another one another ball divot strike you swear it’s a miracle but it’s just one and a half seconds of me changing my grip you know if you want to create strikes like this I got a free mini course go.so do golf it shows you the top three keys you need to be a great ball Striker this is a great way to get started you start feeling some great shots but if you really want to put everything together get started into my free little mini course it is a fantastic way to build a body-friendly powerful swing all right what are we doing hand on top why are we doing it because we want to cuz we want to hit a good golf shot oh no that was trash my swing looks like it’s straight backing up feels like it’s straight backing up just hold right there cameraman I lost my my mojo that’s better that’s better oh that was so much better remarkably clean strike it’s unbelievable [Applause] [Music] aah [Music] [Applause] [Music]

  1. Spot on… it’s amazing how 99% of the time your swing feels “off” if you have a remotely functional swing it has nothing to do how with how you’re actually swinging the club and the problem is often a slight set up miscue.

  2. Makes a lot of sense. Looks like it's related to the concept of maintaining the angle on the back of the right wrist. Can't wait to try this.

  3. Buttery biscuits? Sounds like somebody's getting into hockey playoff season mode by catching up on some old On the Bench eppies. Tom's tips are supes crucie boys for rippin' the marshmallow like a laser down the green mile and through the twine at the end of the driving range at over 300 Kanadians per hour.

  4. Thanks! This is exactly what I was talking about on one of my comments on your older videos. Perfect! Bring the side burns back!

  5. Whatever it is. Good shot always drag longer post ball impact. Bad shot, hit ground first before ball impact. That's me now. No matter what I do, still strike behind ball. Damnnnng..

  6. I am a 17 hcp. I've not hit a golfball all winter season (6 months). First round of the season today, low expectations. Went out today and hit a 79, my first time under 80 since I started golfing seven years ago, using only this change to my grip! It made so much difference it was hard to believe! Before I was supinating too much in the right hand. Much better ball striking. Unbelievable! Thx Tom!

  7. I have this exact problem and been working on trying to fix it. I have messed up wrists from years of skateboarding. So I’ve always tried to overdue a strong grip. But trying to fix it’s been way more tough. It’s really noticeable with drivers and woods. Causes gnarly hooks for me. With drivers and woods I’m trying to not even interlock or overlap fingers to get a weaker grip

  8. Wow!! A light blub just went off and exploded in my head. I have been allowing the right hand coming off the grip due to a condition in my right wrist area. The right hand is basically fused with no ability to hinge and very little range of motion. The condition is called Kienbock's Disease. I have been able to hit hybrids and driver on the range but no success with my irons. I was allowing the right hand to come off the grip in order to compensate for the limited motion in my wrist. I will try this grip change and hopefully it will help. Thanks for posting.

  9. Great video. How do you avoid an inside takeaway but also keep your trail arm really connected? Thanks. Super content.

  10. Thanks Tom. FWIW, and IMO, it would help if your camera person keeps you entirely in frame all the time. Or better yet, let them film b-roll. Your traditional fixed video format is much more effective in helping tie all the pieces together. It also gave a more consistent point of reference and visual when translating your concepts into movements. As always, appreciate ya!

  11. Love that right hand grip tip! It feels like it's covering the ball & it keeps the left arm extended. What a great feel to trap the ball! I had that long ago & lost it.

  12. There is a reason that Ben donated a whole chapter/lesson to the grip!!

  13. Just watched the new video. Will be trying out the grip this afternoon at the course. Just wanted to give a big thumbs up on the video quality and filming technique. This appears to be new compared to many of your other videos. Picture quality is very sharp and I like the cameraman moving around during the presentation instead of just the usual static shots. Thanks.

  14. Ahh great minds etc. In the down swing I feel the grip pressing against the joint above my right forefinger right through impact! Release is automatic with distance and accuracy.

  15. The right hand is an absolute killer! I struggled with a duck hook driver and tried everything to fix it. After months I stopped hitting my driver completely. As soon as I moved my hand over the top I was hitting my driver farther and straighter than ever! I was also hitting big draws with the irons which are now going straight! Saguto, you’re the man!

  16. Hi, i have watched you videos for sometime but decided to give it a go yesterday for the first time. I'm half decent and play off 7, but i couldn't stop topping the ball. I started to try and play the ball further and further back which i assume isn't the right the thing to do. Any tips please?

  17. Literally fixed everything i was working through this weekend. Slicing the ball mid round, make grip stronger… and stronger… Thinning more and more shots… Ruined the round.

Today after watching and implementing this video in the simulator I didnt want to quit.. 7 iron. 7 wood. 3 wood. Didnt matter. The crispiest of strikes all around. Thanks again Tom

  18. Tom,
Am I nit-picking when I point out that I can still see part of your left thumb at set-up at 4:18 in the video?

  19. 5 of my last 7 rounds have been between 75-78. I'm hitting a ton of greens and striking my irons as good as ever. Played since '77, one lesson when I was 11 and my hncp has dropped from 14.6 to 10.4 in the last 2 months. What did I do different, I started watching this guys videos on YouTube.

  20. would love to see a 9 or 18 course vlog on course management and or your though process through shots etc.. Great stuff!

  21. Outstanding tip. My right hand was too strong.. with this and your other tip to keep weight on the left side i can know hit flush strikes. I have a 9 hole par 3 course played 18 holes and 15 shots were pure, even the 3 i missed still eere pin high…..

  22. My man, I use your trail grip, and it works like charm. Added with a tee 8 inch behind the ball. No more scooping ice cream. You're the online champ.

  23. Great tips! I tend to use a stronger grip because I have little B#@ch hands! I tried this at home felt pretty good with the pressure on my thumb felt more relaxed without feeling loose. Next session at the driving range Iam going to give it a try. Thanks Tom!

  24. An "AHA!" moment for me was letting the club travel back and letting my trail wrist bend straight back to load at the top as opposed to letting my grip break down. It keeps the club face in the right position through the swing. Keeping the grip consistent through the swing is HUGE. As always, I'm totally here for the old music references, and the shout out to EMF is no exception!

  25. Very Interesting… you ask I prefer never putting an iron in my golf bag. because everything goes to hell.. life is great without ..irons

  26. I haven't commented on your channel but I think I've thumbed up every video of yours that I've seen. I'm planning to buy your membership. Why you? Well, it's not that your saying exactly what I want to hear, like a lot of YouTubers, who want to make the swing more complicated rather than less. Because I'm not a natural, I wanted to believe the swing needed to be more complex than it needs to be to explain my reason for doing it so poorly. Watching your channel unlocked an avenue of thought previously unthought… keeping it simple. My biggest criticism of my own game, and my swing, has been inconsistency. It's unfortunate that for so long I believed that weight shifting and perfectly timed flipping and this and that, made more sense than the approach you present. But better to learn late than not at all. I am going to do the free mini-course and put it to use this opening weekend and then subscribe.

  27. I just watched your dominant eye video from 3 years ago. It doesn't look like you're still moving your head to block the dominant eye here.

  28. Hey SagutoGolf, I just watched your video and I must say that it was really informative and well-made.

I was wondering if I could help you edit your videos and repurpose your long videos into highly engaging shorts? I can also make high CTR thumbnails for your channel

  29. I'm so flippen tired of trying not to flip the club year after year. I can't wait to try this out
