hello everybody and welcome to Avenger
park for this npl men’s Victoria Clash
today between the reigning npl Victoria
Champions Avendale and green Gully a
beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon here
in Parkville for its clash between two
sides whose form couldn’t be more
contrasting to start the season aend
sitting in second coming off the back of
three consecutive wins in the league and
four in all competitions taking on a
Greenly side who have not won in the
league in over two months and the
pressure is continuing to build on a
side that are in one way just to put it
bluntly underwhelming this
season ni too and Mark kovich on hand
today to bring you all the action mark
this is a big game for green to try
and get a response but also for Avendale
to try keep Pace with South Melbourne
but top of the standings good afternoon
Nick 100% uh big big game for GRE gy
they need to turn their season around
very very quickly cuz it’s it’s going
pretty pearshaped at the moment and
Avendale you know tough tough game
during the week uh pushed extra time in
the cup against ala re so going to be a
bit weary out there don’t want to go in
control nice and early and um avoid you
know going going to the wire with
goly so two changes for both teams
heading into this game Avendale making
one in Midfield and one in defense of
course Christian tresy suffering a
season ending leg injury last week
against Danny long thunder means he’s
out of the side today with George mels
coming into Midfield to replace him and
there’s another change in defense and
it’s a big one masimo deeno in at Center
back with khu Kamar out of the squad
today Sebastian Vargas comes into the
team to fill up the bench this week but
aend going with one less only five
players on the bench in Zaki markovski
side who are also still without the
likes of Dylan jakupi and ET towns well
green Gully as well making two changes
delor marovich drops out of the squad
entirely this week coming into the side
is both Joshua hope and Justin spatii as
tiar rakunda drops to the
bench greeny last week 2-1 loss at home
against Port Melbourne Avendale an 8 nil
win against daning onong Thunder it
really just sums up the contrasting
fortunes between these two sides
Avendale aside looking to compete for
silverware yet again this
year after winning the npl Victoria
double and still as you mentioned a
little bit earlier Mark in the docky cup
as well as we’re underway green gy
kicking in from left to right in their
Away Great hits Avendale in their home
blue kits going
from right to left today as beautiful
sunny afternoon here at Avenger Park
plenty of action happening right across
the npl and vpl 1
today is round
11 well and truly underway in Victoria
this weekend so an early bit of pressure
here from Green
Gully Matthew krooks to take this throw
in quickly looking to play into hope his
pass is accepted by Zin comes back to
Joshua hope cross takes a deflection and
rolls all the way through to Thomas
Manos but Mark it’s been tough for
greenal this year uh two wins from their
opening three games to start the year
but since then only two draws and
majority of those Gam games since then
as well have been defeats what have you
noticed has not gone right for green
galy this year A lot’s been made of
their attack but it seems like that
isn’t the only issue for Steven Downs
aside this season yeah I think uh you
know the PS wearing um departure just
before the season obviously is an ideal
but that’s at the moment that’s the
least of their problems they’re
conceding soft goals week in week out um
and with the the players in defense that
they’ve got they’ve got the caliber to
be keeping clean sheets regularly you
got Taylor shes um at the heart of the
Feld
uh Jal regay as well coming across from
Port mour it’s a pretty good Center back
partnership
so there’s there’s probably more behind
the scenes that we don’t know about Nick
that’s that’s going wrong there they
just look lifeless in their performances
in the past few
weeks well if they’re going to respond
this is the game to do it but we’ve been
waiting for that green galy response for
weeks Mark they’re only winning all
competitions coming against North jalong
Warriors in the doy cup during that
period of time but
right now they’re sitting towards the
the bottom end of the standings and to
sum it up sort of a bit more brutally
they they’re almost kind of fortunate
this season that only one team is going
down
because if it was a normal season they’d
only be a point clear of the Drop Zone
which is unlike Green gly from the last
few years of course though back in 2018
when Steven DS took over it was just
before when they were playing in a
promotion relegation playoff against the
side that occupies last spot on the
standings mland City
yeah but you got to be careful n because
that’s you know we we saw the wording in
that in the um rules of competition so
that’s if if the second division does go
ahead everyone is assuming that it does
but you know foot football in Australia
seems to amaz us week in week out so you
know if it doesn’t go ahead there’ll be
two that drops so you’d want to steer
steer clear off that second last
position just in case things go pair
shape with the second division um
because you can find yourself relegated
and playing in vpl 1 next
season you know we saw earlier on this
afternoon the melbour knights with the
dismissal of Ben Suri um you know I
wonder if that puts a bit more pressure
on Steven DS today as well if they don’t
get the result once clubs start pulling
the trigger other clubs in and around
them seem to to follow suit if results
aren going the way they want them to
come back to that in just a sec a free
kick here for green Galley that free
kick takes a deflection it’s out for a

so yeah as Mark alluded to three
coaching changes now in the top tier of
Victorian football this season we’ve
seen cam Watson’s apart T City Ryan
McGuffy at St Orbin departing and now
benri at Melbourne

kabian getting back and nodding it away
Matthew Kooks getting forward from
defense to win it from stepan
zini of course Whenever there is a a
coaching change the the scuttlebut
continues as to who The Replacements
going to be there are always names
floated and you hear it around Whispers
In Victorian football there’s always
different scuttlebut going on so another
loss for green Gully will just pile on
that pressure on Steven
Downs here’s kadak
po just kept it alive plays it centrally
to Josh
hope seems like with this screen G team
one thing noticed Mark in terms of a
squad composition they got a lot of very
similar players very crafty players who
get on the ball like Luca here but
really just lacking a bit ofit even bit
of steal in the middle of the park who
players like Jamie Lam and Jan Luka
yucci playing as 28 who you know we’re
used to them playing further up the
pitch I mean Jamie lean was so key for
mland City’s survival hopes last season
playing further up and John look uni
made a name for himself as a Winger yeah
you need a little bit more Grant in in
the middle of the park you know they are
all top quality players playing in in um
midfield for GR galy but you see with
with Avendale you’ve got a lot of
mobility in um tan Cuba George mels the
playmaker and Joey kaban is is the grunt
you know whereas gr galy it’s just three
three Playmakers so when when things
start going tough in a game it’s you
know no one’s there to to stand up and
um stand their Authority on on the pitch
and also has been well documented as you
mentioned off the top Mark I mean green
have been basically playing without a a
recognized Striker for the entire season
it’s Mo Adam who’s entrusted with the
the role leading the line today but he’s
been one of many choices to start this
season he’s Stefan zini it’s a good
challenge from yuchi getting back to
denies any the shooting opportunity kako
looking to feed through Muhammad Adam
that’s not a bad ball darino getting
back and puts the ball out for a corner
this is a not a bad start at all here
from Green galy putting avendelle under
some pressure playing quite direct
trying to play through the lines well
we’ve seen this season when uh my man
Kamar isn’t uh playing for avendelle
they do they’re a little bit shaky at
the back you know of course Aden BR is a
is a top level Defender but without his
partner Kamar you know uh aend got quite
a youthful defense today so if green is
ever going to score some goals today is
the
day well with near par from yoi and it’s
clear by YF Ahmed

injured as well doesn’t help their
cause so really the the three attacking
options that Steven DS was expected to
have at his disposal this season all
unavailable today but still enough
quality in that final third to cause
aend Dal some issues I mean Mohammad
Adam a very talented player same with
Josh hope and Adolf
kako but just on that wearing situation
ni you know Oakley’s paid a transfer fee
for for wearing if you’re graly it’s a
week before the season starts I wouldn’t
let him go unless you’ve got a
replacement lined up they should have
just stuck to their guns and and held on
to pierce yeah he probably would have
wanted to leave himself but you’re
contracted to the club and if we can’t
find the replacement you’re not going
anywhere so I think it’s a bit of
mismanagement from the club to just let
him go and and not replace him well Pi
saring since G Oakley only scoring the
one goal is starts have come few and far
between stuck behind another former
green gy striker in Alex salmon in the
pecking order but we’ve seen as of late
it’s
been even Assad kumovi who
has himself a start in recent weeks out
wide when wearing has got an opportunity
has played more as a Winger
but it’s been bit of a tough start to
him for for life at Oakley but here’s a
chance for gly looking to get forward
SPI cross is met by Aiden Bryce there
was a poor one there from the youngster
as kabian looking to launch the attack
from Deep going to feed through Stefan
zeni and he gets a touch there zeni is’s
in behind here Stefan zinian a good
challenge from Kooks at the last moment
and matd krooks who has only just come
back into the green Galley side in
recent weeks making a huge
intervention Stefan zini eight goals
this
season it’s been a a really good patch
from Zin over the last couple of Seasons
Mark I mean last season was so key for
the side that did obviously win the
double but this year is really picked up
where he left off yeah when when zin’s
in in form he’s probably the most
unplayable Winger in the competition you
know his Pace his power and his
finishing is up there with with the
best nice looking to play through armed
but that’s going to roll all the way
through to Liam Driscoll it’s
interesting one with Avendale because
ever since Liam Ban’s departure they’ve
opted to essentially make Usef armed
they’re out at number nine they did sort
of double with that a lot last season as
well but YF ared who is naturally a
Winger sort of shifting into players
that Striker option they do of course
have George OD as well in the squad he’s
on the bench
today so it’s really a t of two
different teams Avendale finding an
option with not the usual number nine
but
they’re making it work while green gy
haven’t so far this
season here’s

know for a number nine it’s about
getting the service yeah you know um and
really greeny haven’t been creating too
many chances so like I said earlier it’s
I think a lack of a a natural number
nine is is the least of the issues at
the moment you know if they’re creating
the chances regularly and they’re
missing them that’s a different
story Adam feding
behind it’s cross blocked by
Bryce bounds there for a corner so it’s
been an okay start from Green Gully
little bit of energy in the early going
of this game just played over 10 minutes
here at Avenger
Park br’s Last Five results so 2-1
defeat to Port Melbourne 3-0 loss away
against South Melbourne draws against
both dandong sides one all on both those
occasions and a 4-1 defeat against Oak
that game against Dy City though is the
one that really comes to mind when they
left points on the table Le him with
only seconds to go before jop’s late
equalizer an absolute belting

Crooks third season now green Gully for
Joshua hope since coming back out of
his professional retirement in 2020 from
Melbourne
Victory and opting to return to
semi-professional football in
2022 with green galy after a little bit
of a sabatical
strong Challenge on spti and referee Yan
zus waves play on Ahmed mels feeding
ker immediately put under some sort of
pressure there Kirker have you seen his
start to life at Avendale I mean he was
a a high-profile signing for the club
coming across from spending some time in
Queensland as well as overseas in South
Australia but he’s he’s shown some some
bits so far since coming to Avenger Mark
yeah it’s um it’s been impressive he’s a
little bit inconsistent but he you
expect that with someone coming from
Interstate their first year is always a
little bit difficult you know moving
State um finding accommodation getting
used to Melbourne life npl Victoria is
obviously a lot different to uh npl
South Australia so he’s adapted quite
well and you just you’d expect him to
get better and better as the season goes
on here’s kadak
po Fe it back back to
yui he sprays it out wide to
hope the line towards Muhammad Adam
and tried to keep it alive but it’s out
for a goal kick and in those moments
Mark I can’t help but think every time
getting in a lot of good Crossing
positions but when you don’t have a tall
Striker who can compete in the air with
the likes of Bry and daro it’s just
continues to hammer home the point what
they’re missing up front this season
yeah you could say in that instance you
know was the wrong run from uh from Adam
um and hope had really nothing to play
it to they off having a shot to be
honest have had the wood over Green galy
in recent times they haven’t lost
against Green galy since the start of
the 2021 season a two-nil win for green
Gully here at Avenger Park in the
teaming Reign that day it done with 10
players Jay Davies was sent off that day
for for green gy since then it’s been
basically all oneway traffic but gy did
get a draw here in
2022 last year it
was winning
3-2 also a 4-nil win as well
so hasn’t always been easy going for gy

Run that’s that’s where he goes Hope
just tries a first time effort and his
shot takes a deflection and it’s out for
another corner so set pie starting to
pile up for green gly but still yet to
really test Thomas manel’s goal yeah the
pressure is coming um I want to make the
most of the set pieces really you know
we’ve halfed on about the the lack of uh
number nine presence but uh they man of
set pie they’re racking up probably
their best having needs to go this
afternoon yui plays it short leam he
whips it in not a bad ball into the back
post and it’s across the face I think it
was might have been Jalil regag who got
the final touch on that it was him and
Josh hope in that vicinity will come
back from yuci regag was sizing it up at
the back post but Bryce was there to
clear it
away so a bit better there from Green
Gully really starting to up the pressure
on this Avendale defense
the sort of response that Steven DS
would have wanted from Green Gully just
to come out and put aend on the back
foot early don’t give him a chance to
really exercise control cuz you know
what happens when aend are able to get
comfortable they can really really cause
hurt to the opposition yeah I think the
first go is so important today um you
know you can see if AAL gets the first
you’d imagine great G is just going to
drop their heads and think here we go
again but if gly can get the first one
they’ll be up and
about Cuba

kabian feet there from Cuba and he wins

but he’s it’s a poor ball and goes all
the way to Matthew krooks instead of
finding Stefan zini
very eventful 12 months for Sean Cuba
broke out at Alona last season and
looked bound to signed for South
Melbourne in fact he had signed for
South Melbourne but then just before the
start of the Season his bags were packed
and he was on his way to Avenger Park so
South Melbourne’s loss has definitely
been aend dal’s game this season have
you seen Cuba’s first year for the
Avengers he the perfect Avendale play
really mobile quick um can finish
aggressive you know that’s the type of
midfielder Abend looks for here’s kadak
po SE with it across the face looking
for Adam but it’s cleared
away go getting a lot of joy down this
right hand side especially D kako when
he can get him behind with his
speed
Zin just Waits and assesses his options
and feeds YF
Ahmed ahed cuts inside on his right he
gets the shot it’s
blocked
hubba does well to keep the ball under
control cuts it on his right San
Cuba and just past the back
post first warning shot five there from
The Avengers and you can’t afford to
give cuber any sort of space in that
sort of area I would have been
disappointed to to concede like that you
know they first couple of blocks it was
great defending but you can’t you can’t
give him a space I like to
shoot Yan Cuba such a key part of that
Alona side that
finished just ahead of green galy on the
standings last year to secure six spot
on the ladder part of that Fleet footed
attack with the likes of Jonas markovski
and his brother Josh Rob
Harding Ashton alalia who’s out for the
season as well another absentee for
green gy
today suffering an ACL injury in
training so when it rains at Paws it
seems at times when things are going
badly for your Club
couple players we haven’t seen much of
this season who are out of the match day
Squad Al together dalbor marovich and
adisu Bayou marovic did start the last
game as the ball almost finds US way
through to Adam but Manos coming off his
line and clearing it away first time
oneon-one here between Zin and Kooks
krooks does well and is able to negate
the presence of Stefan zini but
TB marovic did start the last game he’s
out of the squad entirely today adisu
was on the bench last week but he’s out
of the squad entirely so two plays who
have featured at the highest level in
the a league for a couple of Seasons not
in the green galy side today as kadak po
looking to get in between two plays kako
still going
players going down inside the box it was
tajo hit the tech and it’s a free kick
awarded to Avendale but Adolf kako has
been very bright early there’s a strong
physical presence out there
I think he’s probably the better option
to be playing down the center of the
attack and and Adam coming out wide but
kako he’s had a great start of the game
so a bit of concern here for Thomas
Manos who is down holding his leg and
the Avendale physio is out back up
goalkeeper May and Mayan is up and
warming up so a bit of a concern here
for Avendale if Thomas MOS can’t
continue he’s a tough cookie Thomas
Manos we know that it takes a lot for
him to
have to come out of a game we remember
on Grand final day suffering that heavy
knock and was able to continue and say
out the game thankfully for aend they
didn’t have a backup goalkeeper on that
occasion
but may mayen warming up on that Far
Side might be called upon if Manos can’t
continue has given the thumbs up Nick
he’s all
good good news for Avendale if Manos
is good to continue one of the Premier
goalkeepers in n Victoria and there’s
the thumbs up from the physio so false
alarm there for the Avendale
bench also on the bench today for

the bench for Avendale today compared to
six for green Gully J shama sheer armed

reach Zin and it’s out for a throw
in shout out to my favorite team manager
in the npl Ruben from graly I think he
needs to uh get his eyes check Nick
because green and white clashes a lot
less than this horrendous gray kit that
uh gre’s rolled out with
today very difficult to see especially
with the sun where it is at the moment
as well shocking every team that’s
decided to go for a gray way kit this
season football Victoria needs to ban
the color gray well don’t know if you
saw St Orbin last week what the the the
black numbers on the gray kits it was
also very difficult n have got the great
kit as well just
a poor look I reckon
you know me Nick I like to criticize
everything I see I was going to say
that’s number two on the markovic
manifesto after short Corners that need
to be banned
so that’s our number three turnovers
from your own throw
stand here’s Carpenter playing it short
to mes looking to build from Midfield
George mes into the team today with
Christian treski out it’s a hammer blow
to this Avendale team Christian chesy
one of the the best players in this
competitions to say the least as Ahmed
wins the free kick but we saw last week
he was on the end of
that horror Challenge from Jordan Smiley
of Danny dong Thunder Smiley was sent
off and received a hefty ban after the
game as
well and treski who I saw a little bit
earlier with crutches his season
effectively over now so a huge loss for
Avendale after you think about just how
key’s been to this side for so long yeah
what a what a bit of uh pill to swallow
for Christian as well you know fair
enough if it’s um you know an ACL or
something like that it’s just one of
those things but that injury is
completely
avoidable Ball’s floated into the area
and
it’s cleared by Crooks but it will be
coming
back especially on the eve of the the
pending second division not not the
ideal time to to suffer long-term
injuries either Christian would have
been one of the first players to uh be
penciled in for a contract in that
second division absolutely and I mean
you think about it last season
especially just how key he was when they
went for silverware in that Midfield
but hopefully by the time next year
rolls around we see him back out in the
pitch sooner rather than later such a
key play to this aend team but his
absence opens up the door for George mes
to really stamp himself in the starting
lineup at Avendale since coming across
from Port Melbourne in the midseason
window last year he only has sort of had
to settle for a bench
roll not a bad replacement to have
absolutely ball fed over the top looking
for Muhammad Adam foot race here with
deeno and he’s cross out towards the
back
post and it just deludes
Luca mammad Adams speed causing some
problems for Doo

possession I think very little has been
spoken about aend Dale’s uh production
line Nick you know the everyone talks
about the the stars in their team but
this season you know got Alek danino
varas has played a few games you know
there’s a lot of young players coming
through from the from their junior
system you know I know maybe four or
five years ago they really started to
invest into their junior program and you
know you see with their junior results
they’re um you know one of the best in
in Victoria so deciding to pay dividends
for for
him well interestingly enough you’re
probably looking at two of the terms of
jbm and and youth team results even
green gly they’re on the 23 team has
been absolutely flying this year so you
must wonder I mean there’s something
there’s something cooking down there in
the under 23s maybe some of those
players that have been playing well
reward for effort we know sheifer Red’s
in the squad today but Philip panuncio
as well has been in some really good
form for green galy in the 23s and you
just wonder it has to be a matter of
when not if especially get considering
how things have worked so far for gly
this year yeah coaches are scared to to
throw some of these youngsters into the
deep end but we’ve seen time and time
again you know the better ones tend to
flourish when when they’re given their
opportunity just mentioned Avendale
South mbour as well you a number of
their their junior products coming
through we’ve seen LCA College come
through the ranks at melbour Knights you
know you got to start somewhere and you
know if it’s not working for you week in
week out at at grealy and you’re under
23s are flying sometimes it’s better
have to look at some of those
youngsters well with that mid-season
window coming in a matter of well it’s
not weeks probably still another couple
months but there’ll be opportunities
potentially for them
to maybe drop down on division or go to
a team that’s maybe battling relegation
and look to get some senior football to
end the
year maybe just stick it out this year
but and if they do they will certainly
be on the radar of sides for next season
we see how many players come across from
the under 23s I mean some of these the
likes of daro and Adam elh especially
elhak he was part of that Avendale team
he spent some time at Western United’s
youth team and he’s come back and he’s
really stamped himself as a a very very
good player at this
level an injury to Dylan jakupi has open
up the door for him to stamp himself in
this team and deeno who spent some time
at Melbourne Victory as
well coming back to Avendale and good
see zor markovski trusting them and
giving them the opportunities I mean
we’ve seen it as well with South
Melbourne this year the likes of the
inaz brothers and Cooper half peny and
balong being the squad quite a bit this
season so the opportunities are there
for the youngsters even for the sides
competing for silver wear as here’s YF
armed cuts inside he shot just rolls
along the deck and it was an awkward one
in the ends but it’s out for a goal
kick they just goes to show how you know
zor Mar kovski and estan Quintas back
their their team and the way they play
and you know um are comfortable with
giving youngsters to
go hav’t seen Oakley as of late give a
few youngsters some opportunities Off
the Bench Roy Gregory and Luke Menin was
also on the bench
against St Orbin last week Luke bensin
of course the nephew of
Rick came on in the dying moment of the
last couple of games so good to see him
say chose it was almost a Specky there
from Blake Carpenter on the back of kako
and kako is just a little bit worse for
where there and we see him holding his
shoulder a little bit for Blake
Carpenter bit of inspiration there from
watching Jamie Elliott the other day I
think that was that was
something looks a bit a little bit like
Elliott doesn’t he yes here’s Ahmed
feeding
ker few step over from Kerr has a goal
on his left took a deflection
that was scrambling there

Adam just all blue shirts around him
just isolated up front there Mohammad
Adam got a lot of ability Mohammad Adam
but he’s a player that has shown his
best football is’s certainly in the wide
areas not necessarily leading the line
so as you mentioned Mark maybe shifting
him and Adolf kako might actually be the
best move just to make the most of kak’s
physicality against the much stronger
Avendale The Backs yeah probably got a
bit more Pace than cepa as
well so player down in the middle of the
park there for the avengeance YF armed
who was collected quite strongly
there plenty of action happening right
across both tiers
today over it

against Elona magic 1 n George Andrews
Reserve Danny Nong Thunder two n up
against s Orbin and at Petty to reserve
danong City taking a one-nil lead
against Manningham at the
moment big result if mland City can hang
on and win that game finally just
finally get their first points of the
Season it seemed like it was coming last
week they LED against heidleberg they
were also they had the scores level with
only a few minutes to go
but maybe some green shoots if they can
hang on and get a res against the magic
yeah maybe um you know came out on
Twitter and uh criticized how poor
they’ve been but since that they’ve uh
they’ve lifted their game they really
need three points today you know T of
magic at home that’s one that you think
that you know if they’re ever going to
get a win on the
board today’s the
day of course three games in vpl 1 today
all still nil nil Eastern Lions George
cross Melbourne Victor youth team
against bolene and North jalong against
Kingston City
so far so good for gry Nick half an hour
into the game they’ve been able to hold
firm and even frustrate avans a little
bit
just quite resilient defensively going
forward they’ve shown a little bit so
this is exactly the sort of resp
response that Steven DS and his coaching
staff would have been hoping for the
likes of Tim
TI they just want to hang in hang in the
game as long as it goes like we said
Avendale played extra time during the
week a lot of these players that are
playing today played in that game they

what can be done when you can frustrate

chance for Mohammad Adam in behind
that’s a good stop from
Manos and another warning sign for that
AAL defense great safe from
Manos but yeah Joe kabian his form for
um the M Victory us side when they got
promoted scor like 1 goals in npl to
back then and you know got recruited to
the Brisbane Roar as an attacker on the
back of
that I think on a scholarship deal as
well victory for a bit too and any sign
for aend where initially was a striker
and then a couple years ago it was Napp
is’s number six now so showing his
versatility with all those attacking
options he had to reinvent his game to
be able to really solidify himself in

flat you can put it down to the midweek
game I think you’re going to extra time

probably expected a bit of an easier
game and just run out of League just
yeah very um unlike Avendale performance
but credit to GRE gly though you know
excellent from start to
finish green gly getting a much needed
three points heading into a run of games
where they can really spark the second
half of their season they’re still a
long way to go for them if they to catch
the top six but this could be the start

now have to gear up for a Grand Final
