documented golf here at Dunbar with the
club being established in 1856 and of
course where are we we’re located on
Scotland’s Golf Coast look at this

Cen talks about there’s a certain thing
that Pete CN talks about with the trail
arm we’re going to discuss that but as
we do that we’re going to play a few
holes at dunar what a place VJ sing’s

it’s Open Championship qualifying final

down front left of the green how a nervy
one that was so yeah when the open was
here in 2013 I think it was 2013 open
was at mfield the final qualif for the
Open Championship was held here at
Dunbar that’s the class of golf course
we’re on today and as I mentioned we’re
on the Golf Coast Scotland’s Golf Coast
a place to be if we go left along this
way that takes us to North barck we’ve
got the Glenn Golf Club North berck and
then we move to gullen we’ve got gullen
1 2 3 before that we’ve got mirfield
Archer field Renaissance we continue
down the coast from there we get to Aber
lady where there’s Kendy Golf Club
craigy law golf club and then of course
we get to Long NRE Royal muscle bra
muscle bra and muscle bra old links and
it just continues all the way BAS
basically from Edinburgh to here okay 1

green 24 ft these greens are
quick these greens are quick I’m happy
with a par three here and move on
happy okay good course is
amazing okay so as mentioned Pete CN
Pete CN talks about the trail arm at the
top of the back swing the angle between
the trail arm and the lead arm
interesting so he talks about at the top
of the Swing most golfers most amateur
golfers get into a position at the top
here where the trail elbow flails out
and the angle between the lead forearm
and the trail forearm becomes
90° so at the top it’s here so the angle
between Trail arm and Lead arm is a 90°
angle that’s wrong it has to be
45° this Trail elbow needs pulled in and
that trail elbow gets pulled into a 45°
angle between lead arm and Trail arm
what also happens there when that’s
pulled in like so and the angle now
becomes 45° the club shaft’s in between
the two so we’ve St started the club on
45° we’ve moved up to 45° and the angle
between those arms is there now for me
that is Hogan stuff and when I say
that’s Hogan stuff I’m talking about
connection between Trail arm and Trail
hip
brilliant who’s this guy Hogan’s a dress
position had his elbows pointing towards
the pelvis or the hip bones of each so
right elbow towards right hip left elbow
to left hip so in there like so and that
connects at the top when that trail
forearm is
vertical when that trail forearm is
vertical the right elbow still points to
the right hip so there brilliant now for
me also that right elbow gets tucked in
so therefore it bows the lead wrist so
it’s much easier to come back down from
the inside with a face that’s much
squarer less chance of going out there
I’m going to continue with this hole
we’ll keep this steam going
so Trail elbow at the top being in that
vertical position that is Hogan stuff
that for me means
compression that relationship between
right elbow and right hip means
compression Hogan
style

so connection between right forearm and
right hip they

talked about right elbow is glued to the
right hip then glued to the left hip so
that transfer of connection between
right elbow and right hip Trail elbow
and Trail hip so so effectively in there
that connection then gets delivered to
the left H left elbow lead elbow and
Lead hip through
impact that’s how Hogan felt the golf
swing and up at the top there Pete
cowen’s talking about this elbow being
in he doesn’t want that 90° he wants 45°
there and now you can see the shaft
dissects right in between the two
fantastic what did Jord speed do
something similar we’ll get on to that
in a minute right 9

so before I teed off today I met four
men in the clubhouse from Stockholm they
just played here today flew into
Edinburgh so they flew into Edinburgh
airport which is maybe what 3/4 of an
hour from here in fact it’s probably
less than that it’s probably about half
an hour if you’re lucky and they played
the Glen so they played Four courses on
the Golf Coast they played The Glenn
they played K spendy they played Cy law
tomorrow Dunbar today and they’ve also
played one other gullen Gull number two
they said Dunbar has the best
weather and the best greens to be fair
they said all the greens were good okay
I’m hitting two iron we’re on whole
number
six par 4 2 an lyx Runner spe we need to
talk about spe what does spe do in
relation to Pete Cowen and Ben Hogan
that is absolutely
nailed that that’s that’s the best I
have that’s
it you look at spe Jordan spe has a
funky practice swing the Jordan’s
practice swing it looks as though he’s
way over the line he’s doing all sorts
of funky stuff to try and feel something
working for him and what he’s doing is
he’s trying to keep both elbows as close
together as possible cowen’s talking
about that Hogan’s talking about that to
that Hogan’s also talking about elbows
together at a dress and keeping them
together as close as possible for the
whole swing spe is now in there elbows
close together and at the top he’s not
at 90° he’s at 45 or slightly less cuz
he’s keeping the elbows as close
together as possible much more
connection and what does that do it
keeps his hands in front of his
body this is a classic Scottish links
move one Fairway there one Fairway here
and a bunker right in the middle that’s
very much like St Andrews if you’ve
played the old course of St Andrews you
can go left all day left of you there’s
always another hole but what divides the
holes it’s not rough pop bunkers things
like that and that nightmare okay we’re
in a very good spot here
1077 yards I’m going to take a pitching
wedge which goes 140 and just try and
smooth one in there I’m going to keep
keep my right elbow close to my right
side and smooth in a little 107 pitching
wedge from
here left is long oh missed the
green so came over it a little bit and
also I find that when I do take
something off it slightly I do end up
left I should have just Tak my fif day
and fully committed to it wow probably
won’t be surprised to hear that I will
lose zero sleep over
that
wow sprinkler head so I’ve brought my
eight iron and my
putter so Links Golf in Scotland there’s
a lot of little quirky Hollows and nles
to go through so I I’ve got my eight tie
I’m keeping the ball
low and it’s almost just a putt with an
eight iron just to get above the the
level of the grass to get it
going oh it’s done well isn’t it what a
touch that was a lot harder than it
looked believe
me wake up yes that’s a good four that’s
actually a crap four cuz I missed the
Green from nowhere but it was a great up
and down you’ve got to be very creative
look at the size of this green this
green must be must be 60 yards
long so good driver left myself 140
guess what 9 that winds now around the
corner
here that 140 is definitely playing a
150
did I take less I think I think it kicks
down there so I think if I can Punchy
hookie 9on kind of low and get it
moving like that that’s all over it we
dry
one that is H that’s highly exciting
when you pull off the shot you’ve uh
just described you know it’s amazing
when you put it out there tell yourself
and people what’s going to happen and
you execute it just makes it all
worthwhile such a good
feeling yeah I knew that shot was
good here we

Steve it’s a touch off the right moved
more than I
expected
ah just a world of pars
so we have Pete Cen top of the Swing
there right arm right forearm vertical
that puts the right elbow Trail elbow in
which also encourages that lead wrist to
Bow slightly which closes the face we
don’t want the cupping there’s great
we’ve got Hogan who talks about Trail
elbow and Trail hip connection same
thing there’s there’s a relationship
there between the hip and the elbow they
not touching but it’s a relationship
Hogan talked about how they touch on the
way down and touched on the way through
and I think that was very much a
feeling but that connection is there
that relationship is there which is the
same as what Pete C was talking about
Jordan spe wants his hands in front of
his body so much more rotational action
there so therefore it’s pivot driven
swing so the body is working but if his
hands are in front of his body he must
be elbows close together like Hogan
therefore the trail elbow points to the
ground at top of the back swing that is
so productive that is a solid solid golf
swingers all these pieces are built to
work together and if you do that they
will or there’s certainly more chance of
them working together if you get that
vertical elbow or vertical forearm on
the back
swing so you just address the ball and
just just visualize that feel that right
elbow almost internally rotating at the
top so there to deliver back to the ball
there it’s all feels and then step up
and try and recreate the feel like so
I mean that is
absolutely flying up
there straightest Drive I’ve ever
hit I’m serious that was straight you
know what I’ll put shot tracer on it let
you see it again okay here we
go I mean that is
absolutely flying up
there see told you
it’s a very good drive left myself
middle of the Fairway this right
elbow that that drive there was thanks
to Jordan Ben and Pete my new three best
friends because I felt as though the
elbow was more in here but even though
it’s not where I want it to be if it’s
not exactly where I want it to be but I
feel as though it’s more in than it was
before then I’m on the right track if I
feel as I’m at 90° or I don’t feel
anything I’ve got this 90° angle between
the two then I’m wrong if I feel as it’s
tucked in a little bit but I’m somewhere
between the 45 and the 90 around about
70 that’s fine because it’s progression
in the right direction so that feeling
of A change is something better so if it
feels uncomfortable you’re doing
something right okay so I reckon I had
what 82 yards did I see that 82 I’ve got
my 50° wedge here just a little smoothie
in
there oh it’s on a great line come down
stay there
was pretty good it was pretty good just
jumped a little bit through the back one

wow that these greens are so quick that
got away from

course I absolutely love that about
Link’s golf you think you’ve got it if
you saw my previous video at the Glen
Golf Club on the Golf Coast you’ll
notice I struggled with the greens today
it’s very similar I grew up here I
should have these nailed
so just have to feel that feel
that and if it feels different than
normal you’re on the right track
okay it’s a par five that is just to the
right yeah shot right bunker to over I
was never going to reach into to there’s
the green I’m just shot right of that
bunker on the right side there what a
great hole so I have options here I
could run this left of the bunker quite
a hard shot because we’re back into the
breeze I’m going to using some
loft is not so much a shot I prefer
playing but it’s keeping it as simple as
possible just let the weight of the club
head do the job so let gravity do
it hope it carries it’s done
well I could have carried that a little
bit
further the wind stalled it so it
stopped pretty quickly so done bar off
the back teas is
6,597 y so that’s 1 2 3 4 5 15 ft so
that’s 6,600 Y which is not long
actually that’s the perfect length of a
golf course for me now when the wind
blows that is way over 7,000 yard I mean
the greens are quick it’s very very
tough this Green’s 60 yard long so you
can imagine how hard this course gets
when the wind
blows 15 ft it’s birdday time
oh
what these are so slick so 6,600 Ys it’s
the perfect number and that’s right off
the back end so of course the yellow
te’s are a little bit more
gentle today I’m just mixing and
matching so it’s not short it’s perfect
it’s tough it’s tougher than the wind
tough without the wind it’s just a
fantastic Golf Course
done bar wow so Hogan had a wedge drill
Pete Cowen talked about this he’s not
told us how to get there he’s not told
us the exact motion or action which they
create he’s just told us that’s the
position that most tour players are in
totally agree with it Hogan explains
that he would do a little drill where
the right elbow would touch the right
hip and the left elbow would touch the
left hip so he would take the club back
keeping the upper arms as tight to the
body as possible and elbows as close
together so tucked under tucked under
elbows close together facing out to the
sky elbows to the hipbone hipbone and
then from there just hit shots there’s
no disconnection between the upper arm
and upper body now obviously when that
happens and we get to here there’s a
relationship created a very close
relationship between right hip and right
elbow and if that were to continue
further up of course this is now going
to be in a vertical position so hitting
lots of little shots keeping those upper
arms attached to your body to feel how
Hogan felt you can see there that that
is now 45° between lead arm and Trail
arm right elbow speaking to right hip
and look at this lead wrist it’s bored
it’s a little bit bored it’s not CED
because the right elbow’s flailed when
the right elbow flails out there lots of
strange things happen it’s disconnection
it’s that disconnection that Jordan spe
is trying to avoid I got my spe hat on
today that’s
just the only hat that was in the car
sorry
Wilson I don’t even know what hole we’re
on do you know that it’s the 10th so
we’ve played nine holes okay we’re level
par through nine no we’re not we’re one
under but you guys never saw the bir so
I hope you’ve enjoyed that I hope you
understand the Hogan the CN and the spe
situation we got ourselves into today
practice that make it feel different if
it feels different you’re on the right
track I’m going to continue playing now
so I’ll film a few shots you’ll get a
bit more soon of dunar so the next 5
minutes or so is the back nine at Dunbar

front 9 N arm was 120 to 140 that was
166 so
170 downwind 9 iron so that’s just Links

120 to 166 probably 185 9 iron 120 to
185 so 65 yard difference in 9 iron
because of the wind and this is a day
with no
wind it’s a day I would class with very
little
wind that felt

    Question, if I may, and you may have covered this in an previous video and I’ve forgotten; but on the greens, I get that you’re pacing out the putts for distance, but how is your ratio calculated?

    I take it with each distance you have an approximate putting stroke length and speed for these distances. It fascinates me coz I’m jealous of your maths 😂😂😂😂
