so you are most likely stuck and I say
that because whenever I meet somebody
who comes through that door for lessons
or whether they reach out for help
online they often have the same problems
they’re stuck in the downswing position
and the thing that you don’t realize
that will actually help you resolve this
stuck position is very much in the back
swing and the thing that you don’t
realize is how much you need to allow
your lower body to move towards your
Trail side in the back swing so what
happens with most amaters and I’m going
to use a bit of an alignment stick here
uh to help you sort of visually see this
so as I kind of get this alignment stick
through my my uh my belt loops right
what what you want to do in the back
swing position is get the feeling of
moving the pelvis in towards your Trail
leg okay so as I’m demonstrating like
this this is the correct rotation what
happens with most amers is they move
everything they move the whole hips and
everything so I’m trying to focus on
turning my pelvis into my leg so I’m not
saying the hip joints Etc aren’t moving
but what I’m trying to say is that’s the
feeling that I’m trying to have and you
can see when I execute this how quiet my
lower body action is as opposed to most
amateurs move everything the hips the
right hip the left hip comes forward
it’s excessive motion now the problem is
is when you move like this you’ve got
one you’ve got loads of rotation so you
can see how much the alignment sticks
moved which makes it impossible to get
the hips clear in the start of the
downswing but the other problem is is
when you move like this is you’re not
shifting enough weight to the right see
this is where most amers are if I move
the pelvis more to the right it tidies
up the leg movement and from here it’s
so easy if your weight you can practice
this right turn back okay so you feel
like some weight is on your left toe in
the top of the back swing okay and then
try to open up your hips it’s really
hard move your weight in towards your
Trail side and feel how easy it is
because you think about it logically
right if I swing up to my top top of my
back swing my weights on my right side
and then from here you see as I open how
easy it is to momentarily open my hips
and then my weight very quickly can
shift back into my left okay so I’m not
saying it’s 100% on the right side but
you understand what I’m trying to say so
a good way to do this is if you uh hold
alignment stick uh pretty much over your
toe line right as I’m sort of going to
demonstrate here if I turn correctly you
can see how much my left knee comes
inward so if you’re somebody whose left
knee comes way out then you’re not
pivoting correctly and try and work on
the feeling of allowing your pelvis to
move more towards your right side this
will give you better tilt give you
better angles but it also makes the
pelvis really easy to open in the start
of the down swing position and that’s
why you need to work on him I’ll see you

  1. I understand this move and it’s something that I try to implement as I get stuck on the way down, always have and become very flicky at the bottom but no matter how hard I try I can’t get it right!

  2. I don't see a difference between the hips and the pelvis when I do the movement? Also, how does this work, as we are supposed to have a weight distribution of 60% on the left foot in the set-up and now we have to move the weight to the right foot? Confusing, please help…
