A suspect was shot by officers on Monday after reportedly pointing a gun at law enforcement during an arrest attempt on Belle Isle. According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect failed to appear in court on a criminal sexual conduct charge. Since the suspect was on a tether, the sheriff’s office tether unit tracked him to a wooded swampy area behind the golf course along the canal, officials say.

Sarah Alicia I was just able to speak to
law enforcement and they tell me that
all of this started when a local man
didn’t show up to court this morning
they then tracked his GPS tether and it
led them to right here on Bell Isle law
enforcement telling me that once they
got here they found that that man walked
behind this black fence right here and
over into the swampy area now they say
when they found him he turned around and
he fired a gun at them or no he pointed
a gun at them law enforcement then say
that they fired in self-defense and he
fell into the water they were able to
get him out of the water and take him to
a local hospital where he is now in
serious condition here’s what law
enforcement has to say about the moment
that they found that suspect here the
subject was seated uh at the water side
when the officer is approaching called
out his name he turned and uh with a 9mm
long gun it appears to be a 9mm long gun
pointed at the officers and they fired
in defense of
themselves law enforcement also saying
that no officer were hurt but that
suspect once again in the hospital in
serious condition they’re going to keep
