Thank you for watching this HowDidiDo Academy video on what to consider when building your golf bag for the competition season.

here at the how did I do Academy we want
you to be ready for your rounds of golf
your competitive rounds of golf I’m
going to talk you through what I have in
the bag in order for me to play some
good golf check it
[Music]
out I think this is a great way to start
get your golf bag and empty it out onto
the floor just to see how much stuff you
have in here because I can guarantee
you’re probably carrying way more than
you actually
need I’m going to start with the golf
clubs 14 clubs I carry I have quite a
stable bag I don’t often switch a hybrid
out for a fivewood or a wedge but my
clubs are always cleaned the grips are
always fresh I always believe that if
your your clubs are clean you look after
your clubs they’ll look after you I
always carry a water bottle with me to
stay hydrated on the golf course
I’m not really into having any energy
drinks I just keep it to water in terms
of golf gloves I carry a rain glove no
matter what being in England living in
Manchester the chances are it might
start sunny but it won’t stay that way
so I’m prepared for the worst and I
think this is what this video is all
about it’s about the preparation I keep
my gloves in their plastic they keep
looking after them in their in their
covers that keeps them in better
condition you can see there the
umbrella now I try and find the lightest
umbrella I can because the chances are
I’m always going to have it with me
because of this weather moving into the
pitchforks I carry a pitchfork with just
one fork actually there’s no two forks
to that so I’ve carry one of those and
ball marker wise I’ve got a small ball
marker and a big ball marker now what
you can gain from this is you can use
your poker chip when you’re miles away
from the hole and nobody’s there but as
you start getting closer if you put that
poker chip down it might annoy your
playing Partners so I always carry a
coin to mark from close range when it
comes to gol te’s I find you either have
too many or too little and there’s loads
of broken ones in your bag so try and
clear it out what I put in my pocket is
I only have a handful of te’s I never
have too many or too little ball marking
I play prov1 X if you notice there some
of them are marked some of them are not
and the numbers are different cuz
there’s nothing worse than marking all
of your golf balls hitting a Prov
v1x and it’s a number one marked the way
you always do it and then pulling out a
provisional and it’s another Prov v1x
one with the same markings so carry
different numbers and also carry your
marker pens in order to change it up if
by coincidence you mark the ball the
same as your playing Partners another
thing that I find more in my washing
machine than in my golf bag are pencils
I always put my pencil in my right
pocket and my te’s in my left so the
amount of times I forget and they end up
in the washing machine pencils are key
hopefully you’ve got ones with a rubber
on however that’s the one thing I’m
terrible at making sure I’ve got in my
golf bag is pencils and when you’re play
in a competition you got the scorecard
in your hand the last thing you need to
say to your playing Partners is anybody
got a pencil or having to pay 20p for
one in the Pro Shop another obvious
thing is waterproofs or something warm
if you’re starting in the afternoon at
golf it might get cooler towards the end
of the day so make sure you’re prepared
for that going into some things that
might be a little bit different you can
notice that I’ve got a toothbrush there
I like that to clean my grooves
especially on my wedges to make sure
that my spin is maintained a towel I’ll
wet one side of the towel so I can clean
my clubs with that and keep the other
side dry lip balm I find quite important
it’s not just girls that need to wear
lip balm if you’re out in the elements
for a good 4 hours it’s important to to
get some lip balm so you don’t get your
lips burnt or dry and that lasts for a
few days so it’s really annoying if you
ever get caught out in that department I
use a bushel a Laser Rangefinder in
order to get my yardages the biggest
peeve I have with that or when I play
with people on the course when they go
have you got any batteries I’ve run out
of battery that device is totally
useless to you if it’s not got batteries
in it so make sure that you carry some
spare batteries and that moves me on to
the
valuables pocket that you need in your
golf bag highlight a valuable pocket
where you put your keys your wallet your
batteries and never change it because
there’s nothing worse than being out on
the golf course and being thinking where
did I put my phone where did I put my
keys that anxiety means that you won’t
be able to concentrate on your golf at
all I always keep my alignment sticks
with me I find that um if I’m warming up
in the net I like to put them down just
to check my alignment and it’s also
where I tend to put my towel hang it
over and my putter cover so they’ll just
stay with me for anytime I need to do a
range session before I go out to play
and I wear a cap I’ve got long hair so I
like to tie it back I don’t like the sun
in my eyes and the brim actually helps
me concentrate when lining up puts and
finally the golf bag I always have a
waterproof golf bag for obvious reasons
like I’ve been saying already in this
video I’m a person that does like to
carry more than trolley but I totally
understand if um you play on a hilly
Golf Course or you’re playing 36 holes a
day Etc then you want to have a trolley
bag I probably would do that if it was
raining but most of the time I have a
carry bag because it fits in my car so
there’s a practicality to that and
there’s just something about carrying
your bag that makes me feel like I’m a
little bit more into the round of golf
rather than worrying about where my
trolley is going this is what I carry in
my golf bag I try and keep it
streamlined efficient so I can find
stuff which hopefully means that when
I’m on the golf course that means my
golf is efficient also if I’ve missed
anything make sure you comment below I
try not to be superstitious because that
is a huge problem in golf so when it
comes to superstitions I try and put
them to one side but if you’ve got
anything make sure you comment below
thanks for watching once again and I
hope this has helped you prepare for
your competition golf my name’s Sophie
Walker this is the how did I do Academy
and thank you all for watching

  1. Hi Sophie. You mention in the video about your golf club grips ? How often should they be redone and how do i know ? Thanks Frankie

  2. Great video! I was inspired to prepare my bag for the upcoming season. Here's something you might consider – some tape in case a blister or hot spot becomes a concern. Thanks!
