I was able to take my student from this
to this in just one hour here at the
golf projects he came to see me really
suffering with the hooks and now and
again getting the blocks with the longer
clubs those slices taking place as well
and all we did was this one simple drill
that we started to build up in stages
that was able to get in more distance
more accuracy much better ball striking
with his eyes so if you’re new to the
channel and this is one of your first
videos of mine welcome my name is Harry
PJ go professional transforming golfers
worldwide down here at the golf projects
on skillist so why not hit the Subscribe
button so stay tuned to all the regular
content coming your way every Tuesday
and Friday and drop a comment down below
of a tips or drills video topic as well
that you’d like me to cover in a future
video so first off we noticed with my
student who came to see me he was
suffering quite a lot with the ball
striking and then once he got the
contact right they were going way left
and way to the right before we even
looked at the swing itself he was St a
little bit too close to the golf ball
and this is going to limit the amount of
turn that we can generate the amount of
room we can create through the Impact
Zone and make solid contact with that
golf ball so first things first just
with the setup I just got my students
standing a little bit further away from
the golf ball I got Sam standing a
little bit further away from the golf
ball feeling of around one to two Ines
further away just that little bit more
room was able to help improve the strike
straight away once we got Sam used to
this we then started to look into the
first part of the goal swing so the
first part of the goal swing being the
takeaway now because he was too close
the ball in the first place the tendency
that he had was to take his lead arm his
left arm in the GOL swing and push the
left arm out in front of us like this
here just to create a bit more room a
bit more space with the arms as we make
her way into the back swing now just
taking a look at the video on the right
hand side of the screen here now what
you’ll notice is that as this lead arm
pushes away from the body to create more
room because we’ve limited this room at
setup just by standing standing a bit
too close the club then wants to travel
way too far on the inside and we tend to
see a lot of movement taking place with
the wrists rolling them over on the
inside like this here and we can see
there straight away that opens up the
club face massively so the Leading Edge
to the club face this part here was
pointing directly pretty much so to the
ground if not even more so on an angle
like this here well if I take this back
swing now and I do this same motion what
am I doing with my wrist here as I push
my lead arm out in front of me the lead
arms pushing out in front of me clubs
wanting to roll on the inside opening up
that club face so if I did this action
here this what we call extension this
twisting movement at the wrist here to
roll roll the wrist back into that
position that we were just doing there
it promotes an open Club face on the way
back so whatever we do in the down swing
we’re always going to try and recover
from doing this action on the takeaway
so when we have a look at the down swing
now you’ll notice that when we get to
this point here we’ll make quite a long
back swing and then we’ll push the arms
out in front of us to begin that
downswing now a lot of you already know
this 99.9% of you if not 100% of you
golfers watching this already know that
the down swing doesn’t start from the
upper body so what we were noticing here
was because we were opening up the club
face getting that too bigger swing we
then had to push the hands out to try
and square the club face up on the
downswing if we just allowed the lower
body to turn the club face going to come
down like this here with the huzzle
leading the race and this is why we also
noticed a couple of the huzzle strikes
in there as well to begin with so the
first thing we wanted to look at helping
some was how we can control this
movement taking the club back how can we
take the wrist out of that golf swing
completely so first things first was
take an alignment stick and we’re just
going to place this alignment stick on
the lead side of the grip so the left
side of the grip as a right-handed
player with the majority of the stick
hanging away from us now when we come to
setting up we just want to be making
sure that we’re gripping this club a
little bit tighter just to make sure the
alignment stick doesn’t move too much
during the the swing but the alignment
stick itself is going to be touching
this left side of the body so I set up
to this golf ball here now with this
alignment stick touching the left side
of the body the idea with this is that
we’ve got to keep this alignment stick
touching the left side of the body up
until what we call P1 position in the
golf swing the first part of the golf
swing so here the club shaft itself is
just to a point before it reaches
parallel to the ground now we just
rehearse this drill here just taking the
club back just to this point here trying
to keep the alignment stick touching the
body just because as soon as we get to
position two with the CL reaches
parallel to the ground the alignment
stick should naturally move away from
the body like this here so all we did
just to begin with was taking this
alignment stick and taking the club back
all the way up to that P1 position in
the golf swim because if we do the
opposite stand a little bit too close
for example and then push this lead arm
out out in front of us rolling the wrist
on the inside causing the club to move
on the inside look what happens to that
Aline M stick here it moves massively
away from the body just like this here
look at that opens up the club face so
keeping this align stick touching the
lead side of the body and taking the
club back just to position one in the
GOL swing and just as a good indicat of
where the club is going we also used
another align stick and just placed it
about a foot behind the golf ball down
facing directly towards the target line
like
so and then setting up with the idea of
as we’re keeping this alignment stick
touching the lead side of the body this
clob is going over the alignment stick
on the ground and that’s just to help
you control that movement there that was
to help Sam control that movement rather
than pushing the hands way too far out
in front of us the last thing we want to
do is go the complete opposite and push
them well on the outside so just to
begin with once we got used to doing
this movement at least 10 to 20 times we
took this align stick away from us just
place it to the side and we just started
hitting a couple of Chip shots just
getting used to the rhythm of this back
and forth so I got him to take a
slightly narrower stance Still Standing
that little bit further away from the
golf ball but just the feeling of back
and forth just to begin with just
keeping those hands and arms nice and
controlled and still taking the club
back to that P1
position and then just chipping through
like so and one of the bonus tips that I
got Sam doing was that as we made our
way into setup here and we took the club
back to this point here we just
encourage the feeling of the hands
moving towards this left hip here as
that left hip is turning round and
through like so keeping this solid angle
that we’ve created on the way back to
this point here so on the way back to
this point here keeping the solid angle
hands moving
towards the left
hip as we make our way through to finish
and we can see there the difference in
the club face angle there little bit
open on the way through as opposed to
getting those wrists involved like so
the idea with this was to help control
that club face on the back swing and
down swing so we’ve controlled the club
face on the way back but we don’t want
to be reacting and over rotating the
club face on the way through so to begin
with once we started doing this we
noticed a couple of shots go too far to
the left and that was just because if
we’re so used to doing this action on
the way back we’re going to always react
and do the opposite on the down swing so
as soon as we control this club face on
the way back and close down the club
face well the club the ball is going to
go a little bit further left than usual
so just that bonus tip there for Sam
just really helped him get that club
face control continuing throughout the
down swing then all the way through to
that finished position on those chip
shots so we did a couple of those just
getting used to this and building it up
in stages then we began doing a couple
of pitch shots just taking the club back
to warmer where the lead arm reaches
parallel to the ground then swinging
through and still finishing off in this
position here as opposed to allowing the
hands and arms to fold round and that
was just Solly because again just to
allow this club face to stay in control
on the way through keeping them nice and
ahead but a couple of times I noticed
Sam just try really hard to get the
hands going ahead like so now the
problem with the hands going ahead
towards the target is that when we start
hitting a few shots it actually pushes
the club out and away from the body and
if we push the club out and away from
the body rather than hitting those
Center strikes here we going to notice
some of those huzzle strikes instead so
then building this up we just made sure
that when we made our back swings up to
this point here once we got to that
point everything else takes care of
itself in the back swing up to here the
hands now are really going left towards
the wall behind us so the hands are
going towards that left hip as we turn
and get our chest to face towards the
target keep in that position the feeling
of that same position that we created
just at this point here the P1 position
so up to the
top and through like so and we started
to notice a couple of nice little Fades
just like that one there it doesn’t
quite look like a fade that does it but
you can see just from the shadow that
was definitely a fade then building this
into full swings we noticed that when he
was getting the full swings the back
swing was excellent but because we’ve
been so used to rolling on the inside
and then pushing the club back out in
front of us almost on plane but in the
wrong way what do you think is going to
happen as soon as we get the club on
plane here we’re going to be more
inclined to push the club even further
out in front of us so we’re getting this
club face controller noticing a lot of
the golf shots starting left and staying
in that direction so we completely took
the curvature out of the golf shop which
was great that was a great indication
that the club was staying nice and in
control throughout that golf swing what
we had to do now was have a look at the
swing path so the next part of the drill
was just adding in a little movement on
the downswing just to help him get this
club to work as the feeling of more
under the plane as opposed to pushing
the club over the plane now I mentioned
briefly before that the down swing
should start from the lower body
absolutely but just to help Sam we just
got him feeling that once he got to the
top of his swing his hands were just
going to relax his arms were going to
relax and just get those hands Falling
Towards the right foot just up until the
club reaches parallel to ground in this
position here and you can see from this
camera angle now the club’s quite far on
the inside but it’s in this controlled
set position with the wrist it’s not
cuted and open like this the GX golf
glove logo is pointing more towards the
ground just like this here and then from
there we could rotate with the feeling
of the hands working towards that left
foot all the way through to finish again
now just before I show you the training
aid that we use just to help him really
get this path working on the inside I
just want to quickly give a nice shout
out to GX golf the sponsorship to this
YouTube channel massive thank you to
them for providing me with high quality
premium golf gloves they are brilliant
great quality I’ve been using them now
for 6 to seven weeks I’m really
impressed with the quality this is the
first glove I’ve been using and I’ve
played quite a few rounds of golf since
with this as well here in the indoor
golf facility so very very impressed
them so if you’re looking for high
premium golf clubes for a fraction of
the price in comparison to those on the
market I’d highly recommend using my
discount code Harry 10 and having a look
at getting yourself one of these GX golf
gloves so the training aid that we used
for this next step just to help
encourage Sam the feeling of getting the
club working more under plane as opposed
to over playe was getting an alarm stick
but using the swing plate and we set the
swing plate on the exact same angle as
the club shaft at the address position
just ever so slightly behind the line of
where the golf ball would be and this
was going to encourage him as we made
our way into the top of the golf swing
just to really get that sensation of the
club working very much so under plane as
opposed to over plane so here’s the
setup that we finished off with just for
this final part getting that path
working more into W so we just got the
feeling of just get that set there
that’s it excellent so this alignment
stick here just to help us take the club
back nice and straight and I mentioned
to him that he doesn’t need to worry
about this alignment stick on the way
back we should just get this club
working over that align stick working
away up to the top of the Swing now I
encouraged him just to get to this point
in the top of the golf swing and just
get that feeling of that there as the
top of the back swing position we don’t
want to go any further because we
noticed that even when he tried to get
to this position we set the club in a
lovely back swing position which wasn’t
too long nor too short so just doing
this here we’re taking the club back
over that align stick all the way up to
the top of the swing and then we
encourage the feeling of the hands
dropping to that right foot and the
club’s working under plane the key to
this part of the Swing here is just
ensuring that we’re delaying this body
turn just to make sure we’ve got the
hands and arms working this way as soon
as we get carried away and start adding
some speed to this as we start to try
and drop the hands and we turn those
hips very early and get those knees
working towards the golf ball we’re
going to end up hitting that alignment
stick and pushing the club out in front
of us and that’s going to massively
hinder the strike so just doing this all
in one motion well the steps first then
all in one motion take away working this
up to the top of the Swing then from
there we’ve got the hands just Falling
Towards the right foot final move is
chest working towards the target as the
hands turn towards that left hip and the
left hip
rotates away from the golf ball so left
hip and hands work together working away
from that golf ball so take a way up to
the top short to swing hands down
towards the right foot and then hands
and hips away from the Gulf bone and
from this position here we wanted to see
the hands start to hide behind the body
from this camera angle here as oppos the
club hiding behind the body before the
hands do here so this here no control
this move here way more control with the
eyes and any golf club in the back we
just started hitting a couple of shots
just building this
up in stages and we noticed a couple
draw like that a little bit but the
majority of them began starting going
much straighter in the golf swings
taking the club away just over the alme
stick hands falling under and turning
everything out the
way just like that one there so taking a
look again at the before video just here
on the screen
now in comparison to this video here you
can see a massive difference just taking
a look at the takeaway and then the top
of the back swing position which is much
better and then the down swing we notice
the club now working ever so slightly
under the right shoulder in this set
position here as we make a way down and
that’s textbook that is really really
good rather than getting the club going
over the right shoulder this way we see
it falling Down Under the right shoulder
and then turning and executing through
to hit that golf ball and we hit some
really really great straight shots at
the end and he was really impressed he
was really imp pleased and so was I for
him so I’d highly recommend giving this
a try and letting me know how you get on

  1. Excellent summation Harry about your session with one of your students. The initial video of your student appears that he almost has a Dustin Johnson backswing! Your student tips throughout this video have helped a lot in my re-analyzing my swing. Well Done Harry!
