hey guys what is up welcome back to the
channnel we got another golf ball review
today and this one is a brand new one
for the 2024 season um it’s a
continuation of a model that did
extremely well in my top 100 if you’ve
seen the title you know we are talking
about the brand new Callaway Chrome tour
brand new for the 2024 season let’s Dive
Right In
all right so yes uh you know as I said
before uh the Chrome soft was one of my
favorite golf balls I’ve ever tested on
the channel period um as far as from the
average swinger perspective 92 to 95 96
mph with a driver um I believe the cway
chrom soft was the best tour AAA Tour
ball on the market for that swing speed
period amazing numbers jumps off the
club good soft feel uh you name it it
actually made number 10 in my top 100 as
far as balls I’ve reviewed on the
channel um all of you who have watched
know I love it so when I found out that
they were coming out with the Chrome
tour to replace it I was a little
nervous because uh basically what id
heard was that Callaway had said hey you
know a lot of people didn’t like the
name soft it turned a lot of Pros away
they wanted something you know more uh
you know Tor like having that you know
forgiveness and that feel and that
workability and yada yada yada all the
stuff that is going to make it probably
not for the average swinger anymore so
I’m a little nervous about that as well
as the price point the price point now
uh is $55 a dozen which if you’re new to
the channel we’re about value here so uh
you know one of the things I actually
harped on the chrom soft was the fact
that it was 46 47 48 a dozen somewhere
in that range now that it’s gone up to
55 it’s not looking good I don’t know
how this golf Ball’s going to be able to
crack the top 10 and work its way into
the top 10 with a value score that low
uh but here’s what does save it in that
regard is that you can still buy three
of them and get a dozen for free so that
helps out a bunch so uh really this golf
ball is going to have to have some
pretty amazing numbers to to match what
the chrom soft did being in 10th place
so without further Ado let’s go a and
dive into the design of the golf ball
now look I have the uh the 360 triple
track version here as you can see I
actually like this golf ball a lot I
like the triple track Callaway has done
an absolutely incredible job over the
last couple years with just really
trying to hit every Market as far as you
know if you want to align your ball with
pictures like on the tp5 the Pix model
they do that now they have the the
triple track they have the 360 triple
track uh they have all kinds of limited
editions and fun things fun colors fun I
mean it’s just whatever type of golf
ball you want to play Callaway has it
covered period so here is of course like
I said this I have their their 360
triple track one love the look of it
love the feel of it it does kind of have
more of of a tour- likee feel it doesn’t
feel soft as the other one uh The dimple
pattern’s always really nice yeah
overall you know as far as the design of
a golf ball um this is this is a perfect
score I mean they they do everything you
would want to do it feels premium it
looks premium it has a nice good coat of
urethane on it uh they offer different
options they have fun options they have
you know more conservative options like
this is what you’d want so Callaway I
won’t spend a ton of time on it callway
knocks it out the park there let’s go
ahead and get into the putting green
let’s see how the chipping and putting
is around the green and then we’ll get
into the actual number numbers all right
so out on the putting green with the
Callaway Chrome tour first thing I
notied with my wedges is I cannot
believe how much good feedback there is
when you hit it really well it lets you
know and when you Mish hit it it is very
very apparent it’s almost obnoxious how
much it lets you know when you miss hit
it uh which is really good feedback is a
really important thing sometimes it’s
hard to tell with other golf balls not
the case here really great and then once
it comes off uh the golf ball actually
does have a little bit of stopping power
but for me it’s the right amount uh some
golf balls just spin so much that even
on chips they stop on a dime I’m not
really into that for me it’s more like I
want the golf ball to you know check up
a little and then just have a healthy
roll right toward the hole I don’t want
it bouncing left on me I don’t want it
bouncing right uh this golf ball covers
all of that to an amazing degree all
right now as far as the putter goes same
thing as the wedge it has a really
healthy amount of feedback uh when you
putt it and it’s off the center it has a
nice little click it feels buttery it
feels smooth has a really amazing roll
to go along with it as well and when you
m hit it you’re going to know it I mean
it’s going to if it’s off the toe it’s
off the inside a little bit maybe you
come up a little too high you hit the
bottom of it it’s going to be really
apparent with how it gives you that
feedback and you’re going to see it not
only with the feel but how the ball
rolls as well um it’s actually a really
healthy amount that I would enjoy this
is how I enjoy my golf ball to be around
the green this golf ball might be for
advanced players just because of that
feedback system uh there’s a lot of
two-piece golf balls out there that if
you Mish hit them they’re actually going
to give you pretty much the same role
and you know you’re only going to be
maybe a couple feet shorter than you
were going to be so that’s always what I
recommend to intermediate beginner
players take the Forgiveness take the
feedback but if you’re someone who’s
really good around the greens like you
know Advanced definitely Tor level
scratch golf you’re looking for
something this is exactly how I want my
golf ball to perform it doesn’t a
fantastic job all around whether you’re
chipping whether you’re putting uh I I
would say it’s it’s a five out of five
performance I’ll be honest uh haven’t
had a golf ball react like this on the
Green in a long long time um it’s just
it’s Unique it’s different so let’s get
inside let’s get to the numbers and
let’s uh see how those did hopefully it
can can piggyback off this because I was
super impressed with it around the green
all right so uh as far as the chipping
and the the putting really impressed
there uh really good consistency lot
more feedback than I would have expected
a lot more forgiveness than I would have
expected I’m really impressed there
that’s awesome uh so let’s Dive Right
into these numbers let’s start out with
the 50 yard pitch uh we’re just looking
at spin here and as you can see 803 uh
that’s a pretty darn good number now
that is rough just slightly higher than
I got with the tailor made speed soft
Inc sorry that that name for some reason
has but that’s only about 200 better
than that so most golf balls now will
spin on a 50- yard pitch pretty well uh
this one’s very consistent even on M
hits which I like to see so does the
ball spin will it stick a green with a
50 yard pitch absolutely as it should
it’s a Tor ball it’s a $55 dozen Tor
ball it should um so love to see that
let’s dive into the nine iron now uh
let’s start off of course with the uh
total distance here 12.8 12.6 uh those
numbers are actually really really good
I like to see that on your ball mph
speed
95.4 and that’s what I’m talking about
that was one of the things that uh I
really enjoyed about the first Callaway
chrom soft was that even with the the
short irons I got so much of a gain
usually that doesn’t happen usually Tor
balls are the opposite usually it’s uh
really bad numbers with the nine iron
okay numbers with the seven iron then
when you get into the hybrid and the
driver it cranks up and it really
performs well because the compression’s
harder but the fact that I’m still able
with short irons to get phenomenal
numbers I just love that about Callaway
that that’s the the Chrome soft SL
Chrome tour now specifically all right
so let’s get into the seven iron now uh
let’s start off by looking at the spin
number 5,880 now that is pretty low
actually uh which isn’t uncommon the
prov1 had around that number exactly too
so uh it seems pretty common to get that
with a Tor level golf ball it’s weird
that the two-piece and three-piece value
balls are spinning so much more on um
you know seven iron hits mid iron hits
in general uh that’s kind of interesting
but not bad there so
13.1 that is astronomically High um most
of my followers will know that that’s
that’s really really high uh but more on
that in a second uh it’s actually 7
miles an hour over my average so it’s
it’s very significant
157.5 on your uh total distance 156 .4
uh so it looks like it does have some
stopping power still and it launched
just a little bit high at
19.8 so with those numbers uh you know
that those numbers are just incredible
um now a lot of you might be like oh
well you got a new launch monitor you
know it’s going to be so when I got this
number initially I couldn’t believe how
I got some 115s 116s 117 was even in
there as well what was crazy about it
was I actually went ahead and went and
got my swing caddy just to verify and it
verified perfect like don’t get me wrong
I’ve learned how to hit the ball a
little bit better over the last couple
months but that’s insane to get that
type of response out of a tour ball from
a mid iron at least on this channel so
uh that’s astronomically High I loved
how the ball was coming off the club it
felt amazing it felt like it had a lot
of spring to it um and seeing all these
numbers across the board is just
incredible cuz it’s it’s so much I mean
if I had to nitpick it I’d say I
definitely would like a little bit more
spin uh I’d sacrifice two or three yards
if I could get a little bit more
stopping power but uh overall that’s
still really great uh let’s dive into
the five hybrid let’s see if that
continues on this starting off with the
spin we have
5,492 uh which you know compared to what
I used to do is extremely high but now
because I have the new launch monitor
that’s maybe in the middle that’s kind
of what the speed soft ink did too we’ll
have to find out now we’re again this
ball really jumps off the club both
metaphorically and literally 123 six on
your ball m per hour speed that’s just
incredible that’s probably the highest
I’ve ever had again it just jumped off
the club uh 178.6 total distance 1
77.2 uh so the ball has some stopping
power and also I mean that that’s
actually above what my normal five iron
would do uh my normal five iron would
probably be 170 175 so getting 177 is
definitely a boost and it’s obviously
because of that that
123 uh six ball m per hour speed so
again I mean those numbers are top tier
I mean I I think that’s two records
broken for ball speed so again am I
hitting the ball a little bit better
probably um you know working at a golf
course and being around Pros all the
time you learn a thing or two but uh
seeing those type of increases with a
ball you can just tell when a Ball’s
really coming off the club well and this
one definitely was but let’s hope it can
finalize it and keep it going into the
driver uh looking at the driver spin of
course we have
2,274 which is astronomically low low uh
that’s awesome 238.9 which isn’t in line
with my average but again new launch
monitor that’s distance is going to be
weird for a while but what’s really
impressive is the ball mile hour speed
143.6mm
old launch monitor um I think this one
might just detect roll a little bit
better but across the board I mean those
are exactly where I’d want them
143.6mm
the the cway Chrome tour now holds that
one so record-breaking ball speed with
uh the seven iron the five hybrid and
now the driver
that’s that’s pretty good you know I
mean I can’t imagine what else I’d want
all right so before I get into my final
thoughts I would like to talk about the
durability real quick uh put through the
whole ringer about 60 70 shots you know
chipped with things like that uh the
ball holds up very very well most of it
from what you can feel is pretty
pristine there is a scuff here where it
looks like I might have
hit maybe the bar maybe a tree I mean
you can tell it’s a pretty bad scuff I
mean it hit concrete or something I mean
it’s definitely bad enough but that’s
pretty normal so feeling the rest of the
golf ball it’s really darn good it
really cleans up well um I would say
it’s a 4 and a half or a five out of
five depending I’d have to do a little
more testing but it’s it’s topnotch
you’re going to be able to get to a
round some of you you know if if you
like to really squeeze the life out of
them you might get a round and a half as
long as you don’t lose it uh love that I
mean that that’s exactly what I would
want a golf ball to do especially a tour
golf ball that costs as much as this I
would expect it to be pristine all right
so in conclusion uh you know I said
coming into this review that the tour
was going to have to just absolutely
Blow Me Away uh increasing the price
point to $55 a dozen right there with
the prov1 I didn’t love that move just
because again value is one of the
biggest things I talk about on the
channel there’s so many golf balls you
can get that are a great value that
still will do pretty much 99% of what
other golf balls do if not better
sometimes so in order for the Chrome
tour to crack the top 10 and actually
even just maintain its spot in the top
100 uh it was going to have to improve
on a lot of things that the Chrome soft
uh didn’t have or already had excuse me
but then also add some things that it
didn’t have it was going to have to
really blow me away with design and
performance and you know metrics and all
that because at $55 a dozen it’s just
really hard for me to recommend a golf
ball but here’s the thing uh the Chrome
tour did all that uh it did all that to
a crazy high level coming in I I was
really super nervous I didn’t want them
to take my Chrome soft away I love the
chrom soft but adding the true feedback
firming it up just a little bit just
enough to where you can hear the
feedback a lot better the feel is a 100
times better it feels now like a a tore
ball it feels you know still soft but it
ain’t like soft and Squishy uh the feels
phenomenal nineiron performance
phenomenal it checks up with the 50 yard
pitch seven iron a new record for ball
speed five hybrid new record for ball
speed driver new record for ball speed
it absolutely jumps off the it’s insane
uh with all that being said okay so the
performance is all record-breaking it’s
all record setting uh durability is
almost perfect or near perfect uh around
the green checks every box what more do
you want from a golf ball I I I don’t
have like this is it if I was you know
to get you know one day good enough to
play on tour and someone was like Hey
which company do you want to sign with
I’d want to sign with this one 100% like
if it’s my own money you know I’m
looking for Value but if money was no
object do going to need all these golf
balls for free at this moment this is
what I would play 100% so since the golf
ball did all that I mean it came in it
it had better numbers it had a better
feel it had better green side control it
had it had everything across the board
so what that means is is that uh you
know and I’ve ran these numbers I’ve
I’ve tried it a couple different ways
this golf ball not only stays in the top
10 it’s actually going to go higher than
that and by higher than that I mean at
third place which which I know that
seems crazy that’s you know I never
imagined the chrom soft would be able to
improve on so many different levels to
get here but I have to give credit where
credits due I say that all the time if
if a golf ball whether I hate a company
even if Titus does something really
great I have to give him credit for it a
good golf ball is a good golf ball if it
performs it performs that’s what the
Chrome tour did for me and uh yes if it
wasn’t for the price point if the price
point was at $45 a dozen around that
it’d be number one it absolutely would
uh the value score on this ball hurt it
so bad that it pushed it to number three
really impressive I never imagined a
tour golf ball a AAA Tour golf ball
could make it to the top three I just
didn’t even really think it was possible
with the value score because the value
score would just knock it down so much
but yeah I mean if it if it had a better
value score by far it would be the best
golf ball in the channel so give it a
shot try it if you’re looking for a tour
level golf ball and you’re a swinger who
you know you only drive the ball about
250 260 really um as far as a faster
swinger I wouldn’t know but if you’re in
that that average realm weekend warrior
and you’re you’re good enough to have a
tour level golf ball you’re good enough
to work it a little bit and you’re good
enough to you know just want to see a
good performing golf ball and you don’t
really care about the money this is the
one period I’m not going to recommend
another one to you right now this has
blown me away so much I just can’t
imagine anything being better so until
we test more golf balls until we get
more in depth in 2024 Maybe that’ll
change a little bit but as of right now
I’m just still trying to wrap my head
around the performance of this golf ball
so as always guys keep watching to keep
saving and keep learning until next time

  1. I tried it and for me it just performed poorly on driver. It seemed extremely low in spin for me and some coworkers of mine. It would knuckleball and I’d just lose too much distance. I loved other aspects of it. Got 10,000rpm of spin with a 50 degree with it. But off the woods we deemed it unplayable with the spin.

  2. Maybe you should hit the old Chrome Soft with both monitors to rule out or in the possibility of swing improvement. AKA control group. Love the channel.

  3. I am curious why you don’t have a category for value/performance of 2 layer isometric balls and a value /performance category for 3+ layer urethane golf balls. That would be like for like and we are able to assess each ball within “like kind” category not being driven by cost as weighted assessments. I like the overall value assessment but am curious if that assessment might camouflage the best performance which might not be the best overall value.

  4. I hope there is some pushback against these crazy high golf ball prices. It’s getting ridiculous.

  5. I would hit this ball with your old monitor to see if you get the same numbers. That type of improvement seems a bit odd. One other thing, tour ball spin a lot and are harder to control dispersion. How was the dispersion with this ball?

  6. I would also play these all the time if Callaway sponsored me. I bought a dozen Jayllah JG 3X balls to try. You wouldn't like the design of the ball. The Pro said they are similar to the Inesis 900 I normally buy and the price is similar.

  7. That’s the ball I’m playing this year after my own testing. Love it from 100 yds in. Good review. Like your hat too. I used to golf there prior to the new owners when I lived about 15 min away.

  8. Everyone needs to check up for a second. Keep in mind, this is a lower compression tour ball, the biggest segment in golf balls. Competition includes:

    Titleist ProV1
    Bridgestone BX and BXS
    Taylormade TP5
    Mizuno RB Tour
    Vice Pro
    Snell MTB Prime
    Encore Elixir
    Maxfli Tour CG

All I’m saying there are lots of options here. Wait for more reviews before coming to a conclusion.

  9. really surprised to hear this top tier recommendation. i tried this ball today, and it sucked. it felt heavy on the club, the spin off the driver was insane, and distance was no better than a regular Qstar. sorry but my experience with this ball is very very different.

  10. Have you been able to juxtapose your monitor numbers with on course distances and performance. These numbers seem more responsible that the old monitor. Thanks

  11. That's quite the endorsement for this new ball, will give it a try as I currently use the Chrome Soft from time to time and it performs very well.

  12. Hi. Great review as always. This reminded me about your first review of the Chrome Soft.

I was a little surprised about your putting the OG Chrome Soft so high in your final 100-ball listing since it seemed to conflict a bit with your initial rating. My recollection was that you liked the Chrome Soft quite a bit, but that it really lacked forgiveness to the point of being pretty punishing on mis-hits.

With that in mind, I put the Chrome Soft on my list (yes, I'm an addict, so I have lists and notes and notes and notes 🙂) of balls to avoid for a while. I ALSO love the way it feels when I hit it right, but am holding off using it since it's so punishing. Can you possibly speak to this a bit?

Thanks as always for everything you do!

  13. Nick, did the higher compression seem to make any difference? I was worried that this ball wouldn’t suit a slower swing speed. The Chrome Soft is rated 75, I think, but not sure how much higher the Tour is.
