04:41 Pump Drill Recap

hello everybody Michael cman here and
welcome back to the channel today we are
going to cover a drill I have shot a
video on in the past but looking back on
my old videos the quality of them
weren’t amazing and also the sound
quality has improved a lot especially
with these mics I’m going to reshoot
this one it’s called the pum TR and it
is for golfers out there that want to
understand how to shallow the golf club
how to get their body rotating a little
bit better into impact and to get a
better strike to get a little bit more
sharling their iron shots as well so if
that sounds like you stick around we’re
going to be getting right into it just
after

this so once again thank you so much for
joining us on our Channel if you like
this video make sure you click the like
button below and also the Subscribe
button to keep up to date with all the
latest information but today we are
going to get into one of my favorite
drills which is called the pump drill so
as I was saying the pump drill is a
really good drill for golfers that tend
to come a little bit over the top uh for
that slicing style action it’s also good
for golfers to start to understand how
the body is supposed to act in the down
swing and how to get into a slightly
better impact position as well now you
can use this with any club wedges irons
Fairway Woods hybrids it’s a little bit
easier with kind of a mid iron so I
would recommend practicing it with a mid
iron to start with and progressing up
from there now what is the pump drill uh
and how do we do it so it’s a very
simple drill you can do this without any
training AIDS which is lovely and how we
do it is first and foremost we take our
setup in our golf swing and we put our
Golf Club as you can see here we just
flip it so it’s parallel to the ground
our lead hand is pretty much in line
with our left leg or our lead leg and
our Trail hand just on the outside of
our thigh grips it underneath and so you
can see from the Trail View here Club
straight down the target line or my feet
line got my normal grip in my right hand
or my trail hand is on the back por here
what we’re going to do from this
position is we’re going to stay in our
setup and we’re just going to rotate
into our back swing you notice how I
made a reasonable turn I’m not turning
as far as I possibly can we’re just 70
80° is pretty good and then from here
the main portion of this drill comes in
we are going to do pump so we’re going
to go one and as you can see when I pump
that club down my lower body starts to
rotate I shift my pressure into that
lead side so we’re going to go one
2 3 once we get that feeling then I’m
going to get you to get your golf club
get it back here and go one
two 3 so we’re going to get that exact
same feeling so we’ll just repeat that
arm across here Trail hand underneath
stay in your golf set up one 2 3 and as
you can see body’s rotating pressure
shifting we’re getting this golf club
into a nice position and when you’re
doing this get the understanding and
feeling what’s happening with this Trail
arm okay now once we mentioned before
what tends to happen with people that
slice the golf ball this Trail arm wants
to work this way so it wants to push it
outwards in this direction and now when
you do this drill it’s going to feel
like this is extremely natural that arm
stays into the side it’s going to be
nice and simple for you so let’s get
into some practice SNS up one
2 3 when you finish this golf swing as
you can see there we’re not trying to
hit it 100% we’re just hitting some nice
little pit shots down there some punt
shots so the practice swing once we’ve
done these pump drills and once we’ve
got our normal grip and we go one two
three you’re going to notice that the
body’s rotated the arms are out in front
of us and that club is extended towards
the Target and that’s going to be as far
as you swing the golf club so let’s hit
a shot let me show you how it’s done so
we set up
one 2 3 nice and simple take your grip I
mean if you want to reset it that’s fine
as well bang one
2 three now I probably went a little bit
longer on that follow through than I
would have liked got a little bit
excited on that shot ended up pretty
nice but as you can see from that
movement pattern I’m trying to mimic
that feeling as much as I can from that
pump drill and it’s a very effective
easy way for us to get into those impact
positions where the body’s rotating the
club’s definitely not moving out in
front of us and we’re getting our hands
kind of leading in front as well so
we’re getting a really good impact
position also so let me just go through
that again we’re going to take our
setup going to one 2 3 perfect got my
feeling of that now I’ve regripped I’ve
got my setup again we’re going to go one
two
three turn our body through and as you
can see there nice solid finish position
a short finish position with a club
extended out towards Target and as I
mentioned that’s going to give you a
great understanding of how to get our
Golf Club to impact effectively and
hopefully stop our slices two to get
into that impact position a little bit
more efficiently and three to improve
our sharling as well so hopefully you
enjoyed that hopefully if you are one of
those golfers that need this drill it is
effective for you and it gets you more
of the understanding how to improve your
ball striking going forward so once
again thank you so much for watching we
really appreciate it and if you do enjoy

very much we speak to you soon
