hello there everyone welcome back to the
channel I’m Ryan Ral for those of you
that are new make sure you hit that
subscribe button see loads more content
from all of us here at golf shake to
help you play more and play better for
those of you that are regular viewers of
the channel you’ll know that this time
of year we’ve been going through some of
our favorite kind of different um areas
of your bags whether it’s drivers
Fairway Woods hybrids irons at different
handicap levels as well and it’s the
turn of Putters right so Putters can be
a bit of a Minefield and for the reason
that there are loads out there lots of
different prices what makes one better
than another so I’m going to hopefully
go through a bit of that dispel some of
the kind of myths around Putters as well
and talk to you about three very
distinct different price points so we’re
going to start at the very top end we’re
going to get some that are kind of
mid-range if you like in price point and
then some that are a little bit more
budget in terms of their price obviously
with all these These are brand new
Putters we’re going to look at today you
know the secondhand Market is out there
you can pick up something that’s pretty
loved and and find a putter that’s maybe
um at the top end or mid-range price
point at a fraction of the price out
there as well and we’re not naive enough
to think that people don’t do that but
we’re going to talk you through some of
our favorite ones that you can buy
straight off the rack brand new for some
of the prices that we’re going to talk
about so like I said we’re going to
start right at the top end of those real
high price point those Marquee Putters
and we’re going to start with Scotty
Cameron
so Scotty Cameron is probably the sort
of most eminent name when it comes to
Putters okay it’s the one that everyone
kind of dreams of owning the Scotty
Cameron putter some of you have got them
some of you have got multiple and some
of you collect them so let’s talk about
why that is well there’s that kind of
premium and and they were kind of the
first ones to make real topend premium
mil Putters okay they have two very
distinct different product lines they
have the super select which is more you
kind of bladed design
um and then they have the Phantom which
is kind of your mallets and different
shapes different alignment Styles which
is only just released actually so I’ve
got a couple of the models here so the
brand new 9.5 which we can see is a bit
more a maled head with like a double
sight line on it and then the brand new
7.5 in the new Phantom series as well so
that kind of fang shape we’ve got a
little bit of difference between the
materials in terms of the sort of the F
area at the back of the putter there
we’ve got those three dots on the top
and the Very very familiar Scotty
Cameron on the heel of the putter there
as well there are weights that we can
move around in here but really what sets
these apart is the premium nature of the
material the milling and also the
weighting of these Putters they’ve also
got a brand new grip design for this
year um which is a you know Scotty
Cameron grip that we can see in there
it’s kind of angled at the top and
bottom so kind of sits in that playing
position in a more kind of level way um
kind of sits in the hand a little bit
nicer it’s kind of a midsize sort of
traditional putter grip so for those of
you that are that golfing traditionalist
this kind of grip is going to suit you
quite nicely but yeah Scotty Cameron is
kind of the name inputting when it comes
to that premium mil end we’ve also got
some others from a couple of other
brands to show you here as well so the
likes of odyssey
later on last year Odyssey released the
ai1 series of Putters and the ai1 m is
their premium end so we can see here
we’ve got that mil insert in the face
there and obviously the ai1 was using
artificial intelligence to help design
putter faces so that when we don’t hit
the center we’re getting ball speeds
more like the ones that we hit out the
middle of the putter what does that mean
it means that when we don’t strike puts
very well we’re going to get the
distance a little bit more uniform
similar so how we hit it out the center
there’s obviously lots of different
shapes evolved here the one I’ve got is
the 11t which is quite a sort of popular
shape Mallet it’s got very distinct
sight lines on the top of it as well
it’s quite a nice heavy sort of design
as well we’ve got the stroke lab uh 90 G
shaft in there as well and the premium
Odyssey with a kind of the gold um
accent there on the grip too so this is
going to feel very similar to you Scotty
Cameron obviously the face technology in
there is what this put it is all about
and giving you that bit more forgiveness
but it’s the premium nature of the
materials used in these and the kind of
enhancement of feel that you get with
some of these mil
Putters tailor maid also have their line
the TP Reserve model of putter again um
mil made out of you know fantastic
feeling um St the steel do have the
waiting options in the heel and toe as
well but again it’s all about how these
Putters are made manufactured and the
materials Ed which kind of adds to that
price point you’re also paying for the
brand name a little bit and also
subsidizing some of the wages of the
best players in the world so let’s not
be kidded about that as well but yeah
the these are going to feel fantastic
the TP reserve line is kind of more your
um bladed kind of design there are a few
malleted options in that as well but
again we are just going to get enhanced
feel kind of that more traditional solid
feel of a m head in this putter line so
the putters we’ve just spoken about that
kind of top end price point you’re
looking anywhere between 400 and
430 for each of these models so they’re
pretty pricey and pretty Punchy although
as we move through this ranges of
Putters some of these brands do offer
Putters at a slightly lower
price so when we move into the two to
300 Mark we still see Putters from some
of the brands that we saw in that
premium end so we’ll start with Odyssey
so I’ve got a putter here which is the
ai1 series of Putters which we’ve
covered fairly extensively on the
channel we traveled out to Texas last
year and did some filming um at the
launch out there at Fields Ranch Golf
Club over in Texas and um yeah was
absolutely Blown Away by the technology
in here similar to what we see in the M
version that we’ve just had a bit of a
look at so we’ve got this AI face that’s
going to help us on the offc center hits
maintain ball speed and hopefully help
you hold more puts cuz that’s what this
is all about so the AI W with this
slightly softer more kind of white hot
inspired face is going to feel that
little bit softer it’s going to kind of
appeal to different golfers it’s
probably the one that you see the most
out on tour actually and certainly in
the bags of the likes of John Ram um and
Sam burns out there as well so two of
the kind of Marquee Odyssey players that
are using their Putters but Odyssey week
in week out are the most used Putters on
pretty much every tour around the world
and they offer so many different models
so many different feels so many
different designs so they kind of cater
for everyone so this is around that £
250 Mark so we’ve taken that bit of a
step down in terms of price point but
certainly haven’t skimped on the quality
I’ve also got two different Putters here
from tailor made so we have uh some of
the new TP collection which is just only
released a few weeks ago it’s for around
that kind of2 200 Mark so again we’ve
dropped down in the price point
this kind of really nice black sort of
series of Putters that we’ve got here
again a lot of them kind of that blade
and mid Mallet sort of design but will
feel very very different to the TP
Reserve mil that we’ve just looked at as
well see it’s a little bit softer face
um and completely different feel to that
range as well then we’ve got the ever
popular spider okay so this is more of
your Mallet head we’ve kind of got that
sight line um difference there between
the the kind of contrast between the the
sight line on the back of it and the
gray of the of the head so really
helping you align it these tend to come
in the more maled options we’ve
obviously got different neck Styles as
well and this is something that we’ve
really got to talk about with Putters is
making sure you get fitted for the right
one as I’ve already said and as you can
probably see there’s lots and lots of
different head designs to choose from
lots of neck designs so we want the
right head we want the right neck style
for your stroke we want the right length
Loft and lie these are all things that
you should be thinking about when buying
a Putter and also the grip yeah so there
are some weird and wonderful grips out
there reasons for why you would choose
one over another and that’s why we
encourage you to go and get properly
custom fitted this is the club you’re
going to use the most in your golf bag
so why not get it so that it suits you
so we can see here we’ve got very
different sort of shapes and sizes
between these two the spider around that
300 mark and then we go down to 200 with
the TP collection and 250 with the
Odyssey AI 1 so now let let’s have a bit
of a look at some of those that are a
little bit lower in
price so if you are trying to play golf
on a budget never fear we’ve got you
covered okay we’ve got three different
examples of putter here um on the market
that won’t break the bank they’re brand
new you can just pick them up straight
off the shelf and certainly nowhere near
the price that we’ve just looked at in
those previous two categories before I
get into those it has to be said Odyssey
also offer a put a series at this price
point so the DFX Putters that they um
they offer have the softest face of any
Odyssey Putter that you’re going to try
available in some of the really popular
head Styles and designs and uh kind of
around 120 to 150 Mark depending on
which head design and which model you
choose but we’re going to have a bit of
a look at some different brands here so
I’ve got Wilson Okay so son uh the
infinite putter here is fantastic this
is kind of the the newest iteration of
that they’ve redesign the grip so you
would naturally think that when you go
down in price point you’re kind of
skimping on quality and certainly you’re
not with with this level of putter so
we’ve got a grip that’s been designed
for this so that big chunky grip which a
lot of people are very very kind of keen
on having almost very similar to the
super strike ones that we do a lot of in
the shop the infinite Series has lots of
kind of traditional shapes mallets I’ve
got Center shaft here so if you’re that
kind of player who likes a center
shafted putter we’ve got that there is
that Milling on the face yes it’s not
going to be a softer steel as we see in
the likes of the Scotty Camerons and the
TP reserves of this world but they also
make the staff model range of Putters
that’s right up there in that price
point as well which we’ve covered on the
channel before so the staff model is
there kind of mil putter at that 350 to
400 range then infinite sits in there at
a slightly lower price point but still
offering really good quality we can see
that kind of black design that we got on
the on the head there and also the sight
lines on the back of it and like I say
available in lots of different shapes so
we’re talking around the £1 1220 Mark
for those in Cleveland Huntington Beach
soft is a put a series that they’ve had
out um over the past few years this is
kind of hunting to beach soft 2 which is
the new putter series for this year
again we see the Milling on the face we
see really classic sort of looks in
these designs again available in lots of
different head designs neck Styles we’ve
got that more traditional sort of grip
there very similar to a like a wind grip
that used to get on lots of Putters in
there and again feels really really good
sits great behind the ball and then that
traditional blade shape you know what
you’re getting and again £1 120 Mark for
these Putters certainly not breaking the
bank for a really really exceptional
piece of Kit then our lowest price
putter that we’ve got in the range is
from link so the uh SZ P 01 shape that
I’ve got here again we can see Milling
on the face we’ve got that kind of a
traditional sort of look to it will feel
probably not quite as good as we see
with the Scotty Camerons but you know
this is coming in at 99 and for that
sort of putter that you can get brand
new still looks like one of those mil
ones that you seen at the 400 Mark we’ve
got a bigger grip on there as well and
you can actually see it kind of tapers
gets a bit wider at the bottom so quite
similar to those reverse taper ones that
we’re seeing that are very popular that
have just come out from Golf Pride but
again you’re getting a putter here that
does everything you can need it to do
there’s different shapes that you can
buy as well will feel pretty good but
obviously we’re not quite getting the
same quality as we’re getting in Scotty
Cameron and you wouldn’t expect that for
the price point but £99 I think is
really really good for this product I
think you could you would happily pay
you know another 50 60 on top of that so
good is this putter so we do not have to
spend the world on Putters you can do if
you like that you know there are reasons
why you would do it I completely
understand but there are Putters at
different price points to suit different
budgets and you’re certainly not
skimping on quality Too Much from the
top end to the bottom hopefully you’ve
enjoyed that please drop us some
comments in there below and we’ll see
you all very very soon
