Technique Kazo
[Applause]
good evening everybody there is just one
final session of snooker to come before
we complete the mouthwatering lineup for
tomorrow’s draw for the kazoo World
snooka Championship 2024 Neil Robertson
and Jamie Jones will be in action on
table one there’s Ken do is one of five
matches that could not be closer after
the opening nine frames this morning was
Sensational yeah great standard uh not
only in that match but in in the matches
throughout um once again lots of drama
lots of tension very very close matches
just like yesterday uh and a lot U not
much between the players there’s only a
couple of standout performances with big
leads that will probably come to in a
little bit but yeah that match hanging
in the balance Neil Robertson hasn’t
played his best nuker by a stretch but
Jamie Jones has that little bit of a
lead and will feel a little bit more
confident going into tonight’s session
you’ll feel more analysis to come if
you’re just getting in from work or if
you’re just getting up for breakfast
we’ve got people tuning in from all over
the world here’s a quick recap on what
what you may have missed from earlier on
today it was a great start from Jamie
Jones against Neil Robertson very close
to a 3-0 lead Robo came back into it
Ryan Day playing great n we’ve got husin
vaf gunning for Glory against Jang xun
XI and Wu yiza really curious match
there CJ we of course semi-finalist last
year he blew almost everybody away apart
from Luca brael who came back from a
great uh a great deficit Jackson paage
and noon Sanam going well 5-4 to Jackson
paage and we’ve got C Pang against Pang
Junu apparently it’s C pang’s last match
unless he wins and then his final match
will be at The Crucible Joe o Conor
hoping to become a debut on he’s got a
6-3 lead over Matt selt and Xiao gong
faces an unenviable task against Dave
Gilbert who had a massive massive last
frame to put himself just three away
from another appearance at The Crucible
Ken overall the standard has been
phenomenal
115 centuries across the 10 days so far
yeah absolutely and I’d say one of the
reasons is that for first one I would
say is the setup the second I would say
the tables are Immaculate I mean I
played out there myself the TV table it
was fantastic to play on conducive the
big breaks good scoring and of course
great snooker so congratulations to all
the table Fitters on that one but the
whole setup the atmosphere the crowds
they sort of uh help the players along
to to make big breaks and produce good
snooker so I think it’s lots of
ingredientses uh have uh really made it
a wonderful week here yes and Neil
Robertson made the point because he
hasn’t had to qualify many years and
that’s why we’re all so excited about
the match and it’s hanging in the
balance with Jamie Jones doing
brilliantly to lead 54 this feels like a
ranking event in its own right which is
as it should be because the places are
hard earned at The Crucible here are the
current scores with one session to go
remember eight spots left up for grabs
how important the first two frames for
Neil Robertson as he Trails 5-4 we’ll
get that on the screen for you very soon
the updated scores but it’s 5-4 to Jamie
Jones how key the first couple yeah I
think I think he’s got to start off
quick you know he’s got to impose
himself a little bit more in that match
he hasn’t really done so so far and
Jamie Jones he’s one of these type of
players that will grow in confidence you
know he bounc around the table he exudes
confidence he’s not afraid of the
challenge of playing one of the greatest
players uh in the world that’s ever
played the game Neil Robertson you know
but some great matches there I think
Neil Robertson has to start fast there’s
a great match going on I mean Hussein
vafi Jiang xon only 18 years of age was
three n up at one stage made a wonderful
Sentry after losing five in a row and uh
closed the Gap to one um Ryan D played
superbly well and there’s another
cracking match cja Wei was 4-0 down to
UA and he came back and now he’s 5-4 up
Dave Gilbert uh at standing performance
Joe Conor has played really well you
know he scored pretty good it’s been a
uh a tough two tough match players there
but he’s done really well there to have
a six3 lead and uh not much between
Jackson paig up on and uh and C you Pang
against Pang xong XU Co Pang started off
really well in that match and he was
going for a maximum at one stage wasn’t
he took on a very risky plan but uh yeah
I think he uh it might be as if he’s if
he livs he he wants to go on the pill
tour but I think he should stick around
he’s still playing good snooker well I
mean he hasn’t appeared at The Crucible
for 12 years so it would be the perfect
place to bow out but that match has got
really really tight and here’s a quick
stat which Dave henden reminded me of
this morning there’s never been a year
without a debutant at The Crucible so we
shall see Joe o’ Conor hard to believe
he’s such a talented player Scottish
open finalist losing out to Gary Wilson
hard to believe that Jo o Conor has
never appeared at the cruci Ken is going
to hotfoot it into the commentary box uh
get involved Twitter X whatever you want
to call it Ken we’ve got Dave Hendon as
well we’re taking loads of requests
aren’t we about Dominic Dale’s warcom
Music it’s almost as if forget about O
Sullivan going for a record eight it’s
the warcom music for the space it’s
taking up most most social media space
right Dave henden over to you for one
last session before you head down to
chisik and anchor the Euros sport
coverage we’ve got a complete Judgment
Day part two it’s all there for the
taking isn’t it big man certainly is
it’s going to be a big night and these
are the tables as they just get underway
of course we’ll be spending a lot of
time on table one following Neil
Robertson and Jamie Jones Scott
Donaldson first in on table two needs to
make a good start clearly there save
fight has been put through his places by
Young xangan so far just in front CJ we
five on the spin from four nil down so
they tables one to four and just
underway as well on the other tables
some close matches there Dave Gilbert
obviously 72 looking to pull away
tonight but we’ll see we’ve seen a lot
of comebacks already this year and a lot
of drama ahead of us but let’s start on
table one when Neil Robertson of course
in the qualifiers for the first time
since 2006 and in off
early on he’s under it here isn’t he you
know he had a couple of centuries in the
first session but Jamie Jones very uh
tenacious character a stuck with him and
indeed he’s in front doesn’t look
comfortable does he I not as
usual very confident self and it’s
understandable as I said it’s just that
getting your head around the sort of a
little bit of a culture shock of playing
in the qualifiers now falling out of top
16
man was only a couple of seasons ago he
had that wonderful the wonderful run of
the player series events and was winning
the big big
tournaments well yeah and the problem of
course as uh Jamie Jones just awaits a
cannon there the problem of course those
points on the T assist come off and
because he’s not been doing well he’s
not got in the ITV events this season so
his ranking has really suffered as a
result
you think well how could it happen to
such a great player well
that’s what happens to the to the best
and you lose a bit of
confidence and
uh can take a little bit of time to get
it back you know you need results like a
vicious circle it can be need results to
get that confidence back
big night as well though for jamy Jones
this would be a big scalp and just to
play at The Crucible again obviously
it’s where everyone wants to end their
season he has played there five times
last two years ago so
everyone is kind of under it tonight on
all the tables but Jamie John’s just
looking to settle back into this match
I’ve obviously had a couple of hours
away from the
table missed that
one Jimmy
going to show as much action as possible
Scott Donaldson needs a good start he’s
72 down to Ryan day and he’s making a
good start he’s on a break of 84 so he’s
going to win this Frame we’ll just see
if he can make the
Sentry I mean he’s in a tough spot but
there’s still time to turn it
around that’s the thing about snooker
obviously you know it’s up to you at the
table however well your opponent’s been
playing if they’re in that seat they
can’t do anything yeah and that’s what
you got to do keep them in that seat as
long as possible
that’s the one of the the most I think
the most toughest thing about snooker is
the sort of the mental site is when
you’re sitting in that chair it’s one of
the well one of the only sports that you
cannot do anything while the player is
at the
table it’s not like golf you have your
own ball it’s not like tennis you can
hit a rally back it’s not like football
you can make a challenge you just have
to wait and sit in the chair until your
opponent is finished and mentally that
is so how tough cuz you could feel
you’re playing really well but you’re
just not getting a chance
and that’s the hard part Scott DS’s
highest break as a pro is 141 so he can
actually beat that
here that would be some start to the
night there’s a 143 on here for the per
Shan yeah CJ we had a 145 on didn’t he
he missed the last red and 110
not on 147 already course in the
qualifiers if he makes another one
tonight needs to make two now to get the
magic
147,000
prize plus the high break of course as
well I think the high break counts
doesn’t it for the as the qualifier as
well as the the championship itself at
The Crucible so that makes a
difference well this is terrific stuff
from Scott Donson
just sending a message as well to Ryan
day he’s going to throw everything at
him here yeah such a lovely lad Scott
Thon always very humble very
affable very dedicated to his sport yeah
cuz a year ago they played each other in
this round Scott had to withdraw after
four frames he was unwell so great that
he’s uh been able to play in this match
and he’s starting to play really good
stuff in this match
yeah I mean it’s the first step on the
ladder isn’t it he’s got to win eight of
the possible 10 frames tonight this is
the first one on board I’m what a way to
do
it which are highest break as well yeah
that’s it P and black for the highest
break he’s had on T 143 he’s high so far
141 so what a start to the night for
Scott Donaldson absolutely superb
brilliant
[Music]
CJ we’s won the first against Wu yiza so
64 and as we go to Table Six Pang jungu
just breaking down actually 57 in front
that was a break but just breaking down
54 over cha
ping they’re actually the last off this
afternoon yeah I I was didn’t know
whether they were going to take them off
after after four all or was it 53 up was
yeah he was 53 up thought they might
have taken him up given him a bit more
of a
breeder I think that’s one of the issues
maybe gone forward is that maybe you
just start start early I can understand
the early starts in the evening that you
know you get the message out you get you
get the players and you get the stories
out in the evening and particularly for
tomorrow but uh maybe we could start a
little bit earlier so gives the players
a bit bit more time between session cuz
sometimes you might have a really long
session that goes on and you only have
maybe an hour or so uh between your next
uh for your next session so maybe an
earlier time what do you think well at
the cruise bow they start at 10: yeah so
so what’s the problem with doing that
here yeah it’s not not a bad
idea
one okay well this Frame still very much
in the balance but uh table eight the
match not so much in the balance Dave
Gilbert 72 up and already nicely in for
8-2
here yeah he’s played really well hasn’t
he I mean we’ve been keeping an eye on
this throughout the morning and anytime
he’s hasn’t made many Scrappy frames I
mean he scored pretty
well but he’s a lovely Q isn’t he what
we’re talking about is is Q action and
stuff just such a wonderful kill as dve
Gilbert had that wonderful run to the
final of the World Champ just pipped
with John Higgins 7 16 after he had a
good
lead well he’s missed that but it’s
three Snookers
needed so that should be 82 but uh let’s
get as much action as we can in and
table three a really interesting one
here I ver was 3-0 down to Jang xun and
18y old rookie he’s 5-4 up now although
it was 53 Jang actually finished off
with a sentry
hin in first in this opening frame of
the night still on this red it would
seem to left
corner we played that well at the bridge
over the Reds and judged it nicely avoid
the middle pocket with the Q ball top
side of the blue shouldn’t be a
problem red just above the black spot
well Poss will be his next
choice he’s going to be a dangerous
opponent Hass baf if he does come
through this match still a long way to
go
but what a story for young Jang Jun as
well 18 years of age playing great
snooker what a story would be if he
could qualify for the
crucible that would make great headlines
back in his home country of
China yes yet another talented player
from that part of the
world for fire C beat ding in the first
round last year and then well we know
what happened with Ronnie Sullivan but
that’s all in the
past although I’m sure it’ll be brought
up again
so 54 in front just checking the scores
this black to get to the Snookers
required
stage
yeah so we’ll just leave this table
looks like it’s going to be 64 to the
fight but let’s try and keep across as
much action as possible here’s Jo Connor
63 over matell
and in with a chance here in this first
frame of the
night
yeah could
be one of those debutants who going to
make his bow at The
Crucible if he does get through this
match it’s quite a record isn’t it I
mean at De at every every
single World Championship with The
Crucible since 1977 has always been a
debutant
so if few can do it one Jo Connor is one
of
them yeah he would be the
229th player to compete at The Crucible
I won’t ask you to name them
all I think I could name nine never mind
229
I leave the stats to you
Dave there’s plenty of them here’s one
for you I’m going to unleash this one
straight away right go on go on the the
last final the last World Championship
final to feature two players who both
debutants in the world final so two
players never been in the world final
before the last final right 1981 Steve
Davis and Doug mroy no way since then
every World final has had at least one
player
wow that’s incredible so what we’re
saying is experience goes a long way
Sheffield yeah without a
shadow that could have been broken last
year couldn’t it if had Mark Allen have
beaten Mark Selby in the semi-final
yeah it’s a good break he’s got good
control of the cub I know he takes his
time and he’s you know shot time would
be quite High Joe Conor but he’s very
precise with his
cball and just as I say that what is it
with these commentators the course of
the
commentators I should have just kept me
mouth shot
he’s made a complete hash of that he’s
not on the red saking
himself so still a bit
of okay well that’s gone wrong hasn’t it
but let’s go to Table Six uh because CH
ping that frame that we saw Pang as we
picked it up he missed a red on 57 and
here is CH Ping On the yellow trying to
clear up oh this will be some shot got
to go yeah three cushions
here between pink and black with the Q
ball watch it he’s got to miss the the
left middle pocket oh he’s played it
really well oh what a quality shot well
played yeah and as we’ve been saying
he’s sort of saying this might be his
last tourament so in a way pressure kind
of off him a little bit Yeah if that’s
in his
thinking so he was 5-3 down looking to
level up here and he’s only played
Cruise once 2012 big Mark
allen7 perfect on the blue he can just
roll it in or he can play it off the
cushion just needs blue and
pink can hold
for yeah nice
place well played
so pink to level things up once again
for chow you
Pang yeah Pang made the running in that
frame but it’s ch Pang has taken it good
little Steely clearance five each let’s
go to table one nil Robertson
in 28 looking to level up he needs to
use all his resilience all his
experience tonight just to get this
match one
he knows there’s so much Focus within
the game on the fact he’s here it’s been
talked about actually for months as
people have been following the rankings
35 big crowd in the English Institute of
sport here in Sheffield as well and a
lot of interest of course in this match
yeah there’s a big
crowd in for the match of
course not a SE to be
had and great value that that’s a
another great thing that’s helped I
think have big crowds as well 12 lb for
the day for both sessions you can watch
any match you
like I
mean can’t get better value than that
can you well I suppose you could it
could be 11 couldn’t it could be I’m
sure you’d get a discount again could
have make it a
tener well the truth is playing The
Crucible is priceless isn’t it yeah and
Neil Robertson has been there every year
since
2005 yeah this is the start he would
have
liked would have
wanted Jamie Jones was in early in this
Frame made a nice long red after n
Robinson went in off
but didn’t really make much of it
so 47 the
difference this brown put him 52 ahead
51 remaining but you
can’t not see
him put another few Reds at
least just what the doctor ordered for
Robertson
46 yeah that should be
55 now let’s go back to table seven
because joob Connor was in front we saw
him lose position he actually took that
thin red onto the right corner didn’t ft
it Matt s looking to
steal it’s the old thing for him isn’t
it win this mini session either 4-0 or
3-1 and he’s right back in it again
[Applause]
yeah the problem will be that red that’s
just to the right of the
[Applause]
black I think let’s go to table five cuz
it’s quite interesting there Dave just
as we watch this because I think there’s
going to be a little bit more play on
this table let’s go to table five
because Jackson pagee needed a snooker
he’s got n on in a well have a look at
this what a snooker he’s made there now
he’s got to hit this he’s got to hit and
it’s not going to be
easy no and it could go if it goes in
off he’s in trouble no he’s
okay let’s see how he got into that
snooker because it must have been a good
shot from Jackson have a look at this
well well what a shot this
is well played Jackson PA great shot and
nicely acknowledged oh has he Oh I
thought he might have fluked it well
that was a chance and after such a
wonderful
snooker to leave the pink for not on
well it’ll
be devastated Jackson page easy pink
into the green pocket
well play not
on yeah a lot of drama already in in
what we’ve been going about 25 minutes
and we’ve seen up plenty there’s more so
five each there I same for fight as we
saw won the first frame of the night and
he’s banging in the second so he was
30-0 down but he’s starting to play good
stuff now and he’s looking to certainly
use his experience and pull
away in this little mini session and
thus in the match
overall 30 19 in the world just outside
the 16 who of course gets seated through
74 by the way C Jo so he’s now W seven
in a row against
waza Jong is still playing for Snookers
against they but in fact he has got one
so that frame is not quite done yet it
was looking like
82 we keep across
that starting to look a lot more relaxed
now hin than he did early on but you
know Jitters are inevitable early on in
this round aren’t they
yeah yeah he looks pretty good very
relaxed very composed isn’t he
four
shall we go back to table seven let’s
see what happened with ja Connor and
Matt selt it was getting quite
interesting there well let’s just let
ass sign pop this cuz this is fry ball
and then yeah get back there we go so
that’s
74 here we go oh look at this for
situation how do you like
that big frame this isn’t it I mean
they’re all big frames
but what a gap it would be 73 as opposed
to
64 and particularly the fact that Joe
Connor had the first
chance could oh he’s got away with one
there he’s had a result there Jo Connor
didn’t hit that where he intended but
he’ll settle for
it meanwhile sorry just briefly Scott
Donaldson we saw him make the 143 he’s
won the next as well so 74 Ryan day was
72 of
course now what do you do here I’d like
to I think I’ll try and uh screw the Q
ball down behind the yellow here knock
the red down towards the black of a
couple of
cushions that’s what he
tried and almost well while we just
watched this B A little incident in the
nil Robertson jery Jones match which uh
going to bring you five each of course
Robertson’s won the first and you could
see playing this shot and just caught I
think the yellow there and just owned up
to it referee was sort of lurking anyway
but great
sportsmanship they’re still very early
on in that frame in fact the four points
from the foul the only points on the
board there but Joe Conor seemed to have
this Frame one just one bad positional
shot turned it when he was
in well what a shot his play
there get that clip on the red almost
kep behind the ground that was a
wonderful p a
shot just to confirm Dave Gilbert has
won that frame that we were watching
earlier has seemed lightly so 82 and uh
he’s looking a big favorite to progress
to The
Crucible for what would be a 10th
time the other stat I’m going to unleash
Ken if you’re in the mood yeah go on
there’s only once we think about who’s
going to be in the final of often people
think of the favorites only once that
The Crucible have seeds one and two met
in the final that was
1987 Joe Johnson was defending Champion
Steve Steve Davis yeah and that’s the
only time yep
wow well what a return return of safety
that was as well two great shots
together both players great safety shots
look at
that wow that’s amazing St that
this is well wide yeah and free ball say
as well
Matt selt is a very good tact tactical
player for
sure obviously this Frame still there’s
plenty to run I would
say free ball he may after that just
play safe again
as I say this Frame still some sorting
out to do but a lot of interest of
course on the main table table one Neil
Robertson Jamie Jones let’s just update
you with that Neil was won the first up
to that foul although it wasn’t actually
decisive there’s been plenty of shots
since then but jamy Jones nicely in now
refusing to go away in this
match former quarterfinal The Crucible
I played there two years
ago
yeah 25
just while we watch Jamie Jones
here can of course get in contact with
myself Ken and Rob on the old Twitter or
X I’m Dave henden Ken is at kend 1997
Rob is at Rob Walker TV and also WIS Nur
that’s at we wst give us your thoughts
on the evening’s
action who you hoping is going to
qualify and thoughts on the draw
tomorrow who might play who what will be
the most dangerous draws for the top
players and indeed seeds might be
vulnerable now he’s played into the Reds
here but they might all be covering one
another certainly to left corner 33
So Jamie John still with a bit to do
here but uh Matt selt has got himself
back into the frame we saw the free ball
and there’s been a bit of safety since
then on table seven let’s see if he can
now take the
frame and this is a bit of a steal it
was looking like 73 Jo Conor was nicely
in as we saw earlier lost position selt
has won the safety battle
oh but he’s missed the
Ping receive a lot of balls missed lot
of pressure balls and you would say that
what an opportunity for Matt selt look
how hard he’s hit the Q ball where it’s
finished but anything is missable when
the pressure is on and certainly feeling
the pressure out there Matt selt
that was a wonderful chance for a
steal may still get another chance but
he’s lost the initiative
now Joe
Connor playing a good shot big Target it
was behind the
pink I can play it well
could play off two cushions here or one
cushion and if he catches this full ball
this yellow well you could leave the Q
ball exactly where the yellow is and
knock the yellow up the table that’s
what he’s hoping
for for
so just a moment ago on table three h
Veri already won the first two of the
night to lead 74 and look at these red
spread
oh what a great
shot wanted to
and it’s nice and handy for him as well
with the red going over the middle and
that was just a few moments ago and he’s
still going here 40 nil so really
powering on
tonight another lovely little positional
shot finding the gap
between red and
black yeah it’s almost like you didn’t
get the memo that this is supposed to be
nervy night and it’s going to be
difficult he’s come out and he’s just
taken the game to his opponent here
taking control of the
match yeah he’s done well here
considering he was 30-0 down not really
getting much of a chance W that very
important FR before the forest
interval and hasn’t looked back
since played really well h v played well
in his first match against Marco fu
yeah one of those players I think though
the the top
16 would probably wish to avoid in the
first round
definitely yeah so it’s going to be 84
there but the very eventful frame first
frame of the night Joe Conor Matt selt
and selt now just needs blue and pink to
win it doesn’t need that black on the
cushion so Joe Connor had a lot of
chances but Matt selt has found a way
back into it
despite him going wrong himself we saw
the Miss on that pink he needs this pink
for 6’4 and you just get the feeling
this match could be quite eventful
tonight there we go an eventful first
frame and it’s won by Matt
cell now then Neil
Robertson one the first of the night of
course here he is in frame two and he’s
five behind but at the table with what
you got to say is a pretty good
[Applause]
chance yeah we said that he’d love a
fast start and well this could be it if
he couldn’t win the frame from this
visit
got to be
careful SL very close to that pink he’s
okay referee
amas with his Eagle
o that would put
him 10 points in the lead so
he’s going to need all four Reds at
least 47 to win the frame in this visit
and it’s not going to be
straightforward but a really good
chance
48 just to say Jackson page has uh won
frame two of the night so he’s going to
be 65 up on no and senom
and chai Pang looking good for a 65 lead
over Pang
jungu had a couple of 10 NES last night
didn’t we was very exciting I’m sure
some close ones again
tonight
56 yeah it wouldn’t be BR if they were
another couple of 109 tonight C Pang now
gone 65 up he’s won the first couple of
frames there
tonight Jackson P got his nose in front
once again 65 against
napon 63 Good’s got a first frame on the
on the
board looks like he’s on a 56 break
still a bit to go but should win the
frame from this visit
a teric red from Robertson to keep this
break going so 27 ahead 34 with the
black so he needs the red as well it
should be 65 to
him Zach shity struggled against him in
the last round but Jamie Jones has
really stood up to him
today Robertson know he going to have to
play well to win this match no this is a
lovely shot Dave yeah look at this and
he is playing well
C that
lovely lots of Top Spin perfect position
to knock this right into the right
center 72 yeah good
break yeah it’s going to be 65 to
Robertson but Scott Donaldson was 72
down coming out tonight he made a 143
dominated the next and here he is 46 in
front at the table in frame 12 so what a
start for for the
Scotsman quite a sort of humble
character isn’t he Donaldson but a fine
competitor as well yeah lovely
lad and what a
start and this is what we were talking
about isn’t it this is you know it’s
amazing you have an interval you’re 72
up you think okay just got to get out
and try and uh go even frame frame for
frame Toe to Toe with your opponent but
it doesn’t always work out like that
your opponent comes out
flying and you sitting in your chair and
you can’t do anything about it and
that’s exactly what’s happened Ryan day
here so far Scott dson playing great
stuff well this is true I mean 72 down
obviously you know a big struggle but
this is true Ken I a couple years ago I
had a play on at the Ed in Fringe and
Scott came to watch it now if he can
make it through that he can make it
through anything yeah yeah he deserved
the medal for that one
yeah jagu dong has won that frame he’s
going to so it’s going to be 83 Gilbert
as Ryan day looks on with a little bit
of concern at the at how well
Donaldson’s playing will be the concern
he needs this red
though to win the
frame just take it easy nice and easy
into the pocket yeah no heroics there so
good stuff from Scott dson yeah 75 it’s
going to be barring Snookers let’s get
to table four CJ we semi-finalist last
year really created headlines didn’t at
The Crucible and was in big trouble 4-0
down to Wu Isa but he’s won seven on the
spin he’s on a break of 51 here it’s
almost like sort of he’s gone back 12
months yeah what a great match these two
young Lads have been having today and
what a what a comeback you know to show
the composure belief confidence they
even gone fourn down it was
no Panic buttons
pressed this will be eight frames in a
row incredible
performance the young
man he was for 14 five up I was
corrected on Twitter he was I said he
was 154 up he was 14 and5 up against
Luca brell in the semi-final well that’s
the great thing about social media K you
will be corrected oh
absolutely and I am corrected more often
than not
though just tuning in nil Robertson 65
over Jamie Jones Ryan Day 75 over Scott
Donson aain theight 84 over Jang Jun
this about to go8
to C Jo we 65 Jackson paage over Noam 65
Chie Pang over Pang shangu 64 Jo o Conor
over Matt cell 83 Dave Gilbert over
xuong they are the latest scores here at
the final evening of the final round of
qualifying so 84 we’ll be back with this
one later but let’s go back to Hussein
ver Jang xun Jang was three up so H’s
won eight last nine frames but this is a
good scoring chance the one frame he won
in all of that was with a Sentry
actually the last of the
afternoon and really just has to win the
frame here now to just stay in touch
it’s been a quick mini session they’ve
only been out there about 45
[Applause]
minutes well this will be quite
incredible wouldn’t it I mean he’s on
what 37 at the moment 44 the position of
the Reds you think well he’s got to win
the frame but not only that make another
Cent it wouldn’t be quite incredible
if the last couple of frames he’s won
between the barrage of breakes or he’s
okay is
he maybe just about didn’t want that
little kiss but I think he’s okay he’s
on the
blue yeah well that’s the standard isn’t
it Dave I mean like yeah you win two
frames you could make two
sentries since he was three n up of
course well even going back to uh Ron
Ron O Sullivan played David Gray at the
cruise bow I think it was year 2000 he
made five centuries and lost 109 five
centuries
amazing if any of the top 16 are
watching do let us know don’t be shy
what you reckon about the qualifiers
there’ll be most of them be keeping an
eye on it I’m sure yeah I saw a little
tweet from the Milkman into us this
morning to I think that was yesterday
actually for the M Davis match he wanted
to see a little bit
more I’m sure the top 16 are watching is
no doubt some of them they may not admit
it
though but I’m sure they’ll have a
they’ll be cast the over and casting the
over the the draw tomorrow as well as
long
as along with all the the
qualifiers very interesting Rob Walker
and Mark Allen down the draw up in Media
city
and
Salford so not too far away from winning
this Frame and just stopping the the
fire
charge
61 so this black
he’s frying
ball great response this I mean he’s
been outplayed completely tonight but
he’s uh not going down without a fight
and if he can win frames in one visit
like this he’s going to be dangerous
regardless of the match position
[Applause]
77 no doubt regardless of whether he
wins this match or not that this run
he’s been on at the world qualifying is
going to stand him in good stead for the
second year of his two-year card and of
course the ranking points will be very
handy as
well he beat Amir Sosh of Iran will be
on the tour next season going through
the Q School Fang jangi of course won
the European Masters a ranking event two
years ago and Sam craigy who was a
semi-finalist at the German Masters this
season so three solid wins under his
belt now this is lovely stuff it’s a
terrific match this very high standard3
84
okay well obviously the frame is his and
it’s going to be 85 they’ll be back in
15 minutes plenty more live action
coming up but now we’re going to go back
to the studio with Robin
Ken thanks very much Dave just a brief
opportunity to pick the brains of the
1997 champion of the world the man who
very nearly broke The Crucible curse and
won it back toback after his first title
Ken we’ve seen some fantastic moments
but we’ve also seen lapses in concent
ation and mistakes we’ve just got three
to show you the first of which comes
from Scott Donaldson who by the way has
been phenomenal from 72 to 75 why do
these moments occur well obviously you
know it’s the anoral of the situation I
mean there’s a Miss Black off the spot
okay it wasn’t as easy as that pink but
look at that pressure look the
adrenaline and of course what pressure
does is you start to over hit the ball
and look where the Q ball is finished I
mean he’s trying to get on the yellow
there and he’s missed it and here’s
another easy Miss look at you see what
it means there a little bit of
frustration anything is missable out
there I mean I know because I’ve missed
a lot myself and a lot easier ones than
those so uh I’m not criticizing I’m just
sort of we’re just highlighting that
even these guys at the top of their game
some of the best players in the world
can miss easy shots down to pressure and
that’s all it is just pressure
adrenaline and the enormity of the
situation so when you’ve made a mistake
like that and we saw Jamie whacking his
his fist into the table he’s turning
this into a fantastic match as many
neutrals kind of I think wrongly assumed
that Neil would Steamroller him because
he’s got a seven and0 record against
Jamie but Jim’s a Class Act how do you
get those moments of frustration out of
your mind and focus on what’s ahead
rather than what’s just happened
absolutely when it’s gone it’s gone
there’s nothing you can do about it you
can only try and you know change it
going forward you know and the best way
to do that is is to get back in and and
try and pot some balls you know it’s
easier said and done but that’s why you
have to to be mentally strong that’s
where your concentration that’s where
your sort of uh your confidence and
being what what we call is mentally
strong is that you’re able to eradicate
the bad misses and brush them off I mean
Mark Williams is a typical example of
that how easy that he may miss balls but
how easy that he can get over it and
just play the next shot like it’s his
Force you know and he doesn’t carry bad
shots with them a lot of players that
you will see that will show their
frustrations and players on the circuit
from when out to professional some
players weren’t able to throw it off
they weren’t able to forget it They
carried it with it and it might carry
with them for a couple of frames and
that would mean winning or losing
matches so uh but if you can do it all
the top players can do it Robertson is
great at that as I said Ron Sil M
Williams all the top players can do it
very easily it’s the players down the
end of the the rankings and uh can’t do
it as well brilliant insight there from
Ken do we have had moments of lapses of
concentration but we have also seen some
brilliant breaks Donaldson has come
right back into the match on table two
and this match between Neil Robertson
and Jamie Jones maybe maybe Dave henden
it could just be going all the way well
this brown is frame ball this to go 68
in front with 67 on for
75 so yeah it may be going all the way
but maybe Neil Robertson is starting to
pull
away uh he one snooker needed so it’s
not quite done yet but he’s in a strong
position for a 75
lead in this big big night for
him well he hasn’t got that red but is a
snooker needed by Jamie Jones otherwise
it’s
75 so let’s go to table seven Joe Conor
Matt selt we saw that very dramatic
first frame that Matt selt won on the
pink but Jo Connor looking to just uh
steady the ship get his three frame lead
back here this is
not she needs good queue in this red
though 42 in front so
a strong position if he can pot
this yeah nicely
done yeah que that nicely didn’t he’s
just a little bit low on the black so he
might have to make a little cannon on
one of these Reds possibly the red just
to the right of the Pink Spot full ball
cannon on that will be
perfect oh he’s missed
it but he’s held the Q barall cuz the
red just to the right the pink pots he
didn’t have to really make it I thought
you would but he’s able to hold
it 50 points ahead this red and a color
should be
enough yeah so this is fry Bol for 74
just sort of it’s like King Canute
holding back the tide isn’t it holding
back the comeback three frames lead re
stored so should be 74 to joob Conor but
Scott Donaldson of course with 72 down
to Ryan day and what a comeback this is
75 and poised Ken for 76 that’s
incredible isn’t it absolutely
incredible Ryan Day hasn’t really had
much of a chance it’s been a barrage of
breaks from Scott
dson Ryan day will
be well straight on to the practi
practice table I would say to try and
warm up and get that Q arm going cuz at
the
moment Scott Don’s Q is very hot
indeed just to say by the way Jang Jun
we we left him on that break he made a
13-1 so he’s 85 down but playing good
stuff last two frames he’s won has been
with
centuries it’s delicate the rest fre Leo
skulan but this red is frame ball what a
terrific performance from Scott Donson
this
evening yeah so that’s frame ball and
Ryan day’s got a regroup in the interval
maybe the interval will help him
actually it just stops the momentum for
Donelson but he’s done his job which is
to to win all four
frames let’s got to table five Jackson
paig and no and senom another very
interesting match this 65 to paig as we
pick it up though no and senom looking
to fight back in this
Frame Jo Conor has won that Prime that
we were watching as as expected 74
against
selt Jamie Jones still playing for the
snooker against Neil
Robertson yeah not
one well 24 Point deficit so it’s not
going to be
straightforward here fact it’s going to
be extremely difficult red tie it up
close it up right hand side cushion and
look where the green is so a bit of work
to do but he’d be delayed to be back at
the table
rattling through the frames aren’t they
as well that’s the other thing not to of
hanging around tonight yeah no I thought
there
be a few protracted or elongated frames
but not at all it’s been quite
open NE Robertson’s done enough to win
that frame that we were watching so 75
76 Ryan Scott
Donson this one though could be about to
go six all this is a key
shot a lovely positional shot
35
well he not out the woods yet he
slightly wrong side of the
[Applause]
blue already been of course a memorable
little Championship making the maximum
but doly love to get back to The
Crucible for what would be a fifth
time yeah as I say wrong side of the
blue so couldn’t get close to the yellow
now is he snookered yeah that’s no good
no good at all poor
shot yeah it looked like it would be
about to Green this Frame it still might
be but he’s not on the
yellow okay well this Frame
it’s got some mileage in it we’ll be
back with it in a moment but let’s get
across as much of the action as we can
table 8 83 Dave Gilbert over xiaonong
was 72 so they’ve split the first two J
won the last one and here he is 23
behind that red on the side cushion
already looking like it’ll be a
problem 27
just to say uh Donal uh says he’s
watching in the break room of the Kon
maternity hospital in Dublin OH with an
anesthetist he says a lady is waiting
for an epidural in the labor Ward but we
can’t tear ourselves away from Robertson
V Jones the mid-section interval can’t
come soon enough for her well tell her
if it’s a boy she has to call him
Dominic
I might need an epy drawer myself with
th comes into The Crucible singing his
own walk on song
hey well we built this up so much I me
let’s hope he’s not an anticlimax cuz
we’ve talked about little else all day I
know this is good stuff from sh
gong sticking in there went day two
down battling
away still got no pill
task ahead of him but he’s still in
there
fighting
42 yeah so we’re coming up to the the
key moment a couple of shots time
getting that red off
48 now lovely angle on the red po the
red just nudge that safe red over that
middle pocket if you
can can’t catch a full ball need to
catch a quarter ball just like that not
too hard
oh didn’t need to hit it that hard all
he needed to do was just knock it over
the right Center you got to trust it
sometimes we sort of hitting and hoping
there sometimes just requires a delic
little
shot so now he sort of put himself under
a little bit of pressure got to be
careful bridging over pink and black
might need the little extension on his
Que
still a stretch this year Marcel eart
keeping close
watch good shot and he’s nicely under
red well played
time to mention Patrick Quinn who’s
watching in Beijing an Irish man who’s
living in Beijing loving the Insight
loving
the
coverage and he can’t wait for The
Crucible to start on Saturday well
neither can we Patrick we’re looking
forward to the draw
tomorrow and watch it
all
well unravel over the course of 17 days
well if sha gong’s going to be in that
draw he’s got to win this Frame this is
a golden chance now he’s done really all
the hard work you feel just a matter of
keeping cool now 12 in front yellow
green and brown
needed can tell you C Joe from 4-0 down
has gone 94 up against Wu yiza so what a
run and he’s one away from a return to
The Crucible at the last as heroics
so big effort this from
Shong he was 82 down remember
but I suppose it’s cleared the mine he
knows he’s now got to produce his best
snooker and this has been a very
impressive break Brown is full
frame not out of it yet 84 we’ve seen
all sorts of
comebacks and uh well who’s to say won’t
see another one so Table
Six we’re going to go to shortly just to
see an all ch ches a fair Pang shanu and
Cha
ping it’s six all we can’t go to that
but it’s six
[Applause]
all so let’s go to five Jackson Paige KN
and senom it’s 65 to paig and they’re on
the green three points in
it and as you can
see got him snooker
[Applause]
here Sen’s got P
SED not an easy one to hit this he’s got
to try and check it off the
cushion
no the angle is not there so what he has
to do is sort
of he’s got to play it with a bottom of
the Q ball into that right hand side
cushion past the middle pocket so it
checks
actually sort of widen the
angle think Brian Alman is
uh so it’s G to his head this business
with um Dominic Dale he says the idea
for walkom music Angels but sung live by
the snooker player Robbie Williams who
has qualified yeah
yeah he definitely have regrets over
that wouldn’t
he oh good shot good hit now has he got
it safe needs a bit of look I don’t
think he’s got it stuck it
up so Jack so sorry KN and senom with
his chance to level up at six
each I remember last year he he uh beat
jangan 109 on the final black he ped a
black to the green pocket to qualify so
uh you know he’s used to the drama of
Judgment Day
he needs brown and blue
here he’s
okay it wasn’t very convincing was it
that brown
shouldn’t missed the blue dead
straight yeah nicely done so it should
be six all let’s get back to table one
because there’s a lot of interest in
Neil Robertson’s progress if it’s going
to be progress tonight he’s 75 up on
Jamie Jones because it was 54 to Jones
so Robertson started the evening exactly
as he wanted to by winning the first
three and he’s in again here in fourth
frame of the
night earlier on well he made two
centuries the first of them actually was
the 100th he’d made in the world
championship over the years only the
sixth player to do
that Sullivan Henry hi selia
Murphy and the sort of thing that
appeals to Robert not all the players
care about that stuff but I think he
does why wouldn’t you you should be
proud of these
achievements I think especially having
come all the way from Australia his
story is very different you know he’s
made sacrif deves let’s be honest some
of the Brits have not had
to yeah totally agree fell off the tour
didn’t he got back on as
well came over what did he have 500 quid
in his pocket yeah little suitcase and a
q have q we’ll travel
14 Paul Harrison just asked the question
he watching in Preston he said where of
course he used to have the qualifying at
the guil all he said uh
any idea who the last seeded debutant
was at The Crucible in other words a
player who played for the first d as a
seed I think the answer to that is Mark
Williams 97 he actually didn’t didn’t
qualify initially and then was seeded 97
Martin Clark also going further back was
made his debut as a
seed this Blackburn who works with
horses is in rainy har forer listening
to our every word thank you
Liz this is it well this this is a funny
one he says David Fallen says does The
Crucible course extend to the world
championship prior to The Crucible well
it wouldn’t be it wouldn’t be called The
Crucible course step would my head’s
spinning sorry Dave I had to dig you out
there well JY Jones not seeing the funny
side and understandably because
Robertson seems to be making his move
here he’s just starting to to play his
KNE that reliable game we’re so used to
seeing from
him Ryan day you can see there over the
garden fence back out having lost the
first four to Donaldson 76 today was
72
35
36 he’s really ramped it up isn’t he
tonight
Robertson
looks 43
perus
44 got in the groove straight away we
said he needed a fast start and that’s
exactly what he’s doing that’s what I
talk about you know just stamping as
imposing himself on the match he didn’t
really do that today he was stopping and
starting
51 no you’re quite right I mean you look
at the breaks tonight 5979 67 and
whatever this ends up as that’s that’s
you know how to reel frames off clearly
yeah that’s more his game of course and
and he’s doing it in quick fashion you
know but this afternoon didn’t really do
that as well still made a couple of
breaks but I don’t know it’s just
started off missed a lot of balls gave
his opponent a lot of confidence but
tonight it’s been a different
player so just needs to wrap this up
now this black Till by 68 with 67
on so this is exactly the start he was
looking
for in fact sorry there
actually R are on the table there one no
there are five I was right the first
time one snooker needed obviously wants
to rather kill the frame off than have
the the playing
on Liz blackborn is listening in
radio style to Judgment Day and she’s
doing that in a rainy Herer with her
horses I just read that out Ken did you
so you’re not listening in okay well
there you go I was Miles
Away engrossed in the snooker
yeah yeah should just say thanks for all
the messages obviously we can’t read
absolutely everyone out because we’ve
got to follow the snooker but we
appreciate the interaction so many
people right around the world enjoying
this judgment
dat I’ve got a good one here actually I
don’t think you’ve read this one now 59
for Dominic’s walk on Jamie
Jones and Mark Williams singing The
Green Green Bays of Home
eh well this she’s becoming like the
Super Bowl Dominic’s walk on song isn’t
it some production
So Jamie Jones needs one snooker here
otherwise it’s 85 nil Robertson and a
bit of breathing space for the
Australian what is of course a big big
match for
him it’s a big match for everyone but
just the fact that he’s ended up out of
the top 16 and having to come here
[Applause]
one good
part David Fallin is obviously listening
he’s still uh chilling in but he’s he’s
come back to me he says uh he goes what
I meant was is any first time world s
Champion successfully defended the title
I blame my warding on vodka and ardan
Brew well David That’s Why They Call It
The Crucible course as any firsttime
Champion has never defended his title
yeah I mean pre- Crucible Jo Davis did
it 14 times didn’t he won it the first
year and then just kept carried on
winning it but it was a different
era and it wasn’t in a Cru
no did he ever get beat Joel Davis he
never got a pro
no so that extra red surely secures the
frame and we’ll be back with them after
the interval but Table Three here’s a
fory 85 over xang Jun looking to press
on towards the framy needs to win the
match yeah a top bread of that little
Bunch four pots into the left corner
he’s on it
nicely now he’s looking at one of these
Reds into the right center but he has
the angle to split the three Reds up but
if one of them pots he may not
bother playing for the loose one along
the top
cushion this time I’m sure we go into
the
Reds perfect
angle little bit of
pace and that’s okay that’ll
do
to yeah he’s played very well tonight
hasn’t he and uh indeed he’s played very
well from 3-0 down in this match the two
frames that Shang xan has won in that
time have been with centuries so it’s
not like he’s not playing well it’s just
that thei is making the most of all his
chances I’m going to make the most of an
opportunity now to eat a pizza so Rob
Walker is going to join Ken for the next
20 minutes or
so enjoy your pizza it’s not from
Dominic or Domino is
[Laughter]
it sorry Dave couldn’t resist
it’s been a quality match this
Robert hin
baf Three N down janon made all the
early
running he’s played well himself D young
Chinese
prodige was saying he never panicked
he’s just very confident within
himself been a brilliant demonstration
of composure yeah from Hussein he he’s
shown us why he’s bidding for his third
successive Crucible appearance he’s
taken a step up in class in the last
couple of
years beat uh oh how about
that beat ding last year and
then had that uh match against Ronnie
that was memorable for so many different
reasons they’ve both moved on from
that but it’ll be entertaining he’s one
frame away
all credit to Jang Yun so young and
clearly very very
talented but hin has found a way to
settle himself down into the match 3-0
down then 5-4 and he’s really started to
turn the
screw this
evening similarly Scott Donaldson four
frames in in the space of about an hour
I made it from 72 to
76 yet another Century we’ve had more
more than 115 from the 10 days of
qualifying here at the English Institute
107 and husin V is one frame away from a
third successive
appearance at The
Crucible now when he pots this great
break now we’ll have a little look at
table
[Applause]
two Ryan day is in front
but Scott Donaldson is at the table once
more he’s rattled off four frames in a
row they’ve had their little mid session
break and this Ken looks like another
very very useful opportunity and Ryan
Day must be beginning to feel it oh
absolutely we without a shadow of a
doubt I mean 72 up you need three frames
from possible 10 and well this could
be five frames in a row for Donaldson
what what a start and what a session
he’s
having
21 and it’s it’s very painful when
you’re being chased when you’ve got a
big lead but when you’re chasing it’s a
wonderful feeling and
that’s Scott Thomson is doing very well
at the
moment plenty of loose
Reds 20
remember the wonderful Willie torn in
was in the UK Championship when it was
best of seven in and he he played Drew
Henry in the first session he was 71 up
and came back for the second session and
uh Alan Yu said to who was our MC at the
time of course said uh he said you’re
going to have to play well Willie
because uh you’re going to have to
scrape Drew Henry off the table tonight
you know and Willie looked at his watch
and he says well he says he’s got about
an hour cuz I have a table booked at
eight anyway Willie lost 98 Drew Henry
came back from 71 down to beat Willie
Thor 98 Drew and Willie had already had
the table book for dinner at 8:00 and he
was starting at 7 so there you go things
can change very very quickly
the great willly T what a
character yeah some great some great
stories anytime you were ever at a
snooker
event and there were an array of snooker
players in the vicinity especially in in
a players’s room where there’s current
and former greats he would walk in and
boom to the whole array of people who
was the greatest player in this room
until I walked in and the thing is you
knew he was gonna say that every single
time but it was still funny yeah I was
there one time in the Champions loung at
theu stay still when the players playing
in this Direction please I remember
being in the Champions lngs with Steven
Henry John Higgins Mark
Williams and uh Willie came in he he
said that and stood at the door and
looked around do anybody know he was the
best player until I walked in you know
and I said to Willie I said yes Willie I
said everybody
even he found the funny side of
that yeah always great around the The
Crucible and the world championship was
Willl torn of course in the commentary
book but just such a a wonderful
character away from the table as well
great stories his book if you’ve never
read his book any snooka fan out there
should go and uh try and get it off
Amazon or wherever you might find it in
your local book shop if it’s still in
print but his book is a it’s a very very
funny read what’s some great stuff
thorities in
there
meanwhile Scott Thon well this is just
an unbelievable
performance
24 what can Ryan they do about it just
got to wait for his chance he’s
suffering at the moment there though
he’s going to need that last red that’s
close to this cushion 57
that may be Ryan there is Saving Grace
particularly if this goes quite straight
on the
pink
25 the difference pink would be
21 shot if he if it is stead straight
just pot the pink and play a good safety
shot on the red get the red behind the
black and QQ ball into the
bul that’s what he’s going to
do yeah that’s the shot
keep the pressure on okay he’s got to
bring the red off the cushion but he’s
in control good Q ball and maybe L
snooker just keeping an eye on the other
scores same F 95 up was on a break of 27
but that break has come to an end Dave
Gilbert’s in the balls he’s on a break
of 47 as
well 84 up hoping to
Nick the 13th
Scott Donald
63 Scott Donaldson has given Ryan
Day a really difficult start to his
evening from a very
commanding 72 lead Jackson pige by the
way is close now to leaving noon Sanam
requiring Snookers in the 13th tied at
six frames a
piece we’ll have a look at that on table
five but we’ll just see
how Ryan responds here Jang Yun has
managed to get in on table three
so no no match winning break opportunity
for Hussein just
yet but what a blistering run of frames
by Scott Donaldson so to C we nine in a
row from 4-0 down against wuza and he
has the first
opportunity in frame 14 yeah that’s an
incredible performance is from 40 down
amazing Jo Conor 75
now NE Robertson just two away from the
winning line he and Jamie Jones have
gone off for their mids session break
Robertson leading
85 yeah we’ll just stay with this will
we see what happens because it’s such an
interesting match
now and and this could be a very pivotal
frame 31 in front is he going to take
the red on is he going to play a safety
shot oh he’s played a safety shot but
well I don’t like that shot at all he
could be in big trouble here he’s lost
the advantage Scot
THS now can Ryan Day find that Cube
while down behind the black here
no as he got cover on the blue is there
enough of the red if there’s enough of
the red he may be able to putt it that
wasn’t a very good shot from Ronde
either has he got the
snooker doesn’t look like
it but we don’t have
the camera angle to see Right Down the
Line unfortunately
maybe only a slight swerve maybe able to
hit it
direct could end up PO
this oh it was so
close as he left
it I think Scott Donaldson’s body
language indicates that he
has maybe that Q on the side rail
there oh that’s
unlucky well massive moments
in the overall story of this match
between Ryan day and Scott
Donaldson it was a fabulous opening
session of snooker from the
Welshman but it’s all going the way of
the Scots so far this
evening interesting drama on table late
Dave Gilbert was in with just the colors
remaining looking like he was going to
steal the frame he got a huge fluke on
the yellow that bounced around the
yellow pocket and went into blue middle
right that frame still going and the
difficulties
continue for Ryan day here let’s go over
to table four Cesar we break of 41 he’s
gone nine on the spin if he goes 10 on
the spin he is through to a second
successive Crucible having made the
semi-finals of course in such memorable
fashion 12 months
ago very very
impressed I thought this would be a
really close match to be honest and of
course we use it started off so well 40
up but how impressive is this
performance by Young C
we
incredible just looking for a bit
Insurance putting the trying to put the
blue s but
that’s a little bit careless could have
got that blue in the middle of the side
cushion just keeping a close eye on that
table eight there’s only three points in
it let’s go to table eight shall we
rather see what’s happening yes it looks
it looks
intriguing we’re down to just green
onwards as I mentioned Dave Gilbert had
a big fluke on the yellow looked like he
was going to clear the
table but then the fluke didn’t leave
him in a perfect position on the green
so the drama
continues yeah he’s played up very well
hasn’t he lovely control
nice Pace
gong comes to the table but he’s got it
well no problem hitting the GRE but
trying to get it safe as well got to
almost get a full ball contact and try
and knock it down towards the middle of
this top cushion beside the
black quick update for you Neil
Robertson Jamie Jones Robertson leading
85 Donaldson’s come back from 72 down to
level at seven a piece they’re on a
frame break on table two as V is one
visit away from a place in a third
successive Crucible campaign he’s 95 up
against Jang
Jun so xong did manage to hit that but
look where the green going oh that’s
unlucky isn’t it that’s
unlucky
however not so easy to control here for
D
gilbertt it’s an easy pot yes but not so
easy to get where he’d like to on the
brown could go wrong
this probably would have preferred in a
way that the the green was well maybe a
few inches away from the pocket that he
could steer the QQ ball around the back
of the black of maybe three or four
cushions down towards the the brown but
this is this is a lot more difficult
that it looks to get close to the brown
here and he doesn’t want to be straight
that was the
problem and he’s almost straight can’t
do much with the Q ball yeah it
wasn’t wasn’t straightforward
that if you’re tuning in with interest
on other tables Jackson paage against
noon Sanam Jackson 76 up they’re on a
mids session break how you panging 76 up
on Pang Jun suu they’re on adjacent
tables five and
six upang potentially playing his last
snooker tournament apparently he is
intending on returning home to
China trying his hand at pool needed a
lot of force on that and how well did he
hit that kend yeah that was a wonderful
shot had to force the angle and well
couldn’t have played a much better great
shot well Baron
Snookers
94 this is really good stuff from Dave
Gilbert against a very very capable
opponent in Xiao gong husin vfa
meanwhile I think we should head over to
Table
Three he’s back in the balls once again
he trails in the frame
Gilbert does indeed go 94 husin V hoping
to wrap up the match a match
remember in which he
trailed
3-0 this has been an excellent piece of
composure one it really has
well Dave henden is tucked into a pizza
he’s
refreshed he’s got the carbohydrates on
board and he’s ready to smoothly guide
you through the rest of the evening I’m
going to go and get in position for a
quick interview with hin faf as he
closes
out guaranteeing himself a third
successive Crucible appearance and in
some Style
yeah
so he still needs this pink little
bounce off the
cushion this is match ball and a first
qualifier from the evening and our ninth
in total will be Iran’s number one hin
vay the man from
Iran and it goes so H withi completes
victory over Jiang Jun by 10 frames to
five credit to Jiang Jun he’s run
through this tournament has been
terrific from round one to Judgment Day
made two centuries today but Hussein
Veri very impressive tonight pulling
away in this match from 54 up to win 105
and we’ll hear from him shortly and of
course he will find out tomorrow morning
who he’s going to play in the
draw Scott Donaldson unbelievable night
as he knocks in another long red all
five he’s won so far from 72
down so you was wondering will the
interval sort of make a difference it
doesn’t seem to have in this match
well he was hoping he’d be on that red
to left corner looking at one maybe to
left middle maybe to right corner
okay Hass V fire first winner tonight
he’s with
Rob hin many many congratulations a
performance of real composure from 3-0
down
yeah I was I wasn’t playing great to be
honest with you and uh after interval I
was thinking oh my God that was the
worst that was the worst uh performance
I’ve ever had in my life and I washed my
face and then I come back wake up and
then I after that I start playing and
then after that I start playing well so
the guy just unbelievable Potter he he’s
he’s one of the best Potter I’ve ever
seen in my life honestly he’s he’s
really talented he is he’s a very very
special young Prospect from China isn’t
he yeah he is he’s different and
he’s uh just he just pots everything
from everywhere just unbelievable it’s
hard to control those opponents you know
you don’t know what’s where you have to
put the C Ball you have to put the Q
ball in your
pocket now listen um a couple of years
ago little higher yeah a couple of years
ago you were giving a pine of blood to
get to The Crucible but now you’re
becoming a Serial performer at the
biggest stage this is your third in a
row and last year of course you beat
Ding and then you played Ronnie you’re
beginning to get familiar with the big
stage yeah it looks like it yeah I love
I love to just put myself in the big
events and stay in the big events as
much as I can and uh to show the good
performance and I I just love it this is
the reason I love to be in a big events
uh in a big crowd so I just love to be
in the center of attention you know yes
and you might think that her saying is
exaggerating that but I have very clear
memories of being at the Bara New York
for the UK championship and you being
halfway through a match against Mark
Selby and you were singing to yourself
at the end of a mids session break ready
to go back out you won’t be intimidated
by any name that comes out of the draw
tomorrow morning at quarter to 9 I don’t
care manate just I don’t care any
opponent just just put me there in The
Crucible I will play anyone I don’t care
to be honest and you will get a great
great reception Hussein back on the
biggest stage of all for the third
success of year many many
congratulations okay Dave one in seven
left to go thank you so much and I would
love I would like to say thank you to my
sponsor handmade sport company as well
for supporting and believing me thank
you so much cheers see you on the big
stage thank you bye-bye cheers byebye
yeah brilliant well done and uh yeah
dangerous well name in the draw
tomorrow see you next
week want to avoid you got to say
particularly the way he won it as well
he really stepped it up such a nice guy
as well and he’s done amazing things you
know for his country and the way he
plays the game yeah lovely guy well
delighted for him he used to live in
Ireland you know he used to when he came
over he lived in Ireland for quite a
while used to practice with him and uh I
think he’s going to be coming maybe back
to Sheffield wasn’t Darlington for a
while but yeah lovely guy and I’ll tell
you what though whoever gets him in the
draw you know they know they’re going to
be in for a really really tough one one
of the one of the ones they’d like to
avoid well Ryan day would love to find
some form that Assan the fight showed
he’s lost all five frames and this has
just gone slightly AR but CJ wi W is a
table four is also in the balance of
course C has w nine on the spin there 94
up from 4-0 down and he’s ahead in the
next W are just trying to CLA his way
back into it here we
go course we years made his debut at The
Crucible last year play Neil Robertson
and Robertson sort of monstered him a
bit at the end he made two 146s in three
primes has been tamping F 108 in the
last round of course CJ had that
dramatic win up Ben Mertens from 97
down needed Snookers in one of the
frames I got three 14 Sixers last week
would you believe best game of D I’ve
ever
had could have left a pause before the
punch line they can that’s the secret
timing comedy
I was I would have left the pause but it
looked like you were going to sort of
you’re going to break the punch line
before I got
there Keo just ran on a bit
there now can he pot this and somehow
get around back to the
green quite sure he’s even gone for it
is
he he is oh look at this first shot oh
how unlucky this could be the end now
that is so unlucky it was such a tough
part just trying to avoid the
black not quite sure he’s playing it
with a lot of check off the top cushion
or trying to just play it off two or
three cushions back up for the green but
so unlucky what it means is C Jo we
needs yellow to the middle and then the
green and he should be back at The
Crucible one of the stars of last year’s
World Championship came so close yeah to
reaching the
final two pots away from a return this
guy could win the World Championship I
mean if not if he gets there if not this
year but he’s going to be one to watch
there’s no doubt about that and okay be
the way he lost last year you know he
got down in history because it was one
of the greatest comebacks by Luca brel
but that may stand to him in a way he
needs this green and Snoop is required
in it goes he was 40 down yeah but he
turned it on is he going to get on
another run at The Crucible another
dangerous qualifier well what that says
to me Dave is that it says a lot about
his temperament doesn’t it you know his
composure his temperament even with his
four-nil down didn’t press the panic
button his opponent was playing great he
wins 10 frames in a row quite incredible
performance yeah well of course he knows
from experience that matches con turn
you know it happened the other way to
him yeah yeah and he’s a devastating
Potter and and a break Builder as well
so uh
yeah a lot of snooker fans will actually
really love him and give him a warm
welcome back to The Crucible this year
yeah terrific talent and because he’s
still only 21 and baring Snookers you
can’t blame wo for playing on he needs
two baring Snookers he’s going to be in
the Hat
tomorrow it’ll be our 10th qualifier
this year six more to be found over the
next couple of hours
well it’s not the best start I don’t
think unless this comes in behind the
pink no so just one good pot now and it
is over for
sure see Joey
heading back to The Crucible after a
poor start he turned it around in fine
Style 10 on the
spin there it
is and there’s the
handshake we’ll see Joey another trip to
The Crucible
beckons yeah very impressive just the
way he turned the match around because
you know 4-0 he could have got a bit
down on himself but it didn’t happen
and indeed he had breaks of 110 112 59
82 and
73 to get the match won so CJ looks kind
of comfortable in the end obviously it
wasn’t the way he started but he
finished strongly winning all five
frames of the last session let’s go back
to table 185 nil Robertson leads jamy
Jones the back after the interval Jones
in front in frame
14 so he’s lost all four frames so far
tonight but had an interval will that
change the momentum of this match
31 for those who uh maybe haven’t heard
the draw is in the morning 9 uh at 8:45
local
time it’s on BBC 5 live on the BBC
webite S as
well two hats of course top 16 in one
qualifies in the
other and the names will be drawn out
Mark Allen will be there
reacting finding out who he’s going to
get actually sha Murphy was there last
year wasn’t he C Jo was the man who was
drawn out against
him well wouldn’t it be funny if there
were R out again together
her at least he’s not an amateur this
time around I we won’t let sha Mor you
forget that
one
amateur 47
nice little cannon on the pink there to
the
left
53 well Larry who’s an year old lifelong
snooker player and watching in St Louis
Missouri I hope you’re enjoying the
coverage and I’m sure like us can’t wait
for The Crucible to start on Saturday
well I’ve had a message from Sha Murphy
Ken but on a family show I can’t read it
out I’ll show it you if you promise not
to read
it he’s listening I told you to see I
told you the top 16 he was one of them a
not happy about the amateur comment well
we can’t let you forget about that one
Sean come
on you love
it of course he’s come up against this
man a couple of times at The Crucible as
well Jeremy
Jones he’s now fighting to get back into
the match going well here 63 in front
still a couple of Reds needed though
she mindful of that red close to his
sleeve referee
hovering
60 little bit short of
pace missable
black supposed to safe and an knowy be
covering the pocket should he miss it
but he’s missed it as he oh
it was close good
po
67 oh heroics with this red just make
sure of it stopped the rush lost the
first four frames of this
evening yeah well played good good
response from Jamie
Jones yeah and this is what he needs to
do really wind frames in one visit just
keep mil Robertson cold if he can easy
to say that obviously it’s up to him to
try and do it fight for his place at The
Crucible on table seven Matt s has gone
into the interval 76 down to Joe o Conor
so that has turned around because it was
63 to OK Conor but Matt s is dug in
76 all to play for when they come back
it’s 76 Jackson paage over KN and
senom it’s 76 cha ping over
pangu seven each Scott Donaldson Ryan
day and it’s 94 Dave Gilbert over xia
gong of course our winners so far Hasan
Veri and C Joy
okay so it’s going to be 86 here we’ll
be back to see some of the next frame
but let’s try and keep it across as much
as we can table two Scott
Donaldson 7 each 28 each it was 72 to
Ryan day after the first
session Ryan D just attempted to escape
from a snooker left that red on all the
colors though are the other end of the
table
yeah so that was the problem there just
all the colors are down that end so this
Frame I think could be maybe a little
Tactical
okay so this as I said this Frame just
complicated where the colors are but
we’ll keep across it of course Jackson
paage on table five 76 up to no and
senom 28 behind he just potted a
red and he’s missed the green and he’s
walked away very quickly from
that fearing the worst here left no and
senam nicely
in Jones has made the centry brother way
there against Neil Robertson
[Applause]
s now there’s the pink part into the
left corner
pocket if it does he can hold for it
pink
and that
helps 26 point lead he can just tidy up
these loose Reds around the below the
pink well he’s held a spot there that’s
it’s
okay think goes on the black
spot been a really enjoyable match this
between these
two real hustle back and forth back and
forth yeah I mean it just underline
strength and depth in the game no and
sangam has been at ranking finals this
season Jackson paage was in a big
semi-final recently yeah in China but
both having to qualify because just so
many terrific players around
I think he’s going to win the frame from
this visit Dave let’s go over to table
two shall we because really drama
unfolding there and that with Ryan Day
72 up Scott Thomson in the ball
70 yeah incredible comeb back this the
frame was in the balance but the black
on it back on its spot now so obviously
all the colors were down the other end
before but things have changed still one
red
awkward isn’t it amazing though what
sport how it can turn around and turn
around very very quickly no matter what
sport it may be you
know things can change you know a little
and sometimes it can
hinge on a frame that shot maybe even
that Ryan Day possibly should have
gotten those first four frames just to
get that eight frame on the
board have knocked his confidence given
his opponent confidence and Scott
Donaldson well he’s just been
magnificent in this second session so
far still a bit to do
here but
8 point lead he’s got a chance and Po in
this green he
could try and knock that red off left
hand side cushion and try and promote it
towards that middle
pocket miss the cannon but still he’s in
a strong position 21 point
lead yeah when he first qualified in
2019 in this round he was actually he
was 7 to up to luning and he won 109 so
he knows that it can turn around he got
the win on that occasion but that’s sort
of experience from the other side of it
if you
like so we’ll leave this for now but go
back to table one not sangan did win
that frame we were watching as Ken
predicted so seven each there but uh
is’s hting up now Jeremy Jones of course
he made a sentury in the last frame so
he was 54 up he was 85
down but uh just made that good Century
break he always had this sort of
bustling way about the
table of players body language is
different but he has this very sort of
competitive air about him
seven having a good look see if that
black pots into the bottom right corner
pocket we’ll s find out from his next
next
shot looks like it
does he’d like to leave a little angle
well he hasn’t on I thought if he left a
little angle on the black that he could
have knocked the red away from the black
spot he hasn’t done that you see the Q
ball has traveled it’s a little bit
further up the table than he would have
liked
just got to be careful here cuz the
black it’s got to make sure the QQ ball
is low enough down just beneath where
the black is now so that that’s what
he’s afraid of so you got to pot the
black leave the Q ball just to sort of
balls wi away from where the black is
now so you can still be on this red into
the corner
pocket he’s just a little bit afraid of
it so that’s why he’s run around off two
cushions but well he hasn’t done a good
it’s okay thought he was going to
be tight to the
pink digging in here Jamie Jones isn’t
he he’s not going away good signs for
him 21 yeah I mean we talk about you
know you got to get the other player
Under Pressure well you only do that by
playing well and you’re starting to do
that after the interval it maybe he just
came at the right time for
him he’s looking to qualify for a sixth
time so he’s got through this judgment t
five times before is’s no mean
feet it’s okay
26 it’s a loid having said that it’s
something to C these
Reds right on the spot in case of any
foul oh wow yeah well he actually was a
foul but more
seriously
in
yeah four
yeah yeah those problems
escalated so we watch it again y has
right on the case even though jamy Jones
did own up he knew it don’t get out and
boy Amber has
the best referees in the business yeah I
mean that that problem escalated from
just that one shot where he didn’t get
nicely on the black to move the red
away just got progressively worse for
Jamie
Jones well this is a big visit now
because if you can get to 96 then you
fan seem strongly to get the match one
proven winner and closer out of matches
over the years big
finals big
stages
seven big crowd as well watching Neil
Robertson himself commended the setup
after his previous eight Victory he said
the last time he qualify was in PR
Statin where of tiny cubicles the
Holiday Camp there it was a very sort of
different environment
yeah one man and his dog was watching me
when I was up
there and they left halfway through the
first frame the dog didn’t want to be
there no
no I don’t think I wanted to be there
after they left well that’s gone wrong
P Robertson so his FR still very much in
the
balance right let’s go around somewhere
else though where do you
think zon trying to come back against
Dave Gil but it have to be some comeback
because he’s 94 down but he’s 60 in
front
here I mean I’ve told this story before
but years ago in this round Nick Walker
LED Rod La the 90 at the halfway stage
and of course in the couple of hours in
between it was friends and family when
you’re playing ni get us tickets passes
all that 94 at the interval okay well
you know you’ll weather the storm 15
minute bre went 98 and he won 108 so he
did win but my word it got sticky wow
and of course I mean even John Higgins
against Neil Robertson two years ago in
that TOUR Championship final was 94 up
lost 10 n it can happen it can happen we
know
that 9 N to 998 wow
against Rod as well who of course is so
determined as you know yeah yeah what
time did I finish
her it wasn’t
early so that’s another frame on the
board for Good dong he’s sticking in but
as you said a long way the CLA himself
all the way back
so yeah it should be 95 but uh there a
much closer match on table two Ryan Day
Scott Donaldson it was 72 to day seven
each now they’re on the last Red here
four points in it in frame 15 yeah this
R is not pble so it’s just going to play
a little
snooker he got to be careful here Scott
on son if he rolls up dead weight his
next shot he’s going to be even in more
trouble
so he might have
to hit this with a bit of pace or he
could try and play it off two
cushions try and just nudge that red
past the brown and maybe Nestle the Q
ball in behind the brown but it’s the
problem about that shot if it pays off
or if if it’s successful yes great but
it’s a sort of maybe two and 10 shot if
it doesn’t work out he’s going to be in
big
trouble yeah now you see the problem and
this is going to be so difficult to
escape from he should have really hit
that as hard as he could and just hope
for the
best oh that’s a poor shot from Ry day
why didn’t you just knock it towards the
corner pocket okay it would have been
easier to hit but you got to knock it
into a a sort of a an open area that
it’s going to be pable if your
opponent doesn’t hit the the red now
there could be a lot of points given
here cuz this is certainly not easy to
hit very small
Target it’s a good line it’s a very good
line as it got the length as it got the
legs
oh yeah good effort but Leo skin
replaces the weight yeah at least he’s
got the line there as well you know at
least he knows he just got to hit it
with a bit more Pace but
still not
easy get more Pace this time he’s gone
on the inside he’s going to miss it
again
oh so
close yeah
right Scott Thomson not impressed with
the Miss call but well I think it’s
going to be a Miss until he hits it so
I’m only two pushing Escape yeah the
problem is if he can get as close as he
got it means you can hit it
yeah he’s having a look down the line I
think he’s got it this time great shot
really good stuff well
[Laughter]
played okay well this is going to take
some resolving where the red is so let’s
uh go elsewhere table five KN and senal
seven each with Jackson page and nicely
in here for 87 he’s 44 in front as we
pick it up
live
real seesaw battle this match
as I said earlier he he won 10 n on the
black last year against
jander poed the last black to the green
pocket it was uh such a dramatic finish
and could be heading potentially
something similar here Jackson page did
lead
5-3 but is he about to fall behind
here would
be think for the first time since
not on win the first
frame pretty cool character n and Sham
we saw that obviously with the maximum
he made yeah he’s very cool
has this mannerism of well you see him
gets his feet together lines himself up
using the sight right meod of
course still working with Steve
FY I
think now watch the way he lines himself
up Pier stands here always the same for
every single
shot got to have some discipline to do
that but he does it well
6 right he’s going to win this Frame so
let’s go to table one because it looks
like jamy Jones is going to win that
frame he’s in
front as we pick it up looking to close
to 87 it’s getting interesting again
this it looked like Robertson was
pulling away being pegged back and once
again Dave the interval how it can
change momentum in a match Robertson
winning the first four tonight went to
the mids session interval come back
and Jamie Jones taking
charge very interesting
indeed yeah credit to Jamie jnes 39 the
way he’s recovered just check in the
scores he pots this Robertson needs
Snookers 40 little smattering of flaws
there so yeah this match is uh very much
back in the balance again
44
45 okay so that’s Jamie Jones’s frame
but let’s go back to the Scott DS and
Ryan Day frame we were watching
Donaldson’s actually now in a different
snooker here he is he’s now 17 behind so
these points are racking up on the Green
good he’s got
[Laughter]
there yeah chance
again get that white down behind the
black oh he’s bit short with the Q ball
wow what a mistake from Ryan
Day leaving the pod
on not getting that green
safe well Scot Dawson on the comeback
Trail well and truly can he knock this
in what a shot what a shot oh that is
fantastic to knock the brown into play
play there I mean if he doesn’t hit the
brown it’s almost
impossible to PO the brown on that
cushion and get sort of close to the to
the
blue par because you would have had to
play it with a lot of pace along that
top cush along that ball cushion whereas
now well he’s knocked the brown he’s got
a little angle on the brown as well so
you can play it with Top Spin you could
play it with screw
back and maybe there was no angle from
our position it looked like he had some
sort of an angle to to get over towards
the blue
but obviously not so just made sure of
the
brown play a good safety
shot now on the blue and and keep that
pressure on because there is pressure on
Ryan day he can make a
mistake playing any type of shot
here just to say noens senko made a
century we’re watching him win that
frame so he’s 87 upon Jackson page
playing good
stuff to Edge back in front this match
though really is on a knife
edge such an important frame
particularly for Ryan day I think you
know just to stop the rod and get
himself one frame ahead again because
well his head must be spinning at the
moment Ry day doesn’t know what to hit
him not a great shot from Scott dson
could have easily doubled the blue
across onto the other side cushion he’s
going to be you’d expect him to be in
trouble here trying to hide the blue
behind the
black get that Cube all up the table and
he hit a little bit harder than he would
have liked and hasn’t got the snooker
already caught that
thing oh barely moved
great shot took the paint off the
blue thanks I think he’s still got a a
piece of the blue here though he’s not
it’s not
snookered but wow this
is very difficult shot this could go
wrong oh
well well I’ll tell you what you won’t
see a better safety sh shot and that
tonight that was
remarkable not run with his eyes
David no I mean the this is all skill
and we talk about the breaks don’t we
but the those sort of shots just uh oh
unbelievable really at this stage as
well with everything on the line what a
brave shot out to
play full
11 and 1 12 ft of the
table oh this is dangerous this is
dangerous could leave this on you know
and he only needs the
blue but
what well what a shot to take on when
you’ve lost five frames in a row you
need the blue and this is a very very
Twitchy
blue could miss this you know this for
87 Ryan Day trying to stem the tide
there wow so Scott Donaldson gets his
chance to make it six in a
row why has he played it like that why
hasn’t he just played it dead
weight well his head’s a bit scrambled
maybe and he can miss anything I
know he’s played that totally the wrong
way Ryan day should have let the blue
just drop into the pocket didn’t need to
play it with
Pace you can miss it with Pace he’s
replaying it in his mind it’s too
late Scott Donson the black for 87 what
a run he’s been
on and the Run continues if he knocks
this in 72 down 87 up Scott Donson in
the ascendancy now Ryan Dave with a lot
to think about as we go to Table Six
this FR a little locked down although
this Green’s heading towards the pocket
there we
go but the brown is
safe yeah 76 to Cha Pang though with the
last off actually
it was 53 to Pang but Chia won the last
of the afternoon and now he’s just edged
in
front so there going to be well he’s
been a little lucky if he’s got the
snooker not
quite so table seven Jo Conor Matt selt
let’s just check up on those two it was
63 to OK Conor when they resumed it’s 76
now to Joe o Conor so Matt seltz won
three of the first four and he’s in here
in the next Dave Gilbert still 95 over
xuong and the Neil Robertson jamy Jones
frame 16 it’s 87 to Robertson nothing
potted yet there we’ll be over to see
some of that shortly but uh we want to
just try and drop in as in as many
matches as we can you’re just joining us
to same Veri and C Wei already qualified
so there’s six matches left to be
resolved Matt selt of course got a bit
of a track record in the qualifi he’s
qualified four
times Jo Conor has not of course made it
through and that could be a factor in uh
the rest of this
match Ken has gone to uh have a short
break so Rob Walker steps into the
breach very exciting uh set of matches
in progress Rob at the
moment incredible Dave absolutely
incredible drama I was just transfixed
in the Press Room there watching the
dying Embers of that frame that could be
an absolutely crushing moment for Ryan
Day who looked like with that
opportunity for the blue as though he
was going to stop the run of successive
frames but not to be and Scott Donaldson
finds himself two away from the winning
line what a comeback that would be from
72
down yeah I mean it’s interesting the
psychology of snooker now because of
course now he’s sort of favorite so he’s
got to cope with that but you’d rather
be in his position than Ryan day it’s
Ryan D’s got to get himself together
anyway Matt selt seems to be doing
exactly that here now then you could
play into the cluster of four get these
Reds into play and open the frame up off
the Ping
oh man well that’s what he tried doing
what are you doing he’s saying to
himself the problem is he has opened
them up and he’s left them on for Joo
Connor and he’s absolutely distraught
that’s the thing with Matt he will let
you know what he
thinks yeah just it’s the classic
divided concentration you know playing
the cannon into the
Reds and just slightly taking his off
the pot
huge match this for Joe oconor it seem
surprising in some ways that the
Scottish open runner up from a couple of
years ago has never played at The
Crucible he’s so
talented three frames away but he knows
the job is absolutely not done against
Matt s just yet and and what a what a
spirited effort from Jamie Jones never
having beaten Neil Robertson seven times
they’ve played the Australians won all
of them and Robertson at five up and all
of a sudden Jamie Jones 87 and it’s
Jones at the table again although
they’ve gone a little bit tip tappy but
Jones on a break of 16 he not rolling
over lots of people assuming Neil
Robertson would Steamroller his way
through his two matches here at the
English Institute but that’s not
occurring on table one and we’ll keep a
close eye on that great effort from
Jamie yeah it’s one of those the one of
the seven matches they played was at The
Crucible and Robertson won 102 I think
if they played at The Crucible it’d be
quite a heavy favorite but this is a
different psychology coming
here it’s it’s the sort of the the
classic case of thinking about what
could go wrong or trying to kick those
negative thoughts at Bay you know I
might not be at the Cru believeing so
that has a long way to run we’ll be back
over there shortly but let’s just see if
Joe Connor can press on
here Chia and Pang are on the brown by
the way there a long battle on that
brown in frame
14 Chow 76 up
and uh Gilbert andong not not much down
in frame 15 there 95 to Gilbert s still
87 over page early stages of the next
frame con of trying to bring a few into
play as well and that’s worked out
pretty
good these red
seems now all pot so chance here 4
86 interested to find out if he does win
Rob I’m sure you’ll ask him if he’s ever
even been to The Crucible you know to
watch or has he ever been in that Arena
because it’s such a specific Vibe when
you go in
there I’ll definitely ask him that and
he he of course would be our only
debutant this year and The Crucible
crowd well they they’re amongst the best
in the world when it comes to being
respectful and and and and being vocal
at the right time they absolutely love a
debut ton because of the intimate layout
of the Arena itself they feel like
they’re part of the individual’s moment
and and and what a moment to walk down
those stairs and hear your name for the
very first time
yeah watched that so many times with
other people of course on
television even before that we get to
see on Eurosport the from the corridor
the players lining up and you know how
how are people looking sometimes they’re
chatting sometimes they’re just standing
nervously as they wait for you to get
your queue to introduce them it’s all
part of the sort of Crucible feel and
and
experience I I imagine that must be the
worst moment when you’re when they’re
almost kind of the only way you can
describe it they’re they’re almost kind
of prowling around they’re like caged
animals aren’t they and and the cameras
are in their face they’re aware that the
whole place is about to erupt all eyes
will be upon
them but until they hear their name they
they’re they’re they’re just kind of
lost in those corridors awful awful
moments I’m sure yeah very nerve racking
but all part of uh it’s all worth it to
get out and play
there okay we’re just going to jump off
this table because Table Six have quite
a lengthy frame but they’re down to the
blue and uh Pang jangu just had a chance
to pot it but missed it so CH ping here
needs the three colors there’s been a
couple of black ball frames already in
this match
actually but this is uh to move 86 in
front
remember he’s only played at the cruci
once that was way back in
2012 you mentioned those
two black ball frames they they may have
both gone the way of Pang so this would
be um this would be a nice moment for
chow
[Applause]
okay so 86 but what’s happening on table
one I’m sure a lot of people are
wondering well let’s find out 87 of
course to Robertson it was 85 Jamie
Jones won the last two and he’s in here
198 in
front trying to level the
match really pile the pressure on the
shoulders of the
Australian the last play Robertson had
to beat to qualify was Gerald Green back
in
2006 the last time he wasn’t at the
cruise bow was 20 years ago 2004 and of
course he was very early in his career
then he hadn’t won any tournaments to
that
point seven
eight yes Neil Robertson’s place as one
of the greats is assured but he won’t be
resting on those Laurels he wants to get
back up amongst the sports
Elite I I fancied Jamie Jones to make a
good match of this beforehand he’s a
fascinating
character very strong mentally I
think I spent a day in jail with him in
Bristol because we’re both ambassadors
for Jesse May children’s hospice at home
and and we were stuck in a jail with
Barry Hearn for the day trying to raise
some money for uh and the profile of the
cause and it’s just you know you sitting
around in a Cell for 8 hours apart from
listening to some fabulous unrepeatable
stories from Barry Hearn you know I got
a closer insight into jae’s character
and he’s I’m going to replace it with a
red here and then I make sure this one
go that’s interesting one of the balls
is chipped well I what have you seen
that hendo even the balls are feeling
the pressure here yeah Yan saying he
he’ll replace the red with another one
and then he’ll replace the the chip one
after the
frame oh little Interruption well
spotted there by one of the best
referees in the business but I was just
saying there I just I like Jam’s
character he he’s he’s not someone who’s
over and he’ll relish this chance
tonight yeah of course he was off the
tour wasn’t he and and and came back we
know the story there and sat to s of
showed a lot of resolve really to start
again and he’s shown that resolve here
in this
[Applause]
match Ryan Day by the way in in the next
frame against uh Scott donalson 49 in
front
so chance to make it a
all after that pretty what looked like a
pretty crushing blow at the end of that
last frame but you know you see
sometimes what you think are massive
turning points they don’t turn out to be
it’s only in retrospect we can actually
decide whether they were or
not well missing that blue on a
45-minute frame could have absolutely
crushed Ryan day so the best way to
respond is to get back to the table and
start potting and he’s on a break of 51
and Counting just 9 minutes be a perfect
way for him to try and
help put the bad Runner frames behind
him
23 red wriggled in
meantime 30
no
31 just to say I’m not I don’t know what
the problem is on table seven but OK
Conor and sell have actually left the
table so Joe oconor was in as we saw but
some
issue scoreboard has been paused
so hopefully whatever it is it’ll only
be
temporary Shong looked like he was
guaranteed to go 96 but it’s Dave
Gilbert at the table now needs a snooker
oh but he’s now just uh has I say that
he’s just uh just conceded and gone off
so it is 96 37 yeah and getting a little
sticky there Gilbert s made the running
all day but just Mr blackler didn’t he
as you say needed a sneaker but
96 and Ryan D broken down as well
actually so he was in but he’s not won
the frame
yet well jamy Jones has overhit that one
so that may be end a break but we’re
going to jump P table too cuz Scott
Donaldson there’s one safe R obviously
that’s going to be the problem but it’s
half a chance here to steal another one
if he wins this Frame then Ryan dayve
really does have it all to do he was in
he broke down donalson okay it’s not
straightforward but he has some sort of
chance yes as we were looking at the
scores we thought it was a perfect way
for Ryan day to banish the
disappointment of that 45 minute epic
when he missed the
blue down the
rail what a turnaround from Scott
Donaldson and of course we had that
scenario with him and Ryan Day last year
on Judgment Day when he wasn’t
well so he’s got to develop this red
yeah this is the key shot isn’t it if if
this comes off and he lands on the red
he’s a massive favorite for
97 is he going to just flick it out oh
it’s a great effort it’s not quite just
not
quite yeah little sigh
just to say Jamie Jones did break down
he’s 53 in front there’s still 67 on and
a couple of Red Save favor him on table
one we’ll keep half an eye on table five
as well Dave not on Sanam Trails by just
a point just the colors left on the
table he leads 87 so it’s Jackson paage
to try and draw level or Sanam to move
within one of the winning line yeah
Conor and selt have returned so it was
only a couple of minutes break I don’t
know what the issue was but anyway
hopefully no more
interruptions so Scott dson came so
close to flicking that red on
now okay Ryan day’s in front but all the
colors on the spots basically so the
frames anyone’s whoever pots the red
obviously if it’s Ryan Day snooker is
needed if it’s Donaldson chance for the
clearance
bearing in mind how the last six or
seven frames have gone this almost feels
like a must-win frame for Ryan day but
he’s gone for the red and yeah he just
caught the knuckle is it going to keep
running not
quite that could easily have been left
on tense moments here in this frame in
this match
looking for the snooker to really put
him in trouble and that’s what he’s got
yeah this is trouble Ryan Day tapping
the table in acknowledgement got to get
it
safe well
it’s a chance it could be easier but
it’s a
chance one good pot if he lands on a
color then what a chance for 97 for
Scott Donaldson and seven frames in a
row not to be
the red is just r on top of the pink so
not
potable Joe o Conor by the way right on
the verge of
86 a half century
break just the blue pink and black left
on the table so Matthew S require
Snookers well now the boots on the other
foot fact Scott Donson didn’t pop the
red gave Ryan the chance to play what
was actually a good snooker
oh absolutely brilliant drilled long
blue from Joe o Conor so it is indeed 86
now OK Conor two frames away from a
famous Crucible
debut C Pang 86 against Pang Jung
suu Robertson close to requiring
Snookers Jamie Jones has almost done
three on the spin here from 85 to 8
all Donaldson this time he has to get
the red save it’s all Ryan Day needs
it’s a bit of double kiss he’s not going
in surely he not going in oh wow what a
thing to
happen what a thing to happen and well
he’s kind of got a shot at the green he
needs a color in actually but what a
fluke that could be that could be the
biggest fluke of the qualifiers he’s
looking at the scoreboard he knows he’s
got to pot something he is on this green
just about
fabulous fabulous long red by Neil
Robertson by the way just about hanging
on in this latest frame let’s just stay
with this for a little bit shall we Dave
before we head off to table one
oh but he’s missed the green so the
flute in the
end not really significant he needs a
snooker
now so we’ll uh keep across that looks
like Ryan day’s going to make it eight
all after all but here’s Neil Robertson
trying to get back into this
Frame I got him with that red that Rob
described
[Applause]
Neil Robertson three Neil Robertson
paying full respect to Jamie Jones he is
being made to work tremendously hard for
what would be his 20th consecutive
Crucible
appearance but Jones is not going away
R day has done enough to win that frame
what a dramatic few moments that was so
eight
each and you know I I don’t know what
your thoughts are Dave but it’s it’s an
awful situation it’s no one’s fault with
when there’s a massive fluke but I never
like to see a match turn purely on a
fluke it would have been hard to see
psychologically how Ryan would have
recovered from that bearing in mind the
way this evening’s session has gone thus
far it’s true although I always think
you can always scroll back in a frame
and for example Ryan day was in and he
broke down now if he doesn’t break down
Scott Donson can’t fluke a ball he won’t
think like that because it’s not very
easy to but you can always sort of go
back to an earlier point and think well
if you hadn’t done that he couldn’t do
that that’s easy for us to say watching
it of course but when you’re involved in
the match you don’t see it that way but
anyway he didn’t win the frame off it
and it’s eight a piece and it’s a best
of three and Ryan day has having lost
six on the spin he’s got himself back
level now Jamie Jones 58 in
front so just needing one ready it’ be a
very thin cut to the middle he’s coming
around to have a look it’s very thin
bit of a stretch as
well maybe it’s too
thin so maybe just a safety got the
brown safe which obviously is in his
favor can’t get comfortable playing this
shot
oh he’s gone to pop frying ball I guess
he felt there was a bit of
security but just not quite over the
line
yet shiau dong by the way in the 17th is
in on a break of 44 clawing his way back
from 94 it’s 96 and Dave Gilbert might
begin to feel a little bit uncomfortable
if shiao gong’s current break continues
and he ends up pulling back to 97 we’ll
keep an eye on that one it’s on table
eight Jackson paage and not on shankam
by the way on five they’re still on the
colors green onwards remaining
key moment shanam
87 Jackson page hoping to to draw level
at eight a piece which we’ve just seen
Scott Donson and Ryan
Day mve to a joint level after 16 frames
it’s all beginning to Bubble towards a
beautiful conclusion Dave I was just
thinking that it’s like the kettle’s
sort of boiling isn’t it and you know in
about an hour’s time it’s going to sort
of come fully to the boil all these
matches are going to conclude probably
around about the same
time try and keep across all the action
for you
just stay on this table for the moment
Sno it here
Jones he’s trying to flick off one well
he’s C it all wrong he’s C it too thick
so this is a chance for Robertson but of
course he needs blacks of all the Reds
he’s 58 behind with 59
on so he needs to get on the black off
the next
red we’ll stay with this shu Dong’s
break goes to 58 he’s closing in on 97
balls look nicely spread for him at the
moment ordinarily he’d play the red to
Middle it’s easier but he needs to stay
on the black so this needs good queuing
I mean this is the man for good queuing
really straight as an arrow normally but
there’s pressure on it as
well oh it got close to
it hasn’t left it though
now let’s jump to table five they’re on
the blue 51 each Jackson page and KN and
senom in goes the blue senom potting it
trying to get 97 here he needs the pink
to do exactly that
well it could have been a lot easier
it’s a little cut back coming around to
look at the potting angle oh it’s one of
those dicey ones isn’t it
it’s a sort of different version of the
the Steve Davis black this in some
ways all those years ago 1985 for those
wondering here we go 97 if he pots
it and it doesn’t go in wow so Jackson
Pig gets out of his chair now he’s got a
control position for the black here
obviously the Pink’s admissible but it’s
Landing nicely on the black so he
doesn’t leave a pressure
black but another dramatic frame here in
an evening full of
them has it looking is it going to
bounce off the top
cushion it’s not really so it’s a little
cut back it’s one of those you’re kind
of fancing for it but given the
situation anything’s missable could have
been easier but this for 18 sangam has
missed the black for 97
Jackson paig has not missed the black so
eight a piece another close one another
match in the
balance now we’re going to go to table
eight because Dave Gilbert is in he’s
behind in the frame but he’s 96 up 53
behind he’s just potted a
red trying to get this match one trying
to get himself to the Cru bow for what
would be 10th time
[Applause]
I remember speaking to him a few times
about his various appearances at The
Crucible this would be his sixth in a
row and remember he made his debut way
back in 07 and he was still pretty much
just a part-timer by his own admission
saying
I just thought that was it I might play
at The Crucible once and that would that
would satisfy my my ambitions
but kept plugging
on had a couple of breakthroughs and
then I think as you said earlier on
today Dave was a great reminder I’d
forgotten he he’d risen as high as 10th
in the
world it wasn’t just that epic run to
the world championship semis couple of
semis at the Masters when he’s on his
game and on his day he’s absolutely magn
magnificent to watch yeah and I tell you
what this is a good chance now there
that last thread on the right hand side
he’s got to get nicely on that but
basically everything else is on so one
last push for the line one last effort
for maybe the not so angry farmer in a
few minutes
time I think we’re already seeing aren’t
we we saw yesterday and today the
strength of the qualifiers this year
could arguably be the the greatest ever
already tonight a V and CJ have made it
through they Gilbert’s a former
semi-finalist we’ve got of course a
former champion in the mix here Neil
Robertson hoping to join
them various other dangerman as
well well this feels like the key shot
now landing on this last red
play to nudge it
out
well it’s one of those it could have
been
easier thin cut to middle or he takes it
to corner or he doesn’t take it on at
all there the three choices he’s got
looks like the thin
clip and in it goes now where’s the
white that’s the key part of this just
land on something it’s pretty
good it’s pretty good
he’s nearly there Dave and you can hear
a pin drop in the English Institute of
sport everybody realizing the
significance here almost
there oh hang on just caught the blue
and well it’s much tougher now and of
course the green won’t have to pop the
green into the yellow pocket so this has
gone wrong really
little ruthful look on Dave’s face
there nothing’s ever straight forward in
this game is
it still could take the green to middle
or he could just play the sneaker
terrific pot that is a terrific pot he’s
going for broke here he’s going for the
winning line he’s just about it seems
held Jong
off can he just close this out
now they Gil he started the match really
well this morning right from the off he
was looking confident he was looking
determined in the mood to just get the
job done
today because he led 5
n he
led
72 and he needs pink and black to win 10
six
this is a terrific clearance it wasn’t
straightforward great yellow actually
great yellow to land on the green to
Middle good pot as well the black for
victory for Dave Gilbert to be our third
qualifier this evening in it goes
terrific break from Dave Gilbert and he
joins the qualifiers into the hat for
the draw tomorrow morning it’s gone
eight each on table one Neil Robertson
and Jamie Jones Jones has won the last
three let’s go to table two it’s eight
each here as well it’s 8 each Jackson PA
and no and senom 86 J ping over pank
jungu and 86 Joe Connor over Matt
cell we’ll hear from Dave
shortly if you’re just joining us it was
72 to Ryan Day 87 to Scott Donson Ryan
Day won the last frame just to stop the
rock but
match wide open
clearly Ken’s rested up and he’s
returning for the dumon of the
evening yeah and well it’s exciting
isn’t it I must
say that’s missed that’s another mist
shot with the rest for Scott dson cost
him in the last round that Miss
green and this is well certainly not
easy red bit of traffic to navigate
through with the Q
ball
oh anything can be missed here now at
the
moment so much pressure on these lads
particularly Ryan Day who had a 72 lead
I mean he would never have
foresaw the situation of
Adar okay well we saw that terrific
clearance from Dave Gilbert there and
he’s now speaking with Rob
Walker Dave Gilbert safely through to
The Crucible your sixth consecutive 10th
appearance overall beautiful clearance
there to shut out Xiao gong yeah it was
a it’s a lovely way to finish when you
make a big clearance you know he was
coming back strong and looked a million
dollars uh the second session he really
struggled the first session I had a big
lead but it weren’t because I was
playing well I was just winning the
scrappy frames but uh yeah I wouldn’t
wanted to go any more frames you know um
I was struggling out there I thought the
table was really difficult today um
delighted to make the dish and and how
satisfying that you now get to finish
your season at The Crucible yeah well
you you always want to be The Crucible
you know uh otherwise you want to be on
mars or the moon or something and avoid
it you know so it’s it’s nice to be get
to go and have a go there and how close
do you feel bearing in mind you know
you’ve come through you know some tough
matches to get here how close are you to
being towards your best uh well the
other day the table was beautiful I
played really well and you know I
probably had seven or eight one visit
one visit you know I was scoring really
well whereas when the table’s a bit hard
heavier like that I struggle but um I’ve
put a lot of work in the last four weeks
since we’re not going to China I’ve
literally just practiced all been in the
gym you know I’ve hardly played for two
years so I thought come on may as well
try for the Sheffield and Andy Lee’s
been uh been with me every day helping
me out so yeah I’m playing a lot better
than I was ah so so so you were you were
fired up for this campaign you you you
got dedicated again how how many hours a
day were you practicing yeah I’ve been
doing you know four or five five hours
and hitting the gym hard and watching
what I eat and all that yeah cuz I’ve
like you know I’ve missed two big events
this year where I’ve just pulled out and
you know bombed out in the UK so to be
like in the 20s on the one year list
remarkable really for the lack of effort
I’ve had you know so I’ve kind of Saved
My Season and and possibly my ranking
going going forward you know if you win
matches at The Crucible you can soon get
back to where you want to be well it’s
great that you’ve got that appetite back
it’s a fantastic Victory and I look
forward to pulling your name out of the
hat tomorrow quarter to nine will you be
watching
no well you’ll probably everybody will
text won’t they you know you will get
plenty of messes Tuesday or a Wednesday
I keep getting Saturday Sunday morning
10:00 I don’t want that session it’s
terrible we shall see Dave fantastic
well done see you at The Crucible cheers
thanks yeah well done to DAV a terrific
clearance to get it one and stop the
comeback and uh another dangerous
qualifier for sure former semi-finalist
of course 5 years ago 2019 took John
Higgins the distance
[Music]
now here on table one this could be
going the distance eight each Neil
Robertson and Jamie Jones it was 85
Robertson he’s first in though here in
frame
17 can tell you Matt selts pulled one
back so it’s 87 to Joo
Conor
oh poor shot from n Robertson be so
disappointed with
that not sure why he didn’t go between
brown and yellow there and spin it off
ball cushion left hand side cushion back
up for that red just to the right of the
blue
Robertson 14 well when he got to 85 and
he was playing good stuff you did sort
of have visions of him crossing the line
comfortably it’s not going to be that
now this could get very edgy later yeah
I have to
say hats off to the way Jamie Jon has
played just it’s going close to the
pocket I think he’s going to leave it is
he yeah he has although it’s pretty
tight to the cushion this it’s not a
gimme that’s why NE is having a good
look at it it’s not over the pocket it’s
just a a little bit away it’s not firmed
for this to be
missable and certainly not easy to
control yeah there you go
Robson really failing it out there no
doubt about that
one
he’s got a nice angle on the brown here
natural path of the cuq ball just past
the blue leave this red left it the pack
into this left corner
pocket
oh well Jamie Jones one he needed to
sort of soft screwed that the brown in
just to wind the angle with the Q ball I
think he’s left Neil Robertson on the
red he’s had a good look but I think
he’s got enough of it the pot we can get
on the black
not many people have left at all they
absolutely engrossed as we are here the
audience and
magnificent throughout these qualifiers
from day
one yeah it’s the other good thing about
the 5:00 start isn’t it it’s not too
late for people you know say it’s only
8:00
now yeah I think that’s one of the good
things about the earlier start and as we
were talking about if they could start
that a little bit earlier in the morning
time maybe
10:00 just cu the players a little bit
more time
to
recuperate back to the hotel have
something to eat show before the second
session
you a lot of matches even though they
were like 109 few 109 last night they
weren’t didn’t go on that late did they
you
know pretty quick no real sort of
slugfests no it’s true I think so much
of the snooker scen has been attacking
people are trying to win they’re not
trying to tie the game up necessarily
obviously there’s been safety when there
has to be but that’s the modern game now
try and get these matches
won Robertson trying to get this Frame
one and just failing to pop that so this
is still early stages
here let to keep you across what’s
happening on table two a very dramatic
match between Ryan day and Scott
Donaldson it’s eight a piece and Ryan
day because he won the last having won
having lost six on the spin 11 points in
this
one that was a good part better than it
looked because he Mr the blue into that
corner pocket
custom the 15th
frame
yeah now it’s imperative pots this red
it leaves a nice angle on the black just
to disturb those two
Reds that’s a quick glance at the score
just drop this red in on hold try and
distor those two reds next to the
yellow oh oh would you believe it
anything is missable out
there anything is missable that’s just
pressure you see more balls missed in
these qualifiers at the world
championship than you will see from
these players throughout the whole
season I’ve no doubt about
that all desperate let’s walk down those
stairs at The Crucible
Scott’s got a Lely Angle now he’s got to
hit the
middle red the red directly above the
black yeah that’s the one
perfect okay could have been a little
bit
nicer but it’s
okay he’s got the red to the left Center
he’s got the red open into the yellow
pocket top left hand corner pocket as we
look he prefers it into the left Center
looks pretty straight on the blue I
don’t think he can get close to this red
so you may just yeah play it somewhere
in the vicinity of the right center
pocket
this well it’s far from
Easy oh wiped its feet but a good part
nonetheless now does he trying
move the red off the top cushion or does
he just get in behind
it gets in behind it but he doesn’t want
to be straight it’s not great that angle
is not
good 25
behind he needs the red and a
color and if he tries to force it with a
bit of pace well we seeing the
Mist what’s he going to do
he’s making sure of it well he tried to
make sure of
it well that was yeah the angle wasn’t
great bad shot black to
Red yeah course it’s changed in his mind
as well because he was chasing the game
and chasing the game and now he’s sort
of favorite almost the way he’s come
back and that was putting maybe a bit of
pressure on Scott Donaldson
so not quite killing the frame
off we’ we back with this in due course
but uh we want to get across all the
matches of course so table five is no
and senom and Jackson
page here we go it’s
uh eight all 60 well I just missed the
red actually to kill the frame off so
snook as needed but he’s not far from a
98 lead up in
senom real seesaa Affair this
one Jackson paage of course played at
the Cruis B two years ago and be Barry
Hawkins lost to Mark
Williams well that’s not good he he
needs a color in if he’s got any chance
of pulling this
back
what well he has potted it but he did
Snookers so we’ll we’ll get back to that
but let’s go to Table Six Chia Pang Pang
jangu in the balance 87 to chiao not
much in it in the early stages of this
Frame it’s 87 Jo Conor over Matt selt
Matt selts won the last frame there so
it’s all very tight wherever you
look I think let’s just go back to
number two because that is a very
crucial
point in that frame they’re on the last
Red Scot Thon holds the advantage still
25 points in the lead
but massive frame here for both players
he’s got the brown safe gotot Thon so
that will sort of
help oh
well would you believe it everything has
happened at the Ryan Day tonight can’t
make this up can
you so now he just needs the red yeah
that’s a massive
mistake up the brown out
oh as he left the gap
I don’t think so there might be a gap
coming off the top cushion to hit the
red but I don’t think Ryan Day
can see the red
here yeah good
hit but he’s left the red now the
stal take it on he’s got the bit of
insurance that the brown is in the
middle of that ball cushion so sort of
eases the pressure on this
shot was still a tough one doesn’t want
to take it on bit surprised there may
not get a better chance he’s
testing his opponent’s patience he knows
he’s under pressure
he’s played a good shot there ran day
yeah I mean the question is will Scott
donalson get another chance at the red
okay wasn’t easy but he turned it down
not not guaranteed to get another
go yeah but he could have taken that red
on couldn’t he with an element of safety
and of course as I said the insurance of
the brown in the middle of the ball
cushion
now all of a sudden he’s in a
snooker and if this doesn’t go according
to
plan well it might be given a chance up
to Ryan
day he’s got it
now will he rud that mistake of not
taking that red
on still a lot of work to do for Ryan
day no oh good shot well there you go
was yeah he had he had a chance at the
red didn’t take it on Donaldson like I
say now he hopes are resting on the
brown now then we want to keep you
across all the action so we’re going to
put table one and two on the same screen
for you Neil Robertson is in on table
one Ryan days missed the pink on table
two so he needs a snooker now 28 in it
27 on he’s
struggling yeah really struggling Ryan
day he part of a good red didn’t he you
know any
he that pink I never expected him to
miss that but that’s down to his
opponent the pressure that he’s put
himself pressing that the his opponent
is exerted on him okay Scot is Miss the
yellow okay right he needs he needs a
snooker but it could have been done and
dusted there no Robertson has missed
that red as
well oh we’re right at that point where
everyone’s under it
basically obviously this is to get to
The Crucible but it sort of feels like a
torment in its own right and we’re
coming to the ball the last night of the
qualifies it’s 10 days of action here
the English Institute of sport in
Sheffield
Jamie Jones then with a
Chance gave away a lot of foul points he
was in a snooker earlier in the frame so
still a lot of Reds on even though he’s
trading so we’ll let you know if Ryan
day gets the snooker there but we’re
going to concentrate again on table one
that was a nice little shot played it a
lot of drag as we say bottom of the Q
ball just to slow the pace and hold for
the red into this corner played it
nicely
six good play the cube while right
through the gap
of Two Reds and just clip the red that’s
close to the Pink
Spot any sort of little cannon on these
three Reds should be
nice yeah that’s okay got a red into the
left
Center safe red will be his problem
that’s a little bit down the road he’s
concentrating getting colors with these
loose Reds
not been in front since he did 54 that
was of course coming back
tonight lost the four before the
interval but the interval seems to have
made a
difference terms of getting jamy Jones
15 minutes to collect his thoughts get
his head
together just to say it’s 98 n and senom
against Jackson paage nothing down in
the next in fact p is just probably the
first red 87 no Connor over sell nothing
down in their next
frame 87 chai Pang over Pang jungu Pang
is 48 in front in the
next
and in fact uh Ryan day got the snooker
on table
two so he can now win that frame 22 in
it 25 on
20 yeah we want to just keep you cross
table too he got the snooker Ryan day so
he can actually win the frame now
so can he take it out that would be a
bit of a Twist in the tell cuz he was
struggling yeah and what a what a frame
of could torn out to be if he manages to
snatch it well this is not easy from
brown to
Blue
28 he’s not got a great angle on this
brown may have to play with a deep screw
Mr
Black a little bit of left hand side try
and steer that Q ball over by the yeah
he’s going deep on the Q ball so just
watch the Q ball as it misses the black
got to miss the black and now the spin
over towards the blue great
effort very very good it he’s settled
with that okay he’s going to have to use
the rest would have been better just a
few more inches towards the cushion then
he would have been able to play it
without the rest so he’s going to have
to use the rest and extension makes the
pot a lot more difficult but po still if
he gets this blue and gets on the pink
Jammy jnes course still going that red
on the right hand side cushion key to
that
frame yeah just looking at the Jamie
Jones situation there
Robertson the red he may not have to
bring that red out the safe red could
leave leave a possible double on on that
oh Ryan has hit it so
hard and that’s just pressure that’s
exactly what you do when you under
pressure you start to hit the ball a
little bit harder than you really
necessarily need
to he hasn’t left it now Jamie chares if
he doesn’t have an angle on the brown
here he could play the
double that’s what he played
for he’s played for the double
48 good break so far from Jamie
Jones miss it oh it’s hit the ja as well
4 but he hasn’t left an easy pot for
Neil Robertson okay it is pable but
certainly far from
Easy bang
jangu has leveled up with the chai Pang
8
each Chia actually he miles behind in
that FR he’s just clearing up just to PO
a few I think just get his arm going but
it’s 8 each it’s 98 n and senom it’s 87
Jo Conor it’s close wherever you look
here on Judge judement
day oh this looks really good this is
going to be tight behind the black have
a look at this for a shot brilliant shot
from NE
Robertson play to
[Applause]
Perfection Beautiful Death
touch can’t swerve around the black he’s
going to have to come off the right hand
side cushion
[Applause]
well Ryan Day doubled the blue so he
needs pink and black to go 98
[Applause]
up well he hit that one well that has
made up for a few shots that we’ve seen
from
him well that was just a magnificent
pink this the go 98 out wow what a frame
yeah great battle over there and Ryan
day just about holding on he’s gone 98
in front Scott Donaldson just ruin a
missed opportunity so 98 to Ryan day
here two points in it on the last Red
between nil Robertson and Jamie Jones
eight a piece
thank you
yeah nicely done keeping the pressure
on thing is now as well there’s nothing
Cy is there really so whoever gets good
chance at the next red you fancy to win
the frame and go 98 in front
jenset please well that’s worked out
okay for Robertson nearly wiing off
actually but he’ll take that an has just
asking a couple of the spectators to
keep
stump yeah don’t mess with
youas he’s a big lad isn’t he
look remember Len gley all those years
ago what a referee he was when he told
you to keep quiet scared of life out of
you well yeah I mean the sort of the
three in those days it was Len John
Street and John Williams all with great
Authority you didn’t mess with them did
you no he once bought one of those uh
lasers didn’t he back from Thailand yeah
and he and he used to he used to point
it at people in the crowd who were
talking you know he he point the laser
at the at the The Spectators if they
were
[Applause]
talking seen that imagine doing that at
The Crucible today laser open to the oh
you tri off
somebody came up with a great suggestion
on Twitter today that and phone goes off
with The Crucible this year that person
has to buy everybody that’s sitting down
a
drink cost him a small
fortune now
bit of trouble here Jamie
Jones play up one two three cushions
just nestling behind the
red well I thought he was going to
Nestle into it but he played it with
Pace the only problem about that
is you hit the red you’re going to leave
it on if he just played it dead weight
he was never leaving the red on
so
mistake can there
Robertson knock this red in
Big
Shot slightly worried the kiss on the
pink now he’s going to play it off a
couple of
cushions ah good shot Trad Mark near
Robertson pot one and the cuq ball is
perfect he has his chance to Edge back
in front yeah great
red yeah that was a mistake from Jamie
Jones there was no need to the play that
escape with
pace so many people even before the draw
came out were insistent Neil Robertson
will qualify but we’ve seen it’s just
not that straightforward here it’s so
tough Stakes are so high and pressure
can get to anybody but this is an
important visit now just to get to
within one
five the people who said he would
qualify without sort of looking at the
draw the same people who said he
couldn’t possibly drop out the top 16 it
can happen it has happened here he is
involved in a real scrap for Jamie Jones
tonight but it’s in his hands in this
frame needs up to including the blue
four
pots
seven could play that bit
better sh maybe just a touch of rayun
side oh
yeah Q ball is drifted towards that left
hand side
cushion he’s going I need the blue as
well so it’s
not 100% guaranteed just
yet a he’s C that lovely
14 yeah nice round with well deserved
that was a
quality strike on the Q ball yeah I mean
nil Roberts
is a world champion he’s won 23 ranking
titles he’s come through big matches big
battles key
frames crunch moments he’s come through
another one here 19 it’s going to be 98
to the Aussie and he’s going to be one
away from The
Crucible I
wonder I wonder jamy Jones had that shot
again to escape from the snooker would
he have played it
differently it’s custom
so n Robertson wins a dramatic frame in
a dramatic match to lead 98 he’s one
away now then KN and senam also one away
on table five just broken down
actually in fact sorry he’s still going
but he’s uh he’s on a break of 41 31 in
front but this looks like end a break
maybe push a color
safe that’s what he’s attempting to do
with the yellow
for a bit of security so 98 he leaves
Jackson page it’s eight each still CH
Pang and pangang and 87 Jo Connor over
mat selt but selt is in front in the
next well he’s a little fortunate
actually the little bump and the and the
nudge cuz that was a bit pacy it was a
bit thin Keo was racing a
little H Veri C Joi and Dave Gilbert the
qualifies so far tonight remember if Jo
o Conor doesn’t beat Mattel we’ll have
no debutants for the first time ever at
The Crucible
just hearing that uh this afternoon’s
coverage set a record on YouTube for
will snooker tour over
126,000 tuned in so all the years we’ve
been doing this that is a record thanks
for watching it’s been great
drama Jackson paage going for broke with
the long red needs a bit of luck here
could have been worse but he’s got
enough of this Q ball he can take this
red arm with the
rest healthy lead he’s got the yellow
safe
no has he got away with it he has
hell hold on hold on oh wow
wow now what do you
do delighted that the red has gone in
but he take this green on and try and
screw it in with Pace very
dangerous oh what a
shot well what a shot this is
excellent hats
off for Jackson
pagee
amazing so Big Slice of luck a Big Slice
of skill and now he needs a Big Slice of
nerve as he got the
angle is the angle good enough that he
can disturb
try and knock a red into play
here yeah he could and that when putting
this red the other well the top of red
of the two that are close together will
pop into the same pocket so all of a
sudden from
nowhere he has a
chance that yellow is going to be of
course the pivotal ball
both players in this
Frame let’s have a look at this fluke
again it was a beauty wasn’t it
18 look at this trying to double this
the jaw the middle pocket back down the
rail sweet as a
n then he had a decision to make didn’t
he and he took the green on he played it
beautifully yeah it was a great shot the
green wasn’t and he’s got a nice shot
here look at the yellow safe but look at
the angle on the red perfect to knock it
into
Play
Ooh could have been nicer could have
been
nicer what do you
do you take the pink on
it’s missable you take the blue
one or do you play the snooker knock the
black leave the Q ball exactly where the
black
is oh he’s going to take the pink
on oh great shot is he on the yellow
he’s got a shot at
it well credit to him he’s trying to win
isn’t he I mean it’s such a critical
stage of the match but he’s trying his
best to make it nine each
this way the game can be so cruel can’t
it you know you get you’re sitting in
your chair like n on his opponents had
to go a double he’s missed it and he’s
fluked it and all of a sudden could lose
the frame this yellow goes in no he’s
got a
chance so frame in the balance match in
the balance
okay it’s very much in the balance but
all the tables are and we don’t want to
neglect anything so table one just going
to pop back and see what’s happening
Jamie Jones of course 98 down now but in
first here in the next 22 in
front
23 well this the last loose red now so
couple of shots time have to get into
them L Phillips has sent me a message on
Instagram watching in
Singapore 31 for on on Arsenal to get by
us by Munich tonight so he’s probably
probably watching on his phone football
on the TV we’ve had so many people all
over the world they haven’t we just
being send us messages
and good numbers great numbers of people
watching on YouTube as well well he
tried to get into them but it didn’t
work really
38 okay Jackson paage has a chance here
to clear up for nine each on table
five there’s 10 in front so he just
needs the blue in fact
what a match this has been really has
been hard to separate them both have
gone for their shots we’ve seen that in
this
Frame not senal he did course lead this
Frame just lost position put the yellow
safe in the end though it made no
difference so nine each and we have our
first decid of the night incoming let’s
go to table two there might be another
one there Ryan Day 98 he just won that
dramatic last frame on the black but
Scott Donald and 30 in front here
remember he was 72 down and what a
chance he’s got here to level this one
remember a year ago he had to withdraw
against Ryan Day 4-0 down he just felt
unwell 72 down tonight he didn’t look at
all Rosy of course he’s done so well to
get back into it but precious
transferred to him here trying to having
done all that work actually forc the
decider
4 yeah just come up a little bit short
but he’s got the red up into the grain
pocket
oh well
played I love the way he play that shot
just all
else give the r a
chance
oh attempt of playing it with safety and
one now chance 39
ahead to go 40 four just need to clear
up these loose Reds
here
oh that was a poor shot but might walk
out his favor he’s on this red but he
certainly wasn’t playing for
it they’ve stopped playing on table
seven I’m not sure what the issue is
there but the frame’s not over but
they’ve walked Walked off so maybe one
of them needs the toilet the other one’s
gone out I’m not sure the frame actually
32 minutes so maybe that’s got something
to do with it 87 still to Jo o Conor
Matt s 46 in front 59
on yeah a little bit lucky to be on that
red
now can he make it pay
needs good strike on the Q ball here
just screw up back for
well any of those three loose Reds
there 56
yeah well played that’s a winner that’s
going to win him to frame that pot very
Steely effort this he’s not he’s not a
flashy player in any way he’s just good
very good and he’s showing his metal
Under Pressure yeah showing a lot of
character fortitude to come back here
just don’t forget he was 72 down coming
into this evening session
black will put him 60 points in the lead
with just 59 remaining so he has lost
the frame where his opponent needed a
snooker so he really needs to knock this
red into the right
center yeah well play it’s got on we’re
going to the wire in another
match yeah we got two deciders they’re
just getting started Jackson p and KN
and
senom let’s just check what’s happening
on the other table so let’s start at
Table Six cha ping and Pang Jong Yu
eight a piece 40 in it here out in front
59
on trying to Edge his way clear by
one hang at the table here so that frame
still with a bit of life left in it
table seven they are back I did say they
left the arena Matt selt and Jo Connor
but they have returned and this is
what’s happening there you can see these
four Reds bunched together so a little
standof now we’re near hard enough no
that’s that region that’s four points
given away which will could make a
difference well that’s going to take a
bit of resolving maybe so we’ll go to
table one shall we and just catch up
with Robertson and
Jones here we go Jamie Jones cing 98 to
Robertson jamy Jones in front by 33
[Applause]
okay very close to catching the other
knuckle there that could have been
trouble that could have been a lot of
trouble this red is pable the one just
the top of the bunch near The Pink
Spot up in a great long red in the last
frame to
clear up and win
it normally so good at that particular
shot not this time
well as he on this red slung straight
red into the corner it’s having a good
look at
it the red above it maybe in his way but
if it is I mean he could take the an
alternative red into the same pocket but
he’d like to be on this dead straight
red one good shot get him
in no
well he’s left
it and it could cost him the fr
they’re just starting the deci on table
two Ryan day and Scott Donson as Jamie
Jones lines up this important red which
he pots so he’s in with a chance for
nine all
seven well of course there’s another
decider Jackson paage and noin senom on
table five Jackson page is in early here
let’s go over there looks a good chance
Ken well what a chance I mean look at
the Reds he split the Reds up from a
color few shots
ago from a position where napan had a
complete Advantage at
98 had a yellow safe he had a 30 OD
point lead Jackson page fluke the
red eventually won the frame forc to the
cider and now what a
chance to reach The
Crucible 20 points already in the lead
but these Reds are situated well
beautifully talking to himself trying to
compose himself don’t blame
him well of course his mentor Mark
Williams won the last ranking event
didn’t he held his nerve in fine style
at the tour champion in
Manchester 32
not far enough for the blue he’s going
to have to take the pink
here he’d like to take the blue but it
could go wrong if he takes the blue the
pink is the shot but bit trickier and
you know under this pressure no all
placing The Crucible you want to keep
everything as simple as possible he’s
not going to take the more difficult
pink
play that nicely a lot of left hand side
but not enough
Pace this is tough got to be careful
with the rest it’s very close to the
blue
oh cu’s gone close to the middle pocket
he’s okay though he’s okay walking a
tight rope as they have been all day
it’s been such a closely fought match
this Jamie Jones looks like he’s over
the line in that frame we saw the chance
that he was left and he’s gone on to
take it so that’s going to be nine each
Neil Robertson is going to be taken down
to one last frame to qualify
Scott Donson and Ryan Day the very early
stages of their decided just four points
on the board it’s eight each chai ping
and Pang Jung Yu Matt selts leveled up8
each with Joo
Connor we did promise you drama
yesterday morning when we started I
think it’s been delivered by the
players Jackson paage looking kind of
relaxed here but needs to just focus a
bit longer
Pang Jang XU has just pted a black to
lead 98 against Chu ping so he just made
a 50 clearance 98 we’ll get some of that
shortly but we need to stay on this deci
see if Jackson pagee can take it
out well it’s a wonderful break I mean
under this extreme pressure he’s still
talking to
himself but he’s helding his
Nerf very nicely indeed he’s just a
couple of pots away T will be
racing
58 52 53 points now the lead the pink
will put him 59 with 59
remaining well not senam one of 10 n
Thriller against jander at this point
last season is he going to suffer
the opposite result here this is match
ball the Jackson
page what a match it’s been what a win
from the
Welshman a great break this he’s really
controlled it well controlled the
nerves yeah fantastic I think he’s just
Dawning on him now what he’s done back
at the cruise bow after his debut two
years ago
71 and how crucial was that a little bit
of slice of look but in all fairness
the way he’s made this break in this
last frame has been well so admirable
you can see what it means he’s
absolutely
delighted yeah they’ both been the same
actually they’ve gone for it both of
them and Jackson has stepped in one
visit he’s won the decided in one visit
very
impressive brilliant
stuff 8
keeps looking at the scoreboard he’s
miles over the
line love to finish with a
ton course reached his first semi-final
in a ranking event just recently at the
World opening yam China and now he can’t
miss yeah and it’s such a shame you know
this has to be a loser not one who’s
such a wonderful player lovely
competitor such a wonderful guy as well
he such a shame for him but wonderful
break from Jackson pagee to make a
Sentry in the last frame to qualify for
The Crucible well that does take
something and now he’s just the armor is
gone nice and freely adrenaline fizzing
around all over the place here yeah what
a way to win it but Jackson
pagee a break of 107 just needed one
chance in the decider Jackson paage for
the second time will be at The Crucible
he beats KN and senom by 10 frames to n
let’s go back to table one Neil
Robertson’s actually playing on for
Snook as he got one here 45 behind 35 on
there’s always the sort of chance of the
free ball with the red that’s what will
be in Jamie
Jones’s mind
here yeah he doesn’t want to be hitting
this too hard he doesn’t want to leave a
free ball so be playing it very Softly
that’s a good show he’s hit this red
very very good
indeed and nice touch from there
Robertson tapping the table saying good
shot colors are in a decent spot for
Snookers particularly that yellow one
BL but of
course does May few Snookers or snooker
and a free ball that’s no good
now a chance as I said that yellow and
blew it up big Target to lay a snooker
behind oh he hit it way too
softly way too Softly
so we got four matches still on this one
nine8 Scott Donaldson and Ryan day
they’re still in the very early stage of
the decid not much on the board there 98
Pang over Chow 8 each Joe Conor and Matt
cell the remaining matches here on the
second Judgment
Day this is looking very light likely to
be 9 each just waiting for Jackson PA to
come into our studio join Rob
yeah that was a very dramatic victory
for Jackson PA but what a way to win it
in the decider it wasn’t a nervy fall
over the line job it was a dash across
the line it’s what he did against Barry
Hawkins wasn’t it when he was at The
Crucible and he’s now in the studio with
Rob
Walker what a performance Jackson what a
way to turn it around from 98 down yeah
I mean it wasn’t looking great I got to
be honest um all day both of us you know
it was so tough out there the table was
so tight you would not believe how tight
the table was honestly but anything down
the railway may as well play safe it
just can’t go in um so it was it was
just
Scrappy and then you know I managed to
get that Breck going at the end R the
pink uh which is where you want to be
really when the ball when the table’s
tight in the middle of the table so I’d
rather be on the pink and the black on
our table today I think so yeah just
happy to get over the line and just
relieved well and you must have thought
when he was in the balls 98 up you must
have thought your aspirations of a
second Crucible appearance were over
yeah I mean he just kept potting in our
break he was on about 40 odd kept
potting and then he I think he went
through a gap and didn’t tried going
into the Reds and the black and did
found a gap and didn’t end up uh end up
in a green pocket I think just in the
Joe’s but uh yeah I puted I had well I
had a fluke I did um and then I had
played a great shot on the Green to get
myself back in that frame so and then
yeah just I don’t know and what look
what what a what a clearance one visit
that was all that was needed and and to
get over the line and Into The Crucible
for the second time with a century like
that in the context of the match being
tied at nine a piece was fabulous yeah
yeah it was you know it felt good I
battled all day I think that’s the only
break I had as I decid so you know I
battled just battled and kept battling
and you know guess it shows not just a
part there so uh yeah and how much
confidence did you bring to this
campaign off the back of that brilliant
run to the semi-finals in China yeah you
know was confident um I play against
dark B uh the few breaks played solid
enough you know again a bit Scrappy in
Parts but yeah just happy to get over
the line there it wasn’t nowhere near
the former in China but just it was just
so tough out there and it’s been a a
good couple of days for the Welsh
players Jack Jones yesterday Dominic
Dale as we’re talking at the moment Ryan
d still in action Jamie Jones still in
action uh anybody you’d rather avoid in
the draw tomorrow quarter to n oh no
give me anyone I am bothered I show that
in China I think and uh yeah I’m just
ready to go well many many
congratulations it was a truly
phenomenal way to finish the match see
you at The Crucible cheers Rob thank
you yeah fantastic finish and he’ll be a
danger man for sure in that draw
tomorrow morning
so we’ve got four matches left on
they’re all tight we’ve got two deciders
Jack
Jones 98 Pang over Chow 8 each s no
Conor
hasn’t done too bad there now come
around
day knock this
in oh quick one a quick one from Ryan
day and I think he’s going to leave it
over the middle pocket is
he this red needs to slow up for Ryan
day
otherwise could be an easy
opener well it may have just you may
have just slowed up just
enough well they’ve started on table one
the last deider Neil Robertson former
Champion against Jamie Jones battler
what a battler he is from
Wales yeah let’s have a look at that
because there’s huge interest isn’t
there in whether n Robertson can get
this one he’s been taken to the wire
he’s going to have to win it in the
single frame shootout now yeah we would
never expected this at A5 of Robertson
but oh look at this what a
start well it’s in his hands now Jamie
Jones what a great
pot yeah first chance to the
Welshman to Spring what would be of
course a big upset yeah because of
Robertson’s
reputation and what a chance it
is four loose Reds available black is
available in the B Pockets that red
above the black I think is pble as well
so he could get 30 odd points on the on
the board here oh well I say
that I say that and that’s a mistake
should have been higher on the black
with the cube
wall this may go
wrong it’s amazing that I mean anywhere
but low on the black there and he was
perfect now can he negotiate the black
and get a good position on his next
red it’s not too bad yeah I mean we
mustn’t fall into the Trap of thinking
it’s only Robertson Under Pressure this
is massive for Jamie Jones as well of
course it is to qualify with a massive
scalp under his Bell and of course he
would go there as the reputation as the
man who knocked out Neil Robertson yeah
12 oh he’s had a look at those three
balls just below the pink got a plant
into this left corner pocket well that
would certainly
help he’s got an angle he can play for
the loose red he can
play into the pack he’s playing for the
loose
red but if those three Reds are a plant
well what a bonus that would be cuz he
could play for the plant and in a couple
of shots time and that would loosen up
more Reds without having to go into the
pack taking a chance he’s having a good
look at it
18 once
again they
look like a that straight line into that
corner packet into that corner
pocket he has a chance on the black if
he wants if he doesn’t think the plants
AR to go into the pack but wa is’s
playing this Q ball this plant must be
on now what a shot this would
be this could open up quite a number of
Reds here Dave I mean if this goes in
25 this could be the big shot gets on a
color brings another three or four Reds
into
play can see him lining it up we saw
Jackson page really go for it in his
decide he just needed one visit is it
going to be the same for another well
26 it’s looking good and as another
Welshman as well of course on table two
Ryan day is in in his decider let’s put
that up for you as
well oh this is great to watch I love
this split screen I must say I’m getting
excited here just watching
it there so much pressure it’s all about
well this is all about composure holding
yourself together keeping that back arm
nice and free and
loose pushing that c true nice and
smooth straight line and holding your
ner you know all the emotions all the
thoughts about playing in The Crucible
walking down those stairs you got to put
them to the back of your mine
just each pot as they come along one pot
at a
time don’t get ahead of
yourself it’s easier said than done but
well you don’t overthink but equally you
need to take care it’s finding the
balance between the two and shutting out
as you say everything else around it and
that’s why the great Champions are the
great Champions because they can do it
time and time again and Neil Robertson
is one of those let’s be clear about
that but it’s out of his hands as to
whether he’ll get another chance here as
Ryan Day continues his progress on table
two in the
decider yeah that was a good part from
Ryan Day right into the middle of the
pocket when you hear the noise of the
ball hit in the back of the letter it’s
a good
feeling he missed the pink into that
right center a few frames ago to
custom he’s got to play a delicate
little shot around there pink into the
middle he’s got to play a little Cannon
you would say on the
red
37 oh once again that pink into the
middle didn’t play the cannon just tried
to make sure of the
pink so he’s had his
chance but he’s only 17 in front Jamie
Jones still going with a pink goo to
middle which he has got he’s plowing on
here 43 in
front
43
44 let’s just focus for the minute there
on table one because jamy Jones has got
a big shot to play here oh oh he’s got
the perfect
angle perfect angle
natural angle of the cuq ball into the
pack but you always need a little bit of
look make sure the black and hope that a
red pops out hope a red pops
out it’s not ideal he’s got a red into
the right center but we know how tight
these middle pockets are this is It’s
missable this
red na Robertson can only look on and
hope he gets a chance
well time is running out that’s a
terrific pop in any frame actually never
mind the decider that was a great
shot but none of those Reds are
available in
the little
pack was a very small window you could
get the cuq ball into somewhere where
the tip with Q is
but as we see this pot again this is a
wonderful pot Under Pressure right into
the middle of the
pocket he has got the angle to get close
to the red that near the left
cushion he’s playing for the window he’s
playing for a very small Gap and has he
got there he may have done he’s walking
around briskly
59 I think I think he has the Gap what a
shot he’s played
there he’s edging closer and closer to a
famous victory
yeah
60 yeah it was one of those shots was
you know you’re going back up the table
make sure the pot and then if you don’t
get on a color just play Jamie Jones a
good snooker like he has
done Robertson in big big trouble yeah
he really is Taps the table in
acknowledgement this is table two
meanwhile nothing poed since we last
there Red’s
running we saw Ryan day with that chance
missed the pink to
Middle Pang jungu I can tell you as well
he’s 30 in front 98 up on chup
PING few balls away from second
successive Crucible appearance out on
table
six Donaldson in then with his chance in
the decid it
well how does
he get to those Reds and keep it
safe if he misses them it won’t be a
Miss call
because oh it will be because it’s 64
yeah one Jamie Jones he’s only got one
more go 64 behind 67 remaining he’s
trying to play
it off three cushions nestl into the
back of those
Reds
six when he was 85 up we thought it was
only going to be one winner he won all
first four of the frames this
evening but Jamie Jones dug in never
gave up
what a performance to come back and now
Jamie well and the complete drive and
seat he’s got one of the well the
greatest players that’s ever played a
game in big big trouble and this is
short again this is not going to
reach this is not going to reach is
it oh what a shot from near
Robertson yeah didn’t look like it had
the pace did it it keeps him in it for
now he’s still in trouble but he’s not
out
yet what a great shot didn’t think I had
the pace thought I was going to check up
off that second
[Music]
cushion okay he’s got the cover on the
four Reds but n Robertson will be trying
to bring this safe red into play
well is this red arm for Ry day doesn’t
look like it must be too tight
Banger’s broken down meanwhile so he’s
not over the line He’s 33 in front 59 on
could be another decider there eight
each till Joe con and Matt s that slowed
right down
actually well Chow just missed a red
actually so might be it
there not quite
anyway R day spent a long time looking
at this
and then he pops
it yeah he was shaking his head he
didn’t think it was on initially must
have been so
close there Robertson taking the safe
red off the
cushion he’s got to play a good shot
he’s got to get this safe can’t leave a
posible part
on he
hasn’t yeah he’s Clinging On isn’t he at
the moment but we’ve seen so many twists
you know if the chance came for a
clearance he could be the man to do it
at the moment he’s heavy second favorite
you got to say this red actually is
pable the red left of the pink it’s
pable into this corner and it’s there
and it’s
there so a little clench fist we’ve seen
a few celebrations this season before
matches are actually won so he’s got to
finish it off but Jamie Jones pots what
looks like the winning ball it’s an
instinctive reaction let’s see if these
are the closing moments yellow for the
extra
points comes past the blue he’s on the
next red Neil Robertson forced into
qualifying for the first time since 2006
he poised to miss The Crucible for the
first time in 20 years 2004 the last
time he missed out and it just shows no
matter how good you are
these qualifiers are so so tough yeah
without a doubt and and what a
performance it has to be said there’s
Dan shake so Jamie Jones with a big
victory here in the final round of
qualifying for the world championship
nil Robertson gracious in his
congratulation and big round of applause
for the Welshman for a big victory Jamie
Jones is at The Crucible at the expense
of the former Champion Neil Robertson
beaten by 10 frames to nine J J table
two then Ryan Day trying to get himself
over the line haul himself over the
winning line here I can tell you Pang
jungu has just beaten cha Pang 108 so he
for the second year running will be
there and it’s still eight all Jo Conor
and Matt
s we’re going to hear from Jamie and juk
course people leaving I think or moving
from that match so it’s not ideal Ryan
obviously playing down that area at such
an important
juncture yeah good thing is he’s dead
straight on this BL he can’t really get
on another red but the five points are
valuable he played for the double
oh yeah well it’s it’s not been that
straightforward a day as it for Ryan it
looked it at 72 but it’s going to take
more effort to get over the line 28
points he leads still 59 on the
table and I think we’re ready to go to
Rob who’s with Jamie
Jones I certainly am Dave I know you can
carry on watching because we’ve got this
on the two box Jamie you can hardly
believe believe what you’ve just done
that was absolutely incredible from 85
down against one of the game’s greats
and you’ve never beaten him until today
yeah I don’t know what it is about this
tournament just like I think the longer
matches suit me my my style of play is
like never give up um at 85 you know I
was hitting balls in the practice room
when I knew I was up against you know I
thought if I can come out and hit him
early maybe I’ll have a chance but H
just so tough that was such a tough game
yeah and and and on paper of course
everyone was thinking well it’s a great
story you Robertson comes through
qualifying and then he’s flying as he
goes into the main draw but you got to
earn your place at The Crucible and to
turn that round in the manner in which
you did would you say that’s one of the
biggest comebacks one of the biggest
wins of your career yeah especially for
me you know cuz Neil has buried me every
time I played him before so I haven’t
got good memories of playing him um but
I stuck with him this afternoon you know
I got a got the lead and then sort of
let the lead slip and then I I don’t
know I don’t know what what it is about
this tournament you know just I had the
long one in the last frame and I knew I
was going to pot it I I I wish I could
bottle this and I could do it throughout
the season I just thought I don’t know
what whatever it is about this
tournament just really brings the best
out to me like you know and and and we
knew that the first time you played in
2012 when you made the quarterfinals and
you’ve beaten sha Murphy twice at The
Crucible I guess one of the one of the
key elements for you is you’re not
intimidated by someone’s reputation are
you you you’ll get on the table play the
balls and have a go yeah I I love that
game you know I I love I love the way
the top players play you know when when
I’m playing in practice I play like a
top player I just don’t produce it
enough um in other tournaments I tend to
produce in this tournament um I like I
like that there’s no you know you can’t
get away from you’ve got to play well
against Neil and you’ve got to play well
against the big players so I find that
an easy match to approach and you know
it it was a fantastic clearance in the
last nerveless from start to finish many
it was it was well it looked nerveless
many many congratulations and and listen
what a fantastic couple of days for the
Welsh players coming through qualifying
unbelievable yeah there’s a lovely
School of us down there now you know
there’s all you know Jackson and the
boys as well like we’re doing well
recently so you know we’ve got so many
players um we all practice together we
all bring each other on and you know
it’s great there the Welsh of flying
Jamie good luck in the draw tomorrow
quarter to nine you’re in it mate you’re
in Cheers Cheers
so we’ve got another decider of course
ongoing Ryan Day Scott Donaldson 9 each
not a lot we you’re watch it there as
the interview is going on not a lot
to has happened since we left it let’s
get back to
it he over swear it and he’s given a
chance he’s given up a chance to Scott
Donaldson now got 28 points the
difference to try and find a some sort
of an angle on a on a
color try and disturb these two
Reds well he’s got a perfect angle on
the pink okay the blue is a lot easier
to get on that other loose
red I don’t blame I’m taking this
just to get a few points on the
board oh would you believe it would you
believe
it concentrating so much I’m getting
that QB close to the red took us ey off
the blue and
well it may
not cost them the frame because of the
where the reds are but cost him a few
points Advantage back to Ryan
day yeah very different decider to for
example Jackson page just one visit this
is sort of swimming through glue to get
to the
end he pots the pink he’s 34 in front 43
on
been a long day hasn’t it Ryan it
has and what do you do you take the six
points or do you put a color
safe mess up the table he’s already got
the black
safe if he takes the
pink well he’ll go 34 points in the lead
which means
that if Scott Donson does get a chance
he’s going to need that black and
already safe but what does he do does he
want extra insurance does he want the
brown safe hold the 28o lead and maybe
put another ball color save no take the
points and play a good safety
shot on one of these Reds I think that’s
the right decision now on a couple of
shots time Scott THS may have those Reds
in
play it feels like he’s in control but
but he was in control of the match it
just it’s been the sort of match there
might be some twists coming
yet the shop is not quite closed yet the
shut is not quite
down yeah good
shot but now one good shot from Scott
dson here could really open up the
blue and The Two Reds as well
and this is the problem for Ryan
day oh he’s playing the the slow drag
trying to hide the QQ ball behind the
blue but I don’t think this the right
shot it could have really
got could have got all those three balls
out into the middle of the table and the
play could be in trouble here
now is that touching has he got a
snooker here
well the look on Scott’s face tells a
story I think he played the wrong shot
there he’s put himself in big
trouble yeah this is not easy to hit
he’s put a bit of side on it he’s missed
it these are valuable points
that’ll go back no free
ball yeah points you can’t afford to be
giv away right
now just to say eight all Jo Conor Matt
s they’re on a 37 minute frame and still
about six or seven Reds on so that has
really slowed down that
match Joe Conor was 63 up remember so
mats come back at him strongly but the
frame’s taken a while to resolve
themselves as they try and get these
balls backo skul on the
referee going to be that
close
Okay
I bottom line here is if he hits the
blue again he needs a
snooker
yeah and it all them from that shot then
he played the slow drag if he should
have really just got the balls in the
open he was afraid of maybe leaving a
possible pot on but at
least you know you give yourself a
chance now what sort of chance does he
have he’s got to find an escape
here so difficult this shot cuz it well
the ball is traveling 11 ft 11 and a
half F feet up and 11 and2 ft
back I than yeah okay
right oh this looks pretty good this
looks very good what a shot he’s played
here brilliant shot
now can Ryan Day play the same shot
again I think he can you know delicate
little shot he could snooker
him oh what a shot but he hasn’t got the
snook at this
time okay we’re going to just break away
very briefly just to show the end of the
match between pangang Yu and Cha Pang
just a moment ago
so let’s roll
that here we go this was the winning
moment for
Pang obviously we were very much
concentrating on Neil Robertson while
this was happening but that’s 108 that
was a real Humdinger and it might be
chaou pang’s last match he’s been
talking about going to play Po in China
so Pang Jong Yu for the second year
running qualifies for The Crucible lost
to Ron solivan in round one last year
but Pang a pretty stubborn character
actually and he’ll be another dangerous
qualifier into the
tomorrow now meantime a real
twist because R day has left a free ball
here still obviously that red safe by
the
blue what has Ryan Day done here from a
a very commanding position he’s given up
a free ball he’s missed the red
completely and a
chance for Scott Donaldson okay with the
position of tyly the black and the red
next to the blue but have a look at this
if
he get po this red get a nice angle on
the pink he could bring both blue and
red into play he’s having a look the
scoreboard he’s 32 points behind so very
valuable points here
needed but it’s a chance that well a few
moments ago he was in all sorts of
trouble yeah he’s left himself a nice
angle on the Pink Just stun
now got to stun into the red he’s got to
hit the red on the right hand side as we
look lovely
angle oh we tried it
unlucky this is a sort of quintessential
qualifying decider you know we’ve seen a
couple of nice breaks to win them but
this is uh what we kind of been used to
over the years right down to the wire
last red
yeah Ryan there up Elvis chair
look got to be careful here
Ryan what does he do does he play the
little snooker that he tried to play a
few moments
ago could go
wrong yeah could go wrong
he hasn’t got the
snooker now I wonder he play a little
shot here Dave to try and hit the red
knock the Q ball towards the black and
bring the black into play
here just bring the black out over that
middle pocket there you show there’s the
shot now that as long as the black
doesn’t go in oh he’s so unlucky there
he is so unlucky what a wonderful shot
it would have been he’s absolutely he
cannot believe that he knocked the black
even into a safer
position well I wonder if this Frame
could come down to that black where it
is on that cushion Ryan Day hopes not of
course he’s 25 in front wants to win it
before
then but what a difference it would have
made if that black is over the middle
pocket then first chance of the red is
favorite even if you know whatever
points advantage to Ryan
day was such a big difference
that he’s played a good shot here he’s
played a really good shot
yeah this is just a well hit it and hope
it gets save
well it’s not going to go off the grain
is it it’s not going to go off the graen
and over the
pocket it’s just crept up the
cushion well has anyone got any
fingernails left such
drama it’s just creeped up the cushion
this is missable if if it doesn’t lay on
the cushion it’s almost unmissable but
this is missable without a shadow of a
doubt and he’s got to play it with Pace
to get the QQ ball out for a a ball
[Laughter]
Coler well he didn’t play play it with
any real conviction I thought he was
sort of making sure of the of the red
but if he had have played it with a bit
more Pace he could have got on the green
and it would have given him a
chance now what does he
do drolling up to the green trying to
play the
snooker it’s not a difficult one to hit
[Applause]
Ah that’s a very good hit from Ryan day
and he’s got good separation Q ball
and the yellow
just some news from table 7 been a long
frame there 46 minutes but Joo Connor
seems to have broken the deadlock he is
in with a scoring chance but he’s taking
a long time to get there he’s 22 in
front about five Reds
on good chance to bring the blue into
play here oh he should have played the
yellow Into the
Blue so Ryan Day needs the yellow to
lead by 26 with 25 on and leave Scott
Donson needing a sneaker in this decid
he’s been through the wars R Day Led
72 but there goes what could well be the
winning
ball yeah good pass from Ryan
Day steady on that shot now would love
to see the green go
in and it has done yeah well played
Scott Don comes forward to shake hands
he really battled hard the Scotsman but
it is another Welshman Ryan day that’s
one of the stories of the qualifi all
these Welsh players getting through it’s
Ryan Day who books his place at The
Crucible for the 15th time in his career
a 10 n winner let’s go to table seven
then the last match on and Joe o Conor
this frame has been heavily tactical but
he has got his chance to go 98 remember
he led 63 coming into tonight and he’s
just looking to Edge to within a frame
of booking a crucible debut he’ll be the
only debutant this year if he can get
over the line first things first win
this Frame to lead
98 obviously our attention has been
elsewhere but now it will be focused
fully on this match
35 in front so a couple of Reds
required not always easy after a lot of
safety to sort of revert to you know to
get that fluency
back for
well he okay he’s on the red he needs
red and color Ken and it’s he’s 98 up
yeah that could have gone wrong couldn’t
he wasn’t planning to hit the black
there but he’s okay just hit the the
black on the right
side 42 points the lead red and color
okay safely in he’s nicely on the blue
it’s a big frame to win this it’s been
50 minutes it’s been a battle but Jo
Conor standing up to
it just checking the scores again this
is the ball that should make it
98 and there it is so and he’s on the
next red as well so it’s going to be 98
we’ll be back with this one of course in
due course but let’s hear from Ryan day
he’s with Robert
33 Ryan that was absolutely epic you
must have gone through so many
emotions uh yeah it’s kind of the long
match isn’t it um 7 to up was hoping to
get an early uh early finish this
evening maybe chill out and watch the
the the Man City Real Madrid game
tonight but um Scott started
fantastically well he won four five
frames without me really getting much of
a Sni and then seven all is kind of
Nery to say the least and so important
for you to get that frame on the board
to to tuck things back up at eight a
piece because you you’re you know your
patience could have gone yeah I like I
said i’ I’d missed a a blue across the
the um bottom cushion to go um 87 in
front uh but yeah just kind of that’s
exactly right just try to stay patient
and
um it was a bit of bad luck for Scott
when he tried to roll to the green that
was down near the green pocket and it
looked like well must must have rolled
off and um I ended up winning that frame
on the black but there was a couple of
those towards the end of the match when
uh kind of both of us were in shredz
Ville a bit well you made your debut
back in 2004 this is your 15th
appearance at The Crucible and it will
be a fantastic couple of weeks because
five Welsh players have come through
qualifying the very best of luck we’ll
see who you get in the draw tomorrow
morning very much Rob cheers Ryan
cheers yeah real qualifying battle
wasn’t it a sort of typical match in in
a away the way turn around but then
turned back and Ryan day got the job
done and he’ll be at The Crucible in the
draw tomorrow and from Saturday of
course we’ll find out who he plays Matt
selts playing on here 51 behind 35 on he
has got a snooker this is unlikely to be
a free ball even if he misses the red
and this is a great esape actually look
at this and Matt s has seen enough so
it’s 98 to Joo Connor and he’s one away
from booking a crucible debut but from
what we’ve seen that was a 52-minute
frame clearly Matt SEL is going to dig
in as hard as he can to force what would
be tonight a fourth decider we’ve had
wins of course in deciders for Jamie
Jones over Neil Robertson for Ryan day
over Scott Donaldson for Jackson page
over noin
senam husse V course came through
against xang xun 105 cji 10 4 over W
user Dave Gilbert 106 over xia gong Pang
you 108 over CH you ping so one more
match
on and uh we will see whether Matt s can
take us the distance or whether Joe
Connor can get over the line just to
reiterate the draw in the morning
8:45 BBC 5 live BBC website as well we
will find out two bags top 16 in one
qualifies in another Neil Robertson of
course in neither that is the big news
of the night isn’t it Rob absolutely
incredible from 85 down Jamie Jones he’s
lost seven matches to Neil Robertson
almost all of them very comprehensive
defeats including I think maybe a 102
that you alluded to from the world
championship at The Crucible that was a
fantastic victory for Jamie it really
was and and what a story for the Welsh I
mean I know you know we we try and look
at it you and I
journalistically five welshmen in two
successive judgment days absolutely
phenomenal performances for all of them
to get
through yeah exactly Gareth blay our
colleague from BBC Wales as we appear on
camera there dressed rather differently
uh he’s going to be uh well very busy
come Saturday because course Mark
Williams already guaranteed to be there
and joined by a collection of Welsh
players yeah it’s it’s massive and he
gareth’s such a nice guy if if you if
you’re in Wales and you’re listening to
to BBC Radio Wales uh and their coverage
then um you’ll be definitely hearing
Gareth over the over the coming two
weeks but I guess the fact that Jamie
came back so convincingly from 85 down
shows how hard it can be to come through
this cauldron of Judgment Day that
result is one of the reasons why our
coverage has has evolved as it has done
and why it has become a judgment day
because reputations count for nothing
you’ve got to get the job done
yeah and that’s what Joe Connor is
looking to do now he’s 98 up but this is
not over yet by far Matt selt has dug in
well he was 63
down can he dig in a bit more and make
it nine
each oh this isn’t the best
breakoff might get some
cover well it’s not a bad cuq
ball but
it how aggressive selt wants to be at
this
point going to take the red
on or is he maybe
not quarter to 9 tomorrow morning by the
way five live for the draw streamed on
the red button and on the BBC sport
website Ivan hich the Top Dog in The
Press Room and I will be driving to
Manchester as soon as we come off a this
evening Mark Allen has already flown in
to Manchester to sford so I believe he’s
doing an interview just after seven I’m
on with a little preview about quarter
pass half
six and then we’ve got the draw at
quarter to n so can Matt sell Force us
to a position where for the first time
in Crucible history there were no
debutant well he’s got a fair bit to do
if that is to be the
case good pot but uh no real angle on
the black I don’t think to get into the
Reds
just want to he’s tried to get them into
play he’s not on one just want to give
you a tweet from Neil Robertson who was
just tweeted after that painful defeat
he said well that hurts fair play to
Jamie though from 85 up I barely had a
chance he played brilliant tough season
all round and some time off needed for
sure thanks everyone for the continued
support I’ll be back much stronger next
season I can guarantee that that’s very
classy there’s no blaming about
conditions or anything other than the
other guy play well good luck to him
fair play to Neil Robertson minutes
after defeat there really tough
obviously to not be at The Crucible but
I’m sure we’ll see him again in full
flow next season there’s a lot of snooka
to play on the world snooka tour next
season there certainly is some great
tournaments to come uh we’ve had loads
of messages Jonas it doesn’t say which
country you’re writing from yonas for
the rest of us outside the UK how do we
see the draw I’m not absolutely certain
but I’m pretty sure you could get an
international version of five live so
you may well be able to hear it even if
you can’t see
it I’ll try and find out whether wels
nukor have the right to replay the draw
I don’t know if that’s the case because
it is being conducted at BBC’s
headquarters but I know you’ll be able
to hear it yeah I think on the on the
BBC sounds app you can get that outside
the UK
so go to Five live and you should be
able to hear
it will you be tuning in Dave absolutely
absolutely I mean these people various
players have said they’re not they will
be they just will be that’s it they will
be why wouldn’t you it’s listen I’ve got
to tell you obviously I’m not one of the
players but it’s it’s nerve jangly just
being even close to the to to that drama
and and the sense of anticipation grows
with every ball that emerges we really
have got
some Mammoth matches to
come lots of uh comments about Gareth
blay and how busy he’s going to be I
remember the interview he had to conduct
with Mark Williams uh when Mark walked
his way through the Press Room with the
towel on
but then when he sat down to do his
winning interview a man of his word the
towel was removed and only Gareth blay
was close enough to get the um to get
the view eyes fully focused on the
microphone uh but it is a funny photo
which I have on my phone which to spare
Gareth blushes will remain just on my
phone and will not be posted anywhere on
social media but yep Gareth is going to
be very
busy six Welsh out of 32
been a great couple of
days yeah and we’re all down to this
last match now the 32nd man will be
revealed either Joe con or
matell well
it’s a result it’s a result for Joo
Conor that if that cubble hadn’t struck
that red surely would have left
something on it’s a bit of a trudge to
the table for Matt
cell little bits of running of course
you know this stage can play their part
we know
that and also some of these last few
frames between these two have been very
very long and
Joe Keener to get on with
it bearing in mind what a quality player
he is and how well he’s performed in the
ITV events that we’ve seen him at are
you surprised that that Joe’s never made
it to The Crucible yet I guess so yeah I
mean he’s not actually had that many
years on tour um but I think last season
he maybe would have been expected to
qualify but anyway he’s got a chance
here or he might get another one soon
mat s’s just taken a little time here to
get over the disappointment and not
actually been on anything or nothing
easy
anyway and just got to be mindful of a
couple of Reds that have gone down the
table particularly the one near the left
middle
pocket just going back on to Joe’s
record he has lost a couple of Judgment
Day matches lost to TCH in 2019 106
and lost to Ash hugle couple of years
ago
107 last year he lost in the previous
round to Andrew higginson 108 having
been 5-2
up and this is
a this is as close as he’s ever
got he’s nearly there but the job isn’t
done
yet and of course he’d make it three
players from Leicester with Tom Ford
seeded through to The Crucible for the
first time in his career and of course
Mark Selby
there almost part of the furniture the
last 17 or 18 years Mark finalist
against JN way back in ‘ 07 before
his four great titles it was very nearly
five but for that uh well it was an
excellent comeback in the final against
Luca last year no no title but he does
have the honor of the only 147 in final
history brilliant
so Leicester with good representation
are they destined for
another just say goodbye to Ken who’s uh
done Sterling work behind the camera in
front of the camera
everywhere we enjoy The Crucible Ken
you’ll be on the
BBC always great to work with
Kent he might be out for a couple of
glasses of full fat milk tomorrow night
in Sheffield somewhere destination to be
confirmed and very good night to
Ken as we Edge closer to concluding our
two judgment
days yeah this Frame now it’s really on
a knife edge the Reds have spread far
and wide so it could be who gets the
next chance and of course if that’s Joo
Connor it’s a chance to get the match
one and to qualify so Matt sell has got
to be so careful here find a hiding
place for this QQ ball
three final frame deciders this evening
Dave all of them won by the
Welsh are we destined to
finish with a match match that goes all
the
way that’s a really good shot I think
you know as I say there’s so many places
there where he could have left him
in it’s not
only looking and and finding the the
right spot it’s executing it under
pressure so much on the line so much to
play
for you saw that celebration from Jamie
Jones but that was just an instinctive
Relief really to got through the
toughest match you could have let’s be
honest against Robertson and he won it
every credit to
him yeah there was there was absolutely
no bad sportsmanship at all about that
it was pure Instinct you know he’s been
thrashed by Robertson time and time and
time again and the perfect way for him
to bring his season to a conclusion on
the biggest stage of all 12 years after
his run to the quarters on his debut he
just loves the place well this is going
nowhere if if they’re just going to tap
up to this red well he just nudged it
but a real standoff here there’s so much
danger with the red spread as as I
mentioned for
I’ve had a question has from Jensen has
there ever
been Jensen as Jensen Kendricks hard
luck Jensen great run to judgment day
yesterday we were hoping of course it
would have been a absolute fairy tale
for you to have kept your tour card
Jensen’s asking has there ever been a
whitewash on Judgment Day yes there has
technically uh it was Ryan Day against
Scott Donaldson last year when Scott was
unwell
and had to concede the match trailing 40
so technically yes he had lost 10 n but
although they only contested four of
those 10 frames I can’t remember another
actual white wash where the full 10
frames were played
hendo
yeah it’s B than usual wouldn’t it in
this round we’ve had a c two at The
Crucible but
uh obviously see this round is more
associated with what what we’re watching
now which is closely thought
matches is it a Le Hong how against sha
what was the other one it was John par
Eddie Charon that was back that was the
first one back in
1992 and Eddie’s last appearance at The
Crucible well that and so and that was
so that was him coming up against JN as
the reigning Champion yeah first day
yeah
this is it’s actually a good table but
it’s just getting in whoever gets in
would fancy probably winning the frame
really but who’s it going to be there’s
a
standoff to try and prevent your
opponent getting
in screwing the white back here towards
the
cushion I mean cell obviously is the man
under it really because he’s 98 down
so he can’t afford to leave one
on yeah pink and black both on the
cushion could be a tense
one for
it’s becoming a war of attrition this
especially with pink and black where
they
are this is trouble isn’t it it for cell
he’s got to find a hiding place for that
Q
ball or he’s got to PO his way out of
trouble one or the two one one or the
other
rather playing to containing shot trying
one
I think all you need to do is watch Matt
selts sort of body language wasn’t the
worst walk back to the seat though I’ve
seen worse than that from
him yes it could have been
worse took a long time to think about it
must be hard to maintain concentration
levels it’s a long
day now is he taking this on to to the
middle no it’s just the safety and he’s
played a good one it’s a good shot mat
Taps the table Jo Conor still thinking
well
both over 30 seconds of shot it has
slowed down it was not been like this
all day by any means but this
session really since the interval in
particular frames have become elongated
and there’s been a lot of lengthy
passages of
safety but you know it means a hell of a
lot to these guys means everything to
get to The Crucible playing the World
Championship final stages
this is a great
shot uh terrific be any mind he’s 98
down in the final round of qualifying
for the world
championship he judged that absolutely
to Perfection to the naked eye it looked
as though there was half a chance he was
going to nudge the pink must have missed
it
by maybe just a few
millimeters serson lamu played in the
qualifiers asking the latest time of
match is finished on Judgment Day well
the thing is over the years it started
at different times so obviously 5:00
start you’re not going to get such a
late finish I remember early in my
journalistic career uh Gary Wilkinson
and Jason Ferguson that were playing in
the last round and that was 9 each at
about 1: in the morning I think the
decid started and it was after 2 when it
finished Gary won it for those
wondering well I I I my mind goes back
to what one frame in
particular I was sitting next to Neil FS
food food and refreshments were
continually being brought to the
commentary position 5ton fergal O’Brien
who is going to be on air for euros
sport by the way because Dominic Dale’s
qualification means the Euros sport
rotor has been ripped up and redrawn so
5ton fergal against Dave Gilbert the
frame lasted
longer than the existing men’s marathon
world record of that year the final
frame was something like 2 hours and 5
minutes and I think they spent about 40
minutes trying to pot the yellow or or
the yellow and the green it was
absolutely extraordinary it took so long
it was
almost it was utterly captivating
because the longer it went on the more
time you’d invested in it and I think FY
and I got to bed at about half 2 maybe
slightly later it was a night that will
never be forgotten uh poor old Dave
Gilbert uh obviously otherwise he would
have been fined if he had not given a
comment to the press and he walked in or
walked through the Press room and said
I’m not sure what that was but it wasn’t
snooker have a good summer
everybody yeah in a slightly better mood
this evening obviously
Dave winning 10 six against
yagong so 20 minutes this frame eight
points on the
board but as I say whoever I think does
get
in you’d have to fancy strongly I know
black and pink aren’t great and actually
the blue is slightly covered now but the
reds are nicely positioned it might be
one of those breaks where they’re taking
Bol colors but there’ be some sort of
chance but you get the feeling this is
not going to be over in the next sort of
15
minutes someone’s got to get Brave here
haven’t they and force this
open yeah I mean the blue now is I mean
it’s still poble there where it is
actually but it’s going to move from its
spot
well this is far slower than we’re
normally expecting to see from Joo Conor
but it’s understandable he’s never been
this close to a place at The Crucible
before
massive prize for
him it’s been a tough session
tonight L 2-0 3-0
63 that s leads their head to
heads their last two ranking events it’s
hard to compare really because they’re
both best of sevens but they both went
all the way
Joe conceded just a single frame on
route to Judgment
Day 10-1 against Julian L cler with a
century in four half centuries pretty
impressive as well from Matt selt he
beat Aaron Hill 104 with five half
centuries trying to close in on a fifth
Crucible campaign made his debut 11
years ago against Mark SEL
twice he’s played in the first round
against Barry in 15 and
21 and then 108 against Mark Selby last
year both looking to finish their
seasons on a high Joe made the
championship league final
he’s bowed out to the last 32 of four
big events including the
UK couple of Victories against Steven
Maguire this
season s’s best run was the
quarterfinals of the English open where
he beat Mark Allen and Ricky Warden
before losing to Jud Trump
wow wow you just heard there
from Matt cell I think they’re they’re
both really feeling it
and sharing the emotion of the occasion
they both must be exhausted gone
10:00 you may well be able to hear Matt
selt saying that’s
incredible I think they’re I think
they’re they’re both really
feeling the length of time these frames
are taking now it’s really
understandable it reminds me of um the
last frame FR of that UK Champs final
that we had behind closed doors at the
end of 2020 in Milton ke when I think
near when Neil Robertson won against Jud
109 and spent about five minutes trying
to decide what to do on a blue and then
he said afterwards look I was just I
wasn’t playing games I was just so
exhausted I I literally couldn’t
think and this is a real puzzle for
these two in this Frame especially with
oconor missing that red to the middle
yeah it’s it’s rolling off is
it could almost leave the commentary to
Matt selt I think he could he could kind
of he could kind of talk us through this
couldn’t he from his perspective that
is Neil FZ is watching he says this is
proper snooker all the high value colors
welded to cushions we’ll get there in
ones well we we’ll take ones right
now and uh Sno info do you think Neil
Robertson failing to qualify for The
Crucible is the biggest admission from
the world championship proper ever in
terms of how big a name that player was
at that point in time yeah I mean I
suppose if if not Neil then who really I
suppose is the answer to
that Jo Conor taking the red on and not
getting it
extraordinary question here this is this
time of night you get this if if a
player pots all 15 Reds in one shot then
the then the yellow and then six colors
in a sequence to get 44 points is it
classed as a total clearence my friend
doesn’t think so whereas I
do mat selt taking that one on not
getting it yeah I mean it would be I
mean I’m well I’d put it this way if
that happened I’m not sure the table
would be level that’s all I’m saying if
all if all the Red’s going in one shot
but yeah I mean it would be a total
clearance yeah but I mean Joe Joe
Johnson years ago did an exhibition on
the QE2 which felt like a good idea at
the time but as he was about to sort of
play a few
shots it’s a ship so you can imagine
what happened basically about eight Reds
went in the middle
pocket these are these are the kind of
rabbit holes we disappear down after two
days locked up in the English Institute
of sport I tell you what though this is
a great venue and you know there’s a lot
of people still here it’s a bit
different I was years ago they had the
qualifying toy the Palace Hotel T there
were four tables and the last match on
it is Chris small can’t remember who was
playing but it was quite like this it
was everything had finished and they
started de-rigging the other tables
around him and imagine Chris obviously
trying to both players trying to
concentrate and get into the cruise B it
wasn’t ideal but this is uh a different
era a bit more
professional they’ve been really good
hosts here I I think I think it’ll be
here for a few years to come by the way
that there are quite a few people
commenting from abroad about how they
may or may not be able to hear or watch
the draw and so on uh someone called bcn
Dave says I’m in Spain and I’ve
downloaded the BBC sounds app which I
don’t think is geo-restricted so anybody
can tune into the draw thanks for the
coverage I’ve had a minky writes in I
remember famous words from the 123
minute decider I think it’s
125 where’s the yellow we already miss
it I can’t remember whether that was
Neil FS or myself that said that and
Steve in bin has gone a little bit left
field he’s he’s asking me an Athletics
question who do you think wins the
women’s oh who do you think wins the
women’s four hurdles uh this summer
Sydney mlin or f ball it’s a hard one to
answer that Steve because I think we’d
have to see what Sydney does or doesn’t
do in the forthcoming months before
um before making an assessment because
fem cabala has become one of the
greatest athletes in the world anyway
thanks for your uh just doing general
questions now are we yeah thanks for
your uh for your question and then we’
got questions coming in is that Dutch or
German you tell me well thanks Sylvia uh
I’m sure it’s a nice
comment well this has been a 29 minute
frame there are eight points on the
board and Ball’s just going sort of
being sent almost into
hibernation yeah it’s um we’ve had one
red pottter hav we and a foul is that
right there 14 Reds on aren’t
there just double
checking yes 14
Reds well this is was it a red and a
black anyway one red potted in 29
minutes and and we could still have a
decider yeah it’s classic sort of
qualifying stuff and and the Reds were
in good positions early weren’t they but
they’re now all going sort of into safe
positions so this Frame really is going
to take some winning Jo o Conner though
with a terrific long red so he’s trying
to make something happen at least he’s
in with some sort a scoring chance it’s
not easy because pink and black are no
good the blue would be potable if you
could get on it if you get the blue back
on its spot soon that would certainly
help but at least the Deadlock’s been
broken well the the table’s beginning to
look like it would if you and I were
playing yes they I mean I don’t I don’t
play in it personally but they have a
media tournament at the cruise bow which
by the way is taken more seriously than
this you you some of the journalists
people who playing
that you think you see bad behavior from
the players you want to watch the media
tournament yeah it’s all it’s all a
little bit big fish in a small pond
scenario isn’t
it uh Susie Wilkins writes I think the
biggest admission from the worlds was
the year Willow didn’t qualify and then
missed the anniversary celebrations that
was the year before it was amazing
because he he didn’t qualify and then
came back the following year and won the
won the title for the third time yeah
it’s a fair shout I
suppose although real Robertson has had
more recent success than than n m
Williams did at that point obviously
that
changed well it’s all sort of scrapping
for for bits and pieces here the small
colors are the only ones really out in
the open so Jo o Conor sort of
metaphorically rolling up his sleeves
here trying to just make something
happen
it’s getting a bit Niche on the comments
now Nick sellers asking who would win a
match between you and I if we had to
start playing
now probably still be going at about 4
in the
morning well probably
lunchtime well this is not the beginning
of the end but it might be the end of
the beginning in terms of this FR at
least a few balls are going in
Pockets just doesn’t help certainly with
that blue off it spot pink and black
obviously on cushions I mean it’s hard
to really make much from
here we’ve had a lot of comments coming
in about Dominic Dale’s potential warom
music in light of the new bow in his
life
here’s here’s one that’ll raise a raise
a smile to your face Dave your co-
commentator and former Champion dond for
Eurosport uh Tom mayew can somebody ask
Joe Johnson to re-release his version of
everlasting love I want to listen to it
on
Spotify yeah I think he’s still got
about 300 copies of that in his garage
actually you want to pop round
well he’s doing well here I mean this
Cub’s doing a bit of work but it’s uh
it’s just a big
effort but Joe Conor has made a big
effort all day because he was 63 up
really tightened up this evening Matt
cell very good tactical player and just
sort of sank his teeth into this session
but Jo Connor just building a lead
here trying to put more pressure on cell
so Matt s at long last gets a chance in
this nervy uh 18th frame got the same
issue of course as Conor in terms of
where the balls
are yeah didn’t
quite get a nice angle to to get on the
blue that’s the key I think to this
Frame getting the blue back on its spot
into
play we move things along
a
pacy sit is
saying that the cuq I’m afraid doesn’t
take
instructions whilst we’re waiting for
this match to Ed towards a conclusion
who are you who are you most looking
forward to watching at the Cru this year
hendo well obviously be interested in
the draw as M as Matt s misses that
brown I mean to be honest Luca brell
actually I’m be fascinated to see how he
fars on Saturday you know that’s it’s
always interested in the defending champ
he’s not had a great season but you know
he didn’t go into last year’s
championship with any great sort of
fanfare around him I think day one is
massive I I have a theory he’s either
going to win 109 or lose 109 whoever he
draws and obviously if he wins 109 he
could get on a run again and you know
Joe Johnson who I mentioned there he got
to the final again in
87 as Jo o Conor knocks that in so yeah
that he’s number one actually uh lcer
we’ll see on Saturday myself and nil FS
on your sport be commentating on that
match so I’m looking forward to whoever
he draws seeing how he how he gets on
Cru May Inspire him again you know I
mean he had such a fairy tale run last
year maybe this will be the sequel
and there were signs of some decent form
when he made the final in Saudi I know
that’s different and it’s an
Invitational only and so on but he’s a
big character that’s for
sure Dave Gilbert was waxing lyrical
about him in his uh his post Victory
press conference after he knocked out
xia gong and secured a 10th Crucible
campaign he says that Luc is behaving
like a rockar and he thinks he should be
front and center in every bit of
publicity that that world snooker tour
have so yes it will be fascinating to
see what what the Belgium bullet can
produce on Saturday morning I I’m really
looking forward to seeing Mark Williams
I I you know that that seven on the spin
against Ronnie you know for the Tour
Championship Victory you could see how
much that meant to him
and I think he could be du a Deep Run
and so to Mark Selby
well the black is now out and potable so
that is going to help the
frame but not a lot else is so so we
there to be utilized in due course three
points in it 37 minute frame the last
was 50
minutes for
well we’ve
had more minutes then we’ve had
points in this Frame so far huge amount
at stake
though Miss he normally judges those so
well doesn’t he yeah I mean unless he
grossly overhit it he wasn’t going to
leave anything on but he was being
cautious a shout out to taana Williston
here
and in so doing all the referees who
have worked very long days over the 10
days here of course quite a few of them
be going to the cruise bow on Saturday
but Tatiana’s on the last match but
they’ve all put
in many hours of service to this world
championship
great team of
referees Alex oo writes to both of us
this Frame must have an outside chance
of lasting longer than fergal against
Gilbert I reckon it’ll be Thursday by
the time this match finishes that’s his
assessment cheerful
well we’re back to this
again that SS going to do much here
other than roll to the
Reds let’s hope he’s over before the
draw otherwise it’ be either
or Michael Holt says hello to both both
of us hendo how buzzing are you that I’m
back on
tour well halty I’ll never forget that
lunch that you and myself and Dominic
Dale shared in China back in 2012
extraordinary life stories exchanged
it’s always a better tour when you’re on
it so welcome
back oh totally I mean in all
seriousness I thought the way you
handled being off tour was brilliant he
didn’t blame anybody he didn’t look for
excuses he set himself up as a coach he
said a YouTube channel he played in Amit
tourament didn’t think they were beneath
him and he earned his place back so full
credit to Michael as Matt selt has a
chance here at the long
red with the black now
available although the QQ ball has run
on but he’s on a bolt color so if he can
get on one of these Reds on the left
hand side then this might might be the
start of
something well he’s playing into this is
aggressive from cell and he hasn’t boom
boom well it was look it was a good
effort that he was trying to open them
up rather than just picking them off but
he just didn’t get into them the intent
was good
yeah well Joe Conor may be forced into
playing the red on the top cushion
for
extended
well Dave it’s been an absolute pleasure
and a privilege the shepherd’s book the
shepherd’s hook has been uh brought onto
the pitch as it were and Ivan hitz and I
now need to make our way to
Manchester we’ve got a couple of hits on
five live at about six Mark Allen’s on
at about quarter 7 and then we’ve got
the draw at halfast 8 so we shall hit
the road and I’ll leave you to
uh finish things off here on Judgment
Day I look forward to seeing you when
you’ve done your big stint and uh Dave
always comes back up because we have
Euros sport live at the arena um from
semi-finals onwards in the second
commentary position that is over table
two so I will see you for a beer in uh
just less than two weeks thanks very
much Dave and thanks for listening and
watching Everybody the draw quarter to
95 live tomorrow yeah thank you rob
great workers ever and uh sleep well he
won’t get much sleep but sleep well
ahead of the
draw one by one they’re
departing we may not I have to tell you
we may not be able to stay until the end
of this match if it goes too late but uh
we’re staying for
now frame is opening up a little I say a
little there’s a few Reds an open Play
just three points in it 46 minutes to
frame the previous one was
50 for
fantastic pot from Matel and he’s got
this black to middle and if he can just
negotiate the QQ ball back towards the
next red with black on the spot then
some sort of scoring chance here at long
last in this Frame
ah but he’s H the yellow so that did not
happen
so what have we learned in the last two
days well firstly the qualifying is a
very tough competition in its own right
in fact we’ve learned that over the last
10 these two judgment days have proven
it we’ve had quite a few close finishes
deciders what we’ve seen is a lot of
experienced players coming through the
likes of Stuart Bingham and Steven
McGuire Ricky Walen yesterday Dave
Gilbert Ryan Day players who have a lot
of Crucible appearances under their belt
some of the newer players younger
players
cji Jackson page Pang jangu coming
through today as well Jo O Connor of
course looking to book a debut
appearance I think you always get a
match like this in the end that almost
sort of refuses to finish but Jo Conor
has a chance at this red Five Points
Behind still work to do but some sort of
chance to get back in
and it wriggles in
so points
level just looking at leaving an Ang Le
he’s going to have to obviously disturb
the Reds on the side
cushion blue is not in a nice spot there
blocking that other red to left corner
yeah it’s just trying to sort of thin a
contact on that red to leave it on to
left corner cor it’s not quite come
off just to reiterate we may have to
leave this
shortly but uh I hope you’ve enjoyed our
two days and uh of course I know
everyone will enjoy the world
championship itself when the final
stages start on Saturday and you you
what you’ve witnessed here have you been
with us since the start of qualifying or
just the two judgment days is the sheer
effort it takes just to reach the The
Crucible trying to
double needing the red to
run safe which is just about done I
think maybe no maybe have have to clip
this
in just looking at the potting angle
but it’s not
in it’s hard to get any sort of Rhythm
Of course after you know very bruising
frames this is the second one in a row
after 50 minutes balls going safe
and quite stop start in terms of the
action
now then Ready’s in he’s going to be on
the blue at
least
well How brave is he feeling can he try
and get into into these Reds get them
open If he if he can if he could do that
then there’s some sort of chance to get
this
one going have to power the blue
in maybe just didn’t have the angle so
it’s just chipping away but he has the
chance to just bring a couple of Reds
into play here if you can get a good Q
ball it puts pressure on the next safety
shot
I didn’t really bring the Reds out maybe
forcing s to do that he leads by 14 he’s
just chipping away
here well as he left this on he was
saying oh my goodness
does that red pass the other
one mat s can’t can’t bring himself to
leave the table he’s going to have to to
let Joor play this
shot maybe doesn’t quite pass
it for
well you can understand the players
being kg it’s such an vital moment but
the only way this is really going to be
resolved is just these Reds come into
play that’s got one of them
out Jo Conor may take this on with the
other two
safe pink safe favors him okon that is
being in front so he’s having a look at
this
but at this stage after such a
battle nothing’s
easy anything’s missable this would be
missable in frame one never mind 98
well Mattel is uh taking a toilet break
and Joe Connor he going to as well and
I’m afraid we are going to have to end
our coverage there being told because uh
We’ve overrun our booked slot so 56
minutes the this has got a long way
still to
go so I’m afraid we are going to have to
wrap up there but we can show you remind
you of the winners from tonight hus Veri
105 over Jang
xan Iranian number one safely through to
The

[Music]

Affair 108 with cha you
ping and the last decider we saw Ryan do
course getting over the line 109 he was
72 up held off scott Donaldson in a
decid 10-9 he’s back at the cruise bow
so that’s it from the world championship
qualifiers it’s been a terrific 10 days
the two judgment days have delivered
drama and we know the Bru B will deliver
plenty more it’s the draw in the morning
and it all gets underway on Saturday as
we head up the road to the theater of
dreams for the 2024 kazoo World

  1. I don't think I've ever seen so many close finishes. Many of the matches were 9/9 in the last frame. Thanks for the coverage.

  2. Looking forward to the LIVE DRAW in the morning on 5 LIVE. Anyone wins the 2024 World Championship apart from Ronnie O'Sullivan & Mark Allen. Good luck to all the players apart from O'Sullivan & Allen πŸ†

  3. Thanks guys rob love your commentary and your enthusiasm your part of the snooker that makes the bbc coverage amazing way better than any other coverage as they don’t have a mc like you mate

  4. I would say 50% newcomer to final shows:
No matter how much experience you have, someone who's hot will show up!

  5. 26:09 Neil has 2 reds to side with easy 2 blacks… just needs reverse. And he goes all over table for yellow. Neil is Neil's worst enemy…
