what’s going on everyone so today I’m
out here at Bel Country Club in llas uh
came here this week uh with the Zurich
being next week in honor of Pete Dy this
is the only other Pete diey golf course
in Louisiana so we’re going to go check
it out it is kind of a slow day out here
I’m kind of surprised for a Wednesday
there’s nobody out here I’m if people
still think the golf course is closed
but let’s go check out the conditions
and have some fun
[Music]
[Music]
all right everyone so we’re here on
number three at Bel this is one of my
favorite par 3s it’s at uh in the state
actually it’s my favorite on the golf
course very short hole playing 155 yards
today downwind but there’s water right
water short left water long left not
much of a bailout area the green is
narrow but deep uh fun little hole but
let’s see how we can play
[Applause]
oh that looks
pretty uh greens are firm that landed
right around the pin and uh probably
shot off to the back but uh I know y’all
can’t really see it trying to get y’all
a
view little baby alligator over there in
the water it’s one thing you know about
playing golf in Louisiana you get to see
a lot of
wildlife it’s uh great you know
especially alligators you you kind of
get to see them grow up so but let’s go
see if we can uh make par or birdie here
guys as you can see as we’re walking up
here water long and
left very narrow green this is the only
spot to miss right where we’re walking
good
hole so got a lot of work to do for a
birdie
here you see the water all the way on
the left side you don’t I mean on the
right side you really don’t want to miss
it over there but this ball landed about
pin high so you can tell the greens are
firm right now which is fine but uh
let’s see if we can go ahead and make a
[Music]
putt was a little slower and bumpier
than I
expected work left
[Music]
oh could tell about of grass on the
greens right now they just uh need some
growing time after the winter we’ve had
some warm temperatures and some rain to
do this uh green some really good
[Music]
n
[Music]
so all right everyone so after nine
uh so far so good with the exception of
the greens they’re a little bumpy and
slow I know it’s a new Pas palum grass
that they have down on this uh Golf
Course kind of like Oak Harbor saltwater
tolerant and it really just looks like
it needs some water uh so some extra
rain and a lot of heat you know
temperatures above 85 for a while to
really let it grow in but tea boxes look
great Fairways look great but let’s go
check out the back nine and see how it
is
[Music]
[Music]
oh I
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
all right so we’re here on 18 one of the
toughest 17’s actually a very tough
finishing hole too for a stretch of of
three 3 four four um you the part 3 is
kind of short around 150 160 but 17 it’s
got a creek that crosses it it plays
long 18 is one of the toughest finishing
holes of almost any golf course you’re
going to find anywhere it doesn’t play
long but it requires a draw off the te
and there’s water left so if you
overdraw it you can be in a hazard I
think it’s only about 400 yard but uh
let’s see if we can uh get a good score
here
[Music]
[Music]
all right because I only hit Three Wood
that’ll be all
right down the right side but it’s going
to be a longer second shot
[Music]
all right I hit it far enough right I
missed the bunker but I still have 191
yards left to the flag trying to hit a
three-wood and draw it uh that’s the
penalty when you’re try to play smart to
do something but if I had hit driver
could have hit it in neck
could have hidden the water a little
left but uh we’re going to see if we can
get uh get a good shot around this
[Music]
tree cut cut a little more cut a little
more all it looks like that might have
caught the front edge of the green all
right so as you can see I actually came
up a little short um not bad trying to
work the ball around the the thing this
is you know the good Miss bunker left
water left water
long uh but let’s see if we can get this
up and down for part of
[Music]
finish oh that took a bad hoop and
skid it’s all right uh these greens they
they look good they’re just a little
sparse like I said need some uh
water and some warmer temperatures let
this grass thicken up and grow in
they’ll uh be pristine really
[Music]
soon oh look a little lady bug trying to
crawl my pants I’m going leave her alone
it’s a good way to finish with a
par but um I mean overall after 18 holes
the the course is actually pretty good
minus the greens my only two
disappointments out here today bunkers
had no rakes not a single bunker that I
was in or near had a rake around it I
don’t know why um but and the
greens uh really aren’t even a
disappointment cuz I understand why you
know they’re they’re waiting for uh you
know some better
temperatures uh we need some rain kind
of afternoon
showers and some heat and this This
Grass will thick it up and grow in
they’ll be pure I know the the guys
Consulting on this used to work with
them at Lakewood so I expect give it
about 3 4 weeks of some warmer
temperatures coming up here and this
course is going to be good it is kind of
a shame to come out here on a Wednesday
and see nobody out here I’ve only seen
one other golfer that I let play
through it’s like nobody knows it’s open
I don’t know if that’s uh advertisement
reasons whatever it is uh I know that I
haven’t seen much on social media for
Bel
ha and uh it seems like you know if the
owner has the money if he’s willing to
spend a little extra I saw some
sprinkler heads that probably have not
popped open 68 months they had so much
stuff covering them so maybe it just
need some more irrigation so they can
water more uh we TLC you know if the
owner has it that he can put a little
extra money into it this could get back
to the championship golf that we
remember 15 20 years ago here
Bel I don’t know what their membership’s
like but it’s a championship golf course
again it’s a Pete die Golf Course uh
built in 1979 I believe First Pete die
golf course in the state the only other
one is TPC Louisiana host an exor
classic uh next week but you know it’s
really good I’m happy to see from last
time I was here the tea boxes in the
fairways have grown in and there’s a lot
of grass on them most of the tea boxes
you didn’t even need a tea On a par 3s
they were that good
however they’re not flat there’s a lot
of them that are crowned pretty well uh
so again comes down to if the owner’s
willing to put some money into it scalp
those flatten them out uh I’m I’m
impressed with what I’m seeing still got
a ways to go rat’s only around $35 $40
right now maybe a little higher on the
weekend but uh definitely come out to
Bel ha check it out especially in a few
weeks if you want to give us some time
let some of this grass grow in but I’m
really impressed from last time I was
here it’s uh start starting to come
around so we’ll see you next time thanks
for watching
