Scholar-athletes from Ramsay IB High School, A.H. Parker High School, and J.H. Phillips Academy hit the links at Highland Park Golf Course yesterday! #BCSstrong #successstartshere

the historic ah Parker High School is
known for its highly competitive Sports
[Music]
programs now the school has launched its
first ever golf team the son of the
school’s principal darl Hudson II is a
part of the team he says he’s been
playing golf since the age of 10 he’s
now 15 my dad also played golf so I kind
of just took out the that and I just
wanted to be like my father Daryl says
he advocated for Parker to have a golf
program now that the school has one he
helps his coach Chris Osborne with
getting his teammates familiar with the
sport I’ve been having my teammates
accumulate to the game of golf by hting
their swings and how they strike the
ball I think my performance is great I
have a lot to work on denah Haggler is
new to golf she says her uncle who is
also a golfer inspired her to join
Parker’s team I think it’s very
important for me as a black female to be
a part of golf cuz it’s not as many of
us playing golf
nowadays um we’re into other sports here
at Highland Park Golf Course in
Birmingham the Thundering Herd competed
in a match against Ramsey and lead’s
high school Ramsey Jr Bethany horn is
the team’s captain and has been playing
golf for a while she’s all about being
consistent and making the fewest number
of Strokes to get the ball in the hole I
really enjoy Golf and my journey it’s
like really peaceful and like outside of
school this is like one of the main
things I do so it just gives me a peace
of mind Bethany has also been recruiting
other girls to join Ramsay’s golf team I
have I’ve gotten a lot of my friends uh
we have three other girls on the golf
team and they’ve been really enjoying it
now to the Middle School level golf
competition Phillips Academy took on the
young golfers of Hueytown corner and
North Jefferson Middle Schools player
Kaden kamak explains how he became
interested in the sport always go to Top
Golf since I was probably five to six
years old and ever since then I wanted
um I didn’t know they had a golf team so
I just joined at my school my coach say
my golf is always supposed to be
supposed to be fun and not just to
compete um compete against others one of
the major benefits of playing this sport
like any other is the athletes have
opportunities to earn college
scholarships and you know someday you
may see some of these athletes competing
in the Masters Tournament against some
of the best golfers in the country I’m
