That Curling Show breaks down all the drama in the curling world, including Team Bottcher going Bottcher-less and Brad Jacobs leaving Team Carruthers.

Kling now enters the sports weekend
[Music]
Spotlight phw you made
it I was beginning to Panic of course
you’re at Pearson welcome inside Pearson
Airport curling fans hi gang Colleen
remember our trip to sasun for the Brier
and I bought this big
cup I might need one of those I might
need one of those after today uh where
are you heading now well we’ll we’ll get
we’ll talk about that a little bit more
uh I’m I’m going to Montreal tonight and
then to the creation of chabi for a big
curling event this weekend so great
we’ll we’ll we’ll talk about all of that
um but there’s some things to talk about
and some breaking news actually right
now
call there has been a lot of interesting
team movement and the botcher bombshell
of course was one of the biggest one
with the team announcing they’re moving
forward without brandom botcher so
there’s so many questions in the air
isn’t there about where botcher wind up
who’s going to skip that team and so on
well and I can tell you right now it is
now official just in Ben Hebert tweeting
out uh the rest of the team tweeting out
there it is to maybe nobody’s surprised
because of what happened earlier today
call Brad Jacobs will now take over a
skip Mark Kennedy at third Brett Gant at
second and Ben Hebert at lead hot off
the press right there breaking news
indeed and you’re right with Jacob’s um
uh parting ways with Reed KS and Company
earlier today the writing was the
speculation and the Rumor Mill the
curling Rumor Mill was running rampant
about that Jacobs will be joining that
team as he is now and of course reuni
reuniting with Mark Kennedy um when they
had certainly had um a good Bond when
they played together runner up at the
Olympic trials when gushu won so really
strong strong
Team No Doubt and uh I think we have our
guest uh the man who’s going to be
leading this team into the future a
friend of the show call somebody that we
have talked to a lot and we’re going to
bring him on right now coach Paul
Webster to give us some insight on what
has been a wild couple of days Paul
never dull moment wonderful to see you
um help us make sense of all of this
where do you want to begin uh because
there’s a lot to get
into yeah I mean we begin I think with
with the change and you know it wasn’t
taken lightly um the guys had some
serious
discussions uh in just reference to
where we’re at how they felt about it
um I think Mark put it really good in
his his uh interview yesterday you know
for us it’s that guu effect a little bit
we’re we’re chasing him and uh you know
he’s so consistent that team him and
Mark Nichols and Jeff Walker now EJ um
if the World Championships are the
playoffs um of the of the Season we have
made it the last two years you know so
there’s you know 10 grand slams and and
two Briar in the last two seasons and we
won two grand slams so there’s major
events we we had an extremely consistent
season this year um so people look at
the the stats and we just got nudged by
gushu after that last event um and
there’s like what’s going on so our our
B game’s gotten really good and and and
definitely better but we you know for us
to look in the next two years we need to
win those big events we need to win
those big games and um they decided that
they want to go in a different direction
you know and speaking about Brendan um I
didn’t know Brendan uh before that much
him and I hadn’t worked together from a
curling can of perspective and and man
did I ever get to um get to know a
really amazing human being not only on
the curling ice but our French up off
the ice is is something that uh I’ll
miss a fair bit and um so um all the
guys had that you know there’s there’s
emotion there this is my first time
having to to boot someone you know and
and be in the middle of all that stuff
and like oh God it’s it’s something but
you know um curling’s interesting that
way where you’re in the middle of it uh
with the coaching and and the athletes
and you get to choose your players you
don’t have a GM or an owner phoning down
and say hey like what’s happening why
aren’t we producing what changes are we
going to meet or more importantly we
made a change um and that players off
the team and um so it is difficult um in
that sense and uh you know we want to
make sure this decision was made with uh
with a ton of respect and
professionalism um because we have that
for we have a ton of respect for Brandon
botcher as a as a player there’s no
doubt in my mind there’s no doubt in
those those guys Minds that brandan is
going to be a top skip in our game for
the next 10 16 20 years and we’ll be
winning a lot of briers and so on the
time crunch for Ben Mark was something
to be um you know mindful of uh they’ve
identified that uh you know they they’re
going to play the next two years and
then that’s it for them um and the
feeling you know their gut feeling was
the the what we had with uh the old team
botcher
wasn’t enough for them to really feel
like we could put it over the top in the
next two years and then there’s Brad
Jacobs uh sitting in the Wings playing
extremely well um you know been there
done that with the Brier and the the
Olympics before and they felt that was a
great uh a great fit and something that
they were willing to risk um so here we
are when was the writing on the wall for
the team Paul I mean you know when you
think about the Brier and you were in
that game against gushu it goes straight
to the gold medal game and then you were
in the game against a dunstone in a pro
Saskatchewan environment that again what
essentially the gold medal game so those
two opportunities missed does it come
down to that performance or does it come
down to overall chemistry you know when
were you reading the tea
leaves I think you know the guys really
there wasn’t much at the Brier though
the feeling was there for them when they
when they speak out loud um there wasn’t
much discussion after that about it um
you know in the players The Players
Championship was a big event for us too
if we had done just a slightly better
than gu’s team um we would have been
putting the team Cana colors on at the
pan-continental uh in uh lome here
coming up in in the fall um so that was
a big you know um event for them to try
to get into um so I think it was just a
general feeling after the players like
it had to happen pretty quickly um
because you want to make those team
Chang es um before other people do and
um and get into it so um you know I
think it’s just a gut feeling with the
guys and the discussions there’s
definitely some discussions um I wasn’t
at the Players um so they had some
discussions once they knocked out of the
playoffs there not or so they Round Rob
they didn’t get into the playoffs and um
you know I think that that knowledge
that Jacobs was was there and playing
well um was just a risk they were
willing to take and we we know Brendan’s
going to get a really good good team
together and uh you know with the talent
that He has and the that he’ll surround
himself with he he has in the past won
great uh games and the the guys just
felt the you know they’re just missing
something and and want to take a chance
on a on a different skip uh Paul on the
on the topic of having to go through
this for the first time you know I’ve
talked to a lot of the guys around all
of this there’s a real human toll and
Colleen and I talked about this uh
before the show tonight about the human
toll the human element to all of this
the uniqueness to curling that you’re
all sort of the general managers you’re
all sort of the coaches and it’s a a an
ecstatic feeling when you form something
and but you believe you’re forming
something that’s going to make you great
and it’s a devastating feeling when you
have to tear that apart maybe just give
us a little bit of insight into the
human tool and for the record they’re
not the only team that’s broken up this
year it’s every corner of the country
right now that heartache is happening
because it’s a band of brothers or
sisters yeah I think you know every
sports team starts the season believing
they’re going to you know they’ve done
they’ve created cre built something
special and they’re going to they’re
going to pull off the big win and um you
know it is different in curling when all
those four players and you know I’m part
of it too as the coach get to decide
going forward and and then you have to
have discussions that don’t include one
person which is something you don’t want
to do and said you never would do um and
then then that human side of it is a big
piece I would have loved uh some to come
up and touch us on the shoulder and say
hey we’re trading Brendon for Brad
Jacobs um and a first round pick and you
know uh we’re keeping some salary uh I’d
be like oh well I’d reach out to Brendon
and say that’s really shitty um but you
know good luck with the new team but the
the the reality is we have to have those
discussions the players do and um you
know they they take a lot of time out of
their family schedule of their work
schedules um to you know to try to reach
those goals we absolutely had um when we
formed this team at the end of last
season we we did feel uh that there’s
opportunity there we wanted to get back
to that Brier and man did I ever feel
completely different after this Brier uh
this year um last year is my first Brier
coaching a team not with kurling Canada
and uh I was happy to be there um you
know we got a bronze I got a plaque to
put up my wall through a couple rocks I
was like oh this is great this year
getting third I understood what Ben felt
last year I I thought third sucked and
um um you know with all due respect to
the the event and the teams that were
there but man when you’re putting all
that time and effort in and and taking
time away from your family and work and
um you want to win and you want to get
in those finals and uh we haven’t so uh
making a team you know player change was
um an option that was out there and and
again with with all due respect to Brad
Jacobs there’s only so many people that
that would have been an option with and
Brad Jacobs is is that guy right now so
there’s a hole in that team now with
Reed KS and probably a ho in a couple of
other teams as well um when you look at
as a coach uh botcher played a heavy
schedule uh gushu really minded his
schedule do you know what I mean he
didn’t he picked his moments and looked
like peeking at the Brier in the whs was
when he was aiming for and and the eight
end game that you’re used to playing in
sort of spiels versus a team built for
10 is there any consideration as you
plan for next season um about either
looking at how you manage the season
more as opposed to chasing points since
you’d already have your
Brier that’s a great question Colleen I
mean points are are a big part of what
we do these days but we you know we we
have to play the grand slams we want to
play the grand slams uh they’re eight
ends and and we enjoy them that way um
you know and then we’ve got to keep our
schedule um just consistent in terms of
playing um you know with with Brad and
Mark um having won so much I think they
can take it a little lighter I don’t
think when you look at the breakdown of
events we played many more events than
they did um we don’t play a huge uh
schedule like we try to play ideally
we’d play you know uh two events and
then have a week off um just to have
that consistency you know two events per
month would be ideal we’re already
looking at next schedule and and realize
that there’s some uh gaps in the in the
event schedule um just just be through
happen stance that we’ve got to Ideal um
deal with we had six weeks off uh this
year uh before the Brier so great rest
time and so on but you’re always
wondering we came into the Brier and and
started really really well and um you
know we’ll look at that again and having
Brad up in Sue St Marie is a new twist
to the reality of of our team um to
figure out how we make sure that we’re
technically identical to each other and
and practicing all the same things but
also spending some time in his backyard
to make sure he he knows um and feels
that he’s part of this team and and he’s
leading the
team uh just have to unmute myself here
Paul in the middle of uh middle of the
airport here listen Big B big of you to
do this uh because I know it’s a it’s a
it’s a fragile and sensitive time uh I
know people are processing all of this
as is everybody in the curling world so
just really grateful for you taking time
um this curling world it’s it can be
wacky and wonderful and all of those
things and now you’ve got a new team to
over oversee and and we can’t wait to
see how that takes form thanks Dev if I
could finish with two things I think the
fans out there really need to uh take a
step back sometimes and just you know
realize that these decisions aren’t made
lightly um we try to respect the human
decision and and part of it and uh you
know we we have a huge friendship with
with Brendon and respect for him um and
then all these other team changes these
guys are spending a lot of time away
from their families and work and um they
want to win they’re they’re going to do
everything that they need to win um so I
think that’s my first point my second
point is um I think it’s uh just bad
timing on a day like today when we have
one of the greats of the game retiring
um so I want to say on behalf of of our
old team but also our new team um and
personally myself just this huge uh
congratulations uh to Glenn Howard on a
career that I don’t I don’t think is
going to be matched and couldn’t be in a
oh no a devil there he is cliy cute guy
I like it yeah so queing up the old guy
but honestly Cliffy um sorry to to
overshadow a little bit but honestly a
career like yours I don’t think we could
overshadow it with any announcement so
um thank you for everything you’ve done
for for curling and uh you know growing
up in Ontario um I have your autograph
on a on a few things and and having
chances uh to to compete with you and
and be at a World Championship uh
alongside your team was a memory that
I’ll uh I’ll cherish forever well geez
thanks Webby that’s uh that means a lot
to me uh and by no means that this uh I
I was felt the same way I announced
yesterday and I thought oh my God I’m
I’m stepping on toes here there’s a lot
bigger announcements out there so I
tried to go onto the radar I didn’t a
very good job that way but listen buddy
it was uh I really appreciate the
comments um and and like you said it
that I didn’t take this decision lightly
either it it was something that we’re
going to talk about obviously shortly
but uh it’s hard to make these calls and
to your point this this way curling is
today there it’s a business and there’s
you know there’s going to be changes all
the time and uh and uh I just I don’t
have to deal with it I just retired so I
don’t have to
De I almost did yeah right oh well teams
breaking up are never easy and
retirement’s not easy either but Paul
thank you we look forward to see in you
uh next year thank you guys thank you
Paul yeah and Glenn you know it was no
secret you were going to retire sooner
or later but let’s talk about part of
what you said in your release or your
letter a love letter was um the the
brain was still willing but the body
wasn’t that’s a frustrating time isn’t
it it it’s funny colie and I I was I was
I’ve been thinking about this obviously
for almost years but really in the last
couple of months I kind of made up my
mind and the whole time I’m thinking I
was feeling bad because that’s not the
way I wanted to go out I didn’t want to
go out on the terms of of an injury or a
bad knee whatever I wanted going on my
own terms and then I got thinking about
it you know what maybe that was for the
better um I might never have
stopped and then I would have got
embarrassing and then it would have been
too much and then I because I just love
the game so much I love the sport so
much I feel like I should be on the ice
and not being out there is going to be
difficult but maybe the the bad knee and
the sore body and everything uh is
telling me it’s time and I didn’t have
to make that decision another way so in
in a in a roundabout way maybe it’s the
best thing Happ the curling gods did it
for you but hey because we joined you in
with Paul we’ve got to show your Sizzle
wheel um so here it is this is a
[Music]
wheel he let it go they jumped right on
[Music]
it he’s got a good looking shot can he
pushes through that hole very he has
very close oh look at that they jumped
on it right away El W he is well out
there going to bend up oh he’s he’s got
a great hooking shot oh he’s going to
pick it right out of there he’s got
it Russ Howard Glen Howard Tim bort and
Kim carair are the
1987 Canadian men curling
Champions straight it
[Music]
get the corner this and make
contct he’s calling Before I Let It
Go all he has to do is remove this VC
counter he’s right on the
money Howard has done it for the second
time in his career West Howard of
Ontario is the prior champion
[Applause]
the one in the Rings or the
guard he’s got the stone in the Rings
it’s all
[Applause]
over disappointment last year in Regina
a celebration this year in Hamilton this
is your third Brier championship
two as a third with your brother Russ
but your first as a skip how rewarding
is that be honest with it doesn’t matter
to me I just want to be a part of a team
I didn’t care if HIM lead second third
skip I just want to win and fortunately
I did it with three
[Music]
[Music]
buddies goodness oh
[Applause]
so Glen Howard gathers himself final
Stone here in
10 Wayne mad calling off Sav and L and
there is no more heartbreak for Howard
[Applause]
[Music]
[Applause]
Howard Wayne mad Lang C sa are the 2012
Tim Horton Ryan
chion we love to dance
well great time to wrap up all the
worlds what was it like to watch that uh
Goosebumps guys uh that I’ll be honestly
that never gets old are you kidding me
to see uh see some of the old teammates
see uh me with hair uh see uh it was so
fun like U pretty cool it’s obviously
over a long period of time those uh
those four Clips but uh really I haven’t
seen a lot of those in years but uh
boost bumps is the best thing I get
every time I see that sort of thing and
uh guys winning is fun it really is
you know Glenn congratulations and you
can see the the comments pouring in and
I can’t imagine what your phone is look
like over the last 24 hours uh and the
messages and the people you’re hearing
from we all love this game maybe uh
nobody more than you uh and you have
been afforded such an incredible journey
uh with your family through all of this
uh with people from coast to coast to
coast around the world what stands out
to you when you think about a young guy
that just started throwing stones to to
where it’s ended up unbelievable Devin I
uh I tell people my my my childhood
dream my curling dream was literally
just to play with Russ and go to a Brier
W and that was it 100% and uh got
fortunately we were able to hook up
together we played the got in the Brier
in 86 my very first Brier and then we
lost the final by inches and that’s when
my goals changed that’s when I thought
oh my God I I think we’re good enough to
win this and uh the kind of the rest is
history after that my goals I I love
winning and obviously want to do well
and get to more Briar and once you get a
taste of it and Colleen can attested
this don’t you get a taste of the
national you know uh uh Limelight stage
whatever you want to call it it just
gets in your blood you just want to keep
going back and the biggest thing I just
can’t I just keep going back to all the
friends that I’ve made from from uh fans
to to colleagues to teammates to
broadcasters unbelievable and I I’ve got
so many people that I I have to thank
over those years and and to have these
friends I’ve got for Lifetime that means
more to me than anything and uh it’s
going to be sad I’m not going to see as
many but I hope to keep my hand in the
game and uh and stick with it but it’s
uh it’s been quite a ride way way more
than I ever expected to be honest with
did you ever expect it to you know be
bookended with Russ and I know there was
pre Russ too and then be bookending it
with your son Scott I mean the
continuity of family in your curling
life is is so big right from your father
teaching you that famous Howard slide
right yeah calling majority of my career
I played with a family member I think I
was 15 something years with Russ I was
I’ve been eight years with Scotty you
know there’s there’s 23 and I’ve played
I don’t know how many you know
competitive not not more than double um
but it’s so cool to be able to do that
to play with big brother again was we
won a couple World Championships
together uh and then I said you know
eight years ago I said I’m going to
finish my career with my son Scott no
and I never dreamt it would be eight
years I thought it be three or four two
or three whatever and I kept inkling hey
guys do you want me to quit and you know
and and Davey and and Tim now nope
Skipper you’re not you’re not quitting
and I loved it and when they you know
Scotty laid a fire under my butt was so
much fun playing with him I wanted to
give him as the best of my abilities
through the years and I was able to make
a few shots for him he’s now turned into
a hell of a curler and I’m can’t wait to
watch him go but uh to your point
Colleen never in a million years that I
dream that I could play with family
moruss obviously one and then Scott at
the other end uh of my curing and at the
highest level this this wasn’t in for
toasters on Tuesday night this is this
is this is at the Brier we went to the
Bri a few Briar doing the big uh you
know slams we went to many bonspiel all
over all over the world and uh super fun
couldn’t be more prop although Tuesday
beer leg and toasters for turkeys is
still super fun pretty good it sounds
pretty good hey Glenn uh we started this
of course with Paul and talking about
all these changes and you’ve seen the
game evolve and grow and I I wonder what
you hope for the game moving forward I
know you’re going to be a part of it and
I know you’ve always been a strong voice
in the game of where we go but we’re
seeing a lot of changes and there will
continue to be changes what’s your hope
for the Roaring game as we move forward
you know I I I I like and I don’t like
the changes I I still I like the guys I
feel like back in the day we didn’t make
changes and I maybe I’m still too old
school I think you got to give it a
chance sometimes you gota you know you
gota you got to weather the storm you’ve
got to uh uh get to know each other you
got sometimes you can’t put the best you
know force them together on the ice and
to do well you need a year or two to get
it under your belt and I think a lot of
these teams are are they may think the
grass is greener or they think that um
you know they can make changes in the
way and and for some it might um I I
just shocked over the last you know one
or two quadrennial how many changes are
made back in the day we just didn’t do
that and again I’m not saying it’s right
or wrong but I think you’re going to see
more and more of it it’s it’s a business
um and and I think like Paul said he
hated coming third and I get it I don’t
want to come third you want to come
first if you think teams today think
that if they can get one one poog isn’t
working quite as well than get somebody
else and and maybe that’s the key um and
it’s it’s hard because only one team’s
really happy at the end of the year
right right yeah and chemistry is the
intangible and they all throw really
well so it’s often chemistry or or the
you know the right role at the right
time and you look at a team like a dean
team who plays 95% in the world final
for crying out loud right and how long
have they been together right
how much does that help them just lean
on each other in the hard times um as
you say the grass isn’t always greener
no and I I’m I’m I’m still a big
believer in that too Colleen because
they know they know what each one of the
each player is going to do or throw in
the next two minutes because they’ve
been with them so long Russ and I used
to talk about that because being
Brothers we we kind of knew each other’s
nuances and we felt that was a bit of an
advantage that we knew exactly what each
other was going to do say act whatever
and we didn’t have to deal with other
stuff because we knew each other that
well I have the same relationships with
with Rich and and Brent and Craig and
and wayer and and you know all my team
now like you just get to them so well
that that whatever
that thing of characteristic out there
you know what’s going to happen and I
don’t know I I i’ like to I’d like to
see more teams stick together and see
what they can do um but again it’s it’s
it’s a business and people want to win
and if they think that they can make
changes and and do better for their team
then all be it
was there Common Thread by the way
between I know Devon’s got a plane to
catch are you are you running
yet was there a
Comm when I start looking around both of
you will know it might be boarding time
right Deon the late’s gonna be flight
anyway or the flight’s gonna be late
anyway so don’t wor hello was there a
Common Thread from what your father
taught you than to what Russ you know a
thread you kept your entire curling life
um a philosophy or something that that
helped you he was he his first thing was
boys you better learn how to lose before
you can learn how to win um big believer
that he says you got to you got to
accept it you have to learn that it’s
okay to lose but then you figure out how
to win he again he was he was big uh a
tactical proponent he uh he taught Russ
and I how to throw the curling Rock uh
with a solid curling delivery he used to
say boys if uh if you have a solid solid
technical delivery it’ll never let you
down in a precious situation and uh he
was ahead of his time when it came to
that and you can see Russ and I
basically throw the rock identical so I
give Dad the dad the credit for that
whether it’s right or wrong that’s what
we did uh and that was it and he he was
just he and my both he and my mom were
big supporters and they just bed us all
the way around it was it was awesome
four Brier titles four World
Championships so many other wins
throughout it all uh you’ve given us a
lifetime of curly memories Glenn and uh
you making time to talk to us so that
curling fans can celebrate you is really
really appreciated
yeah yeah and listen tell us about the
golf tournament you’re this is an annual
one yeah I’ve been I’ve been I’ve been
running a a uh charity golf tournament
up here in Midland for for years now all
monies and proceeds go to our local
hospital Georg and Bay General Hospital
um and I’ve been Wayne madah Wayne and
Cherry Mah ran it for about 13 years and
then I kind of I had another one before
that and then jumped on and took over
after that so uh between the two we’ve
raised you know multi many millions of
dollars for uh for George Bay General
Hospital and uh super fun I feel like
I’m giving back our our community needs
are hospital so super fun doing that I I
run it in middle of July probably we’re
going to hopefully raise a couple
hundred thousand in one day and uh all
goes to our local hospital super maybe
you could go to Every community in
Canada where there’s a hospital and will
you be coaching uh I hope to I right as
of this moment I’m not I haven’t
committed anything uh truth be known I’m
I’m talking to talking to Glen right
now I’m talking to the girls now uh yeah
yeah Lauren Carly and um oh God Lauren
Carly and and EM listen we’re you’re old
you don’t have to remember them all
we’re trying to figure things out right
now yeah nice okay so you’ve got no
announcement there don’t hold this till
tomorrow if you’ve got an announcement
on who’s gonna skip Jennifer Jones and
then my my so Scotty uh Scotty’s going
to have a new team too so uh I they’ve
asked me uh they’ve asked me to dabble
in the coaching with with him as well so
I’m going to I can’t I can’t not be with
the boys at some point during the season
so I’m going to keep my hand I can’t
walk away from this game I just I just
have to be a part of it it’s just been
too much to me and uh on on that poach I
can’t uh I can’t thank you enough you
guys for a great show that you do all of
uh the media Outlets have been so kind
to me over the years um and I have to
thank my fans um you know I it’s been
overwhelming the last day and a half
with the stuff that’s coming in I had no
idea it was going to be like this but
man am I thankful and obviously to my
family they’ve uh been with me nice
so nice outstanding Simply the Best
Glenn you just don’t make a wrong step
and people adore you for it really truly
uh congratulations yeah a
career really appreciate it awesome take
care Glenn we’ll be seeing more of you
no doubt anytime thanks go catch a plane
Deon yeah
exactly when when you look at the body
of work like the the the Highlight re
that’s so cut and you know you’re seeing
the 90s and that still go
strong um it’s so it’s it’s a testament
to his competitive Spirit drive and love
for the game all wrapped into one and
that he gives back between coaching
Jennifer Jones and before that Eve Mirad
um raising the bar for them as well so
awesome to see call I don’t know if
anybody loves the game more I mean you
can you can you can hear it I mean the
retirement is happening but he just does
he just can’t stay away um he’ll still
be there but does he have the curling
mug m
what’s what’s in that don’t tell
me it’s
nothing um so so we’ve got Jacobs
joining the team there’s a few other
dominoes that are gonna fall here’s
gonna be who’s gonna where’s the
Whiteboard slinsky adding Kyle deing uh
earlier today to the mix there’s that
announcement right there um and we also
know that John eeping has nailed down
his team out of Northern in Ontario
right yeah and he could the um I’m
sounding like Glenn now the Horgan the
Horan Brothers but um they could use
sort of um a player like eping that
still got a lot of spunk and drive and
game uh so that’s great I assume they’re
curling out of Northern Ontario I mean
also if there was one team I expect it
moves from after the Brier it was going
to be Kevin kooy’s team
and we had mentioned we talked to him at
the Brier and he said oh no this team is
staying together and yet when you look
at their performance versus botcher
performance you know you’re going well
which which team was most likely to be
making a massive change so I think
there’s still more changes to come I
mean we’re still in April so this might
be listen and listen again the reason
I’m at the airport I’m going to Montreal
and tomorrow I’m uh taking a charter
flight with Kevin Koy krie galoa Jamie
Koy Carrie Anderson I’m going to be on a
plane with him and you know
Darwell I’m gonna be asking some
questions yeah well even car’s team
that’s still interesting to see how that
unfolds uh with Brienne Brianna Harris
um and and because that’s still a
journey they’re taking uh yeah it’s just
there’s there’s just going to be a lot
and as I said there have been a whole
host of
of changes across Canada in the curling
world that you know just because they’re
not making social media or you haven’t
heard of them uh there’s been a lot of
uh there’s been a lot of breakups and
and changes so that’s just the way it
goes every year but when it’s
high-profile like Watcher sure and a
quick last word on this event there’s
going to actually be a curling game on
the cre nation of chassa on Saturday
starting at 300 p.m. local time people
can tune into that game uh the kui
family is going to be curling together
uh I know Mike mccarville Carrie
Anderson Colin Hodson Darren molding
they’re all up there it’s going to be an
outstanding event so I’m excited about
that Saturday of course marks the start
of the mixed doubles World Championship
we have the lot Duo headed there and and
they playing New Zealand in their
opening game exactly they also have uh
the Hamiltons in their pool and the
RAS are you seeing everybody you know
there we’re we’re live on the show right
now oh good good to see you good to see
you is it somebody you’re curling that
that you’re going onto this curling
event with moonlight Golf Course from
Saskatchewan a great Golf Course okay so
all right you never know who you’ll
never know I’m kind of in a wide open
space you really are air you know what
we do this show from anywhere including
Colleen’s kitchen um I forgot to turn
the dishwasher off I’m goingon to go
unload the dishes you go catch a plane
all right mix mix doubles World
Championship we will cover that no doubt
um and of course we had the the big news
of the
slam Nick Nick take Nick and Company
take the Consortium taking it over what
what not no big changes for this year
but what’s your read on on where this is
going there’s certainly a lot of Buzz
and excitement about change needed yeah
and and Johnny Mo and Jennifer Jones
they’re all a part of this the curlers
are going to be at the center of this
the the athlete voice is going to be at
the center of this because we’ve heard
that in the past maybe not about the
grand slant but we’ve been hearing the
last couple years athletes voice
athletes voice but some yeah and I think
some of that was probably lip service
and trying to navigate all of that but I
I I believe that they want to get this
right call I think they have to strike a
balance between making changes I think
there are going to be changes um but I I
think it there’s going to be a level of
respect towards the game towards how
great it is right now um but I think the
athlete voice is going to be a part of
it I think it’s going to be a little
more lively in the arena I think it has
to be I think there has to be a reason
to get more people into the stadium
although let me tell you the The Players
Championship biggest crowds we’ve ever
seen in Toronto it was sold out all
weekend great the Jennifer Jones effect
Rachel Holman playing as well as she is
Brad guu playing as well as he is a lot
of things are going the way of the
curling world right now I I I think this
is an exciting time call oh no kidding I
mean the bar has been raised in Canada I
know we talked a lot about you know
where the metals Etc um but when you see
where Rachel homan’s team is a whole new
standard for women’s curling and when
you where you see where Brad guu is
another unbelievable standard I mean
they’re just
consistently 90 and 92% all the time and
just W winning clutch games with massive
massively hard shots yeah so it it just
it looks encouraging and I think it’s
what’s Driven the botcher team to become
the Jacobs team and we’ll see what other
changes in Domino’s
fall stay tuned uh people people are
asking about how they can watch the game
I’ll post all the links it’ll be on a
lot of YouTube streams you won’t be able
to miss it but it’ll be an outstanding
event all with the aim of uh getting
more uh more diversity uh the indigenous
community on James Bay in that area of
the country they want to get curling so
they’re doing workshops they’re creating
ice it’s a really intentional event
that’s going to introduce a community to
the game with the hopes of really
building on that moving forward it’s a
beautiful the top players to be going uh
you know especially the koi family um
and and car’s going too like that’s uh
that’s just helping out communities get
stronger and uh and bring in your love
for the game with it too
all right I am uh going to go find I’m G
to go find what gate I am out of and if
this flight is still on time you I got a
dishwasher download and a hot tub
waiting with a half moon there too and
stars are out so I I got a busy night
too you’ll be flying in the Stars I’ll
be looking at no you won’t be going over
and over and well listen we’ll always be
on cloud cloud nine on this show call um
good seeing you buddy good to see you
thanks so uh thanks to the curling Ben
we weren kidding when we said we’d do
this from anywhere anytime here we are
yeah night see you again see you safe FL
thank you
thanks turling now enters the sports

  1. When it comes to the new Jacobs team, just my personal feeling but I think in terms of personality, Jacobs is a better fit as skip than Bottcher was.
