O.J. Simpson has passed away following a battle with cancer. The former NFL star, thrust into the spotlight during the tumultuous ’90s trial for the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman, breathed his last on Wednesday in Las Vegas, as confirmed by his family and attorney.

“On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.” – The Simpson Family

Surrounded by his loved ones, Simpson succumbed to prostate cancer, a battle he had fought valiantly in recent years, eventually leading to his hospice care in the final months. Reports of his cancer diagnosis emerged in February, initially met with ambiguity from Simpson himself. Despite a previous mention of battling cancer in 2023, Simpson’s health continued to decline, culminating in his passing.

In the months preceding his demise, Simpson appeared frail, notably using a cane during public appearances. However, his spirits seemed high in his last social media post, where he expressed support for his former team, the San Francisco 49ers, during Super Bowl LVIII.

Simpson’s life was a tapestry of highs and lows, from his celebrated football career as a Heisman winner and Buffalo Bills legend to his Hollywood stardom and endorsement deals with Hertz. However, his legacy was forever marred by the accusations and subsequent legal battles surrounding the murders of Brown and Goldman.

The Trial of the Century captivated the nation, with Simpson’s defense team, led by Johnnie Cochran, exploiting flaws in the prosecution’s case, including allegations of police misconduct. Despite his acquittal, Simpson faced civil lawsuits from the victims’ families, resulting in substantial damages.

Subsequent years saw Simpson embroiled in further legal troubles, including his conviction in 2007 for armed robbery and kidnapping in Las Vegas. Despite his release on parole in 2017, Simpson’s reputation remained tarnished, exacerbated by speculation surrounding his involvement in the murders.

Despite his fall from grace, Simpson continued to attract attention from fans and maintained some familial support, even as his health declined. His passing at the age of 76 marks the conclusion of a tumultuous saga that gripped the nation for decades.

  1. OJ's first interview post trial verdict was +90 days from the verdict date. It originated from the KRCA studios in JAN 1996 for BET. This is not an interview.

  2. The Jury believes you OJ. There was too much evidence. No killer would have made that many mistakes. This was a frame job. The problem is. People act as if the police don’t frame people. Just Google. It happens often.
